CHAPTER SEVEN
A hand handed me some snacks. I collected it and eat with joy.
âYou must have been so hungryâ. Feiye sat on one of the tree which had been cut down by him.
âDo you have moreâ? I sat beside him.
âYou haven’t even cut down the tree yet you’re asking for more foodâ.
âI’m just hungryâ. I finished eating the snacks. âTaste good. Where did you get itâ?
âDown the streetâ.
âThey sell good snacksâ. I smiled.
âAnother sliver penny deducted from your salaryâ.
âWhat? Why are you treating me so badlyâ?
âIt’s for the payment of snacks you just ateâ. He got up. âGo back to your workâ. He left.
âOne penny. Two and one. That’s three. Wait a minute. Ain’t my earnings three penny per day. Oh lord. He’s so mean. How will I be able to gather some moneyâ.
A hĂŠrd knock came on my head.
âAwwâ. I cried out.
âWake up. Time to workâ. Feiye voice said.
âIt’s still early. Can you let me sleep moreâ?
âA penny deductedâ.
âWhy are you doing this to meâ?
âMaking twoâ.
âOh God. I hate you! I hate youâ!!
âI can make it three. Just go back to your work before I changed my mindâ.
FINALLY!!! I stared at the huge tree on the ground. I finally made it after a month. I wiped away the beads of sweat on my forehead.
âNice oneâ. Feiye smiled. âNow to the second oneâ.
âYou got to be kidding me. It took me a month to cut this downâ.
âI never said to cut another tree. I meant the second stage. Tree cutting were only to improve the strength of your wrist. You’re someone who gives up easily so I just thought of giving you some work to do. That’s why I agreed to pay you three penny per dayâ.
âOh! So you meant to say you were training meâ.
âYeah. I’m sorry if I was being harsh. That was the only way to keep you goingâ.
âYeah you were really harshâ. I couldn’t forget the times he would made me go to bed with hunger. He was really mean.
âHow about I treat you to a feastâ.
âReally? You promiseâ?
âI never go back on my words. Change into something clean and let’s get goingâ.
âSureâ. I ran in,side happily. A feast? The mean guy is really going to treat me to a feast.
San walked in quietly. Vagamound had summoned him to the emotionless palace. There’s no going back. He should take responsibility for all what he’d done. It’s been a month now. Zanillia should have probably find a place to settle down. He stopped in front of the enchantment barrier Vagamound had made. None could pass it. Vagamound was the one with the highest cultivation power among the seven of them. If the six of them joined hand together to fight him, they still won’t match his level. That’s why legend calls him the legendary master.
âYou called for meâ. San said.
âYesâ. Vagamound answered from in,side. âAbout the girl____â.
âI’ll take all the punishmentâ. He cut in. âShe did nothing wrongâ.
âI just wanted to ask if she’s doing wellâ.
âHuhâ. San looked perplexed. âWell, yesâ.
âBring her back to the palace before a week to the testâ.
âSureâ.
âHow are things going outside the realm? Anything suspicious about the fire sectâ?
âThere’s nothing unusual about them. They’ve kept their heads lowâ.
âYou shouldn’t let your guards down. Send more spies to watch over themâ.
âSure. I’ll do that right awayâ. San left.
Feiye and I were busy practicing with our swords.
âYou’re some tough chickâ. I swung my sword at him.
âChickâ? He dodged it. âAin’t you classifying me to some lowly creatureâ?
âIt’s just some slangâ. He point his sword towards my neck. I lost again. âYou’re skilled than me. That’s why you always winâ.
âI think your fighting skill is also goodâ.
âDo you think I can win in the competitionâ. I found a place to seat and sat.
âWhy notâ. Feiye sat beside me. âOr you think you can’tâ?
âI don’t know. There are so many people who are better than me. Xinger, Janice. Including the princess. She’s so pretty. She has even caught the attention of the seventh lordâ.
âI think you’re also prettyâ.
âMe? No I’m not. I was never pretty to begin with. Zanillia is even prettier than meâ. I forced a smile.
âBut you’re Zanilliaâ.
âNever mind. You won’t understandâ.
âYou shouldn’t give up on yourselfâ. He held my hand. âI think you can win in the competition. I’ve faith that you can do itâ. I stared at him. I didn’t knew when I burst into a laugh. âWhat’s funnyâ?
âYou’reâ. I said still laughing. âHave you been reading nice word to say to girls recently. It doesn’t fit you at all. I prefer your cold selfâ.
âAre you making fun of meâ?
âIt’s really funny. You should look at yourself in the mirror. I’ve faith that you can do itâ. I mimicked him and laugh.
âFineâ. He got up and frowned. âI want five trees down in an hourâ.
âWhatâ? The laugh on my face fade away quickly.
âYou like my meaner side don’t you?. Well, it’s time for you to enjoy itâ. He smiled. âYour time’s tickingâ. He left.
âWhat! Fiveâ! Not even one. It took me a month to cut one down. I shouldn’t have mimicked him. Who knew it would turned out like this.
âZanilliaâ. Janice hugged me as soon as she saw me. âI thought something bad might have happened to youâ.
âI’m perfectly fine okayâ. She let go of me.
âAfter you left, the princess and Natasi bullied me so badâ. She said. âDo they think they would win? Hmp. In their dreamsâ.
âLet’s forget that. What’s there to eat? I’m starvingâ. I sat on the chair. That devil Feiye made me go hungry for days.
âLet’s prepare some chicken soupâ.
âAlrightâ. We both made for the kitchen but ended up bumping into someone. It was Sean. Janice and I bowed slightly and greeted him.
âWhat bring the seventh lord hereâ? I asked.
âI…..I heard you’re back so I came to check on youâ.
âThanks for your kindnessâ.
âJust cut the formalities. It’s not like it’s our first time meetingâ.
âI dare not. You’re the seventh lord while I’m just a lowly mortalâ.
âAre you afraid Eason might punish you? Don’t worry he won’tâ.
âI hit you so I deserved to be punishedâ.
âThat’s in the past. I’ve even forgotten about it. Look, my face is all fine. You don’t need to feel guilty any longerâ.
âIf you say so, then I’ll do as you sayâ.
âSo where are you heading toâ?
âKitchenâ. Janice answered. âTo prepare some chicken soupâ.
âOh! Why don’t you join me in the immortal palace. I’ve told the maids to prepare all kinds of food but I don’t think I’ll be able to finish them all on my ownâ.
âReallyâ? Janice exclaimed.
âYeahâ.
âI’llâ. She jumped with joy.
âWhat about you Zanilliaâ? Sean looked at me.
âI…… Yeah, sure. We’ll join youâ.
âThat’s goodâ. He smiled.

CHAPTER EIGHT
It was more like a banquet. So many food to eat. It’s been long since I saw food this much. Janice has already started eating. I made to eat until I noticed this handsome young man before me had been starring at me all this while.
âCome on, eatâ. Sean said.
âSureâ. I start to eat but he wouldn’t stop staring. âWhat about you? Ain’t you eatingâ?
âNo. I’m not that hungryâ.
âOkayâ. I continued to eat.
âHow have you been preparing for the next test? I heard it’s martial arts skillâ.
âYes. I’ve been practicing hĂŠrd for the past two monthâ. I answered.
âThat’s goodâ. He smiled. âWhat about you Janiceâ?
âMeâ? She swallowed the food in her mouth. âWell yeah. Just some little steps to practiceâ.
âNiceâ. Just then, someone walked in. It was San. âBrother Sanâ.
âThis was where you wereâ. San sat. âI’ve been looking everywhere for youâ.
âI’m sorry I got you worried. I was just treating Zanillia and her friend to a mealâ.
âGreetings fourth lord Sanâ. Janice and I greeted.
âHow have you beenâ? He asked me.
âDoing goodâ.
âI searched everywhere for you the next day but you were nowhere to be foundâ.
âI couldn’t go out because of the death curse on my head. A nice person took me inâ. Nice? I got to be kidding myself. Feiye is the worse person ever.
âThat’s great. Care to join me for a tea this eveningâ?
âI……I don’t think I can. I’m meeting someone this eveningâ.
âIs that so. If then, let’s have it tomorrow morningâ.
âOkay thenâ.
He was already there before I even arrived.
âYou’re earlyâ. I walked towards Feiye.
âHmmmâ. He nodded. âSo how are you doingâ?
âGood. They treats me well. Sean also treated me to a mealâ.
âThat’s good to hearâ.
âSo why did you want us to meetâ?
âNothing. Just wanted to see your faceâ.
âMy faceâ? Not like you treat me well.
âI can hear thatâ. He said.
âI knowâ. We both sat. âDo you miss me that muchâ?
âWhy would Iâ? That came like a bombshell.
âThen why do you want to see me if you don’t miss meâ?
âBecause I feel likeâ. He took a leaf from the tree branches and played with it.
âDon’t you have a familyâ?
âThey are all deadâ.
âOh. Sorryâ.
âYou don’t need to be. People will eventually die so it’s unenviableâ.
âBut you guys are immortal. They shouldn’t dieâ.
âImmortals only live for thousands of years. The ones with high cultivation live for millions of yearsâ.
âOh. You mean like the seven lordsâ.
âYeah. Like themâ.
âHow old are you exactlyâ?
âWhy don’t you guessâ?
âI can’t. You look so youngâ. I stared at him. âAre you also thousands years of ageâ?
âI’m older than you might imagineâ. He said.
âThen I’ll call you grandfatherâ.
âWhat? Hey I’m not that old. I haven’t even gotten married. Why would you call me thatâ?
âThousands of years is old enough to be my ancestorsâ.
âJust don’t call me that. I don’t like itâ.
âWhat do you like thenâ? I asked. âWhy don’t you tell me more about yourself? How you spend your childhood. Your friends, favorite food, sports. Including your love lifeâ.
âYou do talk a lotâ.
âI’m just curiousâ.
âThen you’re going to be disappointed. I’ve lived all my life alone because of the heavy responsibilities before meâ.
âSo you’ve no relationshÂĄp with anyoneâ?
âI did have one but it ended up badlyâ.
âWhy don’t you tell me more about herâ?
âAnd why should Iâ?
âBecause……. We’re friends. I’ve lived with you for three month so we’re friendsâ.
âI don’t want toâ.
âWhyâ?
âIt’s an unpleasant memories to remember. The past is in the pastâ. He said. âWhy don’t you focus on the competition ahead of you rather than my relationshÂĄp lifeâ.
âI just feel like talkingâ.
âLet me teach you some new moves thenâ. He got up.
âI still haven’t mastered the one you thought me perfectlyâ.
âThis is differentâ. He pulled me up but I stumbled on a stone. I almost ended up falling on the ground but he held me by my wa-ist. âAre you okayâ? Feiye asked.
âHuh….yesâ. I could feel myself blushing.
âGoodâ. He let go of my wa-ist and I fell.
âAwwwâ. I cried out. âWhy did you do thatâ?
âCause I feels likeâ. Cause he feels like? What a crazy guy. I thought he was being rom-ntic. Who knew he’s this crazy. I saw him smiled. He must enjoy bullying me a lot. I got up and dust my gown.
âYou….you jerkâ. I shouted at him. âYou’re going to pay for this. I’m out of hereâ.
âYou ain’t going to learn some new movesâ.
âKeep your stupid moves to yourselfâ. I walked away angrily.
âSee you tomorrowâ. He shouted after me.
