CHAPTER 47…… 🇳🇬

IN THE EVENING..

“today I must say was the most stressful day of my life” Mira complained as she entered Kira’s car. Kira had already promised to drop her too as she couldn’t rely on Anna.

“What made it stressful?” Kira asked and giggled . She already knew the feeling of first day but Mira was acting like she was about to die.

Mira grabbed the chilled bottle water and gulped everything down in a second.
She wiped her mouth where water had dripped down from.

“I couldn’t grab a word they were saying. I thought am in the university and not junior high school. And I had to grabbed the backseat as the fronts were occupied” Mira lamented and rest her head on the car seat.

” It’s your fault for being late”

“No… It’s Anna’s. The girl has really been a pain in my neck. I wonder what I did to her” Mira answered.

” You could ask her” Kira suggested and Mira humphed.

” Worst suggestions ever Kira. In fact… I don’t want to talk about it” Mira concluded immediately and Kira sighed.

Every where went silent as Kira took a sharp turn.

“Where’s mom now?” Kira asked out of the blue. Mira knew she was referring to her mom but she had no answer to give her.

“I …. I…. Don’t know” she sat upright.
“I haven’t hear from her yet”

“Where did you say she was receiving treatment? ” Kira asked.

” In India. ”

” For how long? ”

” I don’t know that too”

” Hmmm”..

” What’s that for? ” Mira asked

” Do you seriously trust this people? I mean how sure are you that they have your mom? What if they don’t? ” Kira reasoned and Mira went silent.

After much thought she spoke… ” I believe in Ezekiel. I don’t think he’s lying to me. I… I have to believe him”

“You don’t have to. You need proves that he truly knows where your mom is” Kira said and took another turn. Soon she parked in front of the huge black gate.

“Thank you so much Kira” Mira said and got down.

“Your my best friend. This is the least I could do. I’ll be here to pick you up tomorrow” she said and Mira nodded.

” And remember what I said” Kira reminded and drove off.
As soon as the gate was opened for Mira, she entered to see Anna getting down from the car. It seems she had just arrived now.

Anna saw Mira and smirked. She was about entering in,side when Mira stopped her.

“You left me this morning Anna” Mira gritted her teeth.

“You were late Mira” Anna fiery eyes shot back. “It’s not my fault. I couldn’t be late because of you”

“I know your the one who cause me to be late” Anna smirked upon hearing that. The guard even though they acted as though they weren’t listening, they were in fact hearing every word.

“Does it matter”

“How could you?” Mira asked furious.

” For as long as you will stay in this house, I’ll make it a living hell for you” Anna remarked and walked in,side.

” God, this can’t be happening!! ”

” Who were you talking to and where did you get that phone from? ” A thick voice asked and Sophie turned around startled to see that someone was in her room without her knowing.

She faced the man who had interrogated her to roll up her sleeves which would have revealed something that would destroy her entire mission.

“It’s … It’s… My aunt’s own” she stammered referring to Mabel. She didn’t stammer cause she was scared but she had to make him believe she was.

“Really?” He asked not sounding convinced at all.
” Show me the phone then” he demanded.

“Why?” Sophoe asked startled by his demand. She quickly hid the phone behind her back. “You have no right to”

“Actually I do. And besides, if thats a new phone then am wondering how you already have a number saved in it … So quickly” he explained with a straight face.

” Who said it’s a new phone?!” ..

“Didn’t you say it’s for your aunt. I believe she must have gotten a brand new one for you” he said

“She didn’t just buy it for me recently. I’ve had it. For more than a month” she explained but still Lucas didn’t believe it.

“Do you think am a fool?” Lucas asked and took little steps to her while she walked back. He kept on coming and she kept on going till her back hits the wall.

Soon he cover the distance between them leaving only a few inches apart.

‘what the hell is he doing? ‘ Sophie thought in her mind surprised. She didn’t even know how she found herself in this compromising position with the friend of their enemy.

Lucas examined her looks from her eyes to her l-ips before bringing his gaze back to her eyes.
Sophie was lost staring at his features that she didn’t realize when he snatched the Phone from her hand.

“Heyy.. what are you doing?” Sophie asked this time, really scared. He can’t find out what’s in the phone. Both her boss and Lockharts will Kill her if he does.

“What’s going on here?” Mabel voice was heard and both Lucas and Sophie turned to face the door.

Mabel held in her hand, the maid uniform and blanket for Sophie. She walked in and stood in between them.

“Nothing …. I was just…” Lucas tried to explained but…

” Why are you troubling my niece Lucas?” Mabel demanded.

‘lucas, so that’s his name’ Sophie thought and seeing his distracted, she quickly snatched her phone back.

“He took my phone aunt” Sophie reported and Mabel shot a glare at Lucas.

” I was just …. I wanted to confirm something” Lucas tried to explain himself.

” I thought Ezekiel had said you should let her be Lucas?” Mabel asked rhetorically but of course,Lucas must attempt answering.

“But …”

“No buts.” Mabel immediately cuts in. Lucas at last gave up. He glared at Sophie who only smirked and left.

“Don’t mind him dear. He isn’t always like this. He just have trust issues” Mabel Said and kept everything she had in her hand on the bed.

” He sure does” Sophie muttered to herself.

“Here, your uniform and blanket to sleep. Change into your uniform and I’ll be back to take you to meet Mr and Mrs Lockhart” Sophie nodded and Mabel left”

Mira quickly took her bath and headed for Isabella’s room. Isabella was fast asleep. She looked at the Angel’s pretty face. Her fast but growing hair was slightly covering her face. She gently pushed the hair away but then Isabella’s eyes open.
Mira was taken aback but then seeing Isabella wide smile, she smiled too and carried Isabella from her crib..

She tickled Isabella alittle. Hearing her giggles brought peace to her mind. She soon forgot everything that happened today. Then Isabella yawned.

“You must be hungry aren’t you?” Mira asked even though she still the answer. Isabella replied with her baby talks and giggled Making Mira smile more.

“Come on. Let’s make you something to eat”
She adjusted Isabella in her arms and went ahead to prepare her food

After feeding her and making her burp, she placed Isabella down for a nap. Saying her good night, she left Isabella room for the dinning room.
It was dinner time already. Mira arrived just in time before Mrs Lockhart. But then it was only the three of them in the dinning: Mira, Anna and Mrs Lockhart.

‘where’s Ezekiel?’ Mira asked herself. Somehow, it felt weird that Ezekiel wasn’t here in the dinning. It made her feel quite uncomfortable.

“How was your first day in university Anna?” Mira heard Mrs Lockhart asked but she just kept her head down looking at her food.

If I mom was with her,she too would have asked her how school was. But…

Mira tried very hærd to blink the tears that were threatening to fall back in.

“It was good mom. Thanks for asking” Anna responded with a wide smile.

” What about you Mira?” Mrs Lockhart asked which shocked Mira. She wasn’t expecting Mrs lockhart to care to ask.

Anna face turned sour when her mom asked Mira too. She scoffed quietly and continued with her food.

“It was ….nice” Mira hesitated to say. Remembering everything that had happened today, she couldn’t just say everything was good and fine.

Mrs Lockhart smiled and nodded and the rest of the dinner went peacefully.

Half past nine and Ezekiel still wasn’t back . Mira didn’t know why but she felt worried and anxious that he wasn’t back. It made her feel a sick in her guts. She had been waiting for him after dinner. She needed to ask about her mom and yet… He wasn’t back.

“What If something bad had happened to him? ” Mira wondered. Considering the situations that has been happening, it was obvious that he had enemies.

‘what if they have gotten him? ”

‘what if they are torturing him?’

‘what if he’s in big trouble and can’t get out of it? ‘

‘no Mira. It’s impossible. He has guards with him. He’s perfectly fine’. Mira tried to convince herself otherwise from what her head was telling her.

Soon, she heard a the gate opening, she rushed out of her room and stood in the passage near the stairs where Mrs Lockhart had slipped from.

She watched as Ezekiel hurried in,side and climb the stairs but he froze in his steps when he saw mira in her red night gown.

“Mira,… What… What are you doing awake by his time? ” Ezekiel asked obviously surprised

” I … I.. wanted to talk to you” she paused but Ezekiel nodded urging her to continue.” It’s … About my mom” although Mira didn’t see or notice it, Ezekiel stiffen.

” I mean, how is she doing? You haven’t told me anything about her yet and……”

“Sir” Lucas who just walked up the stairs interrupted Mira.

“Mr Lockhart is waiting for us. I believe what the miss has to say can wait” Lucas said and Ezekiel nodded.

” Mira. Can we discuss this some other time? ” He said and Mira nodded and Ezekiel left.

” Listen Mira. As you can see, Ezekiel has a lot already going on. So I would appreciate it if you don’t bring up any topic that would distract him” Lucas walked up to Mira and said. Mira just stared at him, unable to say anything.

” Its for your own good and his”
