CHAPTER FIFTY-EIGHT : BACK INTO HIS ARMS

In that tense moment, fear pulsed through my veins as I sprinted through the dense forest. The distant thud of horse feets reverberated in my ears, and I prayed to stumble upon a crowd that could provide safety. My heart pounded like a relentless drum, but my wish for refuge was my last retort.

Suddenly, there were two sets of footsteps drawing closer from behind me. Panic surged within me as I realized that I was being pursued, and instinctively, I turned to the left, attempting to escape the approaching danger.

Could it be lady Margaret or Alexander? My mind poundered.

It was then that a strong grip seized my arm, causing me to halt. My eyes widened with a mixture of fear and confusion. How had this person managed to catch up to me so quickly? I was on the brink of demanding answers when I heard his voice, soft but urgent.

“Keep quiet,” Reon whispered as he pulled me behind the cover of a tree. The thundering sound of galloping horses grew louder, and through the gaps in the branches, I saw Muchen pass by, oblivious to my presence.

My heart ached to call out to him, to let him know I was here, but Reon’s hand covered my mouth, preventing any sound from escaping.

No matter how hard I struggle he didn’t bulge, I can never tell what’s in this man head, I knew for a fact that he wasn’t trust worthy.

We watched in silence as Muchen’s retreating figure disappeared into the distance. Reon’s grip on me remained firm, and I could feel the intensity of his gaze as he kept a vigilant watch on the surroundings.

Time seemed to stretch out in that forest, and in the hushed tension, I wondered about the complexities of the situation. What had brought Reon here, and why had he hid me from Muchen’s path? The answers remained shrouded in uncertainty, and for now, all I could do was find a way to get out of Reon hands.

The forest, covered in shadows and whispered secrets, seemed to close in around us. Leaves rustled, and the cool breeze carried with it the earthy scent of moss and sand

My breaths came in heavy gasps, my heart still pounding with the adrenaline of my escape.

Reon’s hand, though covering my mouth, was gentle, and his deep brown eyes held a mixture of worry and determination. It was a gaze I couldn’t decipher, one that hinted at untold stories and concealed motives.

Motives that obviously doesn’t mean good to me, I looked at him with anger and hatred in my eyes.

As the silence enveloped us, a thousand questions swirled in my mind. What was Reon’s connection to this place? Why had he intervened at this moment, shielding me from Muchen? The forest had always been a place of mystery and magic, but now, it seemed to hold secrets far more profound than I could have imagined.

The echoes of horse hooves gradually faded into the distance, and the forest returned to its usual calmness. Reon finally released his grip on me, allowing me to speak. “What’s going on?” I asked, the words muffled at first, as if my voice had been stolen by the forest itself.

He studied me with a measured intensity, the silence between us stretching into something deeper. “It’s not safe here,” he finally replied. “You need to stay hidden.”

” Hidden from who? Muchen? My husband!!!” I yell

” That was not your husband”

” What nonsense do you speak of?”

His words only deepened my confusion. Stay hidden from what? From muchen? It was clear that there were complexities at play beyond my understanding, and I was caught in a web of intrigue that seemed to have no end.

Reon stepped back, his eyes never leaving mine. “I can’t explain everything now, but you need to trust me. This forest conceals more than you can fathom.”his words were far different than his actions.Reon’s grip on my arm was strong, not willing to let go.

He pulled me back with an implacable determination. As I stumbled along, I continued to protest, “Please, let me go. I have to find Muchen. I can’t stay here.”

Reon’s voice was stern as he replied, “I told you, it’s not safe. Lady Margaret is in pursuit of you, and I can’t let you fall into her hands. You need to trust me.”how did he know about lady Margaret? That only made me more suspicious of him.

First he didn’t let me go to Muchen, stating an obvious lie and now he brings up lady Margaret.

I was exhausted, both physically and emotionally. Fear and confusion swirled within me, but I couldn’t fight against Reon’s unwavering strength. I had no choice but to follow him back to the house I had fled moments ago.

The journey back felt like a cruel twist of fate. The path we had taken now seemed longer and more daunting, a stark contrast to the hope and anticipation I had felt earlier. My footsteps were heavy, mirroring the weight of my heart, as we retraced our steps.

As we finally approached the house, a sense of dread washed over me. It was as if I were returning to a place of imprisonment. I couldn’t shake the feeling that my freedom was slipping further away with each step.

Reon pushed the door open, and I reluctantly entered the dimly lit dwelling. The room felt unfamiliar, like a prison I had willingly walked into.

I couldn’t hold back my tears any longer. My voice trembled as I pleaded, “Please, just tell me who you are and why you’re doing this to me.”

Reon’s eyes reflected sympathy as he spoke, “Jing, I wish I could tell you everything right now, but it’s not safe. You are not the person you once were, and everything has changed. For now, you must stay here, and I promise you’ll understand soon.”

My frustration and fear had reached a breaking point. I collapsed into a nearby chair, tears streaming down my face. I couldn’t comprehend what Reon was saying, and I was tormented by the uncertainty of my situation.

As Reon remained nearby, a solemn silence enveloped us both, leaving me with countless questions and a growing sense of unease. I was trapped in a situation I couldn’t control, with no choice but to await an explanation that seemed to be perpetually out of reach.

Muchen frown, the journey to the forest had been a peculiar one. It was as though I had stepped into a different realm, a place far removed from the palace. The thick forest loomed around me, the towering trees casting long shadows on the ground. The air felt heavy with secrets, and there was an otherworldly scent that hung in the atmosphere, a blend of earth, moss, and the hint of something ancient.

The forest seemed to encroach upon me with its odd presence, and each step I took felt like a passage through time itself. It was as if the very air held echoes of the past, whispers of stories long forgotten. The sense of urgency that had driven me from the palace now clashed with the quiet stillness of the woods.

The path before me seemed both familiar and foreign. I could hardly believe that this place was the setting for the answers I had been seeking, that the isolation and solitude would lead me to the truth. It was a stark reminder of how quickly life could shift from familiarity to the unknown.

As I ventured deeper into the forest, my surroundings grew darker and the sounds of wildlife more pronounced. Birds sang their haunting melodies from the branches above, and I couldn’t help but feel like an intruder in their ancient domain. The path itself was uneven, covered with a carpet of leaves that muffled my footsteps. My heart quickened with each moment, anticipation and dread warring within me.

The journey had been long, and each step had taken me further away from the palace and closer to the unknown. I had been driven by the mysterious note and the promise of finding Queen Jing. But now, as I stood before this isolated dwelling, a sense of déjà vu washed over me.

My heart pounded as I stepped across the threshold into Reon’s dimly lit house. His presence was unexpected, and the memories of our ancient friendship flooded back to me. I couldn’t help but feel a sense of surprise, curiosity and doubt

If I remember correctly, he will never betray his sister to help me, is he really aware of Jing whereabouts or he wants to delay me for Margaret to succeed in killing her.

“Reon,” I began, my voice tinged with both disbelief and relief. “Is it really you?” My eyes roved over his features, searching for any sign of the friend I had known centuries ago.

Reon’s expression held a mix of recognition and something deeper. “Muchen,” he said, his voice carrying a sense of understanding. “I’ve waited a long time for this day.”I don’t understand what his last sentence meant but I had more pressing issues.

I didn’t waste any time on pleasantries either. My heart ached with worry for Jing, and I needed answers. “Reon, tell me,” I pressed, my voice unwavering. “Is what you wrote in that note true? Do you know of Jing whereabouts?”

Reon nodded solemnly, his eyes reflecting both the weight of time and the urgency of of my need. He led me further into the house, and as we stepped into a dimly lit room, my heart lurched at the sight that greeted me.

Jing lay on a simple bed, her form looking fragile and pale in the dim light. It was as if all the color had been drained from her, leaving behind only a ghostly shell. My breath caught in my throat, and I couldn’t help but curse myself for not protecting her, for letting this happen.

Kneeling down beside her, I felt an overwhelming mix of emotions. Relief surged through me like a tidal wave, knowing that we had found her, but it was overshadowed by guilt and anger at myself for allowing her to end up in this state.

I reached out and touched her cool, delicate cheek, my fingertips trembling. A single tear welled up in my eye and cascaded down my cheek to land on her face. Her eyelashes fluttered, and I watched as her beautiful eyes slowly opened, confusion clouding her gaze.

“Muchen?” she whispered, her voice barely a murmur. Her eyes widened as she took in the sight of me, and a fragile smile touched her lips. “Is it really you?”

A wave of emotions washed over me as I met her gaze. My voice was filled with regret as I whispered, “Jing, I’m so sorry for all of this. I promise, I’ll make things right.”more tears drop from my eyes ” I love you so much Jing, I caused this, if only I didn’t listen to you and….. ” she cut me off, fingers placed on my lips

” Am okay Muchen” she smile ” I promise”

Looking at her, I knew I regret things but Reon involvement in this doesn’t sit right, Reon is Margaret brother after all.
