CHAPTER FOUR: LIFE IN THE CASTLE (I).
While she bathed Daphne, she remembered her discussion with the princess. ” Daphne, ” she called.
” Mmm?”
” Do you mind to know what I had discussed with the princess? ” She asked.
Daphne looked at her halfway, nodding her head.
” The princess wants you to serve her as her maid servant. She said she wants to help us, for you to live a life in the castle. What do you think? ”
” That is great! ” She exclaimed happily, ” What did you tell her? ”
” I said I would talk with you and give her a reply tonight. I can see you have accepted already, why don’t you go to the castle and give her your reply instead? ”
” I will. ”
She quickly dressed up in her long green gown, tying her red scalff around her neck. She left to the palace happily, thinking of how her life would be serving as one of the princess’s maid.
Her heart was beating against her chest and she has no idea why. Is she scared? Or, is that a sign of happiness talking in her?
She was thinking about all this that she didn’t know she was standing right in front of the castle. ” Excuse me,” she flinched, heaving a deep breath, ” what do you want?” Asked one of the guard.
” I… I am here for… ”
” Me. ” Hannah completed, as she walks outside the gate. ” She is here for me. Let her in. ” Daphne looked at the guard for the last time, making her way in after the princess.
” Thanks for earlier.”
She looked at Daphne, smiling. ” Don’t worry about them, they are only doing their job. ”
Daphne nodded and they went further into the castle. As they walked to her chamber, Daphne’s eyes admired the beauty of the castle. She hasn’t seen such a heaven before. She never knew her life would be honored one day.
Somehow she wish she could tell why she was loving why she had to quickly accept the offer even without having it thought through. Everything about the castle was awesome and gorgeous.
” I presume you’re here for your reply, am I right?” Hannah asked while they kept walking.
” Yes. My mother told me what you discussed with her yesterday.”
” What is your reply to it, if I may ask? ”
” Yes, I accept to serve her Highess and to work as her maid. ”
Hannah stopped, turning to her. ” Just what I wanted to hear.” She continued walking, ” Well, I am greatly pleased and I will admit I never expected the reply to arrive so soon. ”
She opened the door to her chamber, they walked in. The first thing that escape from Daphne was a slight gasp of ” oh,” her mouth curves in an ‘o’ shape. ” I can see how surprised you are since you walked in. Well, you aren’t the first to act so surprised, neither are you the first outside the palace walls to step a feet in the castle. So, back to what we were saying, do you still have a change of mind to this? ”
” No. ”
” Great. I would have loved you to start your duty today but, I will likewise love you to inform your mother first. She mustn’t be kept unaware of your resumption. ”
” Yes, my lady. ”
” I am pleased to have you as my maid servant, or I would rather call it, my companion. ”
” A pleasure, my lady. ”
” Good night. We will meet tomorrow.”
“Good night, my lady. Sleep tight. ”
She exited with much happiness than she had used to come. She can’t wait to tell her mother everything, starting from how gorgeous the castle looked.
On reaching home, she went into her room, getting her clothes ready for the next day. Her mother watched as her as she packed her bags excitedly, she was so happy for her. With the community leaders gone, and her daughter serving in the castle, nothing made poor Mrs Martha happy.

The next morning approached like a miracle. Daphne rushed her breakfast, went in for a quick bath and after k!$sing her mother a Good-bye k!$s, she departed to the castle. Her new home.
” Good bye, mother. ” She waved like her leaving was for eternity.
” Good-bye, Daphne. I will visit you someday.”
” And I will be waiting for you. ”
” Take care of yourself for me, okay? ”
” I will. You too, take good care of yourself. ” She k!$sed her cheeks again. ” Bye. ”
In the castle, she saw as different good-looking maidens walked to and fro, busy with different duties assigned to them. They moved in groups and singles, no one talking to the other.
Everywhere were calm and neat. It was like the castle contained a different life from the outside and none seems to be complaining. Life in the castle was a lot comfortable than life outside it’s walls. The outside world felt like eternal damnation.
” Welcome to the castle.” Greeted a maid, bringing Daphne back to reality.
” Oh, my…” She chuckled. ” Good morning.”
” You are the new maid her Highess is expecting, right? ”
” Yes. Yes, I am. ”
” My name is Queenderline, but you can call me Line. And you are? ” She asked.
” Daphne… My name is Daphne. ”
” Nice to meet you, Daphne. ”
” Thank you. ”
” Please follow me, Daphne. The princess is expecting you. ” They started to head to nowhere familiar to Daphne. Each seconds she was amazed at the sight of the castle, no matter how much she has had, she just haven’t had enough. ” You are a bit early.”
” I know, just trying to keep to my punctuality.”
Line looked at her for awhile. ” I admire that. ”
” Thanks. ” Line was the head maid of the castle, personal servant of the deceased Queen. She has served by the queen’s side for thirteen years and her loyalty to the royalty’s hasn’t faded.
They entered a room, covered in white clothes. Few maids were dressing, some were having their bath. The once noisy room grew quiet, their eyes studying Daphne’s poor appearance.
” Is she the new maid?” One of them asked.
” Yes, and I want you all to treat her accordingly. She might not be used to everything, but I expect cooperation among you all. Understood? ”
” Yes, Miss. ”
” Good. ” Turning to Daphne, she said, ” Those need to be changed.” She stared at her almost worn-out dress, forming a slight grin on her l-ips. ” Have a warm bath, your new dress is on the door and some oils are beside the tub. Any other thing should be complained later. ”
” Okay. ” She nodded.
Line left the bathroom. Daphne smiled at the rest of the girls who in return smiled at her. ” Although your clothes are worn-out, but I will admit, you look beautiful. ”
Daphne blushed slightly, smiling at her. ” My name is Susan. What’s your name? ”
” Daphne.”
“Wow, that’s a nice name. ” They exchanged their names, and waited for each other until they were done. Daphne felt welcomed at that instant, she knew things will be a lot easier for her. And it’s all starting from now.
