“Miss Dammie Scott, the abortions you’re indulging in is becoming too much which is affecting you. I’m not guaranteeing you smooth abortion next time. Be thankful you survive this.” Cindy added staring back at Dammie.

“Doctor Cindy…you’re needed in emergency ward B.” A slim nurse said.

Cindy nodded and followed the nurse.

Samuel also left the ward.

Dammie clenched her hand into a fist.

“That stupid girl..you can’t go scot free…you’ll regret it sooner or later.” She muttered.

“What did you said?” Lizzy asked while Dammie shot her a deadly look. She went mute immediately.

EVENING..

“Samuel, say something. We’ve been seated here and staring at ourselves for like 5minutes now. Is everything alright?” Cindy asked worriedly.

They’d left work and had went to a very quiet bar to talk. Samuel had paid for the hours they’re gonna use in the sense that no one’s gonna come in to disturb them. They’re just the only one in the bar seated on a bar stool with two glass cup and a bottle of non alcoholic wine beside them.

Samuel took another long look at her before he looked away clearing his throat softly.

“Cindy…I believe you want my happiness, right?” He asked.

Cindy nodded.

“Of course. Why?” She added.

“I knew who you are and what you’re capable of doing before I decided to ask you this. Cindy, be sincere to me just like always. What do you know about Alice, my wife?” He asked staring at her.

Cindy was taken aback a little by the question. Her mind quickly drifted to the time she went to meet Alice in the noon.

‘Did he knew I went to meet his wife?’ She asked herself.

“S…Samuel, wha….what do you mean by what I know about your wife?” She asked.

Samuel smiled shortly as he held Cindy’s left hand in his both hands on the table.

“Cindy…I know you know something about her. Tell me please.” He urged.

“And even if I know something about your wife, do you expect me to start telling you? You’re couples…your business should be yours alone and not mine.” Cindy stated.

“Cindy. My candy Cindy, I know I don’t need a third party in my marriage. But sometimes third party is needed to shed light on whatever a marriage is going through. Cindy, please save my marriage by telling me the truth.” Samuel said still holding her hand.

Cindy gently removed her hand from his grip.

“No Samuel. Look for another third party that would shed light on whatever that’s happening to your marriage. It shouldn’t be me. It’s not right. If eventually something bad happen to the marriage, people will point finger at me as the one behind it. And you know I cherish peace out of every other thing in this world.” Cindy explained.

Samuel leaned more closer to her.

“Cindy… I promise you if you just tell me what I need to know about Alice, I won’t let a living soul knows you’re the one that told me. Please.” Samuel said.

“Even at that Sam. Even if you don’t tell anyone I’m behind whatever the outcome would be if I tell you , you and I will know I’m the one that tells you. Samuel I shouldn’t be the one you should be asking this…it’s beyond me.” Cindy said.

“Cindy…who else would I ask if not you?” Samuel asked almost in a whisper.

Cindy held his hand.

“Samuel, you know I love you and want your happiness. I don’t want to be the one to scatter your home. if eventually the outcome wasn’t okay, I don’t want to be the one behind your failed marriage. Try and understand me, please.” Cindy said.

“If truly you love me and want my happiness like you said, you should be able to save me from the woman I married. Her actions these days is giving me headache. Do you want me to continue like this? What if she eventually go on to kill me, will you keep saying all these?” Samuel said and the edge of tears.

“No. You’re not gonna die. But Samuel…I can’t. I’m sorry.” She said.

Samuel withdrew his hand from his hold and smiled sadly.

“Thank you.” He said.

He poured some wine into his cup and gulped it down his dry throat.

He stood up without saying any other word and left the bar.

Cindy buried her face in her hand feeling so sad.

“Why did I saw his wife in the first place? Why shouldn’t he be the one to see her himself? Now this?” She asked herself.

She picked her bag and left the place too.

Samuel got home and headed upstairs immediately But Alice’s voice stopped him.

“Welcome honey, your food is on the dining table.” She said.

He didn’t bother turning around as he just told her he’s not hungry before walking up to his room.

“But darling, I prepared your favourite. you’ll love it.” She shouted behind him but he didn’t listen.

Alice sat down dejectedly on a sofa wiping her tears with her palm.

“Finally what I avoid…what I tried hærd to avoid is finally happening. I hate my life. ” she cried h-rder.

Samuel got to his room and walked to the bathroom first after getting rid of his clothes.

He came out minutes later tying a white towel around his wa-ist.

He saw Alice’s phone ringing silently. He ignored it and sat down on the couch taking out his phone.

He saw Cindy’s call but ignored it. He didn’t call her back but rather tossed the phone aside feeling heavyhearted.

“Cindy’s right but I really needed her to shed more light on this…” He thought.

Soon…Alice phone stopped ringing and almost immediately a message popped in.

He didn’t want to check it but his mind directed him to. He didn’t bother touching the phone ’cause the message was shown on the screen.

“Gg.” He read. Gg was the sender of the message.

💬This is the second day of the new month and I haven’t seen my monthly payment from you. It’s better you do the needful or I expose you to your husband.💬

Samuel couldn’t close his opened jaw.

“Like seriously?” He exclaimed shockingly.

Alice entered the room almost immediately. She came to take her phone when she remembered it was in the room.

She was shocked seeing her husband in that position. Although, she didn’t find her phone in his hand but her mind wasn’t at rest.

“What if he had checked her phone? What if he had seen whatever that will implicate me?” She thought as she nervously went to the table to took her phone.

“Your food…” She said

Samuel stared at her suspiciously before walking to the closet.

Alice checked her phone and gasped for breath after seeing George’s message which she saved as ‘Gg’.

“Oh my goodness! Oh my God! Samuel surely saw this…I’m doomed finally.” Tears trickled down her face without being beaten.

Samuel came out of the closet looking at Alice but said nothing as he walked to the bed.

Alice looked at him still in tears with a sorry face.

“Sorry my dear…it’s nothing to worry about.” She said.

“Of course it should be nothing to worry about because I really have nothing to give to you anymore. I thought it was normal when I saw your bank account some times ago with nothing in it. But now, it’s cleared to me. You just helped and saved me from abnormal and unwise spending. Now I’d spend wisely on something more important. Don’t worry, I will stock up the store for you with foodstuffs. Eat and live well.” He said laying down.

Alice went on her knees immediately.

“What else do you want in a man? So all these years that is thought you’re using the money I’m giving you to do good things for yourself, I didnt know you’re giving it to another man for your secret to be hidden. I wonder what the secret is but it’d be expose soon. I promise. You ungrateful soul.” He added.

“please, dont do this to me. Please my dear. Dont do this…” She cried.

“How do you mean? It’s not as if I’m beating you or something.” He said sarcastically.

“Allow me to work then. I’d love to work if you’ll stop my monthly payment.” She said.

“You dare not and if you do… Be ready to sign a divorce paper.” Samuel said and left the room along with his phone.

Alice continued crying like never before. She cried loudly with effort.

Cindy was damn worried as she stared at her phone. She called Samuel but he didn’t picked it and did not bother calling her back either.

She refused to eat when she got home but had to cook up an excuse to convince her parent so that they’d let her be.

She didn’t know what to do as she just lied on her bed with the thought of Samuel in her head.

Her phone rang minutes later, she was glad thinking it’d be Samuel but it turned out to be Emmanuel. She’s happy though but she really wanna speak with Samuel.

She picked at the fourth ring and they discussed till she told him she’s sleepy.

Three Days Later…

Dammie has been discharged already with lots of warnings and drugs for her to use.

And she had started her improper acts with George again. He always f’ck her at any given chance.

And she has started working in Philip’s company.

Emmanuel and Cindy introduction was fast approaching and preparations has been going on smoothly as well as Mrs Veronica party’s prep.

Ever since Samuel left Cindy in the bar…he has been avoiding her giving her silent treatment making Lizzy to rejoice.

Philip didn’t relent in calling Cindy and She’s feeling she can trust him.

On the third day that Samuel has been avoiding Cindy. She decided to approach him.

They’re done with the day’s work and were preparing to go home.

Cindy walked to his office after she had taken her bag and car key but met no one.

“Looking for him?” She heard Lizzy’s voice behind her

She looked at her disgusting as she walked away.

“It’s obvious you want him to yourself but you’ll never have him if I’m still living.” Lizzy boasted raising her voice.

“Empty barrel shouts. You’re nothing but an empty barrel.” Cindy said smiling at her before she continued walking away to the parking lot.

Lizzy stood still in a position feeling hurt for what Cindy just said to her.

“Am I really an empty barrel? * she wondered

“But really…don’t worry. I won’t give up.” She assured herself.

“Goodnight nurse Lizzy.” a doctor greeted.

“Doctor John…bye” Lizzy said hurriedly rushing off.

Doctor John looked at her till she was out of sight.

“I wonder when you’ll understand.” He wondered as he continued walking.

Cindy was quick enough to meet Samuel before he entered his car.

“Samuel..wait up please.” Cindy said as rushed to him.

Samuel heard her but decided to ignore her again. He made to entered his car but Cindy quickly held his hand from behind making him to face her.

She was breathing heavily as they both stared at each other.

Lizzy stared at them from afar before walking away feeling sad.

“What is it, Cindy?” Samuel asked still not taking his from her.

“Really? Samuel…? ” she asked still not looking away.

They continued the staring competition not breaking it for once.
