“Oh hello, you must be Jones” I heard Fernando say to him as I walked up the stairs to my room.
I paused at the foot of the stairs still boiling with anger. He slept with my best friend and he’s smiling at me like we are good friends. “WTH”
More anger coursed through my veins at the sound of their hearty laughters. I made to continue climbing the stairs but as I looked up, I saw twos, like the staircase is divided into two. I closed my eyes and shook my head to clear it off still it was the same. My grip on the stair handle loosened and slowly I saw the floor closing in me fast, before I succ-mbed to unconsciousness, I saw Maria’s face peering at me, looking concerned.
When did she start caring and isn’t she supposed to be hating me??

I opened my eyes slowly and adjusted to the glaring light above me. I turned sideways and saw Maria trying to pacify crying Brittany, she herself looked like she was going to cry soon.
Brittany gaze found mine and she quietened, staring at me curiously. I flashed her a small smile which she acknowledged by s-cking her thumb.
Maria followed her gaze and landed on me. “Oh hey you’re awake” she said dryly “it’s no wonder she stopped crying.”
“Is she supposed to be with her father?” I asked.
“Her father?? Fernando is going on about a girl he found in the club whom he spent the night with and is madly in love with. Can you imagine? Just one night and he’s in love. He didn’t even care about following me here, he said he’s going to follow a lead about the girl. What kinda man is he?” She said exasperatedly. “We been together for a very long time and now he wants to leave me because of a girl he spent the night with. I wanted to pray he wouldn’t find the girl but I we won’t be happy in our relationsh¡p. It’s better he finds his happiness, hopefully I’ll find my happiness very soon and stop hurting.” Her voice broke
I looked away guiltily and toyed with the end of my hair.
Maria suddenly narrowed her eyes at me “you can’t be the girl, are you?”
” What?!!!” I yelled at the top of my lungs “no..no I-I am not” I stuttered.
“That’s how people yell when they are lying” she frowned and looked away in though as if trying to remember something. “You went after him that night, you must have followed him to wherever it is he went to, waited till he was drunk and booked a room for the both of you because you’re dying to have s*x with him then you came back the following morning, sneaking like someone who just stole to have her favorite toy. You’re no different from your friend because you both slept with another girl’s boyfriend” she said accusingly.
My heart hammered in my chest and my throat tightened even my eyes burned at the accusation. I should have just denied everything and make her think it was another girl but my emotions betrayed me. “It’s not true I swear. I only wanted to bring him home but wanted to talk to him before we came that’s why I booked a room.”
“You could have talked outside” she scoffed.
“With a drunk man? No. Also there were a lot of hærd looking guys outside when I was going in, that alone gave me the chills. I was hoping he’d be a little sober which will make things easier when we’re going.”
“Well NEWSFLASH, he’s more sober than ever, looking for a mysterious girl.”
I looked away sadly and tried to keep my tears a bay. “Why did you help me?” I asked.
She stared at me with her mouth opened like I’ve suddenly grien two heads. “What was I supposed to do? Leave a human in need of my help? Sorry to burst your bubble, my parents didn’t train me that way” she huffed “At least I don’t go around hurting people’s feelings”
“What did the doctor say?” I asked, ignoring her jab.
“Well bad news, you don’t have a disease or something.”
“Were you hoping I get one?” I rolled my eyes at her. Who would have ever thought Maria and I will talk like normal humans? Guess I really misjudged her.
“No, I was just joking” she reached over and ruffled my hair, “and the good news is you’re expecting Fernando’s baby.”
