Pass ten in the night. Many vehicles could no longer be found on the road as many streets were deserted of human beings thereby rendering a peaceful quietness to the neighborhood especially to Lucy who utilized it for s–xual fantasies. Her m–ning voice from her bed faintly circulated her room. She moved her body erotically with her eyes close and mouth opened widely. Her n–ples had er×¢ted just like her cl-t which she stimulated through her pant. The br–st vibrated and dangled like water in a nylon. Sooner did she totally remove the pant and spread her legs to get the best part of the pleasure. Vigorously and faster she stimulated her lubia and cl-t, stretching her legs and m–ning more loudly. A tinkling feeling rushed down from her brain to her pelvis and her legs quivered involuntarily. So she stopped, breathing heavily to stabilize his heartbeat over the intriguing orgasm. The poor girl felt relieved from school stress because her muscles and bones became weak which enabled her to fall asleep.

That would have been a wonderful sleep for Lucy if the sound of a running water from her brother’s room didn’t interpose the terrific hibernation, so she stepped down naked, put on her night gown to the living room. She saw drop of blood on the floor which she traced to Kester’s room to see him stitching up one of his arms. The girl didn’t look surprise. After staring at him for some moments, she said, “Let me help you with that.”

Kester quietly released the needle for her and practically averted his eyes. Both could hear their breath as the suspicious tranquility lingered.

“Is he dead?” Lucy broke the silence.

Kester looked at her. “Who are you talking about?” he asked.

“Crucifix, the mind reader.”

Stunned, Kester stared at his sister. The girl sounded more like she had been following him around. He didn’t need to answer that otherwise became more incredulous.

“Kester, I’m not stupid.” Lucy continued. “I told you about Crucifix and the next day someone nearly killed him. Now you’re back with a wound. What connection do you have with him? Is he into the deal with you? The little I know about Crucifix, the boy cannot harm a fly.”

“Well, the kid can strangle an elephant with his hands.” Kester objected hilariously.

“What do you mean?”

He didn’t say anything anymore neither did his sister ask any other question. After stitching up the wound, Kester stood up to the door where he slowly turned to see Lucy still staring at her.

“I hope you keep what you know to yourself, Lucy. It’s very important you know.” His voice circulated the room.

The girl stood up too. Her voice pitched enthusiastically. “But is Crucifix dead!”

“What is your concern if he’s dead or not?!”

“Because he is my friend!”

Silence creeped in again for the million times. Kester began to walk towards his sister. The friction between his footwear and the floor had their ears cracking with the irritating sound. The young man glared at Lucy closely that his beards even tried to enter into her mouth. “Lucy,” he began. “The mind reader was your friend, but how much did you know your friend? Did you know that your friend was a wolf in a sheep clothing? I bet you didn’t, so he was never your friend.” Kester turned to enter into the bathroom.

“You’re speaking in past tense, that mean he’s…” Lucy breathing rate change. She collapsed on the bed beside her, thinking critically. Was Crucifix really dead? she wondered over the noisy running water from the brother’s bathroom.

Mr. Adams paced in his living room, wearing a caftan. On a cushion was his wife who rested her head on the backrest of the seat, praying silently. At the dinning table was Eda, seated quietly too. Only the sound of air conditioner filled the living room.

Oh, the man of the house thought his daughter had run into a flying bullet. Therefore, he became totally restless. His soul was impatient with itself, as with a bothersome child; its restlessness kept growing and was forever the same. Nothing interested him anymore, not even the death of the mind reader he masterminded. Suddenly, a knock came from the door.

Mr. Adam stopped the pace, his wife stood up swiftly likewise the nanny. Their heartbeat increased. Nevertheless, the door opened by itself. Behold Margret, standing at the door in tears. She looked frustrated, heartbroken, devastated, exhausted and sad. Even the white sneakers on her feet turned brown automatically. The family were so happy to see her especially Mr Adams. His face there came to be a brooding peace that is seen most often in the faces of the very sorrowful or the very wise.

“Margret?” Mrs. Adams rushed her daughter who equally embraced her in tears.

To Mr. Adams’ amazement, Crucifix also stepped in,side the house on the same appearance with his daughter. Bother stared at each other.

“I promise to bring her home safe and I’ve done that.” Crucifix’ voice drew attention in the living room.

“Ye-ye-ye-yes.” Mr. Adams stammered, turning his side on the young boy with hope he didn’t read his mind. “And this would be the last time I’ll see you around my daughter.” he warned to Margret’s surprise.

“Daddy…”

“Quiet!” the father interrupted her. “This boy is no good to you. If I see him anywhere around you again, I’ll lock him up where he will rot drastically. Now, get the hell out of my house!!” he pointed aggressively at the door, totally turning his back on all of them.

Already, tears had engulfed Crucifix’ eyes as he meditated on the words of the old man. He glanced at Margret and began. “Your daughter is my soul, she’s the dancing melodious beat of my heart. She’s a dream I don’t wish to wake up from. She’s more to me than you all think! I love her today. I will love her tomorrow. And I’ll keep on loving her everyday after that, too.” the tears finally began to drop.

“Daddy, please.” Margret’s broken voice sounded behind her father. “It wasn’t his fault. Some people just wanted him dead for nothing!”

“Please, sir.” Crucifix pleaded.

“I said get out!!!!” Mr. Adams voice nearly vibrated the roof of the building. Margret startled over the sound wave and broke down in tears. Quickly, she ran to Crucifix.

“Margret, are you choosing that boy over us? Are you insane?!” the mother took a few steps to them.

“Mum, I love him, please.” she cried.

The mother forcefully pulled her from him while Crucifix left the house heartbroken. The scenario had Eda shedding tears too.

Once again, same night, the shower rushed water from Crucifix’ head to his toes. The night incident kept replaying in his head like a music on repeat set by a disc joker: “So you’re the motherf–ker mind reader working with the police.” he remembered the statement and the very voice that made it behind a torchlight. “The police..” he mourmoured, remembering the rest of the incident…

FLASH BACK
in,side the dark uncompleted building, Crucifix stood in the middle of the room with three torchlights, hovering on his face and body.

“Take the boy down.” A voice came behind one of the torchlights, followed by the cracking of a gun. Crucifix knew it was time to die, a time to meet his ancestors, a time to die for love and a time to depart from this world. Therefore he closed his eyes never to see it coming. Funny enough, Raina’s words was the last thing in his mind as he drew closer to his grave: I FEEL LIKE I’M NOT GONNA SEE YOU AGAIN, CRUCIFIX.

Meanwhile, Margret blindly took on her heels. On her way she heard a gunshot then stopped, goosebumps pumped out from her body and tears rolled down from her eyes. Again, she heard another gunshot.

“Crucifix!!!” She turned, running back to the uncompleted building. “Crooss!!” she kept shouting on her way back. It was a nightmare and tragedy for her to behold. Getting there, she saw the love of her life still standing with his eyes closed. She embraced him tightly. Crucifix opened his eyes to see a man checking on two dead bodies on the floor.

“Who are you?” he asked him.

The man approached closer. “Ero couldn’t take the risk of losing you. He had me follow you.” the man explained. “Whosoever these people are, they aren’t from the gambling club. Painfully, one of them escaped. Check yourself, Crucifix, you have enemies. Take the girl home. Now, know that you owe Ero more than you did.” he concluded and found his route…

CONTINUITY
Already, Crucifix had come out from the bathroom to the living room with a night hoody he tied on his w–st. Gaurds surrounded the place and Ero stood before him.

“I told you not to send your men after me.” Crucifix broke the silence.

“How did you think I would just let you die? Dude, you’re a big asset to me, I can’t let anything happen to you.” Ero walked to the bar where he poured some wind into two cups. He handed one to the boy then walked around with the other. “My man said he heard them calling you a mind reader. You read people’s mind? Now I know why you’re unbeatable on the game.” he paused still walking around. “I still don’t know why these people wanted you dead.”

“They actually thought I was working with the police.” Crucifix sipped his wine.

“Why?”

“I don’t know.”

“You have to think, kid!!!”

Crucifix began to make use of his initiative, hoping the answer pops into his head. There are times when a feeling of expectancy comes to us, as if something is there, beneath the surface of our understanding, waiting for us to grasp it. It is the same tantalizing sænsati0n when we almost remember a name. Crucifix wanted to remember a name but didn’t quite reach it. He coul feel it when he thought of human beings. “Marcus!” he shouted, turning to Ero.

“Who is Marcus?” he asked.

“The director of the police. He came to me through the principal one day, giving me the offer of working with the Police, you know using my ability.”

“I still can’t see how that relates to some dude coming after your life.” Ero said as an afterthought.

“I know, but talking to him might give us a clue.” Crucifix replied sincerely.

Ero walked closer to him with fierced voice. “First, there is no ‘us’. Secondly, I don’t think involving the police is a good idea.” he warned.

“It is.”

“Then count me out of it.” Ero drank the remaining wine, dropped the cup and walked towards the elevator.

Nobody owns life, but anyone who can pick up a frying pan owns death. To Kester, Nelson and Adams, Crucifix had picked up a frying pan, therefore he owns death. That’s why they thought he wouldn’t die no matter what.

Back in the warehouse the next day, as Crucifix was on his way to Kenny High, so were the three men in the warehouse. One could see bandage on Kester’s arm.

“The kid is a cat with nine f–king life!” Kester began to explain what happened the previous night. “I barely escaped which, in the process I sustained this f–king injury.” he concluded.

“I was astonished to see him, bringing my daughter back last night.” Adams said exhaustively.

“Whatever you both gonna do, do it and count me out. I can’t keep risking my life killing a f–king cat!” Kester lamented.

“I know a plan C.” Nelson began. “I’ll make my daughter invite him for dinner then I poison him and he dies.” he said.

“Supported, but get a plan D ready. I’m getting a f–k out of here.” Kester began to leave the house.

Would Crucifix actually escape the plant C? It looks like he wouldn’t because he wouldn’t want to hurt Raina again. But how would Mr. Nelson think Raina would agree to have Crucifix come for dinner because the girl wasn’t happy with the mind reader.

Nevertheless, Crucifix did not only enter into Kenny High School, he also entered into his classroom with no body gaurds. The dude dressed simple as usual. Just at the door of the classroom, Margret looked up to see him already staring at her. Her heart accelerated because she had to keep away from him as her father said.

“Crucifix!” Lucy exclaimed joyfully. She ran to the boy and hugged him tightly to everybody’s amazement especially Margret who had started feeling jealous. “Thank God you’re still alive.” she whispered on his shoulder.

Hearing that, Crucifix gently pulled her from his shoulder and read her mind immediately. “Who is Kester, Lucy?” he asked her.

The question reminded the girl that she had f–ked up again….
