❤Kayla’s POV❤️
.
“What’re you talking about, Jake?” I asked.
“I’m saying Melvin is deceiving you, he’s not what he appears to be” he said, his tone was with so much surety.
“And how do you know that?” I asked.
“Because Luke saw him at Kira’s party in an inhuman state”
“Luke? Wait, your friend?” I asked, refusing to panic.
“Yes and I believe everything he said. I mean just look at it, we were dating and doing just fine and then he appeared and everything went from great to tipsy-turvy with you following him around. Isn’t that just suspicious?” He asked.
“So you think he isn’t human cos I broke up with you?”
“Yes and he’s been making you follow him and-
“Jake, just stop it, okay? You know nothing about Melvin and I broke up with you willingly, Melvin isn’t possessing me as you claim so just cut it out” I said.
“Okay fine, you spend so much time with him, surely you must’ve noticed something unusual about him, something strange and inhuman. I know Luke isn’t lying to me, he’s someone I can easily read and if you try to fix the puzzle from when he appeared then you’ll believe me” he said and took my palms “I’m sure about this. I don’t think Melvin is any good for you, he might be into dark magic or something” he said with all epitome of seriousness.
I pulled my palm off his “you don’t know Melvin, Jake. It’s me who has been with him and I can tell you that Melvin isn’t a bad person and he’s not into any dark magic as you think, he’s plain human just like you and I” I said, and suddenly heard the bell.
“You should get those thoughts off your head, I appreciate that you’re looking out for me but I’m fine, so please just don’t go about with those crazy and untrue thoughts” I gave him a small smile and walked away..
I sighed out gently.. I really hope my words hit him somehow and he lets those thoughts of his go.

✏Melvin’s POV✏
.
I lifted my face from the book when Kay walked in, she sat and turned to me.
“Jake’s suspecting you” she said and my brows narrowed while I stared at her.
“Suspecting me?” I repeated and she nodded.
“Apparently, his friend saw your abnormal state at Kira’s party and Jake thinks you’re using some kind of magic and possessing me into staying with you” she said “He was pleading with me earlier to stay away from you” she said and my eyes w¡den.
“He doesn’t know I’m the beast, does he?” I asked in a whisper.
“He doesn’t, he only suspects that you’re strange. I’ve tried to persuade him into believing none of those but somehow I feel that, he won’t stop, at least not until he sees it himself. He only have a clue, no real proof so we just have to be extra careful from now” she said and I nodded.
I took in a deep breath to calm myself and tried to disrupt my thoughts from Kayla’s revelation, by reading the book.
I hope this ends as a hunch..

🍥Jake’s POV🍥

“There he is!” I pointed out to Luke who gave me a scared look.
“Jake, are you sure about this?” He asked and I nodded.
“I have a bad feeling about it”
I rolled my eyes at him.
“Can you stop being a baby, Luke. Don’t tell me it’s your first time using a knife” I said, getting angry.
“Well it’s my first time using it on someone” he said and I almost felt like smacking him.
“Well get your grips on, okay? It’s not like were going to kill or injure him, we’re just going to see if he truly isn’t human.. You can only keep acting like a chicken if you aren’t sure of what you saw that night” I said.
“I am, seriously Jake I’m not lying!”
“Then prove it! It’s just one stupid test for Pete’s sake, stop being such a baby!” I said, almost yelling.
“O-okay as long as we’re not harming him but are you sure this will work? I mean what if he catches us before we even begin! What if he kills us or uses magic to trap us or something?” Luke asked.
“That’s why were doing it right now dummy, when lunch break is still on and they’re people around.. He can’t possibly harm us in the presence of so many people” I explained, running a frustrated palm on my hair.
“But-
I quickly slipped the knife into his pocket and he stilled and stopped talking.
“We do this now or never!” I said and he nodded, still in fright.. “And you better not forget to push the start button”
I left him and walked up to Melvin who was now standing alone and holding the railing in the balcony.
“Hey Buddy!” I said, giving him a light tap on his shoulder as I stood beside him.
“Uh..um me?” He asked pointing to himself.
“Of course. Looks like Kay isn’t with you, I thought you both spend like every minute together” I said..
“Uh um well-
“Hey! Dodge!” I heard Luke scre-m and immediately I saw the knife pass me to Melvin, Luke obviously targeted it to him and before he could dodge, the knife hit him at the upper part of his hand, it sliced that part and fell off.. I glanced at him and realised disappointedly that he was bleeding and that the knife had actually hit him..
But..he was supposed to have sensed it and dodged right? It has to be how it’s done.. How come it hit him?!
He suddenly cried out in pain..
“Oh my.. I-I’m so sorry Melvin, I didn’t mean to injure you! It just slipped out of my hand!” Luke suddenly came and began pleading.
“Ahh..it’s okay” Melvin said, writhing in pain..
Luke slowly picked the knife up while I just stared at Melvin, trying to see if I could catch a glimpse of any inhuman or unusual action but he acted completely normal
“Melvin! Melvin are you okay?” Kayla suddenly rushed from wherever to Melvin, it was as if I was suddenly invisible cos she passed me without even sparing me a glance..
“I-I’m fine” he stuttered.
“What happened? Why are you bleeding?” She asked, holding him with so much worry and concern..
I felt my chest tighten with envy.
“It was an accident” He replied her, gro-ning.
“Stay still, let me help you in” she , holding him and I just couldn’t stand it anymore.
I walked out..

**Melvin’s POV**
.
Kayla helped me relax on the chair, I didn’t expect the cut to hurt this much..
Is this how much pain human experience from a simple cut.
“What happened?” Kayla asked, rolling the sleeve of my shirt up to view the cut.
“Jake actually wanted to test me” I said and she looked from the cut to me. “I think he asked his friend to throw a knife at me to probable see if I was human or something”
“What?” Kayla gasped.
“I sensed it before it could hit me, I knew it was coming to my direction so I let it hit me so he wouldn’t have any doubts” I said and gro-ned..
The pain was just too much..
“Seriously? I can’t believe Jake would go this far” she said.
“I just hope this makes him less suspicious” I said.
“Does it hurt a lot?” She asked and I nodded.
“Then we have to visit the nurse, come-on” I stood up and followed her.. Biting my lower lip and suppressing the pain.

\\Jake’s POV\\

I moved to the stairs and rested my elbow on the rail, my breathing rhyming with my furiousness.
Luke joined me, p-nting really hærd.
“Phew! I can’t believe I did that!” He sighed,. “I didn’t expect it to hit him”
I rolled my eyes at him. “We could’ve gotten something!” I said “Where’s the recorder?” I asked and gave it to me, still breathing hærd.
I opened it and tapped the play button, it started with a scene of me walking to Melvin and just as I reached him, a blank space appeared and immediately, it went dark and blank.. I heard Melvin gro-n and Luke’s voice but it was still blank..
I hit it severally.. “Why did it stop! Hey!” I hit it again but it didn’t come on.. I gave Luke a look.. And as Kayla’s voice came on, the video suddenly came on but Melvin was no longer in the picture. I could only see Luke and then it stopped playing.
“What the f-ck was that?!” Luke asked, giving me a frown.
“F-cking bullshit!” I let it drop from my palm and I used the stairs out of the building.
