*Monday Morning*

Eva knew that the best person to give her soup to send her family is Benny, if she suddenly appears in the front door, Tyrone won’t let her go.

She might pretend not to notice Sam but she can’t resist the urge to br-astfeed Kate and bring her children close for a huge hug.

She had gone to dinner with Jake yesterday evening and wasn’t able to cook anything when she got to her apartment all tired.

The reason was that Jake had a tough time winning the beautiful lady’s heart, she had refused his offer to foot her bill.

She almost gave him a dirty slap but he was lucky because one of his favorite girls is a cousin to the lady in question and we coincidentally bumped into her.

She got her to see that Jake is a respected personality and was able to help with her number but the girl got guts and keeps playing hærd-to-get.

But Eva knows one thing is for sure, Jake and that babe look perfect together, Jake finally finds a girl that suits him.

He’s a nice guy and he’s forever crushing on Eva, but he loves and approves Sam and Eva’s union.

He might look and talk mischievously but he’s that lawyer that has used canny methods to return many homes to happiness and perfection.

Only Eva is worried if the method he’s using on her own marriage is going to work out, she prays so.

🌷EVA🌷
We changed the lunch to dinner when everything became over and we realized it’s already late.

I woke up early this morning and cooked my soup and fried plantain ch¡ps for their snacks, I feel awkward standing at our neighbors front door waiting for them to open the door.

Benny must be preparing for school and that’s why she isn’t replying the door immediately, I knocked, then tried the doorbell again.

“Yes! Am coming!!” I heard from in,side and moved backward. “Who?”

“It’s me, Eva” I replied, she opened the door immediately and smiled at me.

“Sorry, I was eating and Mummy is in the bathroom” she explained why I was kept standing at the door for a while.

“There’s no problem at all, how are you?”

“Am fine, good morning”

“Your night?”

“Nice, thank you”

“Okay, ehm… How are they doing, did you see them last night?” I asked about my family.

“Can’t you please come in and…”

“No, don’t worry, am fine here. I am on my way to work so it doesn’t matter at all”

“Okay, if you say so” she shrugged. “They are fine, just that Uncle Sam is finding it difficult to adjust to playing both parental roles in their lives”

“Well, that is a sure thing ” I waved off. “I was wondering if you could be chanced to give this food to them, they really love the soup I made”

“I will be glad to, they are fun to be with and very adorable!” She took the food flask from me without hesitation.

“Well, thank you but… I don’t want them to know that I came around”

“Oh, why?” Her mouth fell loose.

“Eva, are you the one there?” Benny’s mother came into view in the doorway.

“Yeah, good morning, Deborah” I greeted humbly.

“I was hearing you from in,side, why don’t you come in,side,” She said rumpling her w-t hair with a white towel.

“You see, I don’t have time by my side now and…”

“Let’s talk, Eva. Woman to woman, if you don’t mind standing, then let’s stand and talk. Benny, go in,side and prepare for school, you might be late” Deborah insisted.

She took the flask from her daughter and cleared her throat when Benny closed the door behind her. “Yes, Eva?”

She hung the towel on her shoulder and sat down on the front porch, her beautiful puppies came around with their mother taking the lead.

They crouched beside her on the porch and she smiled at all of them, “Eva, you sure you don’t want to sit?” She glanced up at me.

“See, Debbie, I could just come around sometime and we will talk, this…” I was protesting and looking steadily at my wristwatch but that didn’t bother her.

“Eva, why are you trying to ruin your marriage and put the well-being of your kids at risk?” She cut me off and I gaped at her.

“I… I don’t understand, whoever told you that…”

“Eva, you are very lucky but you don’t seem to notice, God blessed you with such an understanding man and amazing kids and I don’t see what more you want,” she paused and shook her head.

“Women! They never cease to amaze me, Eva, look at me. We might be considered age mates but I am older than you, maybe four or five years… I married before you even got engaged”

“I see” I uttered swallowing hærd.

“Do you know my husband?” She asked and I nodded, “good, how many times have you seen him around?”

“Well, just… twice”

“On his daughter’s birthday and the other when he came back to see his sick mother, he spent only two weeks with us on those visits and he came for a reason not even because he misses me or…”

Her voice trailed off, she continued, “but I stay awake all night praying for him, I don’t know if it’s easy for him out there or not but I love him and though I have every reason to be infidel, like…”

Her voice broke off but she wants to pour it out, I felt sad for her. “I could seek pleasure out there in the arms of another man but no, I can’t compromise my marriage no matter what!”

“I… didn’t mean to open your healing wounds” I mumbled.

“You didn’t, I feel better talking about it. Am just trying to make you understand something, men are different, you are gradually pushing Sam to the arms of another woman if you don’t know”

I was silent and looked dumb. This is the second time someone, another woman is telling me this and I know it’s true, but they don’t understand, they don’t!

“At least, for the sake of your kids, go home and settle whatever problem you have with Sam in your home, don’t you see you are heading to the wrong track?”

“I think I will have to go now, just… give me the food flask, I will look for a way and send it to them,” I said immediately feeling shameful.

“Eva, Sam loves you and you love him too. At times it might seem as though his work is his top priority and he’s neglecting his family, it’s for the good of the home you two are building”

She informed ignoring my end of discussion message. “I know, thank you,” I said and made to take my flask.

“Benny will send it to them, you can go but think about what I have told you, Sweet Eva”

I was going to ignore her but I can’t ignore the name that accompanied her words, Sweet Eva, it’s only Sam that never stops calling me Sweet Eva.

Good, she has been to my house and with the look of things, she and Sam had talked, about me, no doubt.

“Well…”

“You don’t want him to know you came around, don’t worry, I got you covered. I will take it to him myself and tell him I bumped into you when I went to drop Benny at school”

“Thanks, Debra” I forced a smile and turned to leave.

“Don’t give the devil a chance into your home, Eva. I hope you think about it. Stay safe and be good”

I turned slowly and stared at her in bewilderment, she wore a devious smile and I know what that implies, she better not think of it, I trust Sam.

I nodded like a lizard, adjusted my handbag, and gave her a go-ahead grin. “Good luck, Deb”

I mocked, isn’t she the devil I can see? How else does a devil look? I should have called Sandra to go over to my house, I realized just now how much of a fool I am.

🌷SAM🌷
“Dad, my socks are dirty!”

“Daddy, my shoe has dust on it!”

“Dad, there’s soap in my ear!”

“Oh, Dad, I can’t find my school bag!”

Complains everywhere! What have I gotten myself into? It shall never be well with Jake, never!!

Eva, why did you do this to me? You and know I can’t do all these alone, it’s true I messed up big time but this is too much, gosh!

“Dad, no one did my homework for me, my teacher will flog me and I don’t want that” Tyrone kept opening more purses of problems.

“Why didn’t you…” I shut up, took a deep breath, and talked more soothingly. “You should have said this yesterday”

“I told Bob and he said that Mum was gonna come back and do it, she’s the one that helps me do it” he whined.

There’s no justification over spilled milk, they are already late for school and I have to take it one at a time and take them to school immediately.

“Okay, all of you should go and eat, I will clean the shoe, do the assignment, and… what else? socks, I will buy a new one on the way, are we okay now?”

“Yes!” Tyrone and Bob chorused. They went to the dining to eat but Rose didn’t move.

“What, Sweetheart?” I inquired.

“My schoolbag,” she mumbled.

“Okay, I will help you find it, go and eat, you guys are already late to school and me to work, do you want your teacher to wh¡p you?”

“No, I will eat fast” she finally smiled and went to eat.

Well, even Rose that has always gotten her things in order and never complained about anything is searching for her schoolbag today of all days!

Sam, you had better get to work!

Cleaning Bob’s black shoe is easy, writing Tyrone’s homework was quick but Rose’s school bag, I almost got tired of searching for it before I saw it between Bob’s clothes in their closet.

Trust Bob, he must have stolen the bag to take something, probably a pen, from it but forgot to return it because his pen is never in,side his bag, his mother buys him a pen almost every day.

“Are we set to go?” I asked coming down the stairs with the bag, but they all had funny looks on their faces.

“Dad, Tyrone is purging” Bob talked first.

I looked over at my little buddy, he’s on his hands and knees vomiting everything he has eaten since yesterday, I became weakened by that.

Rose was poker-faced and Bob wore a sort face. Not funny at all. I finally cooked poison for them.

I lifted Tyrone into my arms and took him to the bathroom, his school uniform is ruined, who told me to dress them all up before giving them food?!

I cleaned him up and when I came out of the bathroom, I already have a visitor, she carried a food flask with her.

“Hey, Deborah, morning” I greeted with a feeble smile.

“I can see you had a sleepless night and a problematic morning, Sam. Children can be a handful and I see they are not enjoying their breakfast” She said straightforwardly.

“No doubt, I could have made tea and bread but I wanted a change so I prepared soup, and here is where it has landed me” I replied looking solemnly at Tyrone.

He’s all calm and breathed quite slow.

“Luckily for them, I bumped into their mother and she made an amazing bitter leaf soup and it’s so thoughtful of her as a mother to keep her kids in mind” Deb explained the flask she carried.

“Oh, I see” I nearly took the food from her but no! What does Eva think I am? She wants to show me I can’t take care of them without him, I will prove her wrong.

“Well, I already made tea for us, ” I said to the hearing of the kids and stepped closer to say the rest into her ear only, “tell her that we don’t need it”

She stood transfixed beside the dining table as I went about making tea and distributing bread to them, it was better, they ate quietly.

“Not bad at all! Are you sure about this, Sam? She fried some ch¡ps” Deb knows how to tempt.
