CHAPTER SIXTY : THE ESCAPE 2 ( STRANGE ISLAND)

The fall felt eternal, the rush of air against my face and the echo of the strangers’ voices fading into the distance. But the impact of the water below came all too soon. We plunged into the dark, icy water.

I clenched my teeth, holding onto Jing as tightly as I could but I couldn’t and as i struggled to stay afloat. Panic welled up within me as I desperately searched for a way out. The forest we’d left behind had taken on a whole new dimension of danger. Now we were adrift in a vast, unforgiving ocean.

As I frantically searched the turbulent water, my heart sank. Jing was nowhere to be found. She didn’t know how to swim. I dived beneath the surface, my eyes scanning the murky depths. And that’s when I saw her, floating lifeless in the cold, dark water.

Without hesitation, I reached out, grabbed her, and pulled her to the surface. I could feel the strength of the current, the waves threatening to pull us under. I held Jing close, treading water and scanning for any sign of land or safety.

In the distance, I spotted a tiny, distant island. It was our only hope, but it seemed impossibly far away. I knew we had to make it there if we were going to survive.

Summoning every ounce of strength and willpower, I began to swim, my arms aching, my heart pounding. The island seemed to grow no closer, but I refused to give up. Jing’s life depended on it.

After what felt like an eternity, I finally reached the shore of the small, desolate island. Gasping for breath and shivering from the cold, I laid Jing down on the sand. She was unconscious, but at least she was breathing. I slapped her cheeks gently to wake her.

“Jing, wake up,” I pleaded, my voice hoarse. She sputtered and coughed, water pouring from her mouth as she began to regain consciousness.

She blinked up at me, disoriented and frightened. I wrapped my arms around her, providing whatever comfort and warmth I could. We had survived the fall from the cliff, but we were far from safe. Our ordeal was far from over.

With each stroke through the treacherous waters, I could feel my strength waning. The ordeal we had just faced had left me weakened, and the loss of blood only extended the struggle. The relentless waves battered against me, threatening to pull me under.

I pushed through the exhaustion, my mind focused on reaching the safety of the land. With each step I took, the shore seemed to draw nearer. The island, though small and desolate, had become our lifeline, and I was determined to reach it.

But as I finally stumbled onto the sandy shore, my body gave in to the overwhelming fatigue. The world around me blurred, and I struggled to remain conscious. My gaze fell upon Jing, who had followed me to the land. She rushed to my side, concern etched across her features.

“Are you okay?” Jing’s voice was filled with worry as she reached out and touched my face.

I tried to respond, but I could barely see anything. The darkness closed in on the edges of my vision. My body screamed for rest, and my eyelids grew heavy. “I just need to rest, Jing,” I managed to murmur. “Go and look for help. I’ll be waiting.”

With those words, my strength gave way, and the darkness claimed me once more. I collapsed onto the sandy beach, my eyes closing as I drifted into a deep, much-needed sleep. The future remained uncertain, but for now, I could only hope that help would come before it was too late.

Fear gripped my heart as I watched Muchen lose consciousness on the desolate beach. I knew the perilous journey we had undertaken had taken a toll on him, and the sight of him lying there, unmoving, filled me with dread. I tried to wake him, calling his name with urgency, but he wouldn’t budge. For a horrifying moment, it appeared as though he might have succumbed to the unforgiving forces of the ocean.

Tears welled up in my eyes, but I couldn’t afford to break down. I had to find help. Leaving Muchen behind was a painful decision, but my fear of Margaret and the urgency of the situation compelled me to act. I knew that I was too weak to lift him, so I did the only thing I could think of. I found a large leaf from a nearby tree and covered him with it, shielding him as best I could from the elements.

With Muchen protected, I summoned all the strength I had left and forced myself to stand. My legs quivered beneath me as I began to stagger away from the shore. My gaze scanned the surroundings, and I noticed a small village in the distance. It was my only hope. Summoning the last vestiges of my energy, I propelled myself forward.

Reaching the village felt like an eternity, but I finally made it. My knocks on the nearest door were filled with desperation. When the door opened, a young man peered at me, his eyes widening at the sight of a stranger on his doorstep.

“Help me,” I managed to mumble, my voice weak. I could barely stand, and my legs were giving out. The urgency of the situation was etched across my face as I implored the young man to assist me in saving Muchen.

The young man’s eyes widened in alarm as he took in my weaken appearance and the urgency in my voice. Without wasting a second, he called for his family, who quickly came to my aid. They helped me to a chair and offered me water as I tried to catch my breath. My words spilled out in a rush as I explained the dire situation – how my husband is unconscious close to the ocean.

The family listened intently and didn’t waste any time. They rallied their neighbors, and within minutes, a group of villagers had assembled, ready to assist me in rescuing Muchen. I led them back to the beach, my heart heavy with fear for Muchen’s life.

The young man who had initially helped me introduced himself as Chen and took charge of organizing the rescue operation. He instructed some villagers to gather supplies, while others prepared a makeshift stretcher to carry Muchen. They all moved with remarkable efficiency, driven by a shared determination to help a stranger in need.

Together, we reached the spot where I had left Muchen. The relief that washed over me when I saw him still covered in the leaf calmed my racing heart. The villagers worked together to gently lift him onto the stretcher. Despite his unconscious state, Muchen looked serene as if the beach and the turbulent waves had not troubled him.

With Muchen secured on the stretcher, we began our journey back to the village. Every step was taken with great care, knowing that his life depended on our haste. The villagers showed incredible compassion, silently determined to save a man they knew nothing about.

As we reached the village, Muchen was placed in a small, humble house, and the villagers did their best to provide medical care, though their resources were limited. Throughout the night, I stayed by Muchen’s side, watching over him as the villagers took turns caring for him.

I couldn’t help but feel grateful for the kindness of these strangers who had come to our rescue. As I sat there in the dimly lit room, my thoughts were filled with hope – hope for Muchen’s recovery but I myself also need rest

Getting up, I almost fell before Chen move closer and grab me ” are you okay?” I look at him and shake my head, I also need rest, that….I wanted saying that but I lose consciousness, what I need is sleep.

Muchen felt groggy as he awoke in the unfamiliar room. My eyes darted around, taking in the strange decorations and furnishings. Panic set in as I tried to remember how I had ended up here. Memories of the ocean flooded back, and I shot upright in bed, a cold sweat forming on my brow.

I stood up and stare at the strange girl that is seated next to my bed, she has dark eyes but blue hair ” you’re awake ” her eyes lit up ” I have been waiting ”

” Who?”

” You must be looking for your wife ” she ignored my question ” she is in the living room with my brother ” I nod at her words but the way she looks at me, I could tell she is just human but they is something in that stare.

A crush?

Without hesitation, I rushed out of the room, driven by an urgent need to find Jing. My heart was in my throat as I followed the sounds of laughter and conversation to a larger, common area. And there she was – Jing, standing with a stranger, her laughter ringing through the room.

My fists clenched at my sides as I watched her. She looked different, more relaxed than I had ever seen her. Her hair cascaded down her back, and her eyes shone with genuine happiness as she spoke with the stranger. They seemed at ease in each other’s company, and it stung me deeply.

I had been unconscious, and during that time, Jing had found solace and companionship in this stranger? The pang of jealousy coursed through me, and I couldn’t help but resent the fact that she could move on so easily.

Trying to conceal my anger and jealousy, I cleared my throat and approached them. “Jing,” I said, my voice heavy with a mixture of emotions. She turned to look at me, her eyes widening in surprise.

“Muchen,” she gasped, her expression a blend of shock and relief. “You’re awake!”

The stranger, who had been engaged in a conversation with Jing, now shifted his attention to me. “You must be Muchen,” he said with a friendly smile, extending his hand. “I’m chen. We found you both on the beach.”

I regarded him warily before accepting his hand with a firm shake. “Thank you for helping us,” I replied, my gratitude genuine.

Jing moved closer to me, her concern evident. “Muchen, how are you feeling?” she asked. “You were unconscious for days. We were worried.”

“I’m fine,” I said, trying to sound more composed than I felt. “What happened? How did we end up here?”

Jing briefly explained the sequence of events – our arrival at the village, the villagers’ assistance in rescuing us, and my unconscious state due to exhaustion. I listened carefully but couldn’t shake the unease that had settled within me.

As the conversation continued, I couldn’t help but notice that Jing and Chen seemed to have developed a rapport during my absence. They shared stories and laughter, and although I should have been relieved that she had found a friend, I couldn’t help but feel like an outsider in the moment.

I knew I had to overcome my jealousy and focus on the more pressing matters at hand, but as I watched Jing with Chen I couldn’t help but wonder about the feelings that had developed in my absence. ” Come here ” grabbing her hands I pull her into the kitchen and shut the door, she give me a confused look

” What’s wrong ”

” Can you stop laughing freely with another man!” I growl ” do you even see the way he looks at you”

” Muchen ” Jing give me a weird look, she seem happy for some reason ” are you jealous?”

” Indeed ” I responded, not seeing the need to hide it, holding her hand I pull her closer to my body, hugging her ” am glad you’re okay, you scared me ” looking at her face I smile ” I thought I lost you ”
