TITLE: TORN BETWEEN

Eucharia came downstairs and joined the women in the sitting room as the men had dispersed after the bombshell. She said she was going back to her house. They could see she was sober. Mama had gone to her room so it was only the women there aside from Thelma.
“What did Adim say?” Flora asked.
“What he always says. It is not important..”
“But it is; that girl should not think she has won,” Prisca replied.
“Won what? She doesn’t know Adim. He can’t take what he has dished out. To him, this was pure betrayal and public disgrace. She has lost him, I wish she knew that. He can be very stubborn. Let them sort out themselves.”
Njideka was surprised, “And you are not worried Uk. This doesn’t bother you? I hope you know he wants you back. This is an opportunity to get your marriage back.”
Eucharia laughed and said, “I can never make Adim happy, he has tested the forbidden fruit and there is no going back from it.”
“What do you mean?” Flora asked.
“That’s all I have to say. Let us start dinner.”
Adim came to Eucharia’s room with his luggage after dinner. She met him at the door. She was surprised. “What’s going on?”
“ I left her house, I came to stay with you.”
“I do not like this at all.”
“Let me in.”
Eucharia let him in. “Please, I do not want to be involved in your problems.”
“It’s our problem because I promised you it won’t happen. I am serious.”
“You can sleep here, I will stay with Mama.”
“She’s leaving tomorrow, she is already packed. She wanted my driver to take her back, but I told her she must be joking. She should either move with the children tomorrow with the bus or send for her driver to pick her up. She has been lamenting ever since. She has no rights, she thinks I am joking. Her driver I pay won’t come tomorrow; she must go with the bus.”
“I’m going over to Mama’s. I do not want to get involved with this and what happened last night cannot happen again.”
Adim allowed her to leave. He was adamant about leaving Thelma and he would leave her. He was surprised the boys were still in Eucharia’s house. What game was Thelma playing, it made no sense.
As Eucharia stepped out of her house and took a few steps towards Mama’s house, she saw Thelma. She did not want to have any conversation with her and wasn’t in the mood for an argument. She tried to walk past her but Thelma stopped her by calling out her name.
“Adim has moved into your house instead of his flat he wouldn’t let me stay in. He was with you last night, and he seemed happy to have you back under his control. Where are you going? Go back and continue from where you stopped last night. I have tried to respect you, but you do not respect yourself. Do you know the horrible things he said about you? He said you were beautiful only on the face but shapeless and unattractive when you took off your clothes. He called sex with you boring and you were not adventurous. He kept running to me because I took him places he had never been. The first time I gave him a BJ, he almost screamed down the building. I taught him how to give me pleasure, and we were a solid item. He needs you to attend to his food, clothes, laundry and other things he has no interest in. He can only achieve that by controlling you. He controls you through sex, and I control him through it too. Both of us will be sharing the same man, let us see whose bed he will want to jump into every night. You swore you would never have sex with him as long as he is having sex with me. News flash, we had sex yesterday morning, and because I would not give it to him last night he came crawling to you to have mediocre sex. Don’t you feel used? He used you to get back at me for getting pregnant. Let us see how long that will last.”
“Have you finished?” Eucharia asked her. “Now, whatever is happening between you and Adim is of no interest to me. The only hold you have proven you have on this man is purely sexual and nothing else. What does that tell you? Just in case he skipped telling you, I allowed him to marry you. He came to me and I encouraged him to do the needful, if I didn’t, you wouldn’t be here. I am boring in bed but powerful outside of it. You have no issue with me. If Adim and I have sex, we are a married couple and entitled to it. I have no business with you and I would appreciate it if you never stop me as you just did again. I will not be this patient with you next time.”
Eucharia walked away singing as she went to Mama’s house. She was going to sleep there because he wanted to know some things and only Prisca and Njideka would explain to her without shame. She wondered how she allowed herself to be backward. She had a lot of learning to do, she was desperate to be enlightened. She wanted to understand Adim’s experience with Thelma that made him scream and she did not know what oral sex and BJ were. She waited until late before Prisca and Njideka retired to bed. They were alone in the sitting room sharing a chair and whispering about events of the day.
Peter and Paul were solidly behind Adim in divorcing Thelma. They did not see why he would be with a conniving person who wanted to force her will on him. They believe the encounter Adim had with Eucharia last night reset his brain and broke the jinx. The downside was Eucharia refusing intimacy with Adim, once she goes back to that, Adim would either seek out Thelma or go for someone new. Eucharia found their thoughts funny.
“Leave Adim to live his life how he deems fit. He was in my bedroom hoping I would spend the night with him, I left. He should stay alone before Thelma will set my house on fire. By the way, her boys are in my house as we speak. She confronted me on my way here. I told her whatever was going on between her and Adim, I was not interested at all.”
Njideka was pissed,” What effrontery! That girl doesn’t fear or respect anyone.”
Prisca replied, “She knows the hold she has on Nda Adim. I told my husband Nda Adim will never leave her.”

“That is his headache. But I have a question to ask and I want you to explain it to me and tell me how it is done.”
“What is it?” Prisca asked.
“What is BJ? What is oral sex?”
Njideka and Prisca looked at each other and back at Eucharia and asked, “What?”
“Tell me about it. Thelma mentioned bj”
“Njideka biko answer her, this one is too big for my mouth.” Prisca lamented.
“Gladly. I cannot believe you have never heard of it before. Bj means Blow job. It is also oral sex done on a man.”
“How is it done?” Eucharia asked.
“Are you serious, Uk? You have never heard or done this before?”
“Never. I want to know about it because they both mentioned it.”
“You know your husband’s amu (phallus), you will put it in your mouth and suck it.”
“Tufiakwa!” Eucharai spat out. “How can anyone put that thing in their mouth?”
Njideka laughed before saying, “Because it gives them pleasure. That was how I got Peter, he enjoyed it too much. He felt I was too exposed but he couldn’t resist it. He enjoys it more than sex.”
“Are you serious?” Eucharia asked with her eyes almost falling out of their socket.
“Paul taught me how to do it. You know he lived where the girls were wild and crazy. The day he returned the favour, I peed on him. I had never had that kind of sensation before, it was so intense. He laughed at me. He opened my eyes to so many things. We have our secret stash of karma sutra movies where we learn new styles and practice. So, you did not know all these things?”
Njideka answered for Eucharia, “She is a good girl, nwa Mary, she did not know these things and Thelma used them to enter the family. If you do not do things to spice up your sex life, if Thelma shows, he will go.”
“He also said she was spontaneous and could have sex anywhere. If it is not the bedroom, count me out. It is because of the children. Why would I do things I am not comfortable with to please him?”
“Let him try what he does with Thelma on you and see if you will remain the same.”
“Does he want to give you an experience?” Njideka asked.
“No. I asked him what made Thelma special and he said these things.”
“Do you want him back? It is nothing to be ashamed of. Go back home and allow him to do some of the things he does with Thelma with you and teach you how to please him.”
“I cannot do that bj, I can’t. And I do not want his mouth on my own, biko. I am content the way I am. If I am not good enough for him, I will be good enough for another person.”
“Which other person?”
“If Adim ever goes back to Thelma, I will divorce him and marry another man.”
“You know you have to remain single if you divorce. You can’t take communion and your standing with God will be affected. You cannot take leadership positions in the church,” Njideka reminded her.
“I want to relocate to Lagos when that happens or abroad.”
“You are angry and cannot make reasonable decisions when upset. You love Nda Adim too much to divorce him. All men like adventurous sex, there is nothing special about Thelma. One man with a wife and three children left his wife and moved into an apartment with a twenty-one-year-old girl. A man in his fifties. Why? The girl was crazy. That was it. When the man could not meet up with her stamina and appetite for sex, she dumped him. He was devastated. He is back home completely repentant.”
“So how did he manage without her?” Eucharia asked.
“He went back to his boring wife. She did not leave him but had an affair too. She was also bored with him. When he came home, she refused to stop seeing the man. It caused problems before she finally accepted his apology and promised never to repeat itself. They’ve been good since then.”
Njideka replied, “This did not happen in Nigeria, the husband would have thrown her out and taken the children. Many women are doing it, some with younger guys but it is discreet. I refused to join them because I know Peter, he will never forgive me if I get caught. He comes home to us every opportunity he gets and I love him for that. The sex is good but he is not a sex freak. He does it to make me happy. Once he comes back and gets it, he doesn’t need it until he is going back.”
“His twin brother is a freak. He always wants to try new things. He says he never wants to desire another woman and so he does everything with me. I appreciate that.”
“Thank you for sharing your intimate lives with me. If we had had this conversation earlier, I would have learned a few things and gotten Adim excited. I do not trust Adim not to disappoint me. He came to me and it was easy for him to succeed because it has been so long. I do not want him to feel he can just control me because of that. I need to decide the life I want to live. It all depends on Adim’s actions going forward.”
