CHAPTER ONE:
SCOTLAND.
1880.
The generation of De Valcourt’s has been taken over by the Malfreds since the 15th century. And since the first reign of the Malfreds, Hasting has never been in peace. The threateous reign of the now king’s has caused a lot of disaster to the people and the kingdom as a whole.
The ruthless King Soopers has passed this traits down to his fifth generation, ruled by another ruthless and crueless king; King Euchred; another more dangerous and heartless than his ancestors.
Euchred’s wife died four years after his coronation. His wife has suffered greatly from a deadly disease, one which cannot be cured, even by the best physician of the land.
Rumors were spread around that her death was due to a curse passed down to the wife’s of all Malfreds. Somehow, the curse has been manifested from her.
The horror of the dreadful sickness and how this misfortune came to be, above all, the tremendous phenomenon took away the king’s speech. Yet, his silence lasted longer than even grief could occasion.
He mourned her for a month, and for the rest of the months that same year, he seemed less attentive to his loss.
Euchred was left with his only daughter; princess Hannah; aged twenty. She was recognized to be the most beautiful woman of the land. Her timidity was quite different from her father, and she was more humbled and loving like her mother was.
Although she is a homely youth, but she was also the darling of her father. Euchred contracted a marriage for his daughter with the king of Maidenstone; Lord Luxor.
Hannah’s impatience for this ceremonial was remarked by her father and neighbours. She has known Lord Luxor for quite a long time, and have heard a lot about him. Since her father told her about the marriage, she haven’t stop for praying for his quick arrival.
The Maidenstone kingdom was located at the top hill of the eastern highland. It was also regarded as one of the greatest highland community. They are known as war fighters, and they never leave a battlefield without victory in return.
That is one reason King Euchred wanted his daughter to marry an highlander.
And there is only one reason Lord Luxor must marry king Euchred’s daughter, to get back what belongs to him.
He was in the meeting room with his cabinets when the messanger rushed in, falling on his knee. ” Sire, you have a letter from the Hastings. ”
Conrad, his servant, took it from the messanger, offering it to Luxor who opened it, staring at the writings. Folding it back, he sighed softly. ” We leave to Hasting tomorrow at nightfall. ” He informed.
” Euchred, Euchred, Euchred. ” He repeated the name three times, smirking.

Hannah had heard about the letter sent to Maidenstone, and had thought a reply would be returned. She wouldn’t comprehend if she should just guess a response from Lord Luxor will be sent back within a day.
She thought of going to her father’s room to ask but waited patiently for the evening to come. Waiting a day for Lord Luxor to arrive was like waiting for a year to pass by. What will it be to her if it was a week arrival?
She walked to his room, pausing at his door. She heard him traverse his chamber backwards, and forward with disordered steps; a mood which increased her apprehensions. She was however, just going to knock, when he suddenly opened the door.
” Who is that? ” He asked.
” My dearest father, it is I, your daughter. ”
Euchred, stepping back said, ” Oh, come in. ”
Hannah entered, beaming her face with a smile. ” Evening, father. How was your day? ”
” It was good, Hannah. What about yours? ”
” Much good. ”
” Please have a sit.” He ushered her to a seat. ” What brings you here if I may ask?” He sat on the chair very close to hers.
” Well, father, I heard you sent a letter to Lord Luxor, is that true? ”
” Yes, I did. ”
” I was wondering if you have gotten any reply since then?”
” Not yet. Luxor is so hot-headed, he takes everything his own way. But when I let him know how serious I am, he will have no choice but to plead for your hand in marriage.” He touch her chin as he said that.
Hannah blushed. ” Father, you do not think you are being too rational towards this?”
” Sure; you do not think this is the only way we can persuade him to marry you? I know what he wants and I will let him have it if he takes my chances. And my daughter, will become a great queen of a great kingdom. What do you think?”
” You are right father, with that, we will rule both Hasting and Maidenstone together. ”
” Yes, that is a good idea. I will have much benefits from the Maidenstone through you. Yes, ” he nodded in agreement. ” Yes. ”
Hannah smiled halfway. ” But father, what does he look like? Like Samson or… David or even… Solomon?”
” I never knew you know about the ancient warriors.”
” I always go to the chapel, they always mention those names. And they have said quite a lot about them. So, which does he look like?” She asked again.
” Uhmm… I would say, he has the features of Samson, handsome like Solomon and brave like David. So, he posses the three to himself.”
” Really? Then, that makes us a perfect fit. I would love to see him very soon, very soon.” She said.
Words cannot paint the happiness of Hannah. At first, she apprehended that Luxor will of no match be worthy of her beauty. After her father had explained what he was like, her next thought suggested that he was more worthy of her love.
Through out the whole night, Hannah slept with an excited heart.
