“Waaah! Ile yote ni ya mtu mmoja?” I heard one of the ladies ask; she was my neighbour on the right side.
“Nini kinaendelea hapa? Mbona anableed?” I heard another neighbour ask.
I was not ready to answer the millions of questions about to start pouring from my neighbours so I decided to untie myself from the crowd.
“Mwikali tell us what happened.” I said calmly staring at Mwikali.
“This guy came looking for you and found me half dressed. When I told him that you had left and I did not know where you had gone, he decided to force himself into me so I bit his genitals.” Mwikali said a bit shy.
“Rapist! Achomwe!” I then heard a guy in the crowd shout after Mwikali narrated what had happened.
I knew what that meant; Lawrence just froze and began shaking like a chameleon on a frail twig. As much as I felt angry with him, I did not want to carry his blood on my hands. I quickly stood in front of Lawrence hiding him from the crowd and said;
“She is my girlfriend, he is my neighbour, I will sort this by the law. Thank you guys for coming but kindly I will need you all to leave us now.”
They were reluctant to leave but it was my house, they had no choice but to start moving out one by one. Lawrence was in a trauma, he had seen death coming and still his manh-od was bleeding. After everyone had left, I locked the door since I knew they were going to hang around my house to see what I was up to.
“What do you wanna do with him?” I asked Mwikali pointing at Lawrence.
She stared at him for a while then turned to me and said;
“I think he has already learnt his lesson dear.”
“Should we let him got just like that?” I asked.
“He has a permanent mark to remind him the importance of respecting women.” She replied.
“Okay, but I have to teach him a lesson as well.” I said.
I saw Lawrence stare at me with sympathetic eyes but he could not say anything due to trauma. I took his clothes and lit them as he watched then threw them outside on the corridor and closed the door again. When I opened the door to through the burning clothes out, I could hear footsteps as people ran off; they were eavesdropping on my door. +
“You have thirty seconds to get the hell out of here.” I said to Lawrence then took a knife.
The speed at which he got up from the bed was what amused me. He quickly unlocked the door and ran out unclad. I could hear people outside cheering and when I peeped out, I saw everyone with their phone taking pictures of him nude. I then turned to Mwikali and politely said;
“You should stop giving me uninvited visits Mwikali. You have a fiance who is really a nice guy, you should be nice to him.”
“Ham, yes I have Teyie I don’t deny but I just missed your rom-nce. I am a lady dear and I got feelings. He is ever busy at work and he rarely satisfies my conjugal rights.” She replied with her innocent pleading eyes.
Mwikali was damn good in bed and chasing her away was quite a hærd thing to do. She used to take me to a world that no any other lady used to but I did not want to risk being caught with her by either Mwaura or his brother Teyie.
“We can continue being friends with benefit but we have to be careful now dear, Edwin is a good friend of mine and he can catch us in the act. I think we both know what that means!” I said after a moment of silence.
“How about we be meeting in a hotel room? I will be catering for the bills.” She replied.
“That sounds better but still we have to be careful.” I said.
Mwikali then bided me goodbye and left. Immediately she left, I locked the house and left as well; I decided to move out and not inform anybody. I went to look for a new house and after getting one that I desired, I came back to pack my staffs. When I got back to the apartment, Lawrence’s house was vacant; he had already moved out.
The following day I too moved out and shifted to my new house which I kept a secret. Days went by and I finally reported to my new job. I was working as an editor under Mwikali’s office.
While at work, Mwikali would act like someone who did not even know me. Since my new house was not far from the workplace, I used to go to work commuting from my house; Mwikali had offered me company’s accommodation but instead I asked for a housing allowance and opted to stay outside the premises.
One morning, I woke up late and I was late for work; there were no buses to work so I had to take a taxi. When I got to the reception desk, I met a lady dressed in a black skirt and a white blouse.
“Good morning sir, she is here to see you.” The receptionist said pointing at the lady.
I looked at the her closely and she looked familiar but I could not tell where I had seen her.
“Hi, do I know you?” I asked curious.
She had not replied to my question when I saw Mwikali walk out of her office, she looked unhappy.
She walked towards where we were standing greeted us and passed; I thought she was angry at me because I came to work late. +
“Good morning sir, my name is Silvia Edward, we met in a school party last year.” The lady in black and white said after Mwikali had passed.
“Yes, I was seeing that your face looks familiar but I could not recall where I saw you. So, how can I help you Silvia?” I asked admiring her cute dimples.
“I was appointed to be your secretary sir.” She replied…
