“Dominiano?”

“Surprise.”

My throat went dry when I saw his lab coat, he was my new Doctor?
Dominiano was a Doctor?

He smiled as he walked in, the stethoscope around his neck didn’t go with the tattoos covering his neck.
How on earth did he become a Doctor?

He looked taller and broader, his face was still the same. He still wore big rings in each finger, his dark hair was long and curly.
He reminded me of young Avan Jogia, Vina’s childhood crush.

“Fancy meeting you here, Chloe.”
He said stopping next to the bed, I searched stylishly for the emergency button with my hand.

Memories of that night flashed in front of me, my heart raced against my chest.
This was the right time for Tristan to return.

“Hi.”
I managed to say.

“How are you feeling?”
He asked reading the heart monitor, he looked like he knew what he was doing.

He turned to look at me when I didn’t answer.

“Fine.”
I replied but he chuckled softly.

“I get it, you are in shock. Strange for us to meet like this, huh?”
I nodded.

“I know right? Who would have thought someone like me would wanna be a doctor.”

“What? You….you work here?”

“Yeah, kind of. I’m doing my residency here. When I found out you were here, I wanted to see you.”
That scared me, why did he want to see me?

He went on, checking my vitals while I kept my hands on the emergency button in case anything happens.

He asked me a few questions about my health and I replied, trying to stay calm. I always knew he was smart but I never in a million years thought of him becoming a Doctor.

He finished scribbling something down and took the seat beside the bed, he sat back and crossed his legs.
I cocked a brow at him, was he suppose to be here?

“I’m glad I found you again, this is my chance to take good care of you after what I did to you.”

I was surprised to hear that.

“Why?”

“After my dad passed away, a lot changed. I couldn’t continue his business, he left me billions and I didn’t know what to do with it.”
He laughed.

“I met someone, we just got married and she is pregnant with triplets.”
He looked really happy.

“Rose was an angel sent to me. She helped me after I lost my dad, some bad guys were after me for the money and she convinced me to help people and save lives, I don’t regret it.”

My hand was already away from the button, I saw his wedding ring, he wasn’t lying.

“She didn’t give up on me or leave me after seeing the beast I was, she stayed to make me a better person. I am not the same person, Chloe and I’m very sorry for hurting you. I wish I could go back in time and change things.”

“It’s fine, I don’t even remember it.”
I waved it off with a laugh.

“What about the scar?”

“I just tell myself I once had wings.”
I said and he laughed.

I could see in the guilt written on his face, he looked like he had so much to say to me but didn’t know how to begin.

“So, you and Tristan Sanchester. How did you get involved in such scandal cause I know you’re not pregnant, I have seen all the test results they did on you, no sign of any baby.”

“It’s a long story.”

“Okay, maybe you will tell me another time.”
He stood up.

“If you need anything let me know and stay out of trouble, it seems that part of you is still there.”
I smiled.

“Take care, Chloe. I will see you before I leave.”

“Okay, say hi to Rose for me.”

“I will. See you later, Chloe.”
He waved, I waved back.

The door opened when he turned to leave, Tristan smiled at me before looking at Dominiano.

“Hi.”
He said bringing his hand up for a handshake, Dominiano took it.

“You must be the new Doctor.”

“No, just a friend. Take good care of my Chloe.”
He said and looked over his shoulder at me.

Tristan looked a bit confused but he nodded with a smile.
Dominiano left and Tristan walked in with two bags in one hand.

“What did I miss?”
He asked and I smiled.

“You won’t believe what am about to tell you.”

“Try me,” he said folding his arms.

“That was Dominiano and he works here, can you believe that?”

“Dominiano? Your ex?”

“Yeah but…”
He was already running out of the room before I could explain.

“Tristan, wait.”
I called but he didn’t look back.

“Oh, God.”
I gr0-ned.

βˆ†
I looked around at my new hospital room, I couldn’t believe Tristan attacked Dominiano and moved me to another hospital.

I glared at him after looking around, he smiled at me and switched on the tv.

“You shouldn’t have done that.”
He ignored me.

“He is a good guy, he is married and will soon become a father, he is not the same person.”

“I don’t care.”
He said and left the room.

“Asshole,” I mumbled.

The door opened, I was expecting Tristan but it was Adrian and Karen.

“Hey, how are you doing?”
Adrian asked with a smile.

“Still breathing.”
I said to Karen instead.

“Good to know.”
She said with a sly smile.

“How do you think Adrian will feel after the truth comes out?”
I said calmly, I saw her jaw clench.

“I know she is unwell but I can’t keep coming here if she only sees me as the person responsible for what happened to her.”
She said faking to cry, Adrian sent a pissed look my way.

“It’s okay, you can go home. I will meet you later.”

“Okay.”
She k!$sed his l-ips and turned to look at me.

“Take care, Chloe.”
The look on her face said the opposite.

Adrian moved closer to the bed after she left.

“I know it’s not your fault but you are hurting Karen for no reason.”

“No reason? She doesn’t care about you, she doesn’t even love you, Adrian. She has a boyfriend, she is only using you to….”

“That’s enough!”
He snapped.

“You’ve taken this too far. I know you’re unwell but this is getting on my nerves, stop it already. You don’t get to be jealous, Chloe.”

“What?”
I cut in immediately and laughed.

“I. Am. Over. You. Adrian. Parker.”
I said each word in rage.

“Then leave her alone.”
He said and left the room.

Karen was a great actress, she had him wrapped around her fingers.

Tristan returned not looking upset anymore.

“I’m sorry, I was not comfortable with you staying there after finding out he was your ex, he one responsible for the scar on your back.”

“Whatever.”
I mumbled looking away, I closed my eyes and tried to calm my mind.

“Okay, that was not the answer I was expecting. Are you okay?”

“Yes.”

“Wanna go for a walk? The Doctor said you should walk around for a bit.”

“I’m tired.”

“Come on, Cassie.”

“I don’t feel like taking a walk right now.”

“Okay?”

βˆ†
We went for the walk the next day, my legs felt weird on the ground, but soon I got used to the feeling.

I stared at the other patients in the building as we walked outside, Tristan held my hand drawing circles on the back of my palm.

We took a seat under a tree, it was a bit cold outside today, winter was drawing closer.

“I bought us a Penthouse, we could stay there till all this is over and the person is behind bars.”

“Does anyone know about it?”

“My family and Adrian.”

“Then I guess Karen already knows.”

“Cassie, please.”
He gr0-ned and I rolled my eyes.

“She mentioned Fiona that night, she said she was doing this for her. Remember Fiona? The one you always call when you’re having a nightmare.”
I told him.

Something flashed in his eyes, he looked away from me and stayed mute for some seconds.

“Tristan?”

“That’s impossible, Cassie. Karen wasn’t even in town that night., I’m sure it was someone else.”
I sighed and gave up.

“You shouldn’t have told anyone, you can’t trust anyone right now not even Adrian or your family or…me”
I said the last word in a low tone.

“We both need a place to hide, just you and I.”
He said taking my hand.

“Then book a suite in a fancy hotel, no one has to know just the two of us.”
I said.

“Just the two of us?” he beamed.

“Yeah, no one else should know we’re staying there.”
I said, looking him in the eye.

“Okay.”
I sighed in relief while he smiled.

We succeeded in booking a nice suite in a hotel downtown. I got discharged last week and we had everything planned.

Tristan gave Morris a month break and we left immediately Morris was gone.

The suite was big, it had everything. No one knew we were here, we told them we were going on vacation.

The Doctor gave me some pills and informed me I’d be having migraines in the future due to the damage Karen caused.

“This feels so good.”
I m0-ned rubbing my back on the black leather couch.

“You know what else feels so good?”
Tristan asked huskily.

He drew closer to my body, he ran his hand up my th-gh through my dress.

“You.”
He said against my l-ips and placed k!$ses down my jaw to my neck while I giggled.

He reached for the rope holding the dress together and loosened it. I closed my eyes and arched my back as his hands explored my body. I ran my fingers through his hair stifling a m0-n.

“We haven’t unpacked, you know that right?”
He asked stopping.

“We can do it tomorrow.”
I said pulling his head closer to me, our l-ips met in a slow k!$s.

A little break hurts nobody, I might as well enjoy this.

βˆ†
We stayed a week in the suite, with no cellphones to communicate with anyone.

It had been spectacular, we got to know more about each other, we played silly games, he taught me how to cook, I forced him to watch chick-lit with me and we made love every night.

I didn’t want it to end, we were away from Karen, from gossip and there wasn’t much to worry about here.

Tristan allowed me to drink today, he hid all the alcohol in the suite since we got here.

We were sitting on the floor in the bedroom after making love. I had his black t-shirt on while he wore only his boxer-brief. We sat in silence just staring at the city from where we sat.

I took a sip of my brandy and placed my head on his shoulder, a country song played in the room from the tv.

“Fiona was my girlfriend.”
I was surprised when he suddenly spoke.

“We dated for almost five years and we were planning on getting married. I proposed to her on her birthday.”
He paused and took a sip of his drink.

“We loved each other so much, she was my best friend and everything. She wanted a baby, she wanted to get pregnant before our wedding, she refused to wait. She was so desperate for some reason.”
His tone was starting to change, the guilt was all over his face.
Chat martinmartino on zero seven zero four nine one four nine five two two to join his whatsapp group or zero eight one eighty thirty fourteen twenty one to be added to his telegram group.
“She had some health issue, it wasn’t serious at first. She was told it was going to be risky for her to get pregnant and the baby’s life was also on the line, due to her high blood pressure she might get preeclampsia during her pregnancy.”
He was quiet for a minute.

“But she told me the Doctors told her it was after her first pregnancy, she lied to me that it was safe and I believed her, I was so stupid.”
His hand clenched, I entwined our hands to provide some comfort.

“I was such an idiot.”
I could hear the pain in his voice.

“She died during Labor along with the baby due to severe seizure and extreme blood pressure, they couldn’t save them. It was my fault, I should have known she was lying. I would’ve stopped it, she wouldn’t be dead. I wasn’t even there for her and the baby. I was hundreds of miles away when they needed me.”
He broke down, I drew closer and put my arms around him.

“It wasn’t your fault.”
I whispered.

“I shouldn’t have gone for that stupid business trip when she needed me. I should’ve known it was a lie, I killed them, Cassie, there’s no one else to blame.”
He cried.

“Tristan, it’s not your fault. You didn’t know.”

“She was so young, she wanted to travel around the world but she never got the chance to, the baby didn’t even…”
He paused and cried.

“Shhh, it’s okay,” I whispered stroking his hair. I moved closer and pulled him into my arms. He cried like a baby, blaming himself over and over for what happened.

“It’s okay.”
I whispered k!$sing his head.

“That’s why I don’t celebrate my birthday, it’s just a reminder of what happened.”
He told me.

“It’s okay, you’re not at fault.”

“I spent the whole day in jail during their funeral, her family hated me and didn’t want me anywhere close to the funeral, so they called the cops on me when I showed for the funeral. I wasn’t there to pay my last respect or say goodbye to my daughter and her mom, it hunts me every night, Cassie. I never got to say Goodbye.”

I couldn’t bring myself to imagine what he went through losing the love of his life and his kid who never got to live. The guilt was still in him after all those years.

“You’ll be okay.”
I whispered still stroking his hair.

Even with the situation, I kept questioning myself if he was telling the truth.

We returned home after spending two weeks at the suite. Morris still had two weeks break, so we had the house to ourselves.

I promised to make dinner tonight, well it was a dare from Tristan to see if his hærd work paid off.

We went for a swim first, goosebumps grew on my skin immediately I entered the pool, it was darn cold.

There was a jacuzzi at the other side of the pool, we moved there and sat in the jacuzzi drinking Champagne and sharing stupid jokes we found funny.

“Okay, I got one”
I raised a finger after laughing at his joke.

“Hit me,” He smirked.

“So, there was this lady who was cheating on her husband every time he went to work, here is what the husband did when he started noticing it.”

“What?”

“He would call her every day and ask her to turn on the blender to know if she was home.”

“What?”

“Stupid right? Well, he decided to call their son one day and he asked the boy, ‘where is your mom?’ And he was like,’ she left the house with the blender’.”
We both laughed out loud.

We stayed in the jacuzzi till it got dark and took a shower together, which of course wasn’t just washing bodies.

Tristan sat at the island watching me as I tried to make Sushi.

“Call me if you need help.”

“I got this.”
I told him with a cheeky smile.

“Yeah, right.”
He scoffed and looked back at the laptop in front of him.

There was a crash from the living that stole our attention.

“What was that?”
I asked dropping the spatula in my hand and replacing it with a frying pan.

“Wait here.”
He gave me that Don’t you dare go against me look.

I rolled my eyes and trailed behind him with the frying pan in my hand.

One of the expensive ceramic vases in the living room was shattered on the floor.
