Chapter 94 :- In the belly of the beast

After successfully escaping the coven before getting caught in Evlyn’s explosion, Ebinoluwa and her friends converge at her parent’s house telling Chris and Morenike what had went down at the place. Shortly after Ebinoluwa’s arrival into the house Rose, Aunt Jezebel, and other family members appear into the house to discuss their plans to rescue Christen from Evlyn. However, their efforts to come up with a plan was met with some little complications.

Aunt Jezebel ➡ We need to find Christen and save her. I can’t believe she did this.
.

Ebinoluwa ➡ Neither do I. Mom would never do such a thing.
.

Rose ➡ Little girl! I was there and I know what I saw. Your mother is a witch, don’t forget and she’s not perfect. Nobody is. I couldn’t believe it either but the Christen you know and love is gone.
.

Ebinoluwa ➡ So what? You’re saying we should let her be!?
.

Rose ➡ We barely stood a chance against Evlyn and now you want to go straight to the lion’s den? Besides we don’t even know where that is.
.

Aunt Jezebel ➡ Where’s Riley? He should be at home by now.
.

Oliver ➡ He’s still out there, I think.
.

Lionel ➡ You think? That’s my brother you’re talking about! What if something bad happens to him.
.

Oliver ➡ Don’t use that tone with me! I lost my own sister. There’s a high chance that Riley is out there.
.

Ebinoluwa ➡ Instead of us talking, let’s get out there and find Evlyn’s lair so that we can save mom.
.

Aunt Jezebel ➡ I’m sorry Ebinoluwa, even if we find her, who’s to say that she hasn’t turned. Rose said she acted on her own will, so everything is now in her hands.
.

Ebinoluwa ➡ This is absurd. So you’re just going to let her be? I’m disappointed in all of you.
.

After that statement, Ebinoluwa walks out of the house and heads straight to the Iroko tree. Rotimi as usual follows her to make sure she doesn’t do anything rash. After reaching near the Iroko tree, Rotimi tries to comfort Ebinoluwa but all he gets is hostility.

Rotimi ➡ Babe. It’s going to be okay..
.

Ebinoluwa ➡ DON’T.. talk to me right now okay? This is all your fault. If you had allowed me to rescue my mom when I had the chance, none of this would have happened.

Rotimi ➡ That’s not fair. You know it’s not fair. You’re not being fair.
.

Ebinoluwa ➡ I don’t care. Just go. Your presence annoys me.
.

Rotimi ➡ Fine. Suit yourself. (walks away)
.

Shortly after Rotimi left, TOK takes his full form and begins to talk to Ebinoluwa about her attitude. Despite not wanting to listen what the ancient tree had to say, the young witch had no choice but to do so.

TOK ➡ You were harsh on the half breed.
.

Ebinoluwa ➡ This doesn’t concern you!
.

TOK ➡ Blaming him for your mother’s actions is unfair.
.

Ebinoluwa ➡ I’m not in the mood for a lecture..
.

TOK ➡ But you’ll listen all the same!
.

Ebinoluwa ➡ You’re not my father.
.

TOK ➡ No, but you’re the one overreacting.
.

Ebinoluwa ➡ What am I supposed to do? My own mom is now in league with Evlyn! It’s just too much for me to take in.

TOK ➡ Well, it’s not the end of the world.
.

Ebinoluwa ➡ Look! Trying to calm me down won’t work cause I saw my mother do something that she had swore to herself never to do. How would dad react if he found out what she did?

TOK ➡ You’re taking this too hard on yourself. Everyone is entitled to their choices even your own mother. I’ve known Christen ever since she was little and I know what she’s capable of. Just because she did something bad doesn’t mean she’s a better person.

Ebinoluwa ➡ You’re honestly not helping.
.

TOK ➡ Christen has always been overprotective of whatever she cherishes. In fact, there was this time she nearly went too far to protect a couple of rodents from hunters.

Ebinoluwa ➡ What happened?
.

TOK ➡ It was in the year 1910 a
.

Ebinoluwa ➡ Wait… 1910?
.

TOK ➡ Why are you so surprised? Don’t you know that your mom is 2½ centuries years old?
.

Ebinoluwa ➡ I know.. But she never told me the exact date she was born.. 1910? Jesus Christ! How old was she then?
.

TOK ➡ 140yrs but by that period she looked like an 14yr old.

Ebinoluwa ➡ Continue.

TOK ➡ Yes.. In that year 1910, some group of hunters came here to hunt for pleasure, but before they could start killing rodents and animals unnecessarily your mother arrived. She casted a spell on the whole forest making every animal to go rapid on the hunters.. It was a horrible sight, the hunters barely made it out in one piece. Since then, nobody ever comes into this forest to hunt.

Ebinoluwa ➡ What’s the point of this whole story?
.

TOK ➡ I’m just showing you the side of your mother you never knew. She’s not a bad witch but she can be one if it means protecting the ones she loves.. Christen didn’t join Evlyn because she wants to, she did so that she can prevent the inevitable.
.

Ebinoluwa ➡ But killing people isn’t right.
.

TOK ➡ Believe me child, the end of the humans is coming. They’re the architect of their own doom. Their very existence in this world is a disease and their shortcomings outweighs their achievements. I’ve lived for so long and I’m telling you that, the humans are always making things worst. I’m not supporting Evlyn but they’re the ones giving her all the tools she needs for her plans.

Ebinoluwa ➡ I never told you anything about Evlyn’s plan? How do you know?
.

TOK ➡ I read your mind.
.

Ebinoluwa ➡ Oh.
.

TOK ➡ So what’s it’s going to be? Kill the humans to prevent Evlyn from carrying out her plan or facing the inevitable?
.

Ebinoluwa ➡ I am not commiting genocide!
.

TOK ➡ Well child, prepare for the inevitable.
.

Shortly after that statement, TOK transforms himself back into an Iroko tree and immediately after that, Morenike appears gasping for breath as she tries to speak.

Ebinoluwa ➡ Morenike.. Ki lo shele?
.

Morenike ➡ You’re needed back at the house. We have a visitor.

Years ago during my teenage years, I used hear stories from mother about the miraculous ordeals the prophets went through and the one that fascinated me the most was about David and Goliath. For a disbeliever who was said to be a giant, it would seem like he would be unstoppable but thanks to God’s wonders, he was taken down by a boy with a mere stone. A miracle of this magnitude was truly one of a kind and a remind that no matter how powerful evil is, it can be taken down even by a toothpick if God wills it. However having such miracle by my side would truly make my situation less harder than it is.

Presently, here I am in Evlyn’s fortress fighting and running for my live. I had stepped into the valley of death and the odds weren’t in my favour. Apart from being overpowered, I was also greatly outnumbered. Despite my efforts to try to repel these evil supernatural beings, they kept coming and coming at me relentlessly. My biggest problem were the demons, they were incredibly fast and brutally strong and without the lightning machete in my hands, I would have been long dead.
Xeira who was the one leading the charge went berserk unleashing her powers like never before, she wanted to kill me so badly but unfortunately for her and others, their magic didn’t work on me and it really made them mad. Thanks to my teleportation, I was able to keep out of their reach for a while but it wasn’t long before one demon named Oba struck me down hard with a powerful punch. It was devastating that my mask broke and so did the bones of my face. Luckily, my healing abilities adjusted my face in no time.

Xeira ➡ (laughs) Good job Oba! Did you really think you can prevail, huh Riley? Did you honestly think that you could win?
.

Riley ➡ No but even if I’m going to die, the least I could do is take off your head.
.

Xeira ➡ I see the beating I gave you wasn’t enough.
.

Riley ➡ You got lucky. This time around I’m going to humiliate you before I end you.
.

Xeira ➡ (yells angrily) YOU THINK YOU CAN BEAT ME?
.

Riley ➡ Of course. Let’s fight one on one before everyone unless you’re afraid.
.

Xeira flinched with rage as I said that, her face was boiling with so much anger as if she was going to explode. Just as I hoped for, Xeira accepted my offer and ordered nobody to interfere.
.

Xeira ➡ Fine. I accept your challenge. I will gladly kill you and mutilate your corpse.. No.. I’m going to torture you over and over until you beg me to end your pathetic life. Prepare to die human.
.

People say that overconfidence leads to immediately downfall. I was so sure that I could beat Xeira that I lured her into fighting me believing that I knew how she fights but little did I realize that she had plenty of deadly moves in her arsenal. After taking our stance, Xeira clouded her body with her magic and then let off some kind of large energy burst that shook the entire fortress. In that moment, my knees began to tremble steadily, sweat too was beginning to gather on my forehead. The kind of sinister vibe Xeira was letting off was scary and it began to make me think if challenging her was a good idea.
Suddenly in that moment, Xeira charged towards me with incredible speed and tried to punch me. I dodged her blow and grabbed her hand trying to swing her over but then something unexpected occurred. As I tried swinging Xeira, I felt his heavy intensity all around her making impossible for me to lift her.

Xeira ➡ What’s the matter Riley? Am I too heavy for you to carry? Time to feel the power of the sea.
.

In that moment, Xeira swung her right leg and kicked the side of my ribs. My ribs broke as soon as Xeira’s leg connected. I held her leg trying my best to throw her off her feet but once again, Xeira outsmarted me by using her other leg on my chest. The impact of her second kick sent me flying and crash hard on the fortress walls.
Seeing that I was no match to Xeira in physical combat, I decided to use my machete to finish her off. Realizing that I was about to reach out for my machete, Xeira intercepted me by transforming her body into a massive pool of water. It was like watching a river come to life, the water was quite lot and enough to clear off a small neighborhood. After that transformation, Xeira came at me like a tidal wave trying to swallow me. Dodging her wasn’t easy especially not when she was extending her watery body trying to grab hold of me.
Frustrated by the fact that she couldn’t reach me, Xeira then transformed herself again into a 20foot sea monster. Half of her body was that of a sea snake and the other half of her took the shape of a monstrous mermaid form. Her skin was covered in scales, her teeth was like that of a piranha and her number of her eyes were now four. Behind all that beauty of her was an evil ugliness beyond comprehension.

Riley ➡ I always knew you were ugly in the inside.
.

Xeira ➡ (monstrous voice) Enough! DIE!!!
.

At first, I thought I could see Xeira coming but then she suddenly disappeared,… No… She came at me so fast that I couldn’t see her, all I felt was the instant zip of movement. Luckily for me, I was able to sense Xeira before she could strike me from behind but I couldn’t dodge her not completely. Despite blocking Xeira’s attack with my hands, I was sent flying across the fortress but I managed to land on my feet. However before I could prepare myself, Xeira came at me again but this time with her mouth wide open trying to bite off my head. I had to hold her neck so that I bite wouldn’t reach me, she pinned me down brutally trying to squeeze me to death. Xeira’s strength was much more incredible than it was moments ago and my own strength was barely keeping up.

Eventually, I managed to escape Xeira’s clutches by teleporting straight to my machete. Without hesitation, I brought out the machete and swung it immediately at Xeira who was already close to me but it turns out, she too had charged in with a powerful magic attack which imbued around her fist. As soon as Xeira’s fist and my machete clashed, a devastating shockwave bursted out and spread all over the fortress shaking it to it’s very core. Xeira and I were dispersed to different direction and we were both nearly incapacitated by the shockwave but unlike me, Xeira recovered in no time.

Xeira ➡ My fellow brethrens of darkness!!! Tonight we will shall feast, tonight we will shall dine and tonight we shall…..
.

In that moment, a deep silence befall the entire hall as everyone sensed a very dark presence in the atmosphere. Then all of a sudden, a loud but gentle footstep was heard coming out of a dark corridor not far from where Xeira was. As the footsteps got closer and closer, everyone held their breath waiting to see who it was and then a few seconds later, everyone gasped including myself as we saw who it was.
Here before our very eyes was Christen, her face was looked empty and dead not to mention intimidating. As she appeared before everyone, she looked left and right gently and then fixed her gaze on me without saying anything. I didn’t need anyone to tell me that something was wrong with my wife. That warmth and love I used to feel around her was gone, all I could sense was an empty cold dead feeling.

Xeira ➡ Well, well. What do we have here? If it isn’t Christen.
.

Riley ➡ Babe, are you okay? Christen.
.

Christen remained quiet and maintained her gaze upon me but it wasn’t long she surprised us all with a cruel laughter. Hearing her laugh like that made my spine chill and my heart beat with fear. It’s not that I was scared of her, it’s just that I was scared to see what she was becoming. After her laughter, Christen teleported right next to me and then hugged me from behind sucking my life force. I was utterly shocked that my reaction made Xeira and everyone in the fortress laugh with excitement.

Xeira ➡ Now this is what I’m talking about!! Finally, this witch has come to her senses. Everyone.. Let’s feast.
.

Christen ➡ NO!!! HE’S MINE TO FEED ON. MINE ALONE.
.

Ghoul ➡ Greedy b-tch! He was ours first.
.

In that moment sudden moment, Christen yanked the ghoul using telekinesis and then drained his life force instantly before everyone. Of course nobody was pleased by what they saw, Christen’s appetite was beginning to scare everyone except the demons.
.

Riley ➡ Christen, what happened to you?
.

Christen ➡ Sorry honey, I just found a new source of nourishment and yours is just incredible.
.

Xeira ➡ This is insane! You’re cannibalizing on your own kind?
.

Christen ➡ Nature feeds on all. I’m on top of the food chain and I’m the predator now.
.

In that moment, Christen unleashed a powerful spell in the fortress which allowed her to suck everyone’s life force in it from any direction. The demons who weren’t affected by this tried to leave but Christen captured them all using tree branches which came into the fortress from all directions and then held the demons coiling them like snakes. Before the demons could break free from their bonds, Christen casted a binding spell that made very impossible for the demons to escape. The other creatures who saw that they were going to be robbed of their lives escaped. Some succeeded but some didn’t make it in time.
As Christen consumed more and more life force, she grew stronger and her spells became more powerful. Xeira who saw the threat Christen posed to them decided to kill her and she wasted no time in making her move. Using her powerful sonic screams, Xeira tried to unleash it on Christen but before that could happen, one of the tree branches coiled her throat preventing her from doing so.

Xeira ➡ I knew I should have killed you the moment you walked in.
.

Christen ➡ Maybe you should have. Now I’m going to break your neck and feed your body to my maggots.
.

Xeira ➡ B-tch!!! As if I’d let that happen.
.

Within a blink of an eye, Xeira’s body instantly turned into a massive pool of water but instead of attacking Christen, she took off destroying all the pillars that held the fortress. Before long, the fortress began to crumble upon our heads but the tree branches that Christen summoned prevented the fortress to crush us.
.

Christen ➡ Oh honey.. Your life force just keep coming. It’s incredible.
.

Riley ➡ Please Christen.. Stop.
.

Christen ➡ What?
.

Riley ➡ I said… STOP!!!
.

Christen released me immediately after that outburst and for some reason, she was back to her senses. After realizing what she had done, Christen became horrified. In that moment, she wanted to reach out and touch me but I moved away from her. Christen wasn’t pleased by this and it made her bitter.

Christen ➡ Honey. Please.. I
.

Riley ➡ Christen… don’t.
.

Christen ➡ Riley please..
.

Riley ➡ What happened?
.

Christen ➡ I don’t know what came over me.. Please you have to understand..
.

Riley ➡ Understand what? That my wife is cannibalizing monster! Tell me, did you feed on any humans?
.

Christen said nothing after I asked her that question. Her silence alone indicated that she did fed on humans. I was angry with her but I couldn’t despite her. There has to be a reason, Christen wouldn’t just start feeding on humans just like that.
.

Riley ➡ Christen, this has to stop. Okay? It has to stop.
.

Christen stared at me awkwardly at first and then bursted out laughing viciously. I was so shocked that I was speechless. What devil tainted my lovely wife with evil? This wasn’t the Christen I fell in love with, this was a total opposite of her.
.

Christen ➡ Stop? You want me to stop!? Never! You hear me!? Never!
.

Riley ➡ Christen. This is insane. This isn’t you.
.

Christen ➡ Oh it is. I just upgraded and if you don’t like what you see. Get lost.
.

Riley ➡ Christen.
.

Christen ➡ I’m a witch and whatever I say goes. I thought you were supposed to love me despite my setbacks and problems but I see now you just want me to be normal like a human. If I’m too much for you, you can leave, I don’t care.
.

Without uttering any word. I was sad, heartbroken and mad. I love Christen even as she is now but how can I live with her like this? I can’t sit and watch her kill unnecessarily. Rose wasn’t this bad at least she’s got control but Christen is just a loose cannon.
For a moment there, I thought Christen was serious but then before I could leave the fortress, something hit me back hard on the back and it sent me flying and crashing on the ground and as I rose up. I saw Christen looking mad.

Riley ➡ What’s the meaning of this?
.

Christen ➡ So you’re just going to leave? Don’t I matter you to anymore? So you were just going to give up on me?
.

Riley ➡ You’re insane Christen. I’m disappointed in you.
.

Christen ➡ HOW DARE YOU? you will pay for saying that to me.
.

In that moment, Christen fired a powerful blast of lightning at me. I quickly dodged and reached out for my machete but then I realized the metal was cracked probably from it’s collision with Xeira’s fist. After the first shot, Christen fired another lightning blast more powerful than the first one. I wanted to teach her a lesson but I couldn’t. She’s my wife so I decided to block.
Seeing that I blocked her lightning blast with the machete, Christen increased the power of the lightning as she did that, the crack on the machete began to expand.

Riley ➡ Christen… Stop!
.

Christen ➡ Face me coward..
.

Riley ➡ Stop…. You’re going to kill us bot….
.

Before I could finish my statement, the machete cracked completely giving out a powerful explosion and a shockwave that incinerated the fortress to dust. The sky boomed with lightning several times before it stopped and after that, all was quiet.
