(Surgery)

Payton’s POV

‘No you just can’t be serious!! You’re going to die?! You’re clearly lying!!’..i cried out and Mr Anderson smiled softly


‘I am saying the truth Jasmine and i want you to keep this between us..I..I have pneumonia and it has gotten to a stage which i can’t be cured and that’s why i came back Payton.I only have a week or two to live and before i die I want to do something for my son to make up for my past mistakes.I can’t take back all the pain and beatings Payton but i can die knowing that i saved my son’s life’..He said and with pure instinct I went into his arms and hugged him like a daughter would


‘Brody would be devastated Mr Anderson,you just came back into his life and in a week or two you’re leaving?? Please we could save you along side with your son’..i whimpered and he smiled.

‘My kidney is the only unaffected part of it Payton and that’s why I want to donate it to Brody.He’s a strong boy and I hope he forgives me when i eventually die.He’s going to be shattered yes i know that but he has you doesn’t he?? Take it as a favor from a dying man Payton —Never leave my son for anything in the world i beg of you’..He said and I nodded


‘I would never leave him but I think you should tell him before the surgery’..I suggested..

‘No my dear,I don’t think so but I feel great lifting that burden off my chest..please..please Payton no one must know about this’..

Brody’s POV

‘Knock knock’..i heard mom say and I turned around


‘Mom??’
I muttered under mu breath..

‘You’re hurting yourself Brody forgive him’..She said pursing her l-ips and I scoffed


‘Please not again mom I’m really weak’..

‘Yeah cause you’re killing yourself!! Your surgery is tonight Brody!!’..

‘Mom?!’..

‘What??’..

‘I’m not letting dad..I’m not letting that man give me his kidney!!’..i said in a fit to yell but what came out was a squeak..

‘I won’t let you be blinded by hate to see what’s good for you Brody!! I won’t let you go through the same path i did!!’..She yelled..

‘Gimme a break you’re not the one on the hospital bed!!’..

‘Yeah but i almost died from the drinking and the drugs!! Brody look I can’t forgive your father for what he did to us but he’s apologetic enough?? He looks so frail and thin and to make things right he wants to donate his kidney’..She said..

‘Yeah because he wants money’..i retorted..

‘No because he loves you’..Someone said and mom and I turned around only to see Payton standing by the doorway looking like she’s been I tears


‘Your father really loves you and the sooner you realize that the better!! Fine he did a lot of stupid things in the past but he’s here isn’t he?! So what if he took a lot of time but he’s still here!!! So what if he broke your mom’s heart he’s back Brody!!! I never got to meet my own father?! I never knew him in fact and i would trade places with you right now to be with my father!!! He may not be even alive Brody I’m not saying he’s going to die but cut the man some slack!?’..SHE CRIED OUT


I stared at mom and then stared back at her and sighed deeply..

‘Okay let’s get set for surgery shall we??’..

(A new beginning)

Payton’s POV

Two Weeks later

.

‘Payton can you please tell the wh0le class what you’re thinking??’..Mrs Henshaw asked and I jolted from my thoughts immediately


‘Uhhhh well no..nothing’..i stuttered and the when class bursted into laughter.She sighed deeply and dropped a note on my desk and when I looked at it i almost yelled


A C??


I got a C in math??..

‘Yes i know what you’re thinking Payton.How could you get a C math?? Well that’s because you’ve not been really paying attention to class ever since Brody Anderson slipped into coma’..She said and walked out of the class.I withdrew into my arms and bursted into hot tears not even caring about what the rest of the class had to say about me


It’s been two weeks since Brody’s surgery and he hasn’t woken up.The doctors say he’s perfectly fine and that his org-ns are taking time to heal but still it’s so frustrating trying to talk to him and you know he’s not listening..

‘Payton Carlson my office now!!’..i heard Principal Terian say from the speaker and gulped hérd..

‘I’m here Principal Terian’..i said as i opened the door of the office


‘Good you’re here please sit’
He said with a serious note in his voice and i did as i was told


‘Now it has come to my notice that there has been a drastic slip in your grades Payton.You were an ‘A’ student and now you’re just the ‘D’ or ‘C’ student.You don’t pay attention in class,you’re always tardy in school,you fall asleep in every given opportunity and part of your grant means you have to excel and if you continue with this lackadaisical attitude of yours then I’ll have no other choice but to force you to drop out’..He said and i nodded


‘I
I..I’ll do my best sir’..I stuttered with tears welling up in my eyes


‘Great now you can leave my office’..he ordered and i stood up immediately to leave..

‘Payton??’..He called again


‘Sir??’..

‘He’s awake now’..He replied


‘I..I’m sorry what??’..

‘He’s awake,Brody Anderson is awake’..He said and at that momenr there was like a ray of hope in my life


‘Thank you sir!!!’..i squealed for joy and he smiled..

‘Yeah and Oh you can leave for the hospital Mrs Anderson has requested your presence’..

‘Yes sir I..I won’t disappoint sir’..i said smiling so broadly and he nodded in approval.I grabbed my bag and ran outside the school not even saying goodbye to Serani who was calling out my name

At the Hospital

‘Brody??’..i said with my eyes half closed at the figure on the bed


‘Who are you??’..he asked and i gasped loudly


‘You
you don’t remember me??’..

‘Of course i remember you..you’re the best thing that’s ever happened to me since highschool’..He replied and i chuckled loudly k-ssing him hérd on the mouth


’A new beginning??’..

‘A new beginning’..i replied and hugged him lightly

Brody’s POV

A month later

Every thing turned back to normal except for one thing —Dad.Ever since the surgery I haven’t set eyes on him and whenever I ask mom about it she just flinches and bursts into tears


‘Hey’..Payton said as she sat next to me in the cafeteria..

‘Hi’..I replied..

‘You shouldn’t be eating spicy foods and you know that pretty well’..She said and i frowned at the hot sauce next to me


‘It isn’t mine it’s Cooper’s’..

‘Liar’..

‘Noob’..

‘Bad boy’..

‘Nerd’..

We both continued calling each other names until we bursted into laughter and that’s when Nicole ran in,side the cafeteria and pasted something on the lunch board.Everyone rushed over to where it was and in a minute girls began shrieking and boys began smiling


‘What are they so perked up about??’..I asked..

‘I don’t know I’ll go check it out’..Payton replied went over to the board.She stretched her neck to see and i s₱0tted Cooper coming over with a paper


‘Hey man check this out’..He said and when I looked down at the paper i frowned

‘I guess you’re taking Payton to Prom’..He said and I threw him a naughty glare and he shrugged in return


‘I’m not going’..I muttered..

‘What??’..

‘I said I’m not going —To prom I’m not going’..I replied again


‘Brody you can’t possibly be serious right?? How can you say you’re not going to Prom with Payton?!’..He exclaimed and I frowned deeply


‘I’ve said what I want to and it’s that I’m not going.You of all people should know that I despise Prom night Cooper!! The dresses,the tuxedos,the dancing,the promposals everything!! I hate Prom!!’..I said and he scoffed loudly


‘Yeah I know you hate Prom but not taking Payton is really messed up dude and besides it’s going to be the last Prom in highschool before we move to college and you say you’re not going?? It’s like your cancer messed up your head or something!!’


‘I’m just not going to Prom Cooper and that’s Final!! What’s it with everyone and


‘What are you guys talking about??’..Payton asked interrupting me..

‘Well we’re talking about Prom and from the looks of it Brody doesn’t want to go’..Cooper replied and I hid the wince in my breath..

‘Brody what is he talking about??’..She asked..

‘I’m not going to Prom.You can find someone else to go with you but I’m not going to Prom’..
