Red apple episode 6
“Payback”

“I will be an instrument for you to work through” She said and just walked away.

I was murdered just because Ruth and Eugene feared that I might expose them to Selorm. They valued their secret more than my life. But why would Eugene allow her girlfriend date another guy? This was one question that I couldn’t answer and I intended coming to bottom of it.

Indeed Mary was really gifted and somehow I was able to possess her and eventually worked my way back into the Selorm’s marital home. My only motive was to hand over my diary to Selorm. That was where I wrote everything. Now, the time had come, I was able to lead Selorm into the house of Eugene. That was where he met his wife comfortably sleeping onthe laps of his own friend Eugene.

I thought I was making things right so that my soul could finally rest in peace but little did I know that the worse was about to happen.

-SELORM’S NARRATION CONTINUES:

This was where I stood now, full of shock as I watched my wife in the hands of my best man. They both got surprised as they saw me standing at door looking at them.

“Selorm” Ruth shouted. That was the only thing that could come out of her l-ips. I needed an explanation for what i had seen, how could she have done that to me?

“I can explain Selorm” She said. To my surprise Eugene, whom I thought would be so sorry for his actions rather busted out.

“You have no explanation Ruth, your husband deserves this.” Eugene said. “Why should you even be surprised about this? Tell me. After all what you did to me, I’m sure you don’t even remember.”

“What are you talking about Eugene” I asked as I began to wonder what he actually meant. What could I have done to him for him to repay me this way?

“So soon you have forgotten” He said. Then he started revealing everything to me. “Have you forgotten? you stood in my way when I wanted to get close to Emefa way back when we were kids? Well I could easily get pass that because I remember I beat the hell out of you but then again, when I was blind dating her, you came along the way. She told me, she had feelings for someone else, she told me to stay away from her just because of you. Selorm, where I come from, I don’t lose, I always win.” Eugene blurted out.

I couldn’t believe it, so all along Eugene was my mate back in school, well it’d been so many years, I didn’t really remember but I knew Eugene was just sick in the head for him to have used this reason to do that to me. That was when I noticed how to stupid my wife was. To Eugene, my wife was just an instrument. Just like me, she also didn’t know about this, all along she thought Eugene was one guy who really loved her, as for me, she was just with me for money.

Then Eugene began to take it far. “And guess what, you are not the father of your so called daughter, I’m her biological father. Your wife was pregnant for me before you two got married” He revealed. Ruth stood beside him and couldn’t utter a word.

This had gotten to me, I couldn’t take it now, I was so full of rage. I had never felt such anger in my entire life. Eugene stood there and made mockery of me and that was so beyond my limit. I’m a human and blood flows within me as well. I let my anger take hold of me to the extent that I jumped on him so hærd he fell down hitting his head so hærd on floor.

That was it, Eugene was dead and I had killed him. There he laid, in hispool of blood. I was now officially a murderer. I began to shiver, not knowing what to do. Ruth was also there beside me, she was as scared as I was. I quickly dashed off and left the premises before it was too late.

I rushed into my car and drove off as fast as I could in an attempt to escape. In no time, I had gotten home. I rushed to my daughter’s room. Yes my daughter, I didn’t care who her father was, as far as I was concerned, I brought her up and that made me her father. I then picked up some few shirts and began packing them into my travelling bag.

Then suddenly, I heard a knock on the door, the knock was soo loud that I had no option than to rush and open the door. That was it, there stood Ruth and some couple of police men. They handcuffed me and then arrested me for the murder of Eugene.

“I’m Emefa”

That was it, there stood Ruth and some couple of police men. They handcuffed me and then arrested me for the murder of Eugene.

This is where I stand now, awaiting trial. Behind these bars with no hope for the future. Probably this is were I am going to spend rest of my life. I don’t know the whereabouts of my wife and daughter. Ruth handed me over to the police so I didn’t expect her to come to my rescue.

Mary led me to the truth but my angry heart brought me here. I cried day in and day out. I didn’t see myself coming out of this situation. I killed someone. It wasn’t in self-defense, I attacked him and eventually that led to his death. I didn’t know what to do now, except to wait for my trial.

I happened to have smuggled Emefa’s diary into the cells and that was where I began reading everything. Then I saw who I had married. Emefawas in love with me and so was I, yet we were failing to admit it but rather giving the chance to people who didn’t deserve to be in our lives.

All along I didn’t see the signs, signs that Emefa was trying to protect me from this girl. She didn’t even know about my wedding. Ruth on the other hand made me feel that Emefa didn’t want to see me at all, not to talk of coming to my wedding. And It hurt me that she carried that to her grave.

But I found it strange how Mary was able to find all this out and how she got hold of Emefa’s dairy. Come to think of it, this was the time I needed her help most and she was nowhere to be found. I wasn’t even allowed to contact anyone because of how serious my charge was. Ruth claimed she was a witness and that even made my situation worse, neither did I also deny it. That was the truth, I attacked him and eventually he died out of my attack.

Surprisingly, as much as I was afraid that I was going to spend the rest of my life in prison, I wasn’t so much bothered that I had committed such crime. Deep within me, I was satisfied. That was not the result I was looking but I felt that was just the best. I was guilty yet satisfied.

Just when I thought all hope was lost, I had a visitor. I had that right because I was in a holding cell awaiting trial. I didn’t know who she was and where she came from but trust me, she was the most prettiest lady I had ever set my eyes on. She was little bit fair in complexion, with a tiny lip which had red l¡pstick on it to match her color. She wore a fitted cooperate dress with a bunch of files in her hand.

Her figure was just exceptional, her calfs were very fleshy. She was just a goddess. For a moment, I forgot where I was and was just admiring such a beauty. Why was she after me anyway? I didn’t know her from anywhere. With a guard standing right behind, monitoring, she sat in front of me while I was in hand cuffs.

This should have been a date, but here I was, a prisoner. If only wishes were horses. “Selorm right? She asked. I heard her though but her sed-ctive tiny voice got me distracted.

“Hello…” She said then I became conscious .

“Sorry, yes, I’m Selorm” I answered.

“Very well then, I have read all about your case and have studied it. I want you to tell what really happened on that day” She said.

I didn’t feel right to answer that question; I didn’t know who she was so I inclined immediately. “Excuse me, Who are you?” I asked her.

She looked at me in a surprise way as if I was supposed to know her already. Notwithstanding this, she was ready to answer me.

“I am a human right lawyer, Mary is a friend of mine and I’m doing this because I owe her a favor” She answered. I was relieved then. She was a lawyer, wow, I was just amazed as she said that. As dumb as I was, I could have easily noticed it with her outfit.

“where is Mary by the way? I asked.

“Selorm, are we hear to talk about Mary or you” She said. She was that strict and really meant business. Well, it was for my own good so I had no option.

I opened up to her and told her everything from scratch. She listened carefully as she jotted some points down. Even during the narration, she would watch straight into my eyes and that even made me fumble. But any time I did that, somehow she watched away just to let me feel at ease.

Having said my part, she came in with what she had to say. “As serious as this case maybe, I will like you to trust me, I have never lost a case before and I don’t intend losing this one. For now, what I will tell you is, don’t answer to any authorities. Always request for your lawyer, which in is Me. I will treat this case as an accident, then we will see where it goes” She said.

That was so professional and right, I had confident and was full of hope now. I was just grateful for this. I then expressed my gratitude as she prepared to leave. But come to think of it, I didn’t know her name and so I quickly asked. She turned around and looked at me.

“I’m Emefa,  but I prefer you call me Fafa” She answered.
“The Visit”

“I’m Emefa, but I prefer you call me Fafa” She answered. Having said that, she left right afterwards. I wondered if I had any bond with ladies by name Emefa. It seemed anything good that came into my life had something to do with someone called Emefa.

I went back to my cell where I waited for a breakthrough. Mary had gone all the way to look for a lawyer for me yet I didn’t even know her whereabouts. She on the other hand too never bothered to visit me. I just wanted to see her so I could clear my doubts.

I needed to find out how she got hold of Emefa’s diary. Now, I was stuck in a situation where I could hærdly do anything. I began to even wonder the whereabout of my daughter. I still regarded Eugene’s daughter as mine though I knew I was not the biological father. I named her, I watched her grow up and there was nowhere I would leave her in the arms of that witch, Ruth.

I should have told lawyer Emefa to check in on my daughter for me. If anything at all, I knew she wasn’t safe with her mother. It’d been three nights since Lawyer Emefa came to see me. I was beginning to wonder if there was no luck in fighting for me with a case like that.

At that time, though I didn’t have access to a clock, I could tell it was very late. We were about eight in the holding cell and all my cell mates were asleep. I could hærdly sleep at all ever since I was arrested. The cells wasno place for me, and if luck, was not on my side, i was going to end up spending my life in Nsawam prisons which might even be worse than what i was going through.

There was total silence except for the annoying noise that was coming from my cell mates as a result of their snoring. I couldn’t sleep at all. Initially, I thought it was going to rain as all of a sudden a cold wind blew across the entire cell. Whiles others were sweating and couldn’t keep up with the heat in the cell, I was so cold.

Was I getting sick or something, I asked myself that question. I was sitting on the bare floor with my shots and just a singlet. That was the only attirewe were allowed to wear in the cells. Then suddenly I felt that there was someone watching me. I couldn’t see anyone but my instincts told me that I was been watched.

I began to look around but couldn’t find anyone. This continued for about five minutes until suddenly I began to smell Emefa’s perfume again. I was now getting used to it, any time I smelled that perfume, something strange was about to happen. Then the wind became chillier, I began to shiver. My wh0le body, especially my arms were covered in goose pimples.

Then I heard a voice, a very familiar tiny voice, there was no doubt, it was Emefa’s voice. She called my name, and before I knew it, Emefa was seated right beside me on the bare floor as well. I became so scared; I couldn’t even scre-m or even run away. It was like; I wanted to do all this at a go but ended up doing none of them. All I did was to shiver. There was no doubt that this was real. I had seen her and she was sitting right beside me in tears. She was wearing the exact same dress I saw her in the last time I set my eyes on her.

“Don’t panic Selorm, I just want to talk to you” She said. I couldn’t talk back, all of a sudden, I was chocked on my own words. Nothing could come out of my mouth.

“Selorm, I miss you” She continued.

“I’m glad you know the truth now, but I didn’t know it will come to this. But Trust me, everything will be fine” She said.

I was just sitting there rigid, I didn’t want to turn and look at her because I was so afraid. She kept talking.

“Emefa will help you out, She is my dad’s company’s lawyer.” She said. “Selorm, I came to say goodbye, the one who did this to me will not be happy. All I wanted was for you to see who she really was, be safe, I love you” She said.

That was the last thing she said, the cold breeze stopped suddenly and I instantly began to feel the heat. She was nowhere to be found now. This was real and I wasn’t going mad after all. I began to cry, Emefa only told me how she felt only after her death and that hurt me so much. I sat down there awake till the following morning.

I had a second visit; I thought It was the Lawyer Emefa coming to give me an update. I was esc-rted out to the visitor’s area only to see Ruth  and my daughter waiting for me.
