” You know you’re this popular girl in college but you don’t really know about it.” Diana says as we walk down the hallway of the hospital.
I chuckle at Diana’s word.
After that conversation with that creepy scarred man, I had to make sure we leave the restaurant that very minute. Diana stopped me earlier and told me what happened to Todd. And I’m suspecting just one person. Judah.
” I don’t know what you’re talking about. Did you call Genevieve and reported Todd?”
” Yeah, I did. That prick needed a warning. Now I’m wondering who made him hospitalized.” We stopped at Todd’s hospital room and I’m bewildered at his sight.
Who the hell would wanna beat up someone to that position. Diana push open his door to the end. I turn to look at Diana as she tries to muffle her laugh. I nudge her and she smiles. Charlotte sits next to her son as she sobs. I don’t even know why I’m here. Maybe to stare at Todd’s miserable ass. But this is too much for anybody.
Todd’s got a black eye. Swollen cheek and a broken nose. His l-ips are torn and his head has a bandaid on it. This is too much. I should be laughing at him at him because he actually abused me. But I pitied him. Why would Judah do this to him. Why would he hurt Todd for me. I’m occupied by my own thoughts I didn’t see Albert walked into the room.
He looks at his unconscious son before moving his gaze toward me. I swallow.
” Who did this to him? How did he get here?” Albert asks, still looking at me.
Diana shrugs and crosses her arms.
” His friends called and told me Todd was found in an alley unconscious. Someone did this to him. He was beating terribly.” Charlotte sobs.
” Damn, whoever did this deserves an award.” Diana whispers and chuckles quietly.
” What’s funny Diana?” Albert glares at his daughter. I quietly pull out my phone and text Judah at once.
TO JUDAH; WHAT THE f-ck DID YOU DO??
” Serena, I thought you said you guys are over. What are you doing here?” Albert asks me.
Making sure your sick assh-le of a son doesn’t make it. I wish I tell him that.
” I’m just making sure he’s okay. We’re still friends.” I give him a tight lip smile. He doesn’t look satisfied.
” I don’t wanna assume it’s your neighbor boyfriend that did this.”
I huff.” I’m leaving Diana.”
” I’m coming with you.” Diana says and drag me out of Todd’s room.
” Diana.” Charlotte calls after her daughter.
Diana rolls her eyes as we walk down the hallway. I pull out my phone to check if there’s any response from Judah, but there’s none. I sent him another text.
TO JUDAH; JUDAH, WHAT DID YOU DO? WHERE THE f-ck ARE YOU?
” So who’s this neighbor of yours? Is he behind this?” Diana asks as we step out of the hospital.
” Well… I’m not sure.”
” And who’s Judah that you texted?” Diana asks as she furrows her brows. She smiles and w¡dens her eyes.
” Well, he’s my neighbor.” I sigh.
” Is he the Judah that I’m suspecting? The cute assh-le who once worked with my dad?”
” Damn, that’s the one.”
” What! What the actual f-ck? Oh my God. His he out of jail? I mean I heard he went to jail through my sick father and my psychotic brother.”
” Yeah, he’s out.”
” Holy hell. Shit, he’s so f-cking cute and annoying sometimes. I knew he always hated Todd and my dad. I suspected my father was one of the reasons he went to jail. Job went wrong and all that shit.” Diana says.
We stop by at my car as I stare at her.
” Job went wrong? What type of job?”
” I don’t know Serena. Some political work actually.”
” Does it involved murder?” I ask.
” Not really. Judah is not a murderer. I thought he’s your neighbor. No connections between you two.”
” Judah doesn’t say a lot. I mean he’s too closed up.”
” You sound like you like him. Like, like him.”
I chuckle and open my car.
” Hop in , lemme give you a ride.”
” You’re trying to dodge my question and you’re giving me an answer.” I chuckle and slide in,side my driver’s seat.
” I think he’s cute.” I say when she enters the passenger seat.
” And I think you’re gonna f-ck him soon. He’s irresistible.”
” Did you and Judah…”
” F-ck, no. What? Nah, we didn’t and he never for once looked at me like someone who wants s€× from me. He’s always about his business and always with my dad.”
I nod and starts the car as we drive down the road.
“So why did Judah quit working with your dad?”
” I don’t really know about that.” She says and I nod.
” You should drop me off at campus. My boyfriend will come pick me up.”
” Samuel?”
” Yeah. Same freak my father doesn’t like.” She says and I chuckle.
” Why don’t you own a car? Todd rides a Maserati.”
” My dad took it away four months ago. My mom don’t even own a car. My dad took hers too , sold her jewelry store and made sure she ends up as a complete housewife. He’s insane.”
” Jeez. That was a terrible thing to do.”
” I f-cking hate my dad. It hurts to see my mom be with someone like him. She wanted to file for a divorce some years ago, my dad hit her and threatened her life. Truth is, we can’t escape his evil side, he has connections everywhere, including the cops. Todd is just his puppet. He does what Albert wants.” She shrugs and I feel sorry for her.
” I’m really sorry about that. This is…”
” It’s okay, I’m used to it.”
I smile at her and she turns on my radio. A rap music with an unknown artiste plays on the radio. Diana raps to the song and I giggle. The song ends and I park my car outside college.
” Thanks, Serena. You’re cool.” She smiles and unlock the car door.
” You’re welcome.”
” And say thanks to Judah for ruining Todd’s face. He’s the real shit.” She winks at me and shuts my car door.
I chuckle and drive out of the parking lot. I really need to talk to Judah. Todd looks like shit and that was too much. Why would he hurt Todd for me? I’m still confused and baffled at the same time. He’s so weird. One minute he cares about you, the other minute, he doesn’t give a shit about you.
I pick up my phone and check if there’s any reply from Judah, none. I huff loudly and text him again.
TO JUDAH; WHY THE f-ck ARE YOU IGNORING MY CALLS? I’M GONNA KILL YOU IF I SEE YOU.
I drop my phone on my passenger seat only for it to buzz with a text notification.
FROM JUDAH; I’M WAITING, MARGARET.
I smile at his text and frown at once when I see Phoebe’s name on my screen, calling me. I swipe the answer icon and place the phone against my ear.
” Phoebe.”
” Hi, Serena. Are you still at school?”
” I’m driving home.”
” Please drop by at my office, I need to show you something.”
I sigh and answer.” Alright, I’m on my way.”
…..
” This is Troy. He’s been in and out of jail and currently I think he works with a man called Ransom.” Phoebe says and gives me his photo.
I remembered the guy. He was with the creep who followed me to the restroom.
” And this other guy is Zayn Arthur. A Hitman. Known for his numerous crime records. He just got out of jail two months ago…” Michael says giving me his picture. “His last crime was a bank robbery, in which two people died at scene.”
Zayn? He’s the creepy guy who followed me to the restroom. Same guy who threatened me to get rid of my family’s heirloom. Why was he after me? His he behind the death of my parents? He looks less better than his real self. He’s kinda cute in real life. Even with the scar down the side of his face, he’s pretty cute for a criminal.
” I saw this guy today.” I say, dropping the photo on the desk.
” What?” Phoebe asks and sits down.
” Yeah. He walked into the restaurant I was having lunch with my friends. He smirked at me and he was actually giving me the creeps. I went to the restroom and he followed me. He said something, that I should actually get rid of my family’s heirloom. He referred the heirloom as a death wish. And before that, a private number texted me when I left this morning.” I give Phoebe my phone with the text displaying on the screen.
” I see you?” Phoebe reads.
” What’s that supposed to mean?” Michael asks.
” I don’t know. Zayn said the same thing to me today.”
” Really?” Phoebe asks and I nod.
She sighs and gives me back my phone.
” Even if Zayn happens to be a suspect, someone must have sent him and who?” Michael says.
” All suspecting arrows points to Albert Winston. I discovered that he had a fight with your father two months ago and a week after, Zayn got out of jail.” Phoebe says.
” Zayn doesn’t work with Albert. I think he works for Ransom.”
” And who’s this Ransom guy?” I ask.
” I don’t know much about him. But I think he runs his own casino. Don’t like coming out to the light. He’s barely seen in public places.” Phoebe says.
” Rumor says he’s scarred and that’s one of the reasons he’s barely out.”
” So who do you think it’s the suspect?” I ask.
Phoebe stands up as she walks to the board in her office. On it, Albert and Todd’s face are on it. She pinned Zayn and Troy’s face on the board too.
” This is complicated.” She says and points to Zayn. ” Zayn Arthur is known for perfect kill skill, probably ghost killing. Doesn’t leave any trails behind. And often times there’s no witness or proof that he actually commited any of these crimes. He’s like Ransom, don’t like public places.”
” But my question is why was she kept alive? I bet they knew Serena was gonna party with Todd. Why haven’t they come after her?” Michael asks.
” It’s easy. Because they couldn’t find the diamond. That’s why she’s still very much alive.” Phoebe sighs and sits down. ” This is so complicated than I thought.”
” I should probably take my leave. If I get any information, I’m gonna call you guys.” I say and leave.
Without stopping at my apartment, I park my car in front of Judah’s. I step out of the car, shut the door, and go straight to Judah’s. He needs to tell me why he almost took Todd’s life. That was a lot. I knock on his door and wait for him to respond. I bang on his door loudly again. The door opens and Judah is standing in front of me. Clad in a white T-shirt and jeans. How dare he look so good looking?
” Gwen?”
” F-ck…” I gro-n.
Judah grabs the hem of my shirt and pulls me in,side his apartment. He shuts the door and pull me to him. I pull away and swat his chest.
” What did you do Judah?”
He smirks. ” I don’t know what you’re talking about, Sophie.”
” We will deal with the names later. Why have you been ignoring my text?”
” I missed you that’s why.”
” Stop f-cking lying. You wanted me to stop by to scold you.”
” And that’s exactly what you’re doing.”
” Look, I might really dislike Todd and I was truly hurt with the way he treated me, but what you did to Todd was life threatening.” I tell him.
He smirks again and I made sure I didn’t stare at his l-ips for too long. He ignores my ranting and grabs a fistful of my hair to stare at my temple.
” Does it still hurt?” He asks and looks me in the eye. I’m hypnotized as I shake my head sideways. Judah pokes it and I breathe in at the slight pain.
” You’re such a terrible liar.” He let’s go of my hair and wraps his hand around my neck to pull me close to him.
” What makes you think I did it?” His voice is calm. His eyes watches mine and I’m distracted by the way his l-ips moves and how his hand around my neck soothes my skin.
” Serena.”
I blink my eyes at once.
” You’re checking me out again.” He says the truth and I’m embarrassed.
” You don’t have to be so annoying. I pitied him though. He looked like a punching bag, I barely could recognized him. Why did you do it?”
” He hit you.”
” Why do you care?” I breathe out.
Judah looks into my eyes for seconds and smiles.
” You know why. I don’t know what you did to me but, I can’t stand to see you cry.” He whispers.
I didn’t notice we’re so close to each other. I wanna wrap my arms around his neck and k-ss him, but I don’t do that. Judah’s thumb pad carreses my cheek and I’m responding to his simple touch.
” So when are we gonna share our first k-ss?” He smirks and rubs his thumb on my l-ips. I swallow. He didn’t just say that.
I stare at him in awe and pretend to frown at him.
” We’re not k-ssing.” I say and remove his hand from my cheek.
I proceed to walk out of his apartment but Judah is fast, he pulls me back to himself and wraps his arms around my wa-ist and then he leans closer. My heart beat stops to beat at once. He knew that , he noticed it, and he smiles.
” You’re hurting us both and you know that.”
” I don’t know that. You just ruined Todd’s face, we should be…”
He shut me up with his forefinger.
“Shh…” His thumb pad carreses my l-ips and I’m dumbstruck.
” Lemme taste you Serena.” He whispers. I feel goosebumps creeping down my spine.
How dare he make me feel this way? He always have a way of making me want him. Without thinking twice, I stand on my toes and wrap my arms around his neck as I k-ss him. It wasn’t really a good k-ss cause it was short. Judah pulls me back to him when I’m about to pull away. With his hand still on my wa-ist , he k-sses me at once.
I feel my feet leave his floor and my thighs are around his wa-ist. His hand levels on my butt as we k-ss. My left hand stays around his neck while the other tug on his hair. Our tongues glide against each other and I’m mo-ning in his mouth. Judah doesn’t give room for air as our l-ips desperately meet. His right hand carress my thighs to my wa-ist as we show each other how much we needed each other.
Judah bites my lip and we stop k-ssing. I breathe in and out as I try to catch my breath. Our foreheads touches each other and my eyes are shut. I’ve never k-ssed anyone like this before, not even Todd. With my arms resting on his shoulders, I open my eyes to stare into his.
” You don’t know how much I’ve waited to do this with you.” Judah says. What does he even mean by that?
” You’re cute.” He smiles at me still holding tight to me.
” What do you mean you’ve waited for so long?” I whisper.
He stays quiet as he watches me. He drops me on the floor and says.
” It might sound weird but, I’ve never k-ssed a girl before. You’re the first.”
