She watches the baby crying,she felt pity for her and wanted to carry her out from the basket but an awful thought runed into her mind.

“What of the baby disappear as am about to carry her?
She thought still feeling sacred.

“No! She will not disappear,she looks so harmless and innocent besides she is just a baby she won’t do anything”
She thought again.

Her hands were shaking in fear as she was about to carry the baby,

“Shi…shi…shi… stop crying okay,am with you”
She said at the moment she carried the baby.

She sat down on the couch,she was the necklace and read what was written on it,

“My Eva! What a nice name Eva!
She sounded with smiles.

She realized that the baby is a real human and not a baby witch so the fear in her disappeared.

The baby keeps on crying until she sang a lullaby to her,she kept quite and slept off on her arms.

She stares at the baby with a sadness and pity face.

“What type of a mother will do this wicked thing? What type of a mother will abandoned her baby? The woman is so heartless to do this unimaginable thing no matter the circumstances she is facing or passing through that should not give her the right or the guts to abandoned a day old baby that need her the most after carrying her in the womb for nine months with the pains and still went in for labour with pains and s¢ræmed to pushed out the baby then she now have the mind to abandoned the child,I wonder the type of woman she is? She is so wicked and heartless,no atom of sympathy in her”

She said feeling so sorry and pity for the child.

“What is this world turning into? There are thousands of women in this world crying all day and night looking for a child to call them Mom,a child to call their own,a child that will embrace and hug them,a child that will run and welcome them after a long day at work,a child they will go out at the park and play together,a child that will s-ck their tender br××sts and make them feel like a mother for example someone like me”
She said painfully.

She cried as she remembered how life has been unfair to her.

Mrs Augustina has been married to her husband for eight years no child not even a miscarriage to show she is a complete lady,they have visited many hospitals for check up and the results always confirmed them medical okay,she keep on hoping and believing for the fruit of the womb,she devoted herself in giving the orphanages with materials things as little she can afford.

One faithful and blessed day,she visited the hospital due to the changes of her body system,the nurse runs some tests on her and it was confirmed positive of being pregnant.

On hearing that news her heart was filled with so much happiness,the way she felt that day was beyond human imaginations,she can’t wait to go home and share the miraculous good news to her darling husband Mr Louis.

The couple were overwhelmed with happiness and danced for the great news,what they have been expecting for a very long time have finally come to them.

Mrs Augustina started buying babies things for her daughter and things were moving some fine until one awful day of their lives the day her husband lost his job at the construction company,Mr Philip changed automatically he came a drunkard,a gambler and a especially a nagging husband that beats up his wife with any little opportunity but his wife keep on advising him that it’s not the end of the road he should like a courageous person he is that When God takes away something from your hands don’t think he’s punishing you,He’s just leaving you empty handed to receive something better.

Mr Phil¡ps hates when she advices him,he nagged and beat her up like a child without minding her condition.

She cried as she remembered how she lost the one thing she has been hoping and praying for,for the past four years.

FLASH BACK
Mr Philp came back home late at night drunkard as usual,the wife has been at the living room waiting for him, he knocked as she rushed to opened the door for him.

He came in,side with the smells of alcohol all over his body,
“Move out Woman!
He shouted at her and pushed her out.

“Why have you decided to be doing this to yourself? It’s complete two months since you lost your job,you have to get over it and stand like a man you are get another job this is not the end of the road,when doors closed another doors will open,my darling husband please stop turning yourself into something else,to a drunkard and a gambler, it’s not the right path”
She said.

He became so angry of her words,
“Did you just called me a drunkard?
He shouted angrily and gave a soundness slap that can wake up the entire neighbours.

“No my husband! That’s not what I mean”
She said teary holding her reddish left cheek.

“You opened that your silly mouth and called me a drunkard,today I will teach you how to respect your husband so that next time you will listen to your brain before spilling out nonsense from that silly mouth of yours”
He shouted angrily and brought out his belt from his pant and started flogging her mercilessly all over her body without minding her condition.

“Please have mercy my husband! think about our unborn child”
She cried out and pleaded for mercy and all her pleading went on deaf ear.

He keep on flogging her with the anger in her without considering the baby,Mrs Augustina cried and s¢ræmed for help the husband left her to his own satisfaction.

“Stupid Woman! Next time open that your mouth again and called me a drunkard I will skin you to death”
He shouted and flogged her again before leaving her to his room.

“Oh no! My baby! My baby!
She cried out at the moment she saw the blood that was flowing out from her private part.

Her neighbour Mrs Cantu heard her cried late,she rushed in immediately since the door was not locked.

She met her on the pool of blood,she felt so heart broken for her,she was crying so bitterly,she rushed her to the hospital and the Doctor told her that the baby is gone, she cried and cried and wanted to kill herself.

Mrs Cantu adviced her to call the social welfare on her husband but she objected with a silly reason that she loves her husband and she can’t stand and bear it seeing her suffer in jail,it’s better for her to keep on enduring all his ill treatment that she believes it will not last forever that her husband will change and things will balanced back to normal.

FLASH BACK END
She wiped out her tears and said,
“Is four years now since I lost my baby making it eight years of our marriage but the incident is still fresh to me like it happened yesterday”

“I know that this baby Eva have a purpose of coming to my house maybe she is a gift from God and I will nurse and take her like my own child”
She said with smiles.

Within a few minutes,Mr Philip came back home early today and drunk too,he opened the door and met his wife carrying a baby.

“What is this baby doing in my house? Have I not told you that I don’t any adopted child?
He shouted angrily.

She lay the baby on the couch and stood up to answer her husband.

“No! I did not ad……..

He didn’t allowed her to finished up her statement before giving her a painful slap on the cheek.

“I told you that I don’t any adopted child but you went ahead and disrespected me and brought in this baby”
He shouted angrily.

“No my husband,I did not adopt any child,this baby is God’s gift to me”
She said teary.

“What did you mean by that? Did God throw down the baby from heaven to you?
He asked confusingly.

She narrated everything to him but he didn’t believed her.

“What type of cock and bull story is this? You went at my back and adopt a child and you think you can fool me with this your lies? Am not a fool woman! Tell me the truth why did you went at my back and adopt this child after all the warnings I gave you?
He shouted angrily.

“My husband am telling you the truth,I did not adopt the child,I found her on this basket of groceries,please you have to believe me”
She said.

“One more lie woman I will lash you with this belt”
He shouted and brought out his belt.

“Please believe me,am telling you the truth,if you want you can go to the orphanage home and make requiring you will see that am telling you the truth”
She said trying to convince him to believe her.

“Okay since you said,you didn’t adopt the baby,you found her in this basket I accepted but the child will not be living here,you will take her to the orphanage home”
He said being so mean.

“I can’t do that,this baby is a gift from God to me and I will nurse and take good care of her like my own daughter”
She said boldly.

He gave giggling laughs,
“Then consider your life a more living life like the way it was for the past years”
He shouted and used the door.

She carried the baby to her room and lay her down on the bed.

“My Eva you are mine,I promise to nurse you like my own and be a mother to you,I will care and protect from any harm,I willing to face any more ill treatment from my husband to keep you as my own,nobody will take you away from me”
She said and gave her packed on her soft forehead.

“Sleep well my angel,let me go to the market and buy you food and some other necessary things”
She pecked her again before leaving the room.

She carried the baskets of the groceries to the store room and head to the market.

AT THE MARKET
Mrs Augustina went to the kiddies shop,
“What type of milk is good for a new born baby?
She asked the shop woman.

She recommended her the best milk,
“I also need some baby toiletries”
She said.

“Mrs Augustina I don’t understand,why did you need all this? Have your abusive husband’s mistress gave birth and brought the child home and you accepted the child whole heartedly because you are desperate of a child”
The woman mocked at her.

“Woman watch your tongue and mind your own business”
She shouted angrily and went out.

“Come back! Don’t take what I said as an insult please”
She shouted to her hearing but that didn’t make her to come back.

“What I said is simply the truth beside are you not a barren woman?
She sounded with sighs.

Mrs Augustina went to the other kiddies shop to get what she want.

MR Phil¡ps House
Baby Eva waked up and started crying unstoppable cry,
“Someone won’t have rest and peaceful sleep in his own house again? What type of thing is?
He shouted angrily.

He stood up and went to his wife’s room,
“What type of baby are you? Why are you disturbing my sleep with your cry?
He shouted angrily and carried the baby to the store room and dumped her there.

“Now can I have a peaceful sleep”
He said and lied on the bed.

An hour later,Mrs Augustina came back and dropped the baby food at the kitchen then went to her room to drop the rest of the thing.

“Where is my Baby? Baby Eva where are you?
She cried out at the moment she noticed the baby is no longer on the bed.

She went straight to her husband’s room because she know very well he is the one that took her.

She banged in without knocking,
“Where is my daughter Eva? Where did you keep her?
She shouted.

“So woman you have lost your respect and manners that you no longer knock you now banged in right?
He stood up from the bed and shouted.

“Am sorry please forgive me,I just want to know where you keep little Eva”
She pleaded with her hands folded.

He gave her a devilish laugh and said,
“You really what to know where I kept that baby witch?

“What have you done to her?
She asked in tears.

“Your little baby witch is in the store room and i know by now the rats there would have devoured her as lunch”
He laughed devilishly.

“At the store room!
She shouted surprisingly.
