[Sad Odeya]

Ten minutes later, Odeya had finished her breakfast. Amanda carried her and they headed out to the car.

Desmond was preparing for work upstairs so he didn’t get to say ‘bye’ to Odeya.

Once Amanda and Odeya were in the car, Peter drove off.

“We don go late today o.” Peter said.
“Yes, it’s all my fault. I woke up late.” Amanda said.

Odeya glanced at her.
Amanda wondered why.

…………..

The drive to the school was in silence. Soon peter pulled into the school and looking at Odeya, she seem scared.
Amanda took her hand. “Don’t worry Deya. I’m here with you.” she said.

“You should be. You made me come to school today.” Odeya said.

Amanda smiled. “It’s great that came. Let’s go.”

Amanda carried her and they came down from the car and headed to the school.

“Bring me down.” Deya said. Amanda brought her down.

“I don’t like being carried.” she said.
“As if you knew. I dont like carrying people.” Amanda teased.

Odeya scoffed.

Soon, they were standing in front of the entrance to Odeya’s class.

“Are you ready?” Amanda asked.
Odeya breathed in then out. “Yes I guess.”

Amanda took her hand and they walked in.

The class was in silence and Amanda noticed that every child had a weary face including their form teacher.

Odeya noticed this too but then she noticed that Jeremy was absent. He isn’t in class.
That’s unlike him. Jeremy always comes very early to school. Everyday before her. She always meet him in school.

She felt the urge to ask about him but she couldn’t.

“Go on to your seat Deya.” Amanda said after handing Odeya her lunch box.

Odeya hesitantly walked to her desk and sat down. With her eyes on Jeremy’s empty seat.

Amanda walked to the Mrs Tonia.

“Is everything okay? Here seems to be too tensed and quiet.” Amanda asked.

Mrs Tonia glanced at Odeya who had her eyes still at Jeremy’s seat. She turned back to Amanda and exhaled then bringing low her voice, she answered.

“He had an accident with his driver this morning while coming to school.”

Amanda’s jaw dropped in shock and at that moment, Odeya sprang up from her seat as well, in tears.

Her seatmate had just broke the news to her at the same time Mrs Tonia broke it to Amanda.

“How is he? and his driver?” Amanda asked.

“They are both at Lovecare Hospital. It’s close by. ” Mrs Tonia said.

Amanda rushed to Odeya. Odeya’s tears were pouring out uncontrollably. Amanda hugged her. “It’s okay. Don’t cry. He’s fine OK.” she said.

“I want to see him. Please take me to him.” Odeya cried as all her classmates stared at her and Amanda.

For the first time, Odeya said ‘please’ to Amanda. Why did it have to be in such a situation?

“I want to see him please.” she said.

Amanda inhaled. “It’s okay. Let’s go.”
With that Amanda grabbed her hand and they hurried out of the class, back into the car.

Peter was confused.

“What is it nah? Did they tell her to go home?” Peter asked.

“Drive us to LoveCare Hospital please. She said it’s close to the school.” Amanda said.

“Ehen, I know the hospital but why we dey go there? What is the problem?” Peter asked.

“Just take us there and quit asking questions!!” Odeya yelled.

Peter shrugged and started the car and soon, they were heading to Lovecare hospital.

Amanda cuddled Odeya.

“It’s okay. Don’t cry. I’m sure he’s alright OK.”

‘He? What is happening?’ Peter wondered.

Soon, peter drove into the big hospital and pulled to the parking lot.

“We’ve arrived. Come on.” Amanda said and opened the door, she helped Odeya out of the car and they hurried into the hospital.

“I’m here to see the little boy and his driver that got involved in an accident and were brought here this morning.” Amanda told the attendant nurses.

“Their names?” One of the nurse asked.

Their names… Amanda looked at Odeya.

“Jeremy Adebayo but I don’t know his driver’s name.” Odeya said.

“Oh give me a minute please.” The nurse said and checked through a book.

“Ward 72 for both patients.” she said.

Amanda grabbed Odeya’s hand. “Thank you.” then she turned to Peter who stood, staring at them. “Please wait here for us. We will be back.” With that, they hurried towards the ward.

In a minute, they were standing at the door of ward 72.

Amanda grabbed the doorknob and slowly, she opened it and her eyes fell on a familiar face immediately they walked in.

Odeya removed her hand and rushed to where Jeremy lay on the bed in bandages and his eyes closed and taking a blood drip.

“Jeremy… Jeremy…wake up.” she called but a man was quick enough to hold her.

“It’s okay child. Be quiet. He’ll be fine.” The man who looked like both Jeremy and the familiar face said to Odeya.

The familiar face. Isn’t he the bicycle guy they met yesterday?
Yes he is.

Amanda remembered him now.

‘So Jeremy was actually the brother he mentioned.’

At the other side was a more bandaged man taking the same drip as Jeremy.

He must be the driver.

A woman too was in the ward, sitting beside Jeremy and staring at him with tearful eyes. She must be his mother.

[At Desmond’s office]

“…The contract should be sighed immediately Mr Fumi is back from Abuja…. A meeting would be held..” Desmond was saying but suddenly touched the side of his head.

‘..Gold. Gold…can you stop coming to my mind for a moment. I want to concentrate on my work’ Desmond said within.

“Are you alright director?” Henry asked.

Desmond removed his hand from the side of his head. “Yes I am.”

Back at Lovecare hospital, two hours later, Amanda, Odeya and Jimi sat at the hospital lounge.

“…Thank God that it wasn’t worse than that. He will be fine as soon as possible.” Amanda said.

Jimi nodded. “I pray he will. And for Mr Lekan, he case seem worse. He will have to be in a wheel chair for many months or even a year. He was always careful when driving. This would be so hærd for his family.”

Odeya was in between them. She patted his hand.

Jimi took her hand and turned to her. “What you did today shows that you really like my brother. You couldn’t stay in school and you rushed down here to see him. You want to know something? My brother like you too. He liked you from the first day you became his classmate. He came home talking about a pretty new girl in class named Odeya.”

Odeya brought down her face twisted in sadness. “I was always being sassy to him. He told me severally that he hate me.” she said.

Jimi smiled. “No, he didn’t. It didn’t stop his likeness for you. He was always hoping you stop being sassy to him. He was also angry that you two became competitors but it didnt stop him from liking you. I’m sure if he wakes up and heard you came, he would be very happy.”

“Then can I stay until he wakes up?”

Amanda took her hand. “Of course not Deya. We have to leave soon.”

“Why?” Odeya asked..

“You can’t stay until he wakes up. He might wake up in the evening or in the night or even tomorrow. You have to go home.” Jimi said.

“I’m not going to do anything at home. I’d rather stay here until sunset. I want him to see me when he wake up.” Odeya said.

Amanda sighed.

“Your nanny is here too and she would wanna go home.” Jimi said.

“She’s my nanny and have to take care of me anywhere. She can’t leave. She would have to stay if I stay.” Odeya said.

“What about Peter?” Amanda asked her.

“He should leave and come back when we need him.” Odeya said.

Jimi and Amanda looked at themselves.

Amanda has no other choice than to stay.
“I would go tell him then. I would be back.” she said and headed out.

“Odeya… You surprise me alot. I’ve never seen a little girl like you.” Amanda chuckled.

She got to the car. Peter was sitting on the driver’s seat, listening to news.

She opened the passenger’s seat and went in.

“Ah ahn.. Where Odeya. I have been waiting for how many hours?” Peter said.

“She doesn’t want to leave yet. Her boyfriend got into an accident and she want to stay until he wakes up. We might call you in the evening.” Amanda said.

Peter laughed. “You say boyfriend? Odeya get boyfriend? Ha! Wonders shall never end. This small small children of this centuary.”

Amanda chuckled. “I will call you.” she said.

“Okay o.” Peter said.

Amanda got down from the car and Peter left immediately, besides he was so hungry. He will have to stop by at a restaurant and fill his stomach.

“About yesterday. It was nice that we met.” Jimi said to Odeya.

“Really? You almost hit me with your bicycle.” Odeya said.

“I did apologize over and over again.” Jimi said.

Odeya sniffed. ” Maybe it would have been better if it had hit me than Jeremy getting into a car accident. Maybe I should have let you hit me. I feel that if i had been hit by your bicycle, he wouldn’t have gotten into an accident.”

Jimi put his arm around her thus making her lay her head on his chest.

“Don’t say that again Deya. I don’t believe that. Jeremy got into an accident not because you didn’t get hit by my bicycle. Come on don’t think that.” he said.

Tears had gathered in her eyes and it didn’t take a minute for them to roll down her eyes.

“I want him to get up soon and come to school.” Deya said.
“He will.” Jimi said.

Amanda walked in and smiled when he saw the position Jimi and Deya were in.

She exhaled. “She is really sad.”

She walked to them and sat down beside Odeya.

Odeya sat up and turned to Amanda.

“I don’t wanna sit here, let’s go to Jeremy.” She said.

Amanda took her hand. “I would be sincere. I don’t want to be in there. I don’t like seeing sick people and I hate the smell of hospital.”

Odeya pulled her hand off. “Then I would be in there alone.” She said and got up. “His mom is still in there. So I won’t be alone.” she added.

Jimi smiled.

‘He’s never seen a girl like Odeya who cares so much about someone that she likes.’

Amanda stood up. “Let’s go.” she said.
Jimi stood up and together, they headed to the ward.

Mr Adebayo had left an hour ago. Mrs Adebayo was still sitting beside her son, holding his hand tenderly.

The trio walked in and Odeya walked to her.

“I would sit beside you ma’am.” Odeya said.

Mrs Adebayo looked at her. “Why?”

“Because I want to stay with Jeremy. I want him to see me when he wake up.” Odeya said.

Mrs Adebayo couldn’t hold back the smile that appeared on her face.

Hours Later, Amanda was carrying Sleeping Odeya as they sat at the ward.

Jimi left minutes ago to the restroom and Mrs Adebayo was making a call outside.

Amanda suddenly saw Jeremy’s eyelids shake then his finger moved.

“Is he waking up?” she wondered.

She remembered what Odeya had told her.

«Nanny, i feel sleepy and might sleep off.. If you notice Jeremy waking up, wake me up.»

Jeremy’s index finger moved again.
Then his eyelid began opening.

Amanda touched Odeya’s cheek. “Odeya, you have to wake up now. Odeya.. odeya.”

Odeya opened her eyes.

When they turned to Jeremy, his eyes were open.
He looked completely confused.

“Mom..Dad..” Waere the first people he mentioned. Then his eyes landed on Odeya.

Deya felt happy, that he got to see her when he woke up.

“Hi Jeremy, how are you feeling?” Odeya asked.

“I will be back. ” Amanda said and hurried out.

“Odeya..” Jeremy called.

“Hi Jeremy. It’s a relief that you are awake now.” Odeya said with a smile.

(Hours later🕐)

Odeya and Amanda were ready to go home. Desmond had called, demanding where they went to.
Amanda had told him that she would explain when they are back.

It was 6pm. There had stayed in the hospital all day.
Jeremy had woken up, slept again and woke up again… He had been so excited to see Odeya and guess what? Odeya had been telling him the folktales that Amanda told her.
Even in such condition, Odeya was happy that her wish of being Jeremy’s friend had come true.

“We are going leaving now.” Amanda said to Jimi, his mom and Jeremy.

Odeya wished they won’t but she has to go home.

“Thank you so much for being here with us. Thank you Odeya and Amanda. God bless you.” Mrs Adebayo said.

“Bless you too ma.” Amanda said.

“Thank you for staying with Jeremy. You were a great company to us today.” Jimi said.

“Odeya.” Jeremy called.
“Yes Jeremy.” Odeya answered.
“Thank you.” he said.

Odeya smiled. “Don’t mention. I’ll be here tomorrow to see you. For now, I gotta go.”

‘What, here again tomorrow?’ Amanda breathed in.

“Bye Jeremy. Bye Jeremy’s brother and bye ma’am.” Odeya said, waving at them.

“Bye.” Amanda said and pulled Odeya along and they headed out.

Amanda had called Peter and he was on his way already.

“Are you okay?” Amanda asked Odeya as she notice her face grow pale.

“I’m fine.” Odeya said.

Peter pulled into the hospital five minutes later and soon they were heading back home.

Soon, they pulled into the house and Amanda saw the car Desmond left to work with parked at home.

‘But why is he back from work so early?’ she wondered and it frightened her.

How would she explain to him about Odeya leaving school to be with a classmate in a hospital.

“Why’s my dad back so early.?” Odeya asked.

Amanda inhaled.

“Let’s go.”She said and carried Odeya down.

I.K rushed towards and standing in front of Amanda and Odeya, he shook his head.

“Oga done come back o – Boss is back” he said and scratched his head.

Amanda didn’t answer him but headed towards the house with Odeya in her arm.

“Aren’t I heavy?” Odeya asked.
“No, you don’t seem to be today.” Amanda said.
“Ah maybe cos I spent my day in a hospital.” Odeya said and Amanda placed her index finger on Odeya’s l-ips.

“You can’t tell your dad or I might get fired.” she said and removed her finger.

“What? Don’t be scared. I have him to deal with.” Odeya said.

“Such confident. How can you deal with your dad.” Amanda asked.

“Just watch.” Odeya said.

Amanda opened the door and walked into the sitting room.

She got a bit relieved that Odeya’s dad wasn’t in the sitting room.

“He must be upstairs. Come on, take me to my room, quickly.” Odeya said.

“Are you scared Deya?” Amanda asked.
“I don’t think. It wasn’t my intention to be.” Odeya said.

For the first time, Amanda saw fear in Odeya’s eyes.

Maybe she is being scared to tell her dad that she missed school to stay with a male classmate in the hospital.

Amanda turned towards upstairs, they had taken only few steps when they heard someone come out from the kitchen to the dinning.

“My dad?” Odeya whispered.
“It should be. I’m sure he had seen us already.” Amanda said.
“I’m not sure. From the dinning, it’s hærd to see who’s at the staircase” Odeya said.

“Honey, is that you??” A female voice said from the dinning and Amanda and Odeya’s eyes instantly met.

“Dinner is set.” the same voice said and Amanda had no idea what came over her, she saw herself rush down the staircase and soon, she was facing the fair looking lady in a yellow jumpsuit, fake long lashes and face beautified with makeup. l-ips full of red lip gloss and annoying nose ring.

Odeya was still in her arm but she didn’t care how heavy she was but who the hell the lady standing in front of her wearing the kitchen apron over her yellow jumpsuit is.

“Oh… You are back. Welcome Odeya. you look so so beautiful. I made dinner. Do you wanna change first before eating or you don’t mind eating now?” She said, smiling.

“Who are you and what are you doing here?” Odeya asked. “Put me down nanny.”

Amanda put her down and she walked closer to Gold.

‘Such gut’ Gold scoffed within.

“I’m Gold Benson. Your dad’s girlfriend. I wanted to see you so badly and that’s the reason why I’m here and again, I really wanna be here. You are so beautiful Odeya. I know we would be good friends.” Gold said with smiles.

‘What? Her dad’s girlfriend??’ Amanda felt her heart ache at that.

“My Dad’s girlfriend? Have you realized that you are in the wrong place?” Odeya said.

“Excuse?” Gold said, surprised.

“Get out of this house right now and never go close to my dad from now onwards. If you don’t wanna be in trouble.” Odeya warned.

Gold was shocked. Amanda was happy.
The room was tense.

“What’s happening?” That was Desmond’s voice as he climbed down the staircase.

Amanda’s heart skipped at his presence.

Gold rushed to him and took his hand. “Honey, your daughter. She’s being rude to me.” Gold said, pretending to be in tears.

Odeya scoffed and rushed to them and grabbed Gold’s arm… “Get your hand off my dad!”

“Odeya.. stop that.” Desmond said and removed odeya’s little hand from Gold’s arm.

“Come over here Deya.” he pulled her to his left.
“Don’t be rude to the lady that your dad’s love. You gotta love her too.”

“Dad you are joking…You and mom are gonna be together again, she can’t be here and I can never like her. Get out of this house lady! You look so annoying and irritating.”

“Odeya! Stop!!” Desmond half yelled.

Amanda gasped.
She had no idea that he can yell at his daughter.

“Leave us Amanda.” he said to her. Amanda felt her heart being pierced in several places as she walked the staircase.

Why’s she feeling this way.
She don’t like it.

“Dad I hate her and I can’t stand seeing her.” Odeya said and with that, she ran upstairs.

Desmond took Gold’s hands.

“I’m sorry about that. You don’t need to worry.. She’s generally rude.. She’ll get to be relaxed with you in no time.” he said to Gold.

“Really?” Gold asked.

She won’t stand the chance to be insulted by that runt. She just have to bear it for today.

“Yes baby,” Desmond said.

Gold smiled. “Come on then, sit and have your dinner.” she said.

“I have to call Odeya. I’ll be back in a jiffy.” he said.

“I don’t think she would want to eat my good.” Gold said.

“It’s okay. I will be right back.” he said and with that, he went upstairs.

Gold scoffed.

“Wonders shall never end. Look at that little thing. How dare she! Well shall see.”

……….

Amanda was in Odeya’s room, dressing her bed when Odeya opened the door and entered.

“I’m so annoyed with that. I’m so disappointed as well.” Odeya said.

Amanda exhaled.

“I will help you take off your school wears. You’ve been wearing it all day.” she said and proceeded to do so.

The door opened and Desmond walked in.

“Deya..” he called.

“Don’t call my name if she’s still in this house.” Odeya said.

Amanda faced Odeya’s shoes that she was untying the lace.

She don’t want to look at him. She felt like her heart is going to split into thousands of pieces if she do.

This isn’t supposed to be happening to her. She isn’t supposed to like her boss.
She is stupid… She’s an idiot for falling in love with her boss without knowing why.

No.. It’s not love. She doesn’t want to believe that she is in love with her boss.

She just have to focus on being a nanny to Odeya, get paid for her job and leave soon enough.

“Deya, please listen to me. She isn’t bad. She was dying to meet you. You can’t treat her this way. She loves you so much.” Desmond said.

“What about mom!” Odeya half yelled.

That was when Amanda looked up at Desmond and she could see how his expression changed. She couldn’t understand the expression well enough but it looked like he wasn’t expecting that and again, he didn’t want to hear that name.

But she wasn’t expecting him to look at her. Their eyes met and she quickly looked away.

Why did he look at her?
She get it.. He don’t want her to be here while they talk about Odeya’s mom.

“I..I will be back to dress your room and arrange your school uniform for tomorrow’s school.” Amanda said to Odeya and with that, she walked out and closed the door but why couldn’t she leave the door.

“Odeya, can you stop talking about your mom? I’m here for you and there’s someone who wanna be here for you as well. Please.. Come on, let’s go downstairs, you must be hungry.”

“I want my mom and I want you both back together.” Odeya said.

“Deya…”

Amanda walked away from the door and went into her room.

“Was it really Divorce?” Amanda asked herself.

It’s so obvious that it is.

‘What do I do about this?’ Amanda wondered.

“Whatever dad! I don’t want her here.. She gotta leave.” Odeya said. “..and about dinner, my nanny would make it for me.” Deya said.

Desmond sighed and stood up.

“I will call your nanny then.” he said and with that, he walked out and got to Amanda’s room.

He knocked and Amanda who was sitting at the edge of her bed sprang up.

‘Who’s that?’ she wondered.
Is it Odeya?

Amanda walked to the door and opening it, her heart jumped at the sight of Desmond.

Their eyes met again.

“S..sir?” She stammered and faced down.

“Go to Odeya..” Desmond said.

Amanda nodded.

He turned to leave but halted and turned back to Amanda who quickly faced down again.

“Are you okay?” he asked her.

“Huh.. Ye yes I am.” Amanda answered.

“I’d like to tell you something later.” he said.

‘Tell me something? What do he want to tell me?’ Amanda wondered.

“Ok okay sir.” she answered.

Desmond turned and left downstairs. Amanda came out and watched him until he disappeared out of the corridor.

She exhaled and hit her forehead.

“What is wrong with me… What what what… I have to end this.. He has a girlfriend. How can I even like him. He has a girlfriend while Odeya want her mom and him back together.. I don’t even have the slightest chance. He won’t even notice that I have some feeling for him. I’m such an idiot if I don’t end this feeling right away.” she said and walked into Odeya’s room to see her crying.

“What? Why are you crying?” Amanda said and rushed to Odeya.

“What’s wrong.. You don’t have to cry.” Amanda said, hugging Odeya.

“When I see other kids with their parents, both their mom and dad, I get envious and mad.” Odeya said amidst tears.

Amanda car-ssed her hair, not knowing what to say.

“Nanny, can you do something for me?” Odeya said.

“What’s that?” Amanda asked.

“Promise that you will do it.” Odeya said.

“What’s that.. Do I have to promise first?” Amanda said.

“Yes,” odeya said.

Amanda exhaled. “Okay then. I promise. What’s it?”

Odeya looked into her eyes. “Can you make my mom and dad get back together?”

Amanda got shocked.

“H..how I’m I supposed to do that?” she asked.

“Please do that for me.” Odeya said.
