The Retelling Story of IGODO

Chapter 7

U mu-Igodo village

Igwe Omenike and his elders were in his palace, discussing about the outcome of a very strange thing that happened in the village recently. A young boy by name Arinze died and later on he came back to life to the surprise of the villagers who had gone to sympathize with the family, such a thing had never happened or been heard before in Umu-Igodo. It was really strange.
The parents of the young child, Arinze, came and told the igwe what had happened in their family that day.
And now right in his palace, he was discussing the strange happenings with his elders .
“Elders of the great Umu-Igodo I great you”. The igwe greeted.
“We greet you Igwe”, The onowu answered for everyone.
“Well as you all can see, something strange had begin to happen in this village, yesterday Adanna came and told us that her son died and miraculously came back to life, today my two big he-goats died right in front of my eyes but strangely as I turn to call one of the guards to come and throw their dead bodies into the evil forest they began to bleat again, my two big he goats strangely came back to life. I was left speechless. What is really happening? I am confused”.
“Igwe, we have no answers to your questions. The only one who would have been in a better position to tell us the meaning behind all these mystery is not here. Since Igodo left with the children of Amadioha in search of the Amadioha Kinfe no one has heard of him. I also noticed that when they left that was when all these strange things started”. Onowu said
“May be Amadioha is glad that we did not stop the children of Amadioha who will deliver us from the curse, who knows”, Mazi Okeke said and the rest agreed to his statement.
“Well nevertheless we shouldn’t keep our hopes high we still don’t know what tomorrow will bring, but nevertheless let us keep watching what Amadioha has in store for us”, Igwe Omenike told them as he stare upwards in the sky, thinking about his son in the evil forest and praying for their success.

“How can I eat when I know very well that my Ikemefuna, my only son, hasn’t eaten”, Obidiya said in between her tears.
“I also know that mama, but I can assure you that nothing will happen to my brother. You have to believe me mama when I say Ikemefuna will come to us unharmed and unhurt. I have seen it”.
“Mechie onu gi tupu m mechie ya- Shut up your mouth before I shut it. Have you ever seen a living being going into the forest of the living dead and come back alive, gbo? Forest of the Living-Dead

The early rays of sun met the children of Amadioha as they journeyed further and further going into deeper part of the forest of old. Uzodinma as usual was leading the way when she suddenly came to a halt prompting the others to stop.
“What is it again-Ogini kwa?” Ojadike asked.
“I don’t know, but my spirit says we should stop”, Uzodnma responded looking around them checking to see if she could see any threats but saw none. “Something is coming towards us, but I don’t know the direction where it is coming from”.

Suddenly

The ground beneath their feets started shaking, all of them held their staffs in front of them. Soon the ground cracked open and dead warriors who had long ventured into the evil forest a long time ago in search of the Amadioha’s knife but died in the forest of the Living dead when they couldn’t find the kinfe began to creep out from the ground.

As the ground started shaking and cracking, Agu, Ikemefuna’s chi told them to grab their staffs and lift it up in the air, once they did as they were told. Surprisingly their staffs began to lift them up in the air. And started moving forward and after a few minutes dropped them in a more safer place, and they continued their journey.

MEANWHILE in the spirit world

The spirit with the fiery eyes, Amadiohia’s sword, had a change of heart and told them.

“Do not send the warriors spirit of ancient to them again. Let us let the forest of the living dead deal with them”.

“Okay, your lordsh¡p, but what if they all escape from the traps the forest would set for them?”

“Let them come then, I am waiting for them”.

“Beat me if I know the answer to that”, Emeka responded.

“I think I have a idea”, Ikenga suddenly announced.

“And what is it?” Ikemefuna eagerly asked.

“My brother, Ikenna is good with arrows and they follow his direction. I suggest we tie something or rope that will hold us and let him shoot his arrow on that tree so that we should be able to cross to the other side of the pit”. Ikenga responded.

“Great idea, let us check if we can see any thing that is strong to carry us across”, Uzodinma said and they proceeded in search for a rope. Soon Ikemefuna found an old rope pile under a tree, and announced to the others he had seen a rope. They quickly secure the one end of the rope to Ikenna’s arrow and Odum took hold on the other

Ikenna immediately shot his arrow, as it swiftly made its way towards the tree his brother had pointed out and struck into the tree deeply.
