Chris POV
Mitchell got discharged from the hospital this evening as a result of her stubborn attitude. The doctor said she still needed rest but she wouldn’t hear of it. She said she wants to see the bastard that dared try to harm me.
I even tried talking her out of it but my efforts were futile so here we are, on our way home.
“Being in the hospital for just one day makes me sick already. You should have just taken me home and ask a doctor to come over” she whined
“We are on our way home already right? Once we leave the warehouse, we will head straight home so stop complaining and get enough rest while you can. I have no idea what you will do when we get to the warehouse” I said with an eyeroll
“What do you think I will do?” she asked grinning from ear to ear
“Don’t do anything Mitchell, please. You are just recovering and I’m still feeling guilty for that. If something else happens to you again, I won’t be able to forgive myself” I said
“Don’t worry about a thing and just chill again. See, I was shot just yesterday but I’m fine now. I’m as strong as a horse” she said proudly
“Yeah, whatever. How did you even do it? You took the bullet on your shoulder instead of any other vital body part. Did you learn anything about self defense?” I asked
“Yes, I did. I only learnt a little though because there was no need to learn much. My guards are always with me and if only I hadn’t asked them to stay back last night, none of us would have gotten hurt. It’s okay though. I got to spend a whole day with you thanks to that” she smiled
“Really? I’m completely short of words. You’re happy you got shot just because we spent a day together? I should tell your dad to talk some sense into you since you won’t even listen to me” I said and parked the car in the driveway
“So soon? Why did we have to arrive here so soon?” she asked pouting her l-ips
“If I remember clearly, you asked the doctor to discharge you quickly because you wanted to come here. Are you complaining now? Should I just take you back to the hospital?” I asked
“What?!! No! Why would you do that?” she snapped and hurriedly got down from the car
She went in,side swiftly and I followed after her quickly. Mr. Williams was with them when we arrived there so we greeted him first.
“Dad, is this the man that tried to killed Chris?” Mitchell asked staring at him
“Yes. He won’t say a word no matter how much is torture him” he said with a sigh
“That’s because you’re going easy on him. I know you have a soft heart so just go home and rest. Mitchell and I will handle the rest from here” I said
“I’m fine, I don’t need any rest” he said
“Listen to Chris please. Just go home and take a nap. You shouldn’t skip dinner either.” Mitchell said and took him outside
“Have you tried the method we used on the last guy?” I asked them
“No sir! Mr Williams said it’s too dangerous so we didn’t do it” one of them answered
“Good! If you use that method, he’s going to talk within a few minutes” I said and sat down
When they finished the first round of torture, he promised to confess just like I had imagined.
“Good! Now we’re talking. I’m only going to ask you a question once and if it takes more than a minute for you to respond, we will have to go for another round. Are you ready?” I asked with a smirk
“Yes sir, I’m ready to answer you sincerely” he said quickly
“Firstly, who sent you to kill me?” I asked
“It was Kathryn. Kathryn Eduardo” he said hurriedly
“K… Kathryn? Do you even know what you’re talking about? Kathryn is currently the top model, are you aware of that?” I asked
“Yes. I know it’s Kathryn because she’s very popular and I’ve seen her pictures countless times” he said
“Why did she ask you to kill me?” I asked next
“I don’t know. I really don’t know why she asked me to. I was only given a job and she paid me handsomely for it” he said
“Is this the first time you will be working for her?” I asked
“It’s the first time I will be working directly for her. Over the past years, I only worked for her Da…..” he couldn’t complete the rest of the sentence because he was shot twice in the heart
He died instantly on the s₱0t and my mouth were unable to close as a result of the huge shock.
I didn’t even remember that I came over with Mitchell until she came to hug me tightly. She must have been so scared. Some of the guards chased after the shooter while the rest stayed to protect Mitchell and I.
First, it was that old man who was about telling me significant things about my family and now, this man.
How many lives will be sacrificed because of me? I really don’t understand why someone doesn’t want me to find out who I am.
It’s making me more curious but at the same time, I think I’m scared of finding out the truth. If I happen to find out my real identity tomorrow, will I be able to handle it?
What if I’m the son of a murderer? What if my family has been involved in the dirtiest things? These thoughts are making me think twice about discovering my identity, but another part of me just wants to unravel the mystery no matter what.
Now that it has come to this, I will have to continue the investigation secretly. I won’t go to see the detective anymore. Instead, I’ll just talk to him on phone and we will be the only ones investigating.
“The killer escaped so we need to leave now, it’s not safe to say here” someone among the guards that chased the shooter said
I held Mitchell closely to myself and we both returned to our car.
“What should we do with the body sir?” they asked
“Give him a befitting burial” I said and closed my eyes
I wasn’t in a right state of mind so one of the guards drove us to the mansion.
“Mitchell, are you okay?” I asked after we got to our room
“I’m not okay, the scene won’t get out of my head no matter how hærd I try. What should I do?” she asked crying hærd
“It’s fine Mitchell. I’m here for you so you don’t need to worry about a thing” I assured and hugged her
“That aside, why did that man mention Kathryn’s name? Did she really ask him to kill you? For what reason?” she asked
“I don’t know too Mitchell, and we can’t be so sure that Kathryn sent him. We need to find out if he was really saying the truth or not before doing anything” I said
“No! Kathryn is the one behind everything. He clearly mentioned her name and I know he wasn’t lying. Why would he dare to lie against someone as influential as Kathryn?” she asked
“If he had said your Dad was the one that committed the crime, would you have believed it?” I asked with a sigh
“What?!! My dad? I know my dad would never do that and I would have slapped him immediately if he had said that”
“That’s what I’m talking about. He probably just mentioned Kathryn’s name because she’s influential so we need to investigate it first and then, the truth will come to light” I explained
“Okay then. I want to sleep now, I’m tired” she said and pulled the duvet over herself
Mitchell is right! I only said those things because I wanted her to calm down. The man said Kathryn is behind this attack and I believe him completely.
When I went to see her at home, she threatened me indirectly but I never room her serious. Firstly, she denied knowing me from childhood and now, she sent someone to kill me.
This can only mean that she’s hiding a secret. She doesn’t want the world to find out about something that has to do with me but what could that be?
I placed my palm on my forehead which was now getting hot as a result of excessive thinking. My phone choose that moment to ring and I almost ignored it at first.
When I checked the caller, it turned out to be the detective and I quickly left the room to take the call.
“Good evening sir” I greeted politely
“Evening Mr. Rodriguez. The Anna you asked us to trace doesn’t exist. She definitely existed to you but in reality, she doesn’t. Someone else disguised herself as Anna and wore a facial mask to change her appearance.
Do you have any idea on who it might be? We currently don’t have any lead right now so we’re stuck. If you could just hint us about anyone you suspect, we will carry on with the investigation” he explained
So Anna doesn’t exist? Someone disguised herself as Anna and tried to ruin my relationsh¡p with Mitchell? This is more complicated than I thought.
“The only suspect I have in mind is Kathryn but I’m 100% sure she’s not the one because the person’s figure is different from hers. But I also think whoever did it is definitely related to her” I said
“You mean Kathryn Eduardo?” he asked
“Yes, Kathryn Eduardo” I answered
“Alright then. We will continue with the investigation right away. Thanks for you time sir”
“You’re welcome” I said and ended the call
Things seem to be getting complicated with each passing day and it’s making me feel like giving up already.
Ronald’s POV
I heard Mitchell was shot just yesterday. They hid it from the public so no one knows about it.
How was someone able to shoot her so easily with the number of guards she has around her everytime? I don’t even know the details of the incident since they never mentioned it to the public.
Kevin said I shouldn’t try anything stupid because she’s from a very wealthy family. Now, someone out of nowhere shot her and I’m 100% sure it isn’t a Mafia group.
She has no connection with any mafia gang so they have no reason to attack her. If an ordinary person was able to shoot her so easily, then why would it be hærd for me, who is the boss of a very powerful mafia group?
I took out my phone and dialed Kevin’s contact. It’s time to tease him a little.
“Good evening Mr. Kevin Russell. I trust you’re having a nice day?” I asked with a smirk
“Can you just go straight to the point Ronald? I have no time for this rubbish you’re doing” he snapped
“Oh! You seem to be in a very bad mood. Does this mean you’ve found out what happened to your dear Mitchell Campbell?” I asked
“Shut the f**k up Ronald and don’t you dare call her name with that filthy mouth of yours” he said
“Okay. Since you don’t want me to mention her name, I won’t. I only called you to tell you something important.
The person that shot Mitchell isn’t even related to a Mafia group one bit. He successfully pulled it out alone which means I can do more than that as the boss of the second biggest mafia group.
It doesn’t matter if fifty guards follow her around everyday. I’m going to kidnap her and do what I want with her. Mark my words” I said and ended the call without giving him the chance to say anything
I’m going to kidnap Mitchell within two weeks. I’m only waiting for two weeks because something just happened.
I know her guards will be alerted fully for now and that’s why I decided to wait. Once two weeks is over, I will get what I’ve always wanted.
