The Next Day in Lawyer James house..

“Good morning dad. Morning mum.” Cindy greeted happily beaming in smile.

“Happy engagement my love.” Mrs Veronica smiled too.

“Happy engagement my dear.” Lawyer James said.

“Thank you. I’m happy. Thanks a ton. It’s been you all the ways. I love you both.” Cindy said while they smiled watching their daughter.

“I love you more.” Mrs Veronica said.

“Thanks mummy.”

“Eat your food or you’d be late.” Lawyer James said.

Mrs Veronica quickly dished everyone’s food.

“I don’t feel like eating heavy food this morning mum. I’d go with just bread and milk.” Cindy said going into the kitchen.

“But why? You better start eating well Cindy. You need to start looking okay and more beautiful since you’re engaged.” Mrs Veronica said at her.

“Woman…my clients are waiting. Serve this thing.” Lawyer James said.

“Sorry…it’s about your daughter now” she said.

“Will you force her to eat rice when she don’t want to?” He asked eating his food already.

Cindy came out of the kitchen holding a green tray that contains bread and milk.

She sat down opposite her dad and started eating too.

“Cindy, learn how to eat good food other than this bread and milk you always take in the morning.” Mrs Veronica said.

“Don’t worry mum, I always eat good food at work during the lunch.” She said munching on the bread…

“Honey, I’d be going to work today to check on my workers.” Mrs Veronica said.

“It’s a good idea. How is bakery building going?” Lawyer James asked drinking some water.

“The last time I went there, they told me it’d be completed in a month’s time. So, I will branch there again today. They would have completed it.” Mrs Veronica said eating her food too.

“I see…who’s gonna drive you around?” He asked smiling a little.

“myself of course.”

“Mum…are you sure you are perfect?”Cindy butt in.

“Yes my dear. Don’t panic…your mum is now a professional driver.” Mrs Veronica boasted happily.

“I’m off to work. Dad…I love you
Mum, thanks for the meal. Drive safely mummy.” she said as she took her bag.

“Alright dear.” They both replied.

Philip walked to his office with his secretary behind him.

“What’s my schedule today?” he asked taking his seat.

“I’ve sent everything to your mail sir. But you have a board meeting with DCM Group Of Companies in the next one hour.” she said.

“Alright thank you.” He said switching on his system.

His secretary bowed and left.

He sighed lightly and took out his phone from his pocket. He dialed Cindy’s number.

The call ended and he smiled happily.

He called Thomas and informed him.

Alice walked gently into the doctor’s office and sat down.

“Good morning Mrs Bassey”

“morning doctor.”

“I’m here for the IVF”

“Oh okay.” The doctor called a nurse on the telephone on her table.

The nurse entered and greeted.

“Nurse Mimi please take Mrs Bassey to the lab. And do the necessary things for the in vitro fertilization processes.” The doctor said.

“Yes doctor. This way ma.” Nurse Mimi said.

“By the way Mrs Bassey, when is your husband coming for his own donation?” The doctor asked.

“Tomorrow.” She said.

“Alright.”

Alice walked out with the nurse.

Later in the day…

Thomas was seen at some distance to a hospital in his car.

He dialed someone’s number and placed the phone on his left ear.

The call ended.

Ten minutes later…

“Thomas” Mimi greeted.

“Mimi” Thomas answered.

She opened the car door and sat down closing it back..

“How are you?”

“I’m fine. I’m doing something in the hospital. What do you wanna see me for?”

“I need your help.” Thomas said.

“What is it?”..

“A friend of mine wanna help his wife get pregnant through IVF. But his wife don’t wanna let him go this extreme. But please, you’d do everything in his house.” Thomas explained.

“This isn’t professional Thomas, you know. I can’t do…” She was cut short.

“He’d be giving you 250thousand naira apart from the IVF bills.” Thomas said.

“Really? 250 thousand for me alone?” Mimi asked happily.

“Yes.”

“Consider it done.’ Mimi said.

“Thank you. Your payment would be immediately after you’re done with it.” He said.

“No problem. Gosh! I’m happy. Thank you for this deal.” she said and alighted from the car waving him a goodbye.

He waved at her too and drove away.

Dammie called George and asked to meet him in a restaurant.

“So, I’m here why do you wanna see me?” George asked looking impatient.

“why are you in hurry? Where are you going?” She asked pissed off.

“Nowhere..just make it snappy.” He said.

“Okay. I need some money.”

“What!” He shouted.

“Are you insane? Why did you shouted? Don’t embarrass me please.” Dammie said.

“why won’t I shout? Tell me, what are you using money for?” George asked.

“I needed to do my hair. I have to fix my nails. I needed to change my wardrobe too…it’s been long. As well as…”.

“Shut up! Shut up. What are you saying? Do you think I work? How do you even think I live my life?’

” I don’t need to know. All I know is that I need some money. Transfer it to my account within today, tomorrow and the next tomorrow. You knew the amount.” She said.

“Warm my bed first then I’d send it to you.” George said lustfully.

“Send it first… Then I’d warm your bed later.” She said and stood up walking out of the restaurant swaying her butts.

George watched her leave and he left also.

Lunch Time

Samuel was in his office sitting down and resting her head on the seat head rest with his eyes closed thinking..

“Alice…Alice…” Was what he kept muttering.

The door to his office opened all of a sudden making him opened his eyes.

“I’ve been knocking for some minutes now. I almost believe you were not in. What’s up? Why are like this?” Cindy asked immediately she got in and sat down facing Samuel.

“Hey! How are you?’ He said trying to smile.

“It doesn’t answer my question.” Cindy said.

“I’m fine. Nothing is wrong.” Samuel said weakly.

“Alright. Let’s go eat take lunch. I’m driving and bills on me this time.” She said.

“I’m not taking lunch.”

“Why?” She asked puzzled.

“Nothing. I’m fine.”

“Really you are fine.” she said and walked to him.

She leaned in to him, their faces were just an inch to each other. They could feel each other’s breath as they stared at each other’s eyes.

Cindy let out her charming smile.

“Now, tell me again that you are not taking lunch and I’d leave.” She said still smiling sweetly at him.

Samuel didn’t knew when he smiled broadly.

“Gosh! You knew my weakness.” He said pecking her cheek.

She quickly stood up.

“You’re not allowed to do that anymore. I’m not a kid.” She pouted.

He stood up and moved closer to her…he leaned in closer to her ear, she could feel his breath in her ear…

“I’m still your best male friend…so I’m allowed till eternity.” He said and pecked her cheek again.

“Stop.” She smiled moving away from him.

“I just told you the truth” he said behind her as they walked out of his office.

They got to the fast food restaurant and ordered for what they’d eat and drink.

“Tell me, what’s up?” Cindy asked worriedly.

Samuel sighed as he dropped his fork.

Cindy stopped eating too as she held his hands in hers on the table and squeezed it gently.

“Calm down first. We’ve been friends before you got married and even before I met my own boyfriend. So, I don’t think there should be something we should hide from each other. I know and understand perfectly that marital issues are to be settled at home not to be spilled out but I’m your friend. You can always confide in me like always.” Cindy said care written boldly in her voice.

She let go of his hand and folded her hands around her body staring at him.

“Alice…I don’t understand her anymore.” He said simply.

Cindy’s mind immediately went to when she saw her in a hotel but she decided not to tell him.

“I don’t want to cause any chaos.” She thought.

“It’s well my dear. Give her some time or better still you guys should talk things out. Talk to her and see the outcome. Don’t just keep silent. Silence kills.” Cindy said.

“You got some point there. I will try and do that.”

“Yeah. Now smile.” She said as he smiled widely.

They talked more at length before walking out of the fast food restaurant.

“Cindy I noticed something shining on your left finger. What’s it?” He asked as he held her left hand.

Cindy stopped walking and faced him fully.

“Wow! This is awesome! When was it?” He asked surprised.

“Yesternight” she replied.

“congratulations my darling.” Samuel said and hugged Cindy tightly for so long before they disengaged.

Unknown to them, George had saw them and snapped them secretly.

“thank you. Let’s get going.”

“We’re celebrating it tonight after work.” He said.

“Sorry…maybe tomorrow. I’m going somewhere today.” she said as they got to the car.

“Ohh…okay then. Tomorrow.” he said and entered the car.

“Yeah.” She said and drove out of the parking lots.

They continued discussing about a lot of things till they got back to the hospital.

Cindy left work hurriedly. It’s some minutes to seven in the evening. It was a delivery that made her stayed late.

She didn’t even bother bading Samuel a goodbye as she drove out of the hospital.

She picked her phone to check the message Philip had sent to her during the day.

She nodded and drove to the direction.

“Welcome Cindy.” Philip greeted warmly as she got down from her car.

He was waiting for her outside.

“Thank you. Good evening.” Cindy said looking around.

“This way please..” Philip said as he led the way in.

Cindy followed gently still staring around.

‘It’s big.’ She thought to herself.

“Welcome miss. What should I bring for you?” Berry asked respectfully as soon as they got in.

“Please sit.” Philip offered.

She obliged and sat down on a black couch.

“You can tell her what you wanna eat and drink.” Philip said.

“I’m okay for now.” she said nervously.

“You’re in my house…you can’t say nothing. For the fact that, you’re just coming here , take something please.” Philip urged.

“Alright. Anything available.” She said simply.

“Everything is available miss. Just mention.” Berry butt in.

“Just give me some apple juice. I’m okay with only that.” Cindy said.

“Right away miss.” Berry said and bowed.

“You’re welcome to my abode.” Philip said again staring at her.

He couldn’t just help but drool at the beauty sitting before him.

“Thank you. Nice place.” She said.

“Thanks. You look beautiful.” He added.

“Thank you.” She smiled a little.

Berry came in with the juice and placed it on a stool beside her. She bowed and left.

They continued discussing different things… Till Philip noticed a shining ring on her left finger.

“You’re engaged?” He asked suddenly.

“Oh…yes.” She said happily.

He went cold then hot… But tried everything in him to compose himself.

“C…Cong…congratulations.” He said.

“Thank you brother Philip.” She said happily.

“You can just call me Philip. “Brothering” me sounds old.” He said.

“No, I can’t. You’re our pastor’s son. I can’t just address you informally.” Cindy said.

“But I insist..” He said.

“Well, I’ll be try.” She said.

That talked a little more and Philip found her so interesting and lively. He didn’t want her to leave anymore.

Cindy found him not really bad but still she was being careful with him.

She bade him goodbye after spending an hour with him before driving home.

Philip called Thomas to inform him of the latest development and he encouraged him more.

“Honey, I went to the hospital today for the In vitro fertilization processes.” Alice said to Samuel as they retired to bed that evening.

“Alice…how many times do we wanna go for IVF without any success. In vitro fertilization isn’t a cheap thing. We’re spending millions of naira on it Alice. Take a look at it, if we do this one, it’d make it the fourth time. Millions of naira in four places, Alice. Yet…I’m the only one footing the bills still no success. ” Samuel said.

“I know it costs us a lot of money but baby please. I need my own child. Please.. This might be a success, who knows?” She said sobbing.

“But you promised to make me happy always.” She added still weeping.

Samuel drew her nearer to him and hugged her car-ssing her back.

“It’s alright. I’d see to it.” He said.

“Baby…you’re to go to the hospital tomorrow to donate your sp**m.” Alice said.

“Okay. I’d go. Is that okay by you.?”

“Yes. Thanks honey. I love you.” Alice said smiling.

“I love you too. We can sleep now, right?” He asked.

“Yes.” She said and they lied down.

“Alice..” He called.

“are you keeping anything from me?” He asked.

Alice heart raced widely.

“No my dear. I’m still your faithful wife.” She said

“But, you’re doing some things you’ve never been doing before like shouting on me and…” He was interrupted.

“I’m sorry. It’s because I’m childless. I’ve been thinking about lots of things lately. That sometimes, I lose my mind. But I promise I’d be an obedient wife henceforth.” She said assuredly.

“Do you trust me that I can’t love any other woman apart from you?”

“Y..yes dear. I trust you very much. Are you doubting me too?” She asked.

“No. I trust you.” He said k-ssing her forehead.

“Thank you. I love you. Hope you’ve forgiven me of my silly acts?” She asked.

“Of course. I’ve forgiven you already.” He said.

“Thank you hubby.” She said pulling him to herself closely.

“Just know that, I won’t it if you keep anything away from me. Always let me know whatever that’s going on with you. I will perfectly understand, okay?”

“I’ve heard you baby. Thank you. I won’t keep anything away from you.” She said.

“Hope you’re not feeling any discomfort in your abdomen?” He asked car-ssing her th-gh underneath the duvet.

“Not too much. I’m fine.” She answered sleepily.

“Cindy was right. Talking things out.” He thought and smiled.

Soon, she slept off. Samuel sighed and called Cindy to let her know he might come to work late so that she’d cover up for him.

They talked for some minutes before hanging up.

Next morning…

Alice woke up early took her bath and prepared her husband’s breakfast.

He came downstairs and sat on one of the dining chairs.

“Good morning.” He greeted.

“Not even a peck or k-ss. Even last night.” She pouted.

“oh.. Sorry my dear.” He apologized to her.

He stood up and k-ssed her on her l-ips for some minutes before sitting again.

She smiled.

“Enjoy.”

He nodded and started eating. Soon, he was done. She packed the used plates to the kitchen before taking her bag and her husband’s.

They walked out and he opened the car door for her before he entered the car. The gatekeeper opened the gate for him and he drove out.

They chatted happily till they got to the hospital.

He left immediately for work after paying.

Alice sat in the doctor’s office waiting for her when her phone buzzed of a new message.

“You needed a surrogate.” The doctor said.

“the eggs we retrieved from you are perfectly okay same as your husband’s sp**m but you cannot carry a child.” the doctor said.

“How do you know I cannot carry a child?” She asked.

“You and I know that already.” The doctor said.

“Where do I find a surrogate?” She asked.

“It’s left for you and your husband to decide. But…how come you didn’t tell your Husband?”

“because I love him.”

“No, you don’t. If you love him you’ll tell him everything going on with you.’ The doctor said.

“It’s Okay. Just continue to shut up. If my husband know about it, you’re dead.”

“Just look for someone that’d carry the child for you.” The doctor said ignoring what Alice said.

“I’m not paying until I found a surrogate. And if my husband comes here…don’t say a word. Just tell him it’s going well.” Alice said as she gave the doctor some amount of money.

“That’s for you to shut up forever.” She said and stood up.

At the sight of money…the doctor’s face brighten.

“Thank you. Your secret are safe.” She said behind her.

Alice was sad and at the same time happy.

She was glad she was able to gather some money to give to George for her secret to be safe and also sad she just played with her husband’s feelings.

“How would he feel if he heard this?” She thought sadly as she waved down a taxi that’d took her to George’s place.

They were still in the act when the door suddenly opened.

“George!!!!” Dammie shouted on top of her voice. Anger was visibly written on her face as she advanced towards them.

George quickly pulled out of Alice as he walked to Dammie.

Alice was trying to wear her clothes.

“I’m sorry. I can explain.” He pleaded.

Dammie shot her a deadly glare before pushing him away as she advanced towards the shivering Alice.

Alice couldn’t look up to her face…she was visibly shaking.

Dammie scanned her for a minute before giving her a hot slap which made Alice looked up to face her.

“Dammie!” George called in shock as he held Alice.

“Let go of me. You bastard! It’s wasn’t your fault…it’s mine.” Alice said…she picked her bag and walked out of the house.

“Tell me more about her! Who is she to you!” Dammie demanded.

“How could you do that to her?’ George thundered.

“She doesn’t look like a slut or bitch. She looked like a married woman. Her finger was an evidence. Tell me who her husband is. I wanna tell him to warn his wife. I don’t joke with what’s mine. I can never joke with you!” Dammie yelled.
