CHAPTER FIVE: LIFE IN THE CASTLE II ( FIRST TRAINING )
” You will not look at her Highess while she is talking to you. ” Line informed, ” Your head must be faced downward.”
” But why? ” She asked.
” Because…” She paused, then continued. ” that is the rules. As I was saying, when she says anything funny you must laugh. ”
” What if it isn’t funny at all? ” She asked again.
” You must laugh.” She insists, ” If she asks you to join her for dinner or lunch or breakfast, do not be in a haste to accept such offer. Hesitate but if she persists, you are left with no choice. You must dress her chamber as early as the cork crows before she is up from bed, understood? ”
” Yes, ma’am. ”
” No, ma’am. Just Miss. ” She corrected.
” Yes, Miss. ”
” And most importantly, try not to offend her Highess or.. ” she stopped.
” Or what? ”
” You won’t want to know what it is. So, to avoid such, just keep to the rules. Your duty starts now, try not to make any mistake too. Once again, welcome to the castle. ”
” Thank you. ” Line left, while Daphne made her way to the kitchen.
” Hi, Daphne.” Greeted the cooker.
” Hi cook.” She chuckled, ” Sorry I don’t know your name. ”
” You can call me Jane and she is Jenny, my assistant. ”
” Wow, your names sounds similar. ”
” Yes, and that is why we were assigned for the same duty. Want to taste my porridge? ”
” Porridge?! ” She asked excitedly.
” Guess it’s your favorite? ”
” Of course, ” she tasted a spoonful of the porridge, humming at it’s sweetness. ” It taste good. Is this for the princess too? ” She pointed at one of the plates.
” Yes.”
” I need to serve her breakfast first, then after that I will be back as soon as she is done eating. Then, I will have a good taste of your porridge. ”
” Sure. ” Daphne took the tray of porridge to princess Hannah’s room, serving it to her. She made sure her eyes were on the ground, trying to keep to her practice.
Hannah noticed it, she said nothing about it until she was done eating her food. When Daphne came to take her plate, she stopped her. ” How do you see being in the castle?”
” It is a lot comfortable and peaceful than the outside. Since I walked in, everyone has been so kind to me. ”
” You should be looking at me while you talk. ” She said to Daphne’s amazement.
” What? ” She asked in shock.
” I know you’re only trying to keep to the rules, but sometimes, those doesn’t work for me. You are my maid, and you are free to look at me as long as you want. I hate it when people stares at nothing on the ground, it really annoys me. ”
Daphne tried to maintain an eye contact with her, but, it wasn’t so hærd for her to adjust. ” Well, that’s all I have to say to you. Have you had breakfast yet? ”
” No. Not yet. ”
” Try to have one before noon. ” She told her. Daphne felt more loved by princess Hannah, she was so caring and loving and have been kind-hearted towards her.
But something about them still baffles her, the king has been known with bad reputations and yet his judgement towards her household and the need leaders was of justice. His daughter was loved by all, but she was much of a loving person than the people talked about.
During the noon, she had asked for a walk. Daphne followed her around the castle, passing through rooms, halls and hallways and out of the castle to the garden where they sat under a shaded area.
They talked and talked for a long period of time, Daphne still not believing she was really talking with the princess. It all looked like she was talking to her mate. Although, Hannah looked an inch taller than her but, no doubt they were of the same age.
” Daphne?” She called.
” Yes, my lady?”
” Have you ever come across a king? How does it feels staring at a handsome king? ”
She smiled. ” Honestly, aside from his majesty, your father, I haven’t seen a king before. And, I really do not know what it feels like staring at one. But, if I may ask, why is her Highess asking? ”
She chuckled at first before replying. ” I will be getting married soon. One of this days, we will be leaving Hasting to another great kingdom. ”
” Where would this great kingdom be? ”
” Maidenstone… ”
” I have never heard of it before. Where is this Maidenstone? ”
” I do not know, but according to what people says, it’s really up on a mountain. You know, I never expected you to be this surprised about my marriage. I always believed rumors to be this wild, but guess I was wrong. ”
” Or maybe, that’s only because I didn’t want to listen to the rumors. ”

CHAPTER SIX: LETTER FROM HASTING.
Luxor paced to and fro his throne, his hands folded to his back. The hall was so quiet, thankfully there was no one to disturb him with this nor that.
Getting back what belongs to him has been his everyday dreams, to own back what his father once possessed. And if taking it forcefully was the only best way, he was ready to do it.
He was supposed to be at Hasting two nights ago, but had declined visiting. He has never seen his yet-to-be bride but he has heard a lot about her. He was in no time for marriage yet, and he is not ready to have one beside him either.
But with King Euchred threatening him, he has no option. Even though he knows his only reason for marrying the daughter of King Euchred is to gain back what he owns.
He would sit on his throne and after a while, he will stand still pacing around the hall. ” Lady Hannah, ” he called the name like it held respect in it.
The door opened, and Earnest entered with a folded brown shit in his hand. He knelt down, ” Your majesty.” He stretched out his hand for Luxor to take the paper.
He unfolded it, reading through the letters. He slowly squeezed it in his grip, his once troubled heart grew more troubled. The news was not safe and he would lose everything if he doesn’t hasten to the letter.
The Barbarians… Coming… To Hasting?
The words kept reciting in his head; « Hurry up and come take your bride for the Barbarians are yet to invade the castle. »
He knew it was time to finally leave to Hasting without any declining thoughts. He has to go, he has to marry the princess. It was as if his breath had increased, he said, ” Prepare the horses, we journey to Hasting tonight. ”
“Yes, sire. ”

Hannah walked into his chambers, looking so worried and sad. Her father, the king, noticed this and the least thing he ever wanted was to see his daughter sad.
” You look trouble, my dear, what is it? ” He asked.
She sat on one of the chairs, ” Father, it’s been days and Lord Luxor has shown no sign of arrival. Don’t you think he takes the treasure less important? ”
” No. Luxor will stop at nothing to get it back. ”
” But why? Why hasn’t he arrive to Hasting yet? ”
” Is that what troubles you? Do not worry, for Luxor will be here by tonight. ”
” How do you know that? Did he send you a letter? ” She asked, curioused.
” No, I am the one who had sent a letter to him. ”
” What did you tell him? ” She asked again.
” I told him that the Barbarians were coming and that he should hasten to take his bride home. So, my lovely beloved, do not worry about his arrival for it is near. Tonight, he will be taking you home. ” He rubbed her cheek.
She blushed, smiling. ” But father, why can’t we leave our travel till morning? ”
” Why do you insist? ” He asked.
” You know I hate night travels and I am scared of the creepy noise of the night creatures. Why don’t you let him spend the night here in the castle? I shall inform my maids to amend my chamber and make it comfortable for us. ”
He smiled, nodding in agreement. ” Of course, I will. As far as we hold the treasure, Luxor will have to obey whatever we decide. ”
” Thank you, father. Thank you so much. ” She k!$sed his cheek. ” I have to go now. I must start my preparations today. ”
” Yes, go ahead. ” He permitted.
She quickly left to her chambers and Daphne was already there. She threw herself onto her bed, smiling excitedly. ” My lady, what gladdens you?” She asked.
” Daphne, I have only but tonight to spend here in Hasting. ”
” Where will you be leaving to? ” Confused Daphne asked.
” Maidenstone, Daphne, I will be leaving to Maidenstone by tomorrow. ” She answered.
” Has Lord Luxor arrived? ” She asked.
” No, but tonight he will be in the castle. I can’t wait for him. I can’t wait to look at his face. ”
