CHAPTER SIXTY ONE : THE ESCAPE 3 ( STRANGE ISLAND 2)

Relief washed over me as I gently cupped Jing’s face in my hands. Her skin was warmer, her color healthier, and I couldn’t help but feel a profound sense of relief. She was safe, and that was all that mattered. I didn’t want to reveal the true extent of my exhaustion or the hunger gnawing at my insides. I had to protect her from that reality for as long as possible.

“You look better,” I said with a warm smile, my voice filled with genuine concern. “I’m glad you’re feeling well, Jing.”

She met my eyes, her gratitude evident. “Thank you, Muchen. I couldn’t have made it without you.” She smile ” but are you sure you’re okay now?”

I nodded, my gaze never leaving her face. “We should head back to the room soon. It’s getting late, and you need your rest.”

She nodded in agreement and started to leave the kitchen. I watched her go, grateful that she was safe, even if only for a moment. But as soon as the door closed behind her, my smile faded.

I knew that I couldn’t avoid my needs any longer. My hunger was growing unbearable, and it was only a matter of time before I lost control. I couldn’t afford that to happen in the village, not after the kindness they had shown us.

Reluctantly, I leaned against the kitchen counter, my fangs elongating, and my eyes turning a deep, crimson red. The temptation was overwhelming, but I knew I had to maintain control. I couldn’t take blood from Jing unless it was absolutely necessary. I’d find another way.

Taking it from her will mean killing her.

With great effort, I managed to reign in my instincts. I couldn’t allow my thirst to endanger the village or put Jing at risk. The door remained closed, and I could hear the sounds of the village outside. I needed to find another solution, one that would keep everyone safe.

I knew that the struggle was far from over, and as I contemplated the night ahead, I couldn’t help but wonder how much longer I could keep my true nature hidden.

My struggle to control my vampiric instincts was becoming unbearable. The thirst for blood was overwhelming, my breathing erratic, and my vision was tainted with red. I clenched my fists, trying to regain control. Taking blood from Jing was not an option. It would endanger her life and shatter any trust she had in me.

I had to repeat that in my head over and over again.

As the room around me seemed to close in, I heard Jing’s voice. It was like a lifeline in the chaos of my mind. I knew I had to maintain composure for her sake. With every ounce of strength, I fought to regain control over my vampire urges. My fangs slowly retracted, and the redness in my eyes began to fade.

“Muchen?” Jing’s voice penetrated my inner turmoil. It was the reminder I needed to pull myself together. Slowly, I stepped out of the kitchen, concealing the inner battle I’d just waged.

I entered the living room, where everyone was seated, but my focus remained on my inner demons. I saw only the blood that called to me. In a quiet moment, I mumbled, “Excuse me,” and retreated back to the room where I had woken up. Alone with my thoughts, I shut the door and moved to the window.

I tried to steady my breathing, to calm my racing heart, and regain control. Outside, I could hear the voices, completely unaware of the internal struggle that raged within me. I knew I had to find a way to feed without harming anyone. I couldn’t let my true nature endanger those who had shown us kindness.

But how do I go about this? The blood of animal will only give me a day of survival, the taste is also bad….but if I can get only ten people and take their blood, I should be fine.

Just as I was trying to find a solution, a voice startled me. “Who are you?” It came from the girl sitting in the chair. I had been so focused on my internal turmoil that I hadn’t noticed her presence. She was dressed provocatively, her eyes unnaturally dark.

I frowned, unsure of what to say or how to react to her unexpected presence.

I looked at the girl who had suddenly become an unwelcome presence in my situation. She was the same girl I’d found sitting in the room earlier. Her response to my question was puzzling.

“Who are you? Why are you not out there?” I asked, struggling to hide my growing discomfort.

“Because I’m dead,” she replied, a strange smile on her face. Her words were unsettling, and I couldn’t quite grasp her meaning.

“That was a joke,” she continued, chuckling to herself. But the unease in me only deepened. It was like she didn’t belong here.

My eyes drifted to her neck, and I felt my fangs elongate slightly. The thirst was still there, clawing at my insides.

“Call my wife for me,” I requested, ignoring her strange behavior.

“Why would I do that?” She responded with a hint of jealousy in her voice. “You need to leave her. I’m your mate.”just as I thought, people in this village are strange, she is strange, I haven’t seen someone where all her eyes are dark….no white line in them.

I raised an eyebrow, her words sounding like another layer of obsession. The situation had just taken an even more perplexing turn, and I couldn’t help but wonder how we had ended up in this strange place with an unknown girl making such bizarre claims.

I stared at the girl in disbelief, unable to wrap my head around what she was saying. She was claiming to be my mate, and her persistence was unsettling. I knew that our kind could have mates, but the notion that I had one other than Queen Jing was preposterous.

“I don’t know who you are, but you are not my mate,” I responded firmly, shaking my head, why did I even waste my time in responding?

The girl’s dark eyes held a mixture of longing and desperation, and it was making me uneasy.

“You don’t understand,” she pleaded, moving closer to me. “We are connected, bonded. It’s destiny.”

I stepped back, keeping a safe distance from her. “I am married, and my loyalty is to my wife. I don’t know what you’re talking about, but I suggest you leave this place. My gaze lower to her chest, I could clearly see her nipple, I don’t understand this scent coming from her….for some odd reason, it’s calm and attractive….just like a succubus. A demon that seduce men for their life force” You’re insane”

She looked hurt and frustrated, but I couldn’t afford to entertain this any longer. I needed to find Queen Jing, and this strange encounter wasn’t helping.

Opening the door, I stepped out, only to be met with a wave of tension from the people waiting in the living room. Jing’s worried eyes met mine, and I could tell she had been concerned about the delay. But this bizarre situation had to be addressed later; right now, my priority was getting her to safety and out of this unusual place.

Jing watched as Muchen’s face turned paler, his eyes reddening, and tension emanating from him. His grip on my hand was firm, almost painful, as if he was trying to fight some internal battle.

“Muchen, are you okay?” I asked, worry and fear filling my voice. His response was abrupt and filled with urgency. “We have to leave.”

Chen held onto my other hand, bringing me to a halt. Concern painted across his face as he looked back and forth between Muchen and me. His eyes locked with mine, and he spoke hesitantly, “Are you sure you’re safe with him?”

I understood Chen’s concern. But I also knew that Muchen’s anger was tied to his need for blood. It was a struggle he faced, one he had never hidden from me.

With a gentle yet firm nod, I assured Chen, “I am safe with him. He is my husband “Muchen’s crimson red eyes never left me. He understood the risk his current state posed, and he was trying his best to keep that dark side under control.

I pulled my hand back from Chen, but as I did, he peered into my eyes, worry etched across his face. He knew something was amiss. I had reassured him that Muchen wouldn’t hurt me, but it was clear he didn’t fully believe me. Chen quickly positioned himself in front of me, guarding me like a shield.

And am here wondering how someone can be so stupid, it’s quite obvious that Muchen is my husband, he will not hurt me.

But Muchen was rapidly losing control. His eyes were fully crimson now, and his hands were starting to change. He struggled to contain the overwhelming need for blood. He mumbled, his voice strained, “Chen, let go of her.”

Chen’s parents rushed to our side, their alarmed voices adding to the chaos. ” We should take her somewhere safe, this man might kill her ”

Their fear intensified the situation, and they forcefully took me away from him.

I growled in frustration and anger. “Let go of me! My husband won’t hurt me!” I pleaded, but my words fell on deaf ears. They had decided that Muchen posed a threat and was beyond help. With every second, Muchen’s transformation accelerated. His fingers started to elongate, and his predatory instincts grew stronger.

They stopped dragging me the moment we were close to the door, struggling out of their hold, I look at Muchen, thinking of a way to stop him.

Chen turned to his sister li-mia, his voice filled with desperation. “Li-mia go and find the exorcist.”

Before li-mia could pass Muchen, his eyes turned completely wild. He reached out, grabbing her by the neck with a grip that seemed capable of crushing her. His fingers threatened to pierce her skin as he rasped, “Give my wife back to me!”

The room fell into chaos, and my heart raced with fear for Muchen, it was then it hit me, the fact that everyone could die here, right now… didn’t matter to me, all I want is Muchen to be safe, I mean he is worried about me, he doesn’t want me far away from him.

I do know these people helped us and I know Muchen must hate that the moment he woke up, his thirst of blood has intensifies but it isn’t his fault….. nothing is his fault ” Muchen please calm down, am safe ” our gaze meet but he still look worried

I tried moving close to him but Chen held my hand, stopping me ” you shouldn’t be close to him, he might….” That must have been the last chance they had, li-mia head fell down from her body, it all happened so fast that I myself couldn’t believe it.

Muchen finally lost it.
