The Mustard Seed Faith (episode 5)

God works in mysterious ways and that’s why we never get familiar or used to his ways of getting things done. Most times, God allows unfavorable circ-mstance befall us so as to make us stronger, wiser or more humble to carry out a bigger mandate that we initially wouldn’t have been able to handle if we didn’t go through those crisis. In Faith’s case, it’s quite difficult to figure out why God allowed her ‘once perfect and beautiful life’ go in such direction; up until the extent of contacting a deadly virus such as HIV. She lived a decent and godly life, abstained from sinful activities just to please God and obey his bidding and commandment, only for such fate to be her reality.
To be honest, it wasn’t fair that Faith had to go through something unfortunate as this because she truly didn’t deserve it. However, all fingers crossed as we read on to find our if God had any motive for allowing such fate befall her or not.
Immediately Faith saw David in front if her door, she almost collapsed because he was the last person she ever imagined to show up at her office after over a week of going ‘MIA’ (missing in action). Deep down, she was happy to see him again but pretended otherwise. “Why didn’t you at least call before coming? What if I was in a board meeting and not available?” She inquired and focused her attention back to the laptop in front of her. David could clearly see that she missed him and was also happy to see him, so he ignored her question and repeated his question; “didn’t you miss me? Because I missed you dear. I’m so sorry for not reaching out to you since after our date. I admit I behaved as a coward after you took the courage to share your sacred secret with me. To be honest, the news was overwhelming at the time so I had no better option than to give myself some space to figure this wh0le thing out. However, I was selfish in my actions because never for once did I pause to thing about how you must be feeling too. Not for once did I put myself in your shoes to know how painful it is. Faith I am very sorry, kindly accept my genuine apology” he soberly said.
At that moment, Faith was touched and didn’t know when tears began to fall from her eyes. When David saw her crying, he didn’t know what to do other than walk closer to her chair and gave her a warm hug. “It’s alright, don’t cry anymore. I know it seems as though the wh0le world is against you but I want to let you know this very moment that God sees and he knows what you are passing through. Maybe you didn’t have a friend to lean on before, but now you do. It’s clear God destined for our paths to cross that very day at the beach. I might not be able to promise you the world just yet but all I know is that I will always be here whenever you need a friend and shoulder to lean on. I have got you dear, now wipe those tears away and replace it with a smile on your face” David confidently said.
Oh my! What an angel in human form. How on earth can someone be so kind, compassionate, considerate and empathetic?. It takes just an ounce of kindness for a person to go from suicidal to having the will-power to live again. Words are powerful and can either heal or destroy a person. David might not know the magnitude of what he did that very day but he succeeded in giving Faith another shot at life and also made her feel better knowing that she now had a friend to talk to whenever she was down. They talked further for the remaining hours while Faith was on duty till it was time for her to round up for the day. David esc-rted her to where she parked her car before saying his final goodbyes. Afterwards, he walked to where he parked his own car and zoomed out.
After that day, David and Faith’s friendsh¡p grew form 0 to 100 real quick. They weren’t in a relationsh¡p but were best of friends. David usually brought her Anti-viral drugs from the hospital to avoid her from going there herself and having to go through the weird stares and eyeballs of those who stigmatize people with HIV. This was a huge relief for Faith because she stopped seeing or hearing things that reminded her of her predicament.
Every week, David made sure to stop by at Faith’s office or house just to check up on her. They occasionally went on dates every now and then and lived in the moment. As time went on, Faith began to look even more healthier than those without HIV. This sudden glow came from the feeling of knowing that she had someone in her life that truly cared about her as a friend. The random phone calls, dates and hangouts added more colours and happiness to her life. Despite the fact that her problems hadn’t disappeared into thin air, she was now in happy place in her life; mentally, emotionally and physically. Life was worth living now than ever.
However, as their friendsh¡p blossomed, David noticed the intensity of how Faith detested and despised anything that concerned God. Depiste the fact that she told him about her stance with God on their first date at the restaurant, he didn’t know how intense and deeply rooted her anger towards God was until the very day they were returning from an outing.
On that very day, David took Faith along with him for an outing hosted by his business partners. They had a good time and headed home when it began to get dark. Faith didn’t come with her car because David drove her to the venue that day, so it meant that he was to take her back home too.
As David drove to Faith’s destination, a gospel music was playing in the car radio. As the song kept playing, Faith immediately became moody and turned her face towards the window of the car. David was too focused with his driving to notice her body languages. Shortly after the song was done playing, a gospel ministration began and that was when she lost her cool.
Before the minister could even finish his opening speech, Faith sighed and turned off the radio.
