Diana rose to her hands and knees and slowly lifted her hand to touch Maggie’s cold face.

Her heart sanked and tears strolled down her cheeks uncontrollably, she sobbed as she lay down on Maggie’s body and looked around to see if Tricia is around.

She’s no where in sight, Diana has no idea which part of the compound she ran to, she looked towards the gate and watched as the police men took refuge with some parts of the gate and shot back at whoever the gunmen outside are.

“Mom, please stand up and let’s go in,side!”Diana shouted admix the sound”oh God!”.

Diana lifted her head again to see two men running towards her, two police men are lying breathless beside the gate, one of them where held by another man, the man held a gun to the officer’s head.

Diana leaped up and ran towards the back of the house,her heart pounded so much that she thought it might burst out.

“Hey!… Pretty!!… don’t run or I will be forced to open some little h0les in your head!!!”A male voice shouted at her.

She stopped in her tracks and turned her head slowly to look at them,she could swear that’s Peter’s voice that she heard and no doubt he’s the one that came to her and grabbed her on the hair,he held a gun to her midriff.

“Peter, why are you doing this, what did David do to you?”She forced her voice to be slow as she questioned the masked man holding her captive, her voice turned out shaky.

Peter’s laughter erupted her head like a hammer to nail as he pushed her violently towards the gate where a creamy colour faded car is now packed.It was a mocking laughter, she felt numb.

She could feel the other man following them from behind with a gun ready to shoot her at any slight attempt to free herself from Peter’s grip,if not,she knew alot about self defense in cases like this.

He pushed her into the car and got in beside her,the gun pointed at her cheek this time,the others got in pushing the police man who was unarmed by then away and the car bounced out of the area in great speed.

“David”she whispered,that’s the only word that her l-ips parted to say and her mind remembered only his name,his touch,his smile,his arrogant features,his l-ips on hers…..

This is the first time she’s keeping a man in mind when she’s certain she’s in big trouble.

Her mind failed to think of Maggie,that’s lying on her son’s compound,dead or alive,she can’t say.
Not Tricia her best friend who she can’t tell where she ran to, shotted or safe,she can’t say.

Or the dead cops or the last one in a devastated condition.
Wow.
Will she survive or join the others,what becomes of David?.

No!… David will look for her and find her!.

Yes ! He will.

“Where the hell are you taking me to?!”Where her courage came from, she’s yet to know.

“Shut up or……”

“You will shoot me?!”she cutted him off boldly looking him straight on his masked face with a tilted chin”do it! Peter! do it and live the rest of your life behind bars!!”

The man sitted on her right hand side made to hit her but Peter stopped him.

“Jack,let her be, she’s good at acting up, in,side, she’s shattered”Peter smirked and reluctantly removed his mask.

He made to touch her hair but she shoved his hand away.

“Don’t you dare lay those filthy hand on me!, you will surely pay for this!, you will see!!”

Peter laughed hoarsely and asked;

“David will come for your rescue,is that it?!”

Diana looked up at his unmasked face and said coolly”you don’t look dangerous no matter how you try to look it,this nonsense life doesn’t fit you any bit”

“What do you think fits me?!”he snapped”what the hell do you know about me?!”

“Peter, I know that I know absolutely nothing about you, but I can tell that your pierced nose doesn’t look like something that came from living these sort of life, your eyes says something different too”she continued as the car’s tires screeched along the lonely road the car turned to just a second ago.

Peter took hold of her jaw, his fingers digged deep into her even toned cheeks as he spoke in an angry voice;

“Don’t you….dare… patronise me!, you know nothing about me!!”

The car suddenly ran off with greater speed that the driver became perplexed on what to do to control it.

“What’s going?!”Peter spoke first in surprise,he released Diana whom winced in pain.

“Can’t seem to figure out what’s up with this shit!”the man behind the wheel said rushedly touching every button beside, behind and beneath the wheel to halt the car,the accelerator doesn’t seem to be working at all.

The car tumbled into the bush and the glasses shattered into pieces,the front left tire wheeled away.

The windscreen’s stained with blood of the driver instantly, Peter’s vision went blurry as a car packed nearby and four armed men rushed towards them.

Diana noticed the men are in uniform and the two men sitted at each sides of her,Jack and Peter, looked around in confusion,they seem to have forgotten their guns,her head whirred as tears covered her vision.

The men,she noticed,are police men.
They dragged Peter and his cohorts out and handcuffed them,they took them into their car while one of them helped her out,her mind went blank,she felt safe.

“”Hello sir?”Kendrick’s personal investigator, Anthony, said to the phone with his deep voice.

“Yes?,what’s the news?”Kendrick asked looking out his office window.

“She’s safe and sound,the police have taken her to the hospital and the men are in their custody waiting trial”Anthony explained in his always blunt manner.

“Oh thank God,text me the hospital address,I need to go see my daughter!,and ….how did the police get them?”

“We found their location, and loosed some certain parts of the car they used for the operation, especially the tires in such a way that only experts will notice,

we followed them anyways as well as the police with unidentified cars,they pulled the trigger at some point at David’s house, we wanted to attack but we had to thread with care, so we allowed them get hold of her before nemesis caught up with them” He explained more calmly.

“That’s a job well done, thanks for everything Anthony”Kendrick appreciated his P.I.

“Don’t mention sir”Anthony said in a final tone.

Kendrick didn’t know anything else to say,he simply cutted the call as a smiled played on his l-ips.
“My daughter is safe,thank you Lord!”.

“How’s my mother doing………”

“Relax sir, she’s in safe hands”

This is the fifth nurse that has said exactly the same words to him before they zoom off into the emergency room, David’s pissed off already.

Tricia hadn’t got the strength to stand up from where she had been sitted ever since they arrived at the hospital.

She had called David and he had come and taken their mother to the hospital,the only surviving police man had followed them.

She has no idea where they took Diana to, she’s still shaken by what unfolded right before her eyes a few hours ago.

Her head where on her laps as she muffled on.

David moved to his sister and sat beside her “Mom will be fine, I have called the D.P.O too and he promised to get Diana back here, you can’t remain like this, we have to be strong for mother and Diana”.

Tricia only nodded but didn’t make any attempt to change her position,she remained mute as the wh0le thing happened over and over her eyes.

“Mr.David?”A voice called.

David’s head snapped up at the direction of the voice at once and his heart leaped up at the view he saw.

Diana’s in the arms of a cop, she’s unconscious at the moment,her heart rose and fall slowly, she’s alive!.

He ran to the man and took her into his own arms and found his way into a ward.

Tricia became lively immediately as she shouted at some of the nurses around to come take care of her friend.

“Where’s my daughter?!”Kendrick shouted to the nurse sitting behind a desk, Jasmine stood behind him paving impatiently.

The nurse whose attention was on a record book she’s going through looked up at them and asked coolly;

“How may I may I help you sir,ma?”with a raised brow sidestepping his first statement.

Kendrick cleared his throat and tried calming down.

“My daughter was admitted here a few minutes ago,by the police,am…we are here to see her”

“Her name is Diana Leonard”Jasmine jumped in impatiently.

“Okay,let…me …. check”the nurse drawled looking at the record she’s holding to find information about the person they talked about.

“Excuse me….I ..”David tried talking to the man and the woman beside him,but his voice trailed off when the woman’s attention went to his sister.

“Tricia?,what are you doing here?”Jasmine asked worriedly as Tricia ran into her arms.

“Mom,am so sorry,this is all my fault,Diana wouldn’t have got hurt,she shouldn’t have been here in the first place”Tricia said not being able to control her tears.

“What do you mean,Trish?”Jasmine questioned looking from her to David who seemed surprised.

“Who’s she?”Kendrick asked when he couldn’t put the face together.

“She’s Diana’s best friend,honey”Jasmine told her husband.

“Hello ladies and gentlemen?”Doctor Fred came into view.

They all faced him at once.

“Can we see them now?”David asked first.

“David I…. why’s this so hærd to say?”Fred murmured more to himself than the people waiting for him to talk.

“Common Fred!…talk to me,which ward?”David asked more impatiently looking at the hallway that led to the numerous wards.

Fred dropped his palm on David’s shoulder and shaked his head sadly.

“Fred,what’s wrong with you?,why acting funny?!”Tricia talked this time, urging the doctor to tell them which ward Diana and Maggie are in.

“David….we lost… your mother”Fred announced the news sadly and added “Am sorry buddy, Diana’s in ward seven, she’s fine”he held David tightly on his two arms so he wouldn’t slump to the ground as he intended to do.

Tricia ran to the doctor and held him tight on his shirt.

“Noooo!…tell me you are joking!!”Tricia shrieked pushing Fred violently.

David froze and stared into space.

Kendrick and Jasmine didn’t find the leg to go see their daughter as they stood and watched the outburst of emotion,they felt s-cked off breath at that moment.

Jasmine went to hold Tricia while Kendrick tried calming David down.

Nadia,Harry and Melvin came in just then.

“What’s going on here?!”Harry asked as he went to get Tricia off the doctor’s shirt.

“Maggie left us”Fred said to the confused Harry and whoever the other two are.

“Oh my God!!”Nadia ran to her friend.

Melvin was confused on what to do, should he console Tricia that he had offended with his stupid attitude towards Diana? or David?… he’s going to kill him for sure, after everything that transpired between them in front of David’s house?.he just stood and watched sadly.

“Few hours later*

“How are you feeling?”Jasmine asked her daughter but Diana’s gaze wasn’t on her or Kendrick.
She stared into space.

“Where’s David?…did he see his mother?”she asked looking at the faces that stood before her for once.

“Yes,they are fine,we are waiting for you to stand up to your feet again”Nadia offered holding her friend.

“Yes Diana,you have to worry about yourself for now”Harry said too.

They had come to see her including Melvin, while David and Tricia spent a few minutes with their late mother’s corpse.

If they come to her with tears ,she might get worse,they worried about her.

“No,if she’s alright, David would be here”Diana said and made to stand up but Kendrick held her back.

“Who’s this David to you anyways?!”her father asked angrily”I have talked to the doctor,I need him to discharge you,so you will be transferred to another hospital, can’t leave you here,it’s far from home”

“No…am not going anywhere”her eyes wetted up.

“Diana,what’s wrong with you,we have to take you with us,you need to be properly taken care of by a more accurate medical personnel,this is more like a local hospital,it’s crappy”Jasmine tried talking sense into her daughter.

“Mum, I don’t care!… I need to see David!!”she climbed down the bed and stormed out.

“I can’t believe this is my daughter!…did she really come out of my groins?!”Ken scuffed at Diana’s behavior.

“No,she came out of your great grand parents groins!, is it not you that she took after with all your stubbornness and secretive life!!”Jasmine barked and left the room.

Ken looked like a puppy being accused of eating eggs as his eyes traveled from one curious person to another.

He braced up his shoulders,cleared his throat and followed his wife out.

Nadia shaked her head vehemently and left.Harry and Melvin exchanged looks and almost collided their heads together when they left the ward together.

Diana halted at the door beside the hospital entryway and knew that must be the doctor’s office, she needs to see him, maybe David and Tricia are in there too.

She pushed the door open to see Dr.Fred on his chair,his head bent down.

“Where’s David?!”

He looked up slowly and replied”Maggie’s dead….we lost her”

Diana’s knees buckled as she tried to walk towards him and give him a dirty slap for using death as a comic word”that has to be a joke”she whispered as she gave up trying to walk and slumped to the floor.

“David and Tricia are….”

“We are here!”David said coming right in,side, Diana didn’t close the door.

Diana’s neck cracked with the force on which she twisted her head to look at David.

David knelt beside her and hugged her as she cried her soul out.

Tricia’s now in Harry’s arms as he tried comforting her, she’s too weak to cry a tear again,she just lay her head on Harry’s shoulders and allowed the chill feel her over and over again.

Diana’s parents watched, Melvin and Nadia watched,at loss of what to do or say.

*Two weeks later*

“Thanks Diana for your help,what could we have done without you”Tricia appreciated her best friend,they sat down at the corridor of the family house.

“You know you don’t have to thank me for anything,what are friends for?”Diana rebuffed.

“But you have to agree with me that the burial was a grand and befitting one because of your father and I know you are the one that will tell him to do everything”Tricia said forcing a smile to her l-ips ever since her mother’s dead.

“I had to do what I had to do because if I were in your shoes, you would do exactly the same thing for me”

“Whatever, you are never at loss of what to say,but thanks anyways”

They smiled at each other and took a sip of their wine.Tricia shouted orders to the men arranging chairs to a truck to be careful not to break any of it.

“You don’t have to border yourself friend,if they destroy anything,their wages will be used to pay for it”Diana said patting her on the shoulder.

“Okay… I can’t believe my mom is gone”Tricia’s voice cracked,she hated it,she hated the fact that nothing will bring her mother back to them.
She hated everything about life.

“Oh my God Trish! stop it, everything will be alright,am here for you, David too, I know no one will ever take your mother’s place in your heart but in life, we have to accept certain things the way they are meant to be, okay?”

“Mmm…”she nodded and hugged her friend.

“See now, you are loosing weight!”
They laughed.

“That’s because I haven’t tasted your food for two weeks now!”Tricia said laughing huskily.

David and Harry came out from in,side the house.

“Are you guys talking about me?,why gossiping about me!”Harry teased.

“What’s there to gossip about you, except the fact that you are too nosy for my liking”Tricia threw in and everyone laughed,it’s good to see that she’s coming around,for two weeks,she had been mute.

“Huh?!…too nosy, wow…so that’s the new word for me”Harry played on.

“Oh please!..shut up,you already know!”Tricia laughed.

“Well…let’s get serious guys, I have to go see Thelma and know how she’s feeling, Fred said he discharged her yesterday”David said and pulled a chair closer to sit beside Diana.

Harry sat down beside Tricia on the cozy cushion.

“Is she really fit to be discharged so soon?”Diana asked looking at David.

“Yes,Fred assured me that she’s fine,her wound is almost healed up”he replied.

“Okay…well…that’s good news, I will go with you to see her because I might go home this evening or tomorrow”Diana said with a shrug as she drained the remnants of her drink.

“Thanks for everything Diana”David said taking her hand in his and placing the right one untop.

“Is that a new song for you and Trish, I must say it’s well polished and acceptable”she grinned.

“Then I might as well join the chorus, thank you so much Diana, we owe everything to you and your family, I wish I’m David right now”Harry hummed.

Tricia gave him a dreadful glare.
“I’m not him”He completed returning her glare.

“You will never be”David said,eyed him and k-ssed Diana.

Tricia laughed mocking Harry who threw his face away.

“You never told me about your family, hope you will brief me on bed tonight?”David whispered to Diana.

She squinted her eyes and ran her tongue through her l-ips.

“Sure”she replied and bent to k-ss him again.
