I looked up to see his handsome face.

I gulped at what am about to say. “I love you too Enita.” I bit my l-ips hærd. So hærd.

Wow! Believe me or not, I don’t know where I got the courage to say those words in front of him.

Yeah, I find myself loving him back. I know he’s not gonna disappoint me in anyway.

I truly love him. With all my heart.

Enita’s pov

Eh! Tell me am hearing double. I grinned like a fool and stopped.

“Can you say that again?” I finally said.

She glanced up and repeated that same words.

“I love you too Enita” She looked away shyly.

I felt like flying but I can’t do that. Maybe a crazy dance will do.

I stepped back and start to dance, shaking my butt and spreading my hands out.

My heart was beating like a drum. ‘Tam bum bum tam’

“Can you stop that? It making me feel awkward. People are watching us” Mimi said , but I didn’t stop dancing.

I can’t remeber when last I danced like this.

“Mimi, you just made blessed my day, in fact, I don’t know what to say. Am vey happy right now. Come, momma will be so happy to hear about this” I laughed happily, dragging her close to the canteen.

“You told your mom about us?” She asked.

“Yeah, she won’t mind been her daughter in law. She will be so happy.” I squealed.

I got to my mom who was busy do in some chores while Brume was busy sweeping around the canteen.

I got to mom and called for her attention. She stood up and lighten up when she saw Mimi with me.

She gave me a wink which I returned with a smile.

“What’s it son? It like you have good news for me” She said.

“Maybe Aunt Mimi has finally agreed to marry him” Brume ch¡pped in.

“Tag! Shut up there! Who ask for your contribution? Just continue what you’re doing right now!” My mom commanded, he took a quick glance at me before he continue sweeping.

“So son, what is it? You look so happy today?” Said my mom.

“Mom, she said *I love you too Enita* to me” I whispered into mom’s ear and she gasps.

“Really? Oh my daughter! Come, come and hug your future mother in law” She squeaked like a baby as she pull Mimi into a hug.

I didn’t tell you my behaves like a baby. She’s a baby adult.🤣

I saw Mimi smiling as mom dragged her to another place to talk their mother and daughter stuff.

I sighed. Mom has carried Mimi away now.

Ahh! Today’s the happiest day of my life. I won’t stop thinking about today.

*I love you too Enita* Kept ringing in my ears.

My brother was done sweeping. He went ahead and keep the broom with the dustpan somewhere.

He cams outside and gave me a mischievous smile I don’t understand.

“This one that you’re smiling like you stole meat. Hope nothing?” I said taking the handkerchief in my hand to clean the table and chairs.

“Brother, you know what I mean now. Permission to go and see her?”

I quickly raised my head up and furrowed my brows.

“You said what? Go where? If you go anywhere, I will kill you. Even if you are in love, you don’t have to start running mad because if love. Stay, you will be going in the afternoon. Let’s help mom”

“I know you won’t allow me to go. If I don’t see her by the stream then am going to her house.” Brume answered with a lopsided smile.

“In fact you’re not going to see her today. I don’t know why you’re troubling this girl. It either you’re going in the afternoon or not. I don’t know when you’ve become a monitoring spirit.” I spat.

He scoffed and walk away. To the kitchen which was at the backyard.

Finally, the two, my mom and Mimi was done with their talking. I peeked my sugar on the cheek and she blushed.

Brume’s pov

I ran out of the canteen to Rose’s house. Cause she can’t be at the stream by now.

If you say, am monitoring her. Yes, I am.

I stood far away from the house. I was staying under a banana tree. She came out with her friend, Ruth. She bid her good bye and turned to leave.

I waved my hand so she can see me. She did look at me. And with a frown.

“What are you doing here Brume?” She fired.

“I came to see you. I see you’re alone” I replied, calmly.

“Am fine, you can go now.”

“Okay, just came to check on you. Bye” I cupped her cheeks on my palms.

I whispered. “Take care dear” And left.

I watch him as he walk away. I wanted to tell him how much have been loving him. But I just don’t know how to bring my self down to tell him.

“Enita! Enita! Why are you sleeping here? You won’t attend to the customers any more?” My mom half yelled.

I didn’t say anything, instead I stood up and began work back.

I heard my mom’s phone ringing and she went ahead to pick it.

“Yes?…ohh..Really? Wow that was pretty fast …Am telling Enita now. Okay, go bye.” My mom breathe out.

“What’s wrong mom? You sound happy” I was feeling concern.

“Nothing, your uncle’s wedding……has been fixed. His wedding is going to be next month. The traditional marriage will be done here.

Wow! Finally! My uncle is getting married. My favorite meal will be cooked that day.

I can’t wait. All the enemies should go and sit.

Where’s Suleiman? My one and only cheap tailor.

Enita’s pov

I can’t wait. All the enemies should go and sit.

Where’s Suleiman? My one and only cheap tailor.

He’s a Hausa man. And he’s a good fashion designer.

“What’s the colour code?” I asked.

“How will I know. Go and ask him, he’s at home.” Mom rolled his eyes and walk away.

Yayyyy! Wedding is coming.

I chuckled at my mom’s attitude as she attend to the customers.

Later in the day, Brume came back home with a worried look on his face. He’s been rejected again.

Who’s that girl that is making my brother Iike this?

At night, we ate dinner, chatted about many things especially my uncle’s wedding.

We just have one week to leave Warri now. Am gonna miss my people again.

Mimi and I, our relationsh¡p is growing deeper. We are now D.A.T.I.N.G.

I couldn’t believe I finally got to date her. The rude girl I know, the arrogant girl she is,…….Arrghh. Scratch that.

I got her and no one else, not even that Doctor Nelson. He should go and sleep.

“Aha! Enita? And Mimi? So is true, the two of you are dating. Ahh! Just call me on your wedding day huh? So that I can eat till my stomach burst” Onome cackled and held her bucket firmly.

“Onome, that’s okay. Let’s go. They dare not call us on their wedding day.” Isioma replied her.

“Hmm guys, don’t worry. Am gonna call you to our own wedding. We have somewhere to go now. Bye.” I dragged Mimi with me who was smiling throughout.

“Those girls are crazy. Really crazy.” Mimi turned to me.

That her smile could melt an ice cube.

“Yeah, they are. And too troublesome, just like me.” I replied, k-ssing her forehead.

Tuesday Afternoon….

I was walking on my own, taking my big textbook in my hand. I was actually going to my favorite place where I do read my books.

I got there and met someone sitting on the bench. I walked close and gasped.

Rose?!!! What’s she doing here?

I cleared my throat.

“Rose, are you here to see me?” I questioned taking my steps forward and sat beside her since thats the only bench here.

Our body were touching each other cause the bench wasn’t long enough for her to move away a little.

Or should I sit on the floor? Hell no! I can’t.

I watch her as she keeps batting her eyes and scratching it at the same time.

“Brume, I think something just entered my eye. Help me get it out!” She scre-med.

I quickly dropped my textbook and held her chin up to my face. My l-ips went closer to her face then her right eye and blew whatever she said it in,side her eye.

I blew and blew till her eyes were watering.

“Is it gone now?” I inquired.

“Yeah, thanks brume.” She said and I nodded like a lizard.

I turned to my text book and opened it. Flipping through many pages and also stealing a glance at Rose.

She was nodding off to sleep in that sitted position. Looking at the sleeping beauty, taking my time to study her face.

Pretty when sleeping and her l-ips were slightly open.

The wind blew and her hair fell on gently on her face. I removed the strands of hair from her face.

Finally, I made her rest on my shoulder and continued with my reading.

🥀Rose’s pov🥀

I was smiling within me. He’s so caring. I opened my eye a little and saw he was reading a text book.

I intentionally sneezed and closed my eyes back.

He touched my hair and dropped it back.

Soon, he was through and was about to touch me that I raised my head up.

“Am sorry, I slept on your shoulder” I apologized, which was fake.

Brume’s pov

We held our hands as we walk home. We were talking normally. She got to her house and I gave her a big k-ss on her forehead before leaving.

It uncle’s wedding very soon, I can’t wait for my brother’s own too. Am sure , this wedding is gonna be one of the best.

Only God knows if my brother won’t scatter the wedding cause of his troubles and clumsiness.

I gulped when I got home. I entered to drop my textbook and go to the canteen.

I got to Suleiman’s shop who was busy singing in his language.

“Good morning🎀” I greeted.

“Ehhh! See who we have here. How are you? You brought something fire.”

“No I didn’t but soon.” I answered.

“Okay, so what do you want?”

“I just wanted to tell you that you should be ready, am bringing a cloth here to my uncle’s wedding. And I came to by with you. The house is boring” He nodded.

Two days later…..

It was just afternoon when I decided to go to the river to play. I wore my slippers and walk down the road.

The community has a stream and a big river.

I got to the river, seeing only some set of ladies. Let just say they are my rivals.

I dislike them. I don’t even know the other two names but I know one and that’s Faith.

“Here! The witch is around. Educated witch” One of them said and I scoff.

“Well thanks, at least am not an illiterate like you. You can’t even spell your name” I shot her a stare.

“So you talk back at us? We are not your mate. Get that.” Another said.

“You guys may be older than me but am still far better than you. No school, even her English, not fluent enough.

You are older than me, then? Just stop and let me do what I came here for please.”I fired and proceed to the river.

I got to the bank and sat down on the floor taking some pebbles and threw it into the river.

“You don’t want to think about what we can do?” Someone whispered into my ears and I turned.

Those witches! I thought they’ve gone.

“What can you do? Don’t try anything stupid.” I warned and faced the stream back.

I felt two people Pulling me up and in a minutes, I was thrown into the river.

I was gasping. I can’t swim. I could hear the giggles from those three witches.

I didn’t hear from them anymore, they must have gone. I was still struggling. I know I can’t die.

Suddenly, someone came to join me. A male but i can’t see his face clearly cause of tge water.

I could hear my name been called. The person grabbed me to himself and go out of the river.

I opened my eyes finally and was shocked. Brume!!!

“Are you okay now? Rose?” He asked but all I did was hug him tightly.

“You saved me. Should I just say this and let it go?” I said still hugging him.

“What’s it Rose?”

“I love you Brume. So much. Am just keeping my feelings away from you. All this while have love you. Everything about having someone I like is all lies. I Just don’t know how to…….” He cut me off.

“Thats okay, am happy you love me back. Rose, I will never disappoint you. You’re my life and I will always protect you. I love you Rose”  He beamed with a smile on his l-ips.

“I love you too” I sniffed, a tear dropping out.
