Writer’s pov

“Veronica, you really need to calm down” Stephen said, getting into his car.

Veronica also got in a shut the door in a loud bang, she fastened her seatbelt and angrily tossed her purse randomly on the backseat.

“I can’t believe you and your friend, you’re both cowards” she gritted out and breathing heavily, her chest rising and falling as she fumed in anger.

“Cowards? How?”

His eyebrows knitted together in a tight frown and confusion flooded his face as he doesn’t seem to get what she meant.

“You just sat there speechlessly and couldn’t even speak for yourself in front of your ex-girlfriend…”

“How’s she my ex-girlfriend, we weren’t even in a relationshΒ‘p” he said, but quickly shut up when Veronica snapped her head towards him.

“I don’t care and don’t interrupt me while I’m still talking!”

He quickly nodded and raised his hands in surrender, then gestured her to continue.

“And that Jayden…he was just sitting there like a statue and let his uncle insult my Cinderella…” she paused and tilted her head. “…has anyone told him I don’t joke with my Cinderella?”

“Vero, let’s…”

“I hope I won’t get to see that uncle of his again or I swear to God, he’s gonna regret ever insulting Cassie!” Veronica said.

Every word she spoke held a promise, her eyes narrowed murderously as she stared blankly at the windscreen and she bumped her fist on her lap, which made Stephen jumped slightly.

“What are you gonna do?” He asked, staring at her cautiously.

“You’ll find out when I catch him alone…” she snarled, Stephen’s grip on the steering wheel tightened at once. “…start the car and get me outta here!” she growled.

“Yes, ma’am” Stephen replied and started the car quickly, then drove off speedily.

CHINA-TOWN, LONDON__12:47AM.

AT A BAR!

A man in a grey armani suit sat on a chair in a dark corner of a bar, with a glass of beer in his left hand and his right hand holding his phone.

He glared at the screen with very deep frown lines on his forehead, he angrily threw the phone on the table and turned to the lady sitting next to him.

“You said you’re going back to America, correct?” he asked.

“Hm-mm” the lady hummed.

“When would that be?”

“Not yet”

The lady reached for a packet of cigarettes on the table, she drew out a cigarette, balanced it between her l-ips and light it.

“Not yet?” the man asked.

“No” she replied and inhaled deeply, swallowing a large amount of smoke and exhaled almost immediately, pushing the smoke out through her mouth and nostrils.

The man stared at her and let his frown deepen, he banged at the table but the lady didn’t flinch.

“What are you doing? Don’t you see we have no time? He’s getting remarried soon”

“I know that” she said with a smirk.

“Then you should be thinking of going back, we can’t let your father’s hΓ¦rd work go to waste”

She rolled her eyeballs.

“Relax, I’m not in a hurry like my father, his haste sent him to his grave…I’m not him” she said with clenched jaws.

“Then what do you suggest we do?” He asked.

“We wait”

“We wait?” his eyes were wΒ‘dened as he stared at her unbelievably.

“We’ll wait for the perfect time to strike” she replied.

“But…”

She quickly cut him off with a raised of her right hand, she reached for his glass of beer and finished it in one gulp, then slammed the empty glass on the table.

“Trust me, I know what I’m doing” she said.

Cassandra’s pov

NEW YORK__8:50PM.

“Baby, I’m really sorry about my uncle’s attitude” Jayden apologized, finally breaking the comfortable silence.

“There’s nothing to be sorry about, it’s not your fault” I replied him with a smile.

We’re currently in Jayden’s car, which was parked a few meters away from my apartment and we’ve been here for about 20-25 minutes.

His uncle’s expression and words flashed back to me and I released a sigh, I guess I’ll have to stop crushing on Jayden now that his uncle doesn’t approve of us.

“Trust me, I’m really sorry and…” his words snapped me out of my thoughts.

“I know you’re sorry” I interrupted him. “But you don’t have to be, I mean, your uncle is right but it’s not gonna affect us”

He frowned slightly and tilted his head like he’s confused.

“It’s not as it we’re not getting married for real, I mean…we’re just doing this to get your daughter’s custody, right?” I said and laughed lightly as if my words sounded funny.

But Jayden didn’t find humor in my statement, his frown deepened and he adjusted on his seat to face me fully.

“Yeah, we’re doing this to get my daughter’s custody but I take you and everything concerning you seriously” he said with all seriousness.

Butterflies started jumping in my stomach at his words and I felt my cheeks flaming up, but I quickly flashed back to his uncle’s words.

“But it’s not about us….”

“Then who is it about?” he cut me off.

“It’s about your daughter” I paused briefly. “We’ll both get back to our normal lives after getting your daughter’s custody”

He wanted to speak but I didn’t give him a chance to before continuing.

“I think we should just tell them we’re not getting married for real, let’s explain why we’re pretending to be together and…”

My words were suddenly stuck in my mouth and I tensed as though I was electrified, as I felt warm and soft l-ips pressed against mine without a warning.

He reached forward, grabbed my head and pulled me closer, then started moving his soft l-ips against mine roughly as if he wanna swallow the wh0le of my l-ips.

I clutched my purse and closed my eyes to savour his sweet l-ips, but sadly he broke the k-ss a little too quick.

He rested his head on my forehead as he breathe heavily and his hot breath fanned my face.

“Let’s just go with the flow and forget about us separating after getting Isabella’s custody” he said in a raspy voice.

I opened my eyes and noticed he’s already looking in my eyes, I cleared my throat.

“But we….”

He cut me off with a peck.

“Don’t speak about us separating, let’s just take things as they come…can you do that for me?” he asked, still looking in my eyes.

I closed my eyes again and took a deep breath, I can just use this opportunity to know how it feels to be in a relationshΒ‘p…I mean I’m technically dating my crush.

“Baby, can you do that?” he asked again.

“Yeah” I answered.

He gave me a lingering peck and smiled at me, I smiled back weakly and pushed him away gently.

“I’m tired, I guess I should head in now and get some rest” I said, nodding at my apartment.

“Oh, ok”

I reached for the door and pushed it open, but Jayden caught my hand before I could step out and I gave him a questioning look.

“Aren’t I gonna get a goodnight k-ss?” he asked with a sly smirk playing on his l-ips.

I snatched my hand from him and scoffed, I quickly alighted the car and shut the door…then rounded to his side, he quickly wind-down.

“Are you really leaving without giving me a goodnight k-ss?” he asked.

“You’ve already gotten your goodnight k-ss” I told him.

“What? When was that?”

“You k-ssed me three time when we were sitting in the car” I reminded him.

“Oh, sh.it!” he exclaimed bitterly and gaped at me.

“Close your mouth, darling, or you’re gonna catch a fly” I told him.

“But you’re not being fair, baby”

I chuckled.

“No, I’m just smarter than you” I blew him a k-ssed, waved at him, flipped my hair and headed towards my apartment.

He only drove off after I entered my apartment.

“Why are the lights off? Is Vero not back yet?” I thought aloud.

My hand searched the wall until it hit the lights switch and I quickly turned on the lights, but jumped and yelped in fright when I saw Vero sitting on a sofa in the living room.

“Jesus! Vero, you scared me!” I queried her, placing my hand on my chest and p-nting.

“Why did you stop me?” she asked ignoring my words.

“Stop you?”

I walked towards a sofa and fell on it, gro-ning as my head landed on the armrest.

“Jayden’s uncle…why did you stopped me from lecturing him?” she asked clearly this time.

“Vero, mind your words, you can’t lecture him” I scolded her.

“And why can’t I?”

“Because he’s an elderly man and he’s old enough to be your father”

She scoffed loudly at my comment and folded her hands on her chest.

“An elderly man that has no self-respect shouldn’t be regarded as an elderly man”

Turning in the sofa, I threw my right leg on our small table and reached for a candy in a bowl on the table.

“Well, he was telling the truth, wasn’t he?”

“He wasn’t telling any truth, he was insulting you to make himself feel good…I hate people like him the most”

“Vero” I laughed.

“Honestly, you should have let me put him in his place and next time he’d learn to control his mouth”

“Do you know I saved your reputation back there?”

She raised her brows at me questioningly.

“You wouldn’t want aunt to think of you as some savage queen for insulting her husband, right?”

She shrugged.

“I don’t care what she would think of me, her husband disrespected us first, so he doesn’t deserve our respect” she said.

“You’re so unbelievable”

I got up and headed towards my room.

“I’m tired, good night” I told her.

“Hm, I love you and dream about me, make sure I’m a billionaire in your dream though”

I rolled my eyeballs.

“I sure will, I love you too” I replied her and dashed into my room.

My phone suddenly chimed, I reached in,side my bag and pulled it out only to see a text from Jayden…I opened it and it read.

GOODNIGHT, MRS GRASSI… DON’T MISS ME TOO MUCH, CAUSE I’LL BE IN YOUR DREAM TONIGHT.

I smiled as I stared at the text, he’s still in the mood to flirt, he’s such a weirdo.

To be continued.
