✍️ CHAPTER TITLE ✍️: I’M NOT A MAN; WHO’S CRYSTAL SON?

Driving away from the company back to the mansion took a while since they bumped into traffic on their way coming and it slowed down the journey severally.

After they’ve finished discussing earlier, Annabel promises Damien never to do such a thing to him ever again.

Even after the previous discussion, Damien was still thinking about the Butler in one way or the other.

He was so curious with his unsaid worries, to the extent that he didn’t know when he asked Annabel,

“Would you have preferred Disguise, a woman?” The question left his mouth after different thoughts and imagination.

Although it was tampering with the cold part of him, strangely Damien was able to resist the urge that wanted to stop him from thinking properly well.

“Would you have allowed him to stay with you if he was a woman? You don’t even want to see their presence where you are,” She questioned him back, with a questionable gaze, while observing every one of Damien’s reactions towards what she said.

For a few minutes, he was quiet, whined down the car’s tinted glass, threw his head out of the car window to observe the traffic light signal, and was slightly disappointed when he saw that the indication didn’t even change from the same negative colorist it has been, for the past twenty minutes, already.

“You don’t want to say anything? So you still hate them? That means you wouldn’t let him stay with us, even if he was a woman?” Annabel questioned again but he just threw his vision elsewhere and didn’t even answer her.

Annabel did not plan all that she was about saying, a moment before this moment. Maybe she was tired of seeing her brother becoming cold day by day.

How could she be the only woman in his life? She doesn’t have a younger sibling, and she internally wished to have one someday.

Damien would deprive her of this right if he is still persistent about not allowing any woman into his life.

It isn’t about what he wants, it’s about if he wants something good for himself and everyone.

“It was all Crystal’s fault.” Annabel made mention of it as she looked intensely at Damien, who looked like he would attack the traffic light signal, with how he was staring coldly at it.

“Everything that happened… right from when Dad cheated on mom, and when Mom cheated back on Dad, everything was all Crystal’s fault,”

Annabel knew this conversation she was about to start could either yield something good or bad, but she wasn’t ready to stop speaking, not even for another moment.

“Maybe it was mom’s fault for cheating on Dad also, and then befriending Crystal, but even as at the period of which mom told us about Dad’s extramarital affairs, Crystal already staged it all and has crept into Dad’s life,” Damien listened and was confused about how Annabel managed to know all this. She was still very young when all of this happened, how could she have known this!?

“You were present then, but what did you do Damien? You just watched it all happening, and were busy going for several modeling shots,” she stated to his face.

“Caleb watched everything happening but he couldn’t also do a thing, because he was thinking about his parents. My two brothers didn’t even try to stop anything bad from happening,”

“Both of you didn’t realize that even before Crystal made mom to end her life, mom was already dead out of regrets,” that being said, a tear rolled freely out of her eyes, but not even a silent whimper was heard from her.

“I could only watch everything that was taking place as a helpless teenager, but I can’t do anything.”

“When Crystal moved in with us eventually, and the only person that she never tried to harm was Caleb, I was the one enduring all her anger and everything when no one was there,”

“I was forced to receive bullet into my soft skin, in my tender age, and was made to spend many years of my life, where my vision was clouded with darkness,” she wiped the tears harshly off her cheeks. Damien was really heart broken by this sight of her.

“You were out here trying to do something about everything. Yes, I know that. But whose head and presence was the pain planned and rendered to? I was the one.” Another tear dropped on her dress.

Damien was hurt after seeing those tears rolling out of her eyes, but he doesn’t want to stop her from speaking her mind. Maybe he needs someone to speak some sense into his head.

He has failed, as a son, and as a brother. Where else is remaining for his failure?

“It was me who had to face severe pain, from the stage of being a child even till now that I am an adult.”

“Even though some stages were not allowed to be completed, for me to grow as a happy child. Because I spent it at where there was only darkness.”

“You said that I was in coma for five years! I was there without creating any memories. Even the spot where I was shot aches till present,”

“Now Crystal is out there, roaming around freely without any harm. You’ve tried to get into her, yes I know that you’ve been trying,”

“I’m seeing and observing everything Damien, I just couldn’t speak because nothing has forced me to speak.”

“You channeled your strength and energy towards Crystal and forgot about what made you not to care about Crystal’s evil intentions that many, years back.”

“While on the race of getting Crystal, you took away Caleb’s freedom forcefully, because you didn’t even give him a chance to explain to you, how hard he was trying to put up with everything,”

“I know Crystal is evil and doesn’t deserve your mercy. And if you’ve chosen to repay her with what she has done, then you are not wrong.”

“The sinner is meant to be punished, but their lookalike was never written anywhere to receive punishment because they have different hearts.” She continued saying in excess.

“Punishing others for Crystal’s mistake has taken away the right to dictate from Crystal and from you. You’re hunting innocent souls just like how she did.”

“You thought you fooled me by forcefully getting the princess picture, but Caleb told me everything and how you humiliated the one that came to you,” she got Damien surprised after saying this.

“If Crystal was evil, is everyone else evil? If womankind is mean and bad, Damien do you think any man would ever want me?”

“I am also a woman, so does any man deserve my kind too? No, right?” She fiddled with her fingers.

“None of the women are at fault. I’m not at fault and so is everyone you’ve channeled your anger at.”

“They are only Crystal’s lookalike but not sinners.” She ended her conversation with him sharply with tears.

They were too engrossed in the conversation that they didn’t realize when the driver got into the mansion.

The sighing signal that Damien gave after she finished speaking gave her a few worries, but she couldn’t ask him anything again, she’s already feeling weak.

It seemed like burden was relieved from her shoulder, and seeing that Damien’s eyes spoke a lot of words than his reaction did, gave her few satisfaction.

He doesn’t want to give it a thought yet, but he couldn’t just control his mind from wandering around it anymore.

The main reason why he was afraid about Annabel being in danger was because of the phone call, from Brown.

Brown’s threat made him insane, and when Annabel went missing, all he could think of was that she had been taken by Brown and that wicked Crystal.

If Caleb took Annabel before she could even leave the estate entirely, then how did Brown know about Annabel being outside?

He thought that he would only busy his mind with that once he gets home, but didn’t know that even his sister has something to say, to him.

“Annabel!” Vera exclaimed as Annabel walked up to her with swollen eyes and faint smile.

She’s always happy to see Vera again, but her mindset isn’t straight enough to show the joy tonight.

“Disguise,” she called back silently while she allowed Vera to pull her into a tight embrace.

They both hugged each other closely. Their bodies were happy to feel each other’s flesh again.

All the workers present outside with Vera while awaiting Damien’s arrival were shocked to see the Butler hugging the young mistress.

They couldn’t speak but their mouths could be opened in shock.

Among all the workers present, it was only Smart that didn’t act surprised like them all. He remained as calm as he could while he watched Damien’s movement towards them; Vera’s emotional moment with Annabel.

Once Vera’s instinct reminded her of how wrong what she doing at the moment is, and she saw Damien coming towards them, she wanted to detach from the embrace, but Annabel didn’t let go of her.

“Annabel, let’s go inside. We will speak very there,” she whispered to the clinging Annabel, but she didn’t even try to pull herself away forcefully, from her.

When Damien was close enough to them and has seen what was going on already, he looked intently at the butler with a blank expression.

A deep stare at Annabel that was in the butler’s embrace for a moment, then he said, “Make sure she eats, and please take care of her,”

Those were the words he stated to Vera, he walked closer to them and parted crying Annabel’s head gently, before he walked solemnly into the mansion.

“I’m sorry for hugging you in the presence of my brother,” Annabel whimpered as she sobbed on Vera’s shirt.

“I’m not trying to implicate you… I hope Damien didn’t get a different view of us,” Annabel soaked her shirt with tears as she hugged Vera tighter and almost squeeze her tender body together.

“It’s okay Annabel, relax your mind. He can’t get a different view, and if he does, I’m not a man after all,” Vera unconsciously said, because she was in a deep thought, and didn’t realize when she said that out loud.

Those words were only meant to be a whisper, but they crept out of her mouth loudly.

“You’re not a man!!” Annabel moved away from her quickly and then asked surprisingly.

“Asking for a moment with me was the last thing you want to do for yourself by avoiding a public death or you just want to see how far I’ve gone with your miserable family!?” She laughed heartily after saying.

“You promised not to do anything to my family!” He yelled furiously at her, as he tried to free himself from the grips of those two men by his side.

“Well, you never told me that you would betray me too,” she shrugged her shoulder innocently.

“I never betrayed you! I ran the errand as you want me to!” He replied sharply as his mind couldn’t maintain its peace just by the mere thought of maybe Crystal has harmed his wife or children.

“Well, you didn’t entirely betray me… You just failed in running it the way I sent you,” she answered back coldly.

“You told me to make Damien search for me and I made him search for me. I even threatened him with his sister’s life,” he explained hastily.

“Then did you forget that I asked you to bring her to me? Or did you have her with you now?” She raised her brows wickedly at him.

“I couldn’t have gotten her to you when they came suddenly to drag me off at where I was waiting for her to come outside, so I could take her!!” He answered back angrily.

“That must have been because you are foolish and my son was smarter than you,” she started laughing heartily after saying this.

Brown that was fast in answering her before suddenly became quiet, after hearing what she just said. Her son! Does she have a son?

“Oh! It came as a surprise for you!? I’m sorry I never told you….” She stated sarcastically after observing the confused look on his face.

“I have always been smart, but I didn’t know that the offspring I made together with Stewart was also smart like me,” she walked around the room bravely, as she flung her hand around proudly.

“My son wasn’t even trained for this but he’s ever ready to help his other siblings. That was why he smartly got Annabel into a safe place before you could,” she finally completed. She loved the further confusion written all over his face.

Brown’s brow seized for a moment as he doesn’t understand anything from what she just said. Isn’t she too young to be someone’s mother?

How come he has never known since all these years she has a son!? Who particularly is the witch’s son?
