๐Ÿ’˜ chapter 18๐Ÿ’˜

“I’m sorry but I’ll have to ask you both to leave.”

“Leave? I’m not leaving here until I know where my daughter is.”
Tristan said with an intimidating tone.

“Didn’t you read the rules and regulations before signing the papers?”

“I did, I know I’m not supposed to be here, but…” I tried to explain.

“Then please leave,” she cut in quickly.

“We are not here to fight, we just wanna talk.”

I said calmly.

“I don’t think I can provide you with any information about the child you gave up for adoption, it’s the rules.”

“F*ck the rules!”
Tristan yelled.

“Tristan,” I called placing my hand on his hand that was already fisted.

“Hey, you have to stay calm. Do it for her, stay strong for her.”

I whispered. He took a glance at me and relaxed.

The lady looked calm like she was used to seeing people like us.

“Please, can you hear us out?” I asked calmly.

“There’s nothing you’re going to tell me that will change my mind.”
She said and I heard Tristan scoff.

“Can you just tell us if she is still here or if she has been adopted?”

“No, I can’t.”

Tristan’s hand clenched, I gave his hand a soothing squeeze.

“I’m sorry I can’t help you.”
Dr. Aracelly said.

I turned to look at Tristan, he was looking down.

“So, there is no way we can get her back?”
I asked like I didn’t know the answer already, I wished there was another way.

“I’m sure you took your time making the decision, the moment you signed those papers she was no longer your child…”

“And who are you to decide that? She is my blood and no stupid paperwork is gonna change that,”
Tristan cut in.

“This is bullshit, I will find another way to get my daughter.”
Tristan said and left the office.

I looked at the woman not knowing how to convince her to help us, she was very loyal to her job.

“Our job is to protect these kids and give them a good home. You can’t just show up and snatch them from their new life or new family. Your child probably has a new identity now, you can’t change that.”

“Thanks for your time.”
I told her and stood up.

“Have a nice day and tell your husband, I’m sorry for pissing him off. I was just doing my job.”

“I understand.”
I gave her a firm smile and left the room.

Tristan was on the phone when I came out. He kept pacing around and running his fingers through his hair.

“Okay, get all the details you need and get back to me.”
He said to the person on the other line and ended the call.

“Is everything okay?”
I asked.

“Yes,” he replied not looking at me. He entered the car and I followed. I spoke to Vina on the phone on our way back to the hotel.

I sat at the foot of the bed when we entered the bedroom in our suite. Tristan spoke on the phone with Adrian, he kept cursing at the lady we met at the Agency. I knew he was mad at me but he didn’t want to admit it.

Tristan released a heavy breath when he finished on the phone. He didn’t say a word to me, he changed into black Nike sweats and grey shirt.

“Why didn’t you ever ask for help?”
He asked calmly when he came out of the closet.

“I was scared,” I said.

“You should have asked for help, Cassie! Maybe this would’ve been avoided.”
His tone increased.

“From who? The people that made me feel worthless? The people that ruined my life?”
I stood up and walked closer to him.

“I was never planning on having a baby especially twins. My life was a mess and I was trying to move on. Trust me, the last thing I wanted was to be pregnant with your child. There was nothing I could do about it. Was I suppose to run to you after what you did? I was in a stage where I felt insecure, where I could trust no one and where every decision I made seemed right, Tristan.”
I couldn’t hold the tears back.
“I was wrong, I admit it. I couldn’t stand the thought of watching them suffer because I brought them into this world, it was my responsibility to make sure they have a better life.”

“You had Vina, she would do anything for you. I know we all hurt you but the twins didn’t deserve any of this.”

“Are you even listening to yourself right now? You make it sound so easy. You had no idea what I was going through, do you know how many times I thought of having an abortion? I knew I was never going to be the best mother. What about you? You were so busy having a vacation with your family to care.”

“And just so know, I don’t have to turn to Vina for everything, she has her own life to live you know.”

“You don’t have to keep blaming me for your mistakes. I know I did horrible things to you in the past but you can’t keep blaming me for every mistake you make. I know it was hรฆrd for you, I can’t imagine what you went through keeping the twins and I always be grateful for your decision.”

I bit on my l-ips to stop the sound of my cry, the guilt and pain I have been trying to avoid resurfaced.
“Sometimes you need help to get to your goals. You don’t have to do everything on your own, you hated me and my family but you had your best friend, she would have helped. Kayla will still be here if you had asked for help.”
He said and left the room.

I sank to the floor in heavy tears, I cried like a baby not holding the sounds back.
The thought of Kayla hating me for what I did burn my heart. What if I never saw her again? It’s been two years since I carried her in my arms.

The door opened but my vision was too blurry from the tears to check the person.

Tristan stopped in front of me, he released a heavy breath and leaned down.

“Hey, ” He called softly.
He took my arms and pulled me up.

“It’s okay, we are going to get her back.”
He pulled me into his arms and wrapped his arms around me.

“I’m so sorry.”
I sobbed against his broad chest.

“I’m also sorry, I shouldn’t have snapped. I’m angry at the thought of never seeing her, never knowing how she looks or never carrying her in my arms. I guess I’m still being punished for what I did.”
He whispered.

I hugged him tightly, I cried it all out.

“I will do anything just to carry her in my arms, kร—ss her head and tell her how much I love her.”
He said stroking my back.

“I took that away from you, I shouldn’t have. Why are you being nice to me? What if you never see her again?” I said pulling away.

He stepped closer and brushed my tears away.

“I’m not that guy anymore, I have gone through a lot with you, Cassie. I’m a father again, you gave me another chance and I won’t ruin that. I wish I never lied to you, I regret it every single day.”
He kept carร—ssing my cheeks with his thumbs as he spoke.

“I spent the last three years at the hospital and group therapy. It was a tough journey after you left but I’m glad I”m better now, you were in my head all those times. I wasn’t having any vacation, Cassie, I was in hell,” He looked away from me blinking the tears in his eyes away.

“I really miss you, your defensiveness, the way you glare at me when I annoy you, your nosy nature. I miss every little thing about you, I know I don’t deserve another chance in your heart or in your life but I wanna be a father again.”

He gave me a soft smile after he spoke.

“Thank you so much for keeping the twins.”

๐Ÿ’˜ chapter 19 ๐Ÿ’˜

He told me and wrapped his arms around me, he stroked my hair as I listened to his heartbeat.

“I’m so sorry, I was scared. I thought I was making the right decision, ” I broke down again.

“Shhh…..” He whispered.

“It was also my fault.”
He whispered after a while.

“I have her pictures on my phone if you would like to see.”

He was quiet for a few seconds.

“I have hope we’ll get her back, Cassie.”

“I know,” I said quietly.

“Is she blonde?”

“Yes,” he pulled away after I replied.

“Okay, I wanna see.”

I chuckled softly as I grabbed my phone.

“Shit, I’m nervous when it’s only a picture.”

He said sitting on the bed, I sat next to him smiling. I showed him the pictures Mrs. Rodriguez took at the hospital after my labour. He stared at the picture for a long time with a sad smile mixed with guilt.

“I will make us some coffee,” I stood up and gave him some time alone. I returned after some minutes.

“How was it?” he asked me when I entered the room.

“Pregnant and all alone?” he added before I could ask him what he meant.
“Terrifying,” I sat next to him on the bed after giving him his coffee. I told him about my stay in Cuba. His ringtone blared in the room when I was almost done with my story.

He answered the call and went to the balcony. He returned later with a big smile.

“We are getting Kayla back, we are freaking getting our daughter back!”

“What? How?” I asked standing up, I dropped my cup of coffee on the nightstand.

“I just spoke to my lawyer, we have a chance because you gave her up for adoption without my consent. We have a shot at this, Cassie.”

“Oh my God, really?”
I jumped, he picked me from the floor and spun me around laughing in pure happiness. I laughed too. He put me down as our laughter died down, his hands remained on my w–st and mine remained on his chest.

He pulled me closer and leaned closer to my face. He captured my l-ips in a slow kร—ss, I kร—ssed him back gripping the shirt he was wearing. It lasted for a few seconds before we broke the kร—ss.
“I’m sorry for what I did to you.”

“I don’t wanna talk about the past, let’s put all that behind us for the sake of the kids.”

He smiled at me and nodded.

“I need to check on Kayden,” I gr0ร—ned pulling away.

It was very sunny outside when I woke up. Tristan was not in the bed, I looked around and saw his sร—ร—y form at the balcony sipping coffee. I wore the hotel robe and joined him at the balcony, his sweats hung low around his w–st and he left his torso shirtless.

“Hey,” I poked him, he turned around with a soft smile.

“Did I wake you up?”
He asked putting one arm around my w–st.

“No, it’s almost eleven.”
He leaned down and gave me a short kร—ss.

“My Attorney is on his way here, we are going back to the Agency.”

“Okay, I will take a quick shower.”

We had breakfast and waited for his lawyer downstairs.

A white car pulled into the driveway some minutes later, a lean man stepped out. His dark hair was combed to the back and his black turtleneck shirt went with his grey tailored suit.

He smiled at us as he approached us with a petite lady who was trying to keep up with his long strides. She held her tab tightly with her White Mk handbag.

“Andrew.”
Tristan smiled at him.

“Hope I didn’t keep you waiting?”

“It’s fine, let’s go.”

Dr. Aracelly didn’t look happy to see us but she couldn’t kick us out after Andrew showed her the letter from the court.

The meeting didn’t take long as I expected.

“Now what?” Tristan asked after we left the building.

“We wait for the couple to respond to the email from the Agency then we meet,” he explained.

“How long?”

“Probably a few days.”

It took the couple a week to respond to the email. The Adoption Agency called us when they arrived. I was nervous during the ride there, it’s been two years and Tristan was seeing her for first the time. I took a glance at him, he was drumming with his fingers on his thighs and biting on his lower lip anxiously.

“Are you ready?” I whispered.

“Yeah, I’m a bit nervous but I can’t wait.”

I smiled at him and leaned back on the seat wondering how she looked now.

We walked into the building with his lawyer whose Secretary trailed behind, she looked quirky. I held Tristan’s arm as we were directed to the office. Dr. Aracelly smiled at us as we entered the office, I searched for a little girl with my eyes but didn’t find her.

I looked around again but stopped when my eyes landed on the couple.

“Ciara?”

What was my sister doing here?

“Ciara?”

What was my sister doing here?

Ciara turned to look at me with the same shocked expression I had on my face.

“Chloe?”

“You’ve got to be kidding me,” she mumbled looking pissed.

“You know each other?” Dr. Aracelly asked looking between us.

“No,” she replied quickly before I could say ‘yes’.

Ciara was the Adoptive parent? Should I be happy or sad?

“You know what? I’m taking this case to court and let the jury decide who is more fit to be a parent?” She said and stood up.

“Let’s go, Darren,” She looked behind me at Tristan, her face twisted in disgust before she walked away with the black guy I assumed was her husband. I didn’t even know she was married.
I wasn’t surprised at her reaction, we had not spoken for three years.

“Ciara,” I called following her outside. Tristan and his Attorney trailed behind me.
“Can you please stop and hear me out!” I yelled.

Thank God we were out of the building.

“What do you want? Haven’t you taken enough from me?”
She said.

I didn’t understand her anymore, she knew the whole thing with Tristan was a lie but she never apologized or felt sorry for what she did.

“Why do you hate me so much? What did I do to you?”
I asked stepping closer.

“Maybe you should ask mom and Dad, just know you’re never getting her back.”

“Where is she?” Tristan asked stepping forward.

“I got this, Tristan,” I told him.

“What the hell is going on?” Her husband asked looking so lost.

“I will explain everything in the car, I promise.”
She said to him with a smile.

“Please don’t bring my daughter between whatever you have against me.”
This wasn’t the sister I grew up with. The sister I grew up with was too nice that it irritated me some times.

“Mom never mentioned anything about you having twins, how the hell is she your daughter?”

“I gave birth to twins in Cuba, I took one with me and gave the other twin up for adoption.”

“What a great mother.”
She snarled.

Tbc..

Do you think Ciara being the adoptive parent will make it easy for Them to get back the baby..
