JAYDEN’S PENTHOUSE

Jayden kept checking his phone as if he’s waiting for a message to pop in, or waiting for his phone to ring, or actually checking the time.

He looked out his window with a very worried expression on, at that moment his phone’s ringtone blared loudly.

“Steve?” he asked rhetorically while staring at the screen.

“Yo, Steve” he answered.

“Jay man, I need your company right now -can you come out for a few drinks?”

Jayden found this offer quite tempting, because he could also use a few drinks since he’s feeling so frustrated.

He felt a tug on his p-nts, then looked down to see his daughter staring at him with an amused look…he signaled her to give him a minute.

“I can’t keep you company today, man” he replied Stephen.

“And why is that?” Stephen asked, disappointment clearly dripping off his question.

“My wife isn’t home yet, I’m home alone with my little girl and I can’t leave her to herself”

“f–k!” Stephen cursed. “Really need your company, man”

“I’m sorry, Steve”

Isabella signaled her father to hand his phone over and he did, she quickly put the phone closer to her ear.

“Uncle Steve, dad and I have a very important meeting, call him back later” and just like that, she hang up.

“Alright, Miss Isabella Grace Grassi, that was very rude”

“I’m sorry” she muttered.

“You know, sorry can’t solve everything”

She nodded, handing his phone back to him and began pulling him towards a sofa.

“Dad, I know what’s gonna cheer you up” she said.

“Hm”

“You want Cassie to come home early, right?”

“Hm” he hummed in reply.

“Alright, let’s watch beauty and the beast”

“Huh?”

“Let’s watch beauty and the beast, I have a perfect plan” she said.

Jayden stared at her with a frown.

“What are you planning, little woman?”

“Something huuugee” she replied, grinning.

Cassandra’s pov

“You mean, you’re not gonna give me grandkids?” Mrs White asked, her husband was holding her back because she seem like she’s gonna cut off Brad’s head any minute.

Right, Brad just finished explaining things to his parents, but his mom’s still finding it hΓ¦rd to digest it.

“Mom, I can give you grandkids…”

“How?” She asked.

“Through surrogacy or adoption…”

“SHUT UP!” his mom shouted, making me flinch away from Brad and hug a wall behind us.

I mean, an angry Mrs White is not a good thing at all.

Oh God, if only you could just save me right now -I promise I’ll be a regular church goer and I’ll pay my tithe every sunday.

Well, God is merciful, he must have heard my prayers because my phone started ringing, I quickly reached for it.

“Hello?” I answered without even checking the caller’s ID.

Brad turned to me and I pointed at my phone, he nodded and I rushed out.

“Cassie?” I heard a very young female voice.

I frowned and wondered who’s child’s calling, then my mind flashed back to Isabella -Jayden’s daughter.

“Yes, Bella” I answered.

“Cassie, where are you?” she asked in a very scared voice.

“I’m.. I’m out with a friend…”

My got stuck in my throat when I heard a crash, Isabella released a short scre-m that sent shivers down my spine -bad shivers.

“.. wha-what’s going on over there?” I asked her.

“It’s dad, he’s throwing tantrums and throwing things too” she answered.

Oh my God, what’s wrong with Jayden? I told him to go home and cool off, why’s he still so angry?

“Cassie, you need to come home right away or we might not have a place to sleep tonight” she said.

I glanced at Brad and saw he’s still trying to comfort his mother, I sighed.

“I’m scared, please come soon” Isabella cried on the phone.

Maybe I should really head home now, it seems like Brad can take care of the situation from here, anyways I should also start prioritizing my new family now.

I sighed.

“Alright, just stay where you are and wait for me, I’ll be home in ten minutes”

“Ten minutes?”

“Yeah, just ten minutes”

“Ok” she hanged up quickly.

I better go tell Brad that I’m leaving, only God knows what’s suddenly possessed Jayden that he’s throwing stuff -I pray he doesn’t hurt Isabella before I get home.

As if luck’s on my side, Brad looked my way and I called him quietly, he nodded and said something to his mom, before heading my way.

“Hey, sweetheart, is everything ok?” he asked when he got to me.

“Nothing much, something came up and I have to go home right now”

“What happened? Do you need my help?” he asked.

I shook my head.

“It’s just a family issue”

“Family issue?” he stared at me with a frown, he must be wondering which family I’m referring to.

“Er…” I cleared my throat. “…I’m married and I have a daughter now”

“What?!” he shouted, catching everyone’s attention -even his parents in,side their ward tilted their heads towards us.

“Will you quit yelling?” I snapped at him. “You’re making it seem like I’m raping you”

“Isn’t this worse than raping me? When did you get a boyfriend? When did you get pregnant? Why are you suddenly married? Or are you going…”

He paused and reached forward to feel my temperature.

“… loco?” he asked.

I glared at him briefly and sighed.

“I’ll explain everything to you some other time, I really have to go now” I said and hurried off not giving me a chance to keep me there with his series of questions -cause I know he’s got a long list right now.

JAYDEN’S PENTHOUSE

Isabella quickly hanged up and turned to her father who was already looking at her, with his eyebrows raised questioningly.

She broke into a smile and gave him a thumbs up, he opened his arms which she dived right into.

“Yeah, that’s my little devil” he praised, placing a k-ss on her right cheek.

Her eyes moved to the tv, a male cartoon character from the show they were watching, carried a plate and threw it at another character -the other cartoons opened their mouths in shook as they watched the plate fall and crashed.

“Cassie wouldn’t know we tricked her, she thought you were really throwing things” Isabella said.

“Yeah, you acted your part so well” her father replied.

“Where’s my reward?” she asked opening her palm.

Jayden reached for some sliced papaya and shoved a piece in her slightly opened mouth, she glared at him in return -playfully though.

“You said you’re gonna take me out to get ice cream” she whined.

“Look” Jayden pointed at the wall clock. “It’s already late”

Isabella crossed her arms on her chest, chewed slowly on the papaya in her mouth and turned away from her father, making an angry expression which also made her face go red.

“Don’t give me that spoiled princess’s look, Isabella” her father cautioned her, but she simply scoffed.

“I’m not talking to you, daddy” she grumbled.

Jayden’s shoulders shook as he laughed quietly, after studying her for a brief moment.

“Fine, we’ll go out tomorrow” he promised her.

“Really?!” she asked excitedly, as her face instantly light up.

“Yes, you, your mom and I, we’ll all go out and have some fun”

“My mom’s coming too?” she asked, her excitement died down a little.

The smile on her face faltered, she looked down on her lap and started playing with her fingers. Jayden noticed this, he knew what was on her mind immediately and he car-ssed her cheeks softly.

“I’m not talking about Matilda, I’m talking about your second mom, Cassandra” he explained.

“Oh” she exclaimed, curving her mouth in an O shape.

All the excitement that has vanished from her face in few seconds, came rushing back and she couldn’t help but smile brightly.

“Are you happy now?” Jayden asked.

“Yeah” she replied.

“Good, now let’s talk about how you address Cassandra -didn’t I tell you to call her mom?”

Isabella couldn’t answer, she simply blinked her big round blue eyes and bite her lower lip.

“She’s your mom now and you can’t keep calling her Cassie, it’s disrespectful, young lady” he scolded her.

“But…”

“There’s no but about it, you’ll call her mom starting now” he said sternly.

Isabella sighed and nodded.

Cassandra’s pov

“Thank you, sir” I thanked the taxi driver as I alighted his taxi.

“You’re welcome ma’am” he said, offering my charge.

I shook my head and pushed the charge back to him.

“You can keep the charge”

“Oh, you’re so kind, thank you” he thanked me.

“You’re welcome, bye” I waved at him with a smile and headed towards the tall building where Jayden’s home is.

Just when I arrived at the elevator, my phone started ringing loudly and I reached for it immediately -it must be Isabella calling again.

But checking the caller’s ID, I realized it’s Vero calling.

“Hey, girlfriend?” I answered the call.

“Cinderella, I’m so down and I need so comfort, some words of encouragement” she said.

I laughed, she’s must be messing around.

“I’m sorry, Vero, I can’t comfort you today” I told her.

“Why not?” she asked.

I sighed.

“My husband and daughter are waiting for me at home, I should have gone home earlier but…” I trailed off.

I turned, facing Brad and his parents.

“Your husband and daughter, you’re really getting in your character, right?” Vero asked.

“Yeah, the earliest I get used to it, the better for Isabella”

She scoffed loudly.

“RelationshΒ‘ps, marriages and husbands s-cks!” she growled.

A frown appeared on my face at her words, I could hear her voice clearly now and I found out she sounded quite upset -what has happened? Is her dad back?

I shivered at the thought and felt goosebumps growing on my arms, it wouldn’t look good if her dad’s back.

“Vero….”

“I hate men” she cut me off. “I hate that species”

“I’m really sorry I can’t meet with you today, but trust me we’ll talk about this tomorrow” I assured her.

“I…I have to go” she said and ended the call before I could utter any words.

A tired sigh escaped my mouth and I leaned against a wall, I would have gone to see her but my husband is already angry, I don’t wanna offend him even more.

To be continued.
