Poisoned love episode 5 – 6
Poisoned love
(The Break-up)
Episode 5
Writer: Faith Lucky
“hello, girlfriend. How’re you doing?” Treasure
said to Sophia as they both met in front of a
faculty.
“I’m fine, Treasure. And you?” Sophia asked as
they both started walking together.
“I’m good. You’ve been a little scarce these
days. Is everything alright?”
“yes. I guess”.
“they continued walking together in silence as
Sophia had so many thoughts running through
her mind.
“Treasure!” she called. “there’s something you
need to know”.
Treasure turned to look at her, showing a
concerned look.
“Steven asked me out… On a date”
Treasure halted as Sophia also stopped walking.
“Steven? Like, Steven the jerk?” she asked,
looking bewildered.
“yes, Steven. He asked me out”.
“Oh, my goodness! He’s so lucky I wasn’t there.
Else, I swear to God, I would have smashed him
in the face. What does he even take you for? One
of his cheap sloths whom he can use and dump
at will? He’s so stupid”.
“Treasure… I accepted his proposal”.
“excuse me. You what?” Treasure shrieked. “you
accepted to go out with him? Are you joking?”
“listen, he was pestering me, okay? I needed to
do something to make him stay away from me
for permanently. He told me if I’d agree to go on
a date with him and still don’t find him desirable,
he was going to stay away from me. So, I had to
accept”.
“gosh! That guy is a cheat, Sophia. He’s only
trying to trick you”.
“you don’t have to worry. I’m not going to give
him a chance. I’ll be fine”.
Treasure sighed angrily, still feeling unsatiated
with the idea.
“fine, Sophia. But just make sure you’ll be
smart”.
*
Steven gyrated to where Oliver was, whistling
with his mouth.
He drew a chair close to Oliver and sat beside
him, his hand draped around his shoulders.
“hey, handsome. How’re you doing?” Steven
asked in an excited manner, his hand still
wrapped around Oliver’s shoulders.
Oliver, who was reading a book, quickly closed
the book as he became confounded by his
friend’s sudden caprice.
“what did you have for breakfast?” Oliver asked,
still looking surprised.
Steven laughed and replied.
“well, I had something light, topped up with some
great news; something that dominated my
breakfast”.
“hm. That sounds interesting. Tell me about it.
Found another lover girl?”
“easy, dude. Not really. Still walking on the old
ones.
“well, do you remember the lady I told you was
playing hærd to get?”
“yes, I do. What about her?”
“guess what? I’m on it verge of getting her.”
“seriously? And do you intend telling me how?”
“well, I asked her out on a date and told her if
she will wanted me to stay away from her after
the date, I would”.
“really? And what happens if she still wants you
to stay away from her?”
Are you kidding me, dude? By the time I’m done
with that date, she’s going to be mine “.
Steven leaned on his chair and crossed his legs.
” I think I deserve an award, Oliver. I feel like a
king “he said.
Oliver smiled and went back to reading his book.
“by the way,,” Oliver said, his eyes still fixed on
the book. “who’s this lady you’re talking about?”
“her name is Sophia”.
Immediately, Oliver clasped his book and turned
to Steven.
“Sophia?” he winced. “uhm… Hold on. Like,
what’s this Sophia? I mean, who’s she? Could
you describe her?”
Steven was a bit surprised at his friend’s
reaction.
“she’s… tall, fair in complexion and really
beautiful”.
“do you think she’s a new student here?”
“yes. Yes, I think so. She must be new here. I
haven’t seen here before”.
“are you kidding me, dude?” Oliver chuckled. “I
have a crush on that lady and I plan on…”
“hold on,” Steven interrupted. “you have a crush
on who? My Sophia? Please, Oliver, forget about
it”.
“no, I’m damn serious. I admire this lady a lot
and I have plans of approaching her soon.”
“Oliver, please. End this topic. Forget about
Sophia. She’s mine, okay?”
“and why do I have to forget about her? Why
don’t you forget about her instead?” Oliver
snapped and got on his feet.
“what about Michelle? Why do you have to run
after someone else?”
“Oliver, I’m only trying to…”
“you’re only trying to what?” what exactly is your
aim of trying to get Sophia? It isn’t because you
love her. It’s only because you want to prove to
her that every lady is within your reach “.
“are you seriously making an issue out of this?”
“no, I’m not. But, you’re the one trying to
complicate everything. You’ve always wanted to
be the boss”. Oliver replied and walked away in
anger.
Steven was gobsmacked at his friend’s attitude.
He couldn’t believe Oliver had spoken to him in
such manner.
He wandered what had gotten into him.
Through out the rest of the day in school, he
didn’t get to meet Oliver.
Well, maybe he didn’t care much about it. All he
cared about was his date coming up in less than
an hour.
He hurried home and took a quick shower. He
didn’t even eat at home because his tummy was
filled with happiness.
He wore on one of his best clothes, preened
himself up and drove out of the house with so
much enthusiasm.
*
Sophia stood in front of the mirror, primping
herself up.
She was putting on a short black gown and a set
of blue heels.
A part of her felt Happy going on the date, but
the other part of her felt sad that there was a
high chance of him tricking her.
She was scared he might break her heart if she
gave in to him.
She really liked him, but knowing he was a cheat,
broke her heart.
Soon, she heard a knock on her door. She
checked on who was knocking and discovered it
was the gateman.
“ma’am Sophia, there’s a man waiting for you
outside. He said his name is Steven” the
gateman said and left.
Sophia walked back to the mirror and sighed.
She was beginning to feel nervous.
“come on, Sophia. You can do this,” she said to
herself. “you’re just going to put an end to this.
Steven’s not the right one for you”.
And with that, she left the house.
She got outside the gate and found him standing
next to his car.
Wow! He was so charming; so cute.
Immediately he saw her, he wore a bright smile
and budged forward to meet her.
“hi, pretty”, he said to her.
“hi,” Sophia replied.
They kept starring at each other for a while as if
they were lost of words.
“uhm, so are you ready?” Steven finally asked
and Sophia nodded affirmatively.
He opened the front door for her and as she got
into the car, she kept reminding herself with:
‘Steven’s not the right one for you.’
*
Oliver sat in the garden of his house, keeping
himself busy with a drink.
There was so much bitterness in his heart; so
much brood, especially when he thought about
the day’s experience.
He had gone over to Sophia’s house to confirm if
she was really going out with Steven.
He could recall the anger that had gripped him
when he saw her walking into his car. He felt
cheated.
He was beginning to realize he had serious
feelings for Sophia, but Steven was now getting
in his way.
It pained him a lot that he was now loosing
Sophia to him.
Immediately, Michelle walked up to him, looking
depressed. And he wandered why she was
coming to pay him a visit.
“Oliver,” she called as she took a seat opposite
to him. “are you alright? I never thought you
could drink”.
Oliver gave no reply as he drank from his bottle
again.
“anyway,” Michelle continued. “I’m looking for
Steven. He’s not picking my calls and I couldn’t
find him at home either. Do you have any idea
where he might be?”
Oliver’s face turned sour as he gave a fumed
expression.
“Steven’s out on a date with Sophia”, he replied
angrily.
“what?” Michelle shrieked and got on her feet.
“and who’s Sophia?”
Episode 6

Sophia was bedazzled at warmth of the place
Steven had taken her to.
It was more like a garden – a secluded garden.
It seemed Steven had paid privately for it since
the wh0le garden seemed to be meant for just a
couple.
There was a dining in the middle of it and as
Sophia took a seat opposite to Steven, she
couldn’t help but wander at the beauty of the
garden.
She enjoyed the wind that sang through the
flowers and the flowers, in return, waltzed gently
in the breeze.
Steven definitely knew how to treat a lady.
“please, make a choice from the menu” Steven
said to Sophia and that was when Sophia
realized there was a menu on the table.
She ran her eyes through the list and finally
settled on some chicken and ch¡ps.
Steven called for an attendant and made some
orders.
They both had a wonderful evening and almost
wished to never came to an end.
Steven was a jovial fellow. Sophia almost kept
laughing through out the entire time. She only
wished the moment was genuine so she could
enjoy it with all her heart.
The sky had become full with twinkling stars and
Sophia knew she had to go.
She was really enjoying her evening and didn’t
wish to go, but she had to.
“Steven, it’s getting late. I need to go home” she
said to him and took her purse.
Steven didn’t say anything for a while as he
emptied his glass of juice.
“uhm… Have you reconsidered letting me have
your contact?” he asked and Sophia gave an
expression that meant “no”.
He dipped his hand into his pocket and brought
out a piece of paper.
“okay. Anyway, this is mine. In case you decide
to give me a call”.
Sophia starred at the paper and felt it was
useless but ended up collecting it.
She stood up with her purse and Steven also left
his seat.
“I can’t believe you’re in a hurry to go home. I
honestly thought you would want this evening to
last forever”.
Steven and Sophia were now standing closely
together. Their chests were almost touching
each other’s.
Hmmm.

Sophia could perceive the strawberry taste of his
l-ips.
She could fully perceive the perfume he must
have sprayed on his clothes.
Her eyes were interlocked in his; her heart
seemed to be beating faster.
Wait, hold on. What was even happening?
“can I ask you a question?” Steven asked, his
face crinkling up in a fake smile.
“what is it?” Sophia asked, still trying to
understand her feelings.
“have you ever been k-ssed by a guy?”
What? What was the meaning of that?
“no, I haven’t. Why?” Sophia replied and asked,
twitchily.
“well, would you mind if you got your first k-ss
from me?” Steven asked and went for her l-ips.
Sophia was confound. She barely had enough
time to think before she felt Steven’s l-ips on
hers.
It tasted so deep; more like strawberry. She
didn’t even realize she was k-ssing him back.
It tasted so unique that her heart blossomed for
a moment. But, the next moment, the words of
Treasure flashed back at her and she pushed
Steven away and also turned around, backing
him.
Steven, who was beginning to have a chuffed
look on his face, suddenly turned sour as he
marveled at Sophia’s reaction.
“what… what’s wrong?” he asked with his palms
apart as he tried to approach her.
“stop! Just stop it, Steven” Sophia replied as she
turned around to look at him.
“what do you take me for, Steven?Just what do
you take me for? One of the cheap ladies you
can use and dump at will? Is that really how you
regard me? You act like you care, but all you
want to do is just treat me like one of your
wh-res! What does it really take to have an
honest love life?
“you know, the first time I met you, I had really
admired you, but not until I found out whom you
really are. To be honest with you, I was very
disappointed!” Sophia concluded and scurried
away, almost tearfully.
Steven watched her running away and felt
completely helpless.
Her words resounded chastenly in his head as he
wore a look of contrition.
He fell back to his seat and went into a
ruminative mood.
He recalled Steven’s words to him, earlier in
school:
‘What exactly is your aim of trying to get her? It
isn’t because you love her. It’s only because
you’re trying to prove to her that every lady is
within your reach’.
He also recalled Sophia’s words to him before
she left:
‘What do you take me for, Steven? Just what do
you take me for? One of the cheap ladies you
can use and dump at will? What does it really
take to have an honest love life?
‘ # you know, the first time I met you, I had really
admired you, but not until I found out whom you
really are. To be honest with you, I was very
disappointed!’
Penitence ran through him. He felt guilty.
Sophia was a nice lady and he couldn’t imagine
why he had thought of playing on her.
He had really been living a bad life and he felt he
didn’t deserve someone like her.
Yes,, Oliver was right.
Oliver was right. Oliver was the right guy for her.
He would just let Oliver have her.
Maybe, he didn’t love her, but Oliver would.
Was that correct? He didn’t love her, right?
Yes, he didn’t love her. He was only trying to
prove to her he was the King of ladies, just like
he always did.
Playboys don’t fall in love.
No, they don’t.
He thought of going home and just as he got on
his feet, he started hearing numerous gunshots in
the air, accompanied by scre-ms of people.
He sprang on his feet and the first thought that
ran through his mind was Sophia.
