Death is not a period that ends the great sentence of life, but a comma that punctuates it to more lofty significance. All the same, Raina’s clock of death was ticking very fast.

Cynthia stood behind an electric pole, a meter away from McDonald school gate. She wore black throughout except her canvase that had the opposite colour. in,side the front pocket of the black hoodie she wore was a pistol where her hand rested too. She solely concentrated on the school gate where students troops out in large number, monitoring Rraina’s presence there. She couldn’t see her in the crowd until the number of students leaving the gate dwindled. Luckily for her, she sighted her coming out from the school with her phone on her ear while a hand rested in the back pocket of her jean skirt. She stopped at the gate, speaking silently on the phone. Gradually, Cynthia brought out the pistol that also had silencer screwed on the barrel. She professionally aimed it at her, remaining to pull the trigger, she remembered Emmanuel’s words: “…Crucifix is jovial, kind and want a good life. But you? You’re a murderer without conscience.”

After recalling the statement, her hands began to quiver on the gun, it suddenly began to sweat too. She held it very tight, yet her fingers on the trigger quivered as she remembered another words: “You’re nothing like your brother…. you’re a killing machine.” Cynthia swallowed hærd, seeing how her hand vibrated uncontrollably. “Damn!” she lowered the gun, placed it back to where she brought it then covered her head with the cap of the hoodie. She walked out frustratingly through a pedestrian road where she bumped on a girl.

“Oh, I’m sorry.” Cynthia looked up at the girl. She was dark, tall and had a male afro haircut.

“It’s fine.” the girl replied, smiling sed×¢tively which got Cynthia surprised, so she intensively stared into her eyes to read her mind. Astonished, she couldn’t do that, all she could see was darkness. Who could the girl be? Yes, you’re right. It was Linda!!

Cynthia may not have been able to read her mind, but she could read the meaning of the smile which she returned immediately to get her attention and many more she knew she could get from her which Crucifix didn’t have knowledge of.

Nevertheless, Cynthia stretched her hand to her. “I’m Cynthia.”

Linda gently shook it. “I’m Linda. Where are you hurrying to?” she asked.

“I.. I.. actually, I do not have a destination anymore.” She giggled.

“What do you say, coming home with me?”

“That will be great.” Both smiled again.

However, Raina was still on the call at the school gate, but just hung up when a cab pulled over before her. The beautiful damsel shook her hair attractively then entered.

At Kenny High School, students had gone home too. in,side one of the classrooms were Alice, Rose, Crucifix and Margaret who stood before the three friends like a teacher with a marker in her hand. They were actually studying for their final grade exams. Since Margret knew mathematics more than them all, she was willing to teach them. Therefore all listened to her from different seats. Behind the girl was a white board written ‘Linear Equation’.

“So to solve Linear Equation.” Margret began. “First find the value of the variable that makes the equation true. Use the inverse of the number that multiplies the variable, and multiply or divide both sides by it. Simplify the result to get the variable value. You can check your answer by plugging it back into the equation.” She walked to the board and wrote an example of linear equation thus: (2x + 5)/(x + 4) = 1

She turned to her friends again. “So to solve this Linear Equation on the board, you have to fine the value of x which is the variable and you do that by first removing the bracket.” she walked back to the board.

“If Lucy was around, she would have loved to join us.” Rose abstractly distracted then all turned to her even Margret had to abandon the board and looked at her after glancing at Crucifix to see how weak he became for hearing that. Nevertheless, Rose continued unabashedly. “What?” she spread her hands. “Lucy was the one that suggested we have a private lesson at the first place. Have you all forgotten?”

Margret exhaled. “Rose, we understand all that but Lucy is not of this world anymore. So can we pay attention here?”

“Fine.”

“Thank you.” Margret glanced at Crucifix and continued…

There was no sunlight anymore when the lesson ended. The four friends went to their various ways from the school gate. One could see Crucifix and Margaret standing beside the road, waiting for a cab. All of a sudden, Margret said, “I feel like trekking.” she looked up at Crucifix. “Will you mind?”

Crucifix smiled. “Margret, it’s a long way to…”

“Please, I’ll sing for you if you agree.” She interrupted him.

Crucifix looked down at her. “I think your sweet voice will be a healing power.”

“Get a helmet because it will also strike like a thunder.”

Crucifix laughed. As both began to trek home, Margret engulfed her hand round his arm, laughing seriously at every statement made by the boy. She occasionally gave him a friendly punch and pushed him away while Crucifix would laugh at the feminine charisma. He would run when she pursues him, but later stops for her to catch him. Obviously, the love between both ignited once again. Suddenly, Margret’s melodious voice pitched on the way, singing ‘My Heart Will Go On’ by Celine Dion. She waved her hands in the air dramatically as she sang and also held Crucifix’ arm who continued blushing, listening to her voice. Oh, what a lovely memory the kids were building under a lovely atmosphere which attracted passerbys. People stopped to watch them and listen to them. Those in,side moving vehicles only wished they match their breaks to feed their eyes with the lovely scene the two were creating on the road.

At the end of the song, Margret engulfed her hands around Crucifix neck then k×ssed him happily. Oh mine! That was another moment the boy seemed to forget about his worries.

“I love you.” Margret whispered to him as she stared into his eyes.

“You have no idea how you’ve made me feel. I love you more, Margret.” Crucifix replied.

“Come, I have a surprise for you.” she finally stopped a cab and both entered. They stopped in front of Margret’s house. Crucifix was still wondering where she was taking him to until she dragged him to their garage which she rolled open. Surprisingly, Crucifix saw his bicycle there well renewed and painted with colourful designs.

“Oh, my God! My bicycle!” Crucifix s¢ræm, looking at Margret. “How.. how.. where… how did you get it?” he asked.

“I was able to recognize it on my way to KINGS LAYOUT on the day you were shot.” Margret began. “When I found it, I wondered why you abandoned it. I took it to a mechanic after which I started calling you from my room, not knowing you were already at the point of death. My phone fell off from my hand and broke that day.” she smiled.

“Oh, Margret I’m so happy!” Crucifix hugged her, carried her up and flung her around. Margret s¢ræmed, chuckling happily at the same time. He pulled her down.

“Now, ride home safely, dear.” she said.

“As you’ve commanded, baby girl.” Crucifix climbed the bicycle and pedalled away as Margret watched him from the entrance of the garage. The boy looked back to see her waving at him. Aaww, so lovely.

In deed, Crucifix rode home safely. He parked the bicycle outside and entered in,side to see his grandfather gone. He stood in front of a mirror, smiling at the way Margret made him feel. Horrifyingly, he saw Lucy through the mirror, sitting at the edge of his bed. She wore a short black skirt and white top. Swiftly, he turned to see her in reality! “Lucy?” his voice trailed softly in the room.

“I can see you’re very happy.” Lucy smiled.

Crucifix became emotional. “Lucy, I’m so sorry.” he said bitterly.

“And I’m so happy that you’re doing just fine.” She stood up from the bed, looking at the boy. “You need to forgive yourself, Crucifix.” she said.

The boy began to cry. “No, I can’t.” he cried.

“You have to! I’ve always wanted you to be happy and safe. You need to forgive yourself and move on. It wasn’t totally your fault. I understand.”

Crucifix bent his head, crying seriously.

“But you need to do one thing for me.” Lucy demanded.

He looked up at her. “What’s that?” he asked in tears.

“Kill Margret’s father for me.”

“What?” Crucifix exclaimed and turned his back on her, thinking critically. Before he could turn to her, the girl wasn’t there anymore. “Lucy?” he called surprisingly, looking around the room. Only then did he realize that he saw a her ghost…..
