Gwennie’s POV

“Listen cupcake.. We’re not lovers OK, miss Gwen is just my friend” Alex said to Anne.

OK that was close..

“But there’s nothing wrong with you both being lovers, right granny? ” she faced the older woman who had a wide eyes.

“Joanne!” She scolded.

“That’s impossible!” Alex said with a stern look and I gulped down the lump that hanged in my throat…
“But she’s beautiful.. Right uncle?” She faced Alex with a childish look.

“Uh, I don’t know” he looked down and lifted his fork.

“You know what uncle?”

“What?”

“You s-ck at lying” she rolled her eyes while he shrugged.

“Miss Gwen” I slowly raised my head up, well I was nervous..

“Y-yes”

“Don’t you like my uncle?”

“Uhm.. No I d-don’t” I smiled nervously and looked at Alex whose eyes I noticed was on me, and it was but he quickly looked away when our eyes met.

“You don’t even have a teeny-weeny likeness for uncle? ” she pushed.

“Uh, of course I do,” his eye flew to me and it took a lot of dexterity from me, to look away. “As a friend” I added and I think I saw him smirk or maybe it was my imagination.

“But friends also become lovers.. Don’t they—

“Joanna” granny interjected “It’s wrong to talk during meals.. What did I tell you about it?” She sternly scolded.

“Yeah, I know.. It’s a bad habit” Joanne rolled her eyes after giving her granny a boring look.

“I’m sorry, but–

“No buts kiddo, you can but all you want after dinner” she cut her between her statement.

Seriously, I could k-ss granny right now.

“OK.. I’ll keep quiet now” she said and faced her meal while I faced mine.. But guess what, I already lost my appetite.

Well, the remaining minutes we spent having dinner was filled with quietness, thanks to granny for the scolding and the meal, which I forgot to tell you was super delicious.. Just like mom’s.

We had just rounded off dinner and Anne brought chocolate for pudding, well that was what she called it.. I had to bite my lower lip to keep my from laughing and I noticed Alex and granny did same too.

All the same, we had ‘pudding’ and trust Joanne, she talked all through it.. I was glad it wasn’t about Alexander and I becoming lovers..

OK, I know it’s crazy right?
Alex and I, lovers.. When we’re not even friends..

Jerk!

Well Joanne went back to talk about school and other activities that took place in a day.. She Also couldn’t stop boasting about how she’d be a big girl since She’ll be hitting six tomorrow and how many girls she’ll be older than..

She’s a blabber beak..!

Well after everything I had stood to go and Joanne let me after making me share a pinky swear that I’ll come visiting soon and she telling me how much she loved me than the bigger girl and really..
I couldn’t help but wonder who the bigger girl was.

Long story short, Alex had driven me home and had parked in front of my house.. He opened the door and I got down..

Good thing I could walk without limping or having to seek support from anything.. It’ll help lessen interrogative moment.

“Thanks” I muttered enough to his hearing and moved aside.

“Yeah,” he ran a Hand through his hair and gave me a look of contemplation. “I-I’m really sorry about today” he said and I smiled.

He’s nice right..or he’s acting nice.

“It’s OK, it’s not really your fault” I said.
Of course it’s his fault, my subconscious said.

“Does it still hurt a lot?”

“No, I can’t feel a single pain..the drugs and the soup helped a lot” I said.

“I’m glad they did” he smiled, and hey did I mention he looked good when he smiled.

“Me too,” I said “I’ll go ahead now”

“Yes, you should..besides you need rest,” he smiled again “Goodnight”

“Goodnight Alex” I reciprocated the smile.

“Take care of yourself” he moved into his car and I watched until he waved and drove off.
Taking in a mouthful of air, I moved to the porch, first sighting the front light ‘on’ I moved to the door, twisted the knob which let out a slight creak then moved in and closed the door behind me.

I moved further into the living and the sweet aroma of homemade sauce hit me..I looked forward and sighted my family in the dinning, obviously having dinner.

“Gwen!,” mom was the first to notice me and the rest turned while I moved toward them..

“Good evening mom, dad” I greeted.

“Evening honey..where are you coming from?”

“A friend’s house” I replied.

“You’re just in time for some sauce…sit” mom gestured.

“I’ll pass mom, I had too much at Jenny’s” I said.

“Too bad. I had left some for you” mom said.

“Mom, can I have hers?” Jerold stretched his arm

“Y–”

“No!” I swiftly grabbed the plate which had my sauce from mom. “You’re not taking a bite from my food” I gave him a glare.

“But honey, it’ll be a waste since you’re not going to eat it” mom said.

“I’ll store it in the refrigerator and have it for lunch tomorrow” I said.

“Suit yourself” Jerold faced his food.

“I’ll head up first,” I moved to mom and planted a light k-ss on her cheek “Goodnight mom”
I moved to dad too and bent to k-ss him–

“Oh My God, Gwen! what happened to you?” mom voice rang up and I first stood straight then faced her, seeing her horror filled eyes on my leg I shifted a bit.

“I-I had a minor accident at Jenny’s” I said.

“Are you OK, honey?” dad asked with a concerned look.

“Yes dad..I’m fine, Al- Freya already treated it and it doesn’t hurt at all” I said and sighed knowing I had almost mention Alex’s name.

“You had dinner at Jenny’s and had an accident which got treated at Freya’s..what’s up with with the lie Gwen” Jerold said and I gave him a stern look.

“I’m not lying dweeb, we had a friends day at Jenny’s” I said with my eyes still on him and he shrugged.

“Honey, are you sure you don’t want me to call doctor Norbert?” mom asked, gently taking my arm.

“That won’t be necessary mom, honestly..I don’t feel any pain” I said.

“I’ll just have an early rest..I’ll be fine” I assured.

“If you need anything, call on me OK?”

“Sure will mom,” I k-ssed Dad “Goodnight dad, mom” I said and head to my room.

“Careful honey!”

“Yes dad” I yelled back.

The next morning arrived more unusual than expected, well the thing was I had been awake since I couldn’t sleep and had spent the early morning looking at the sun as it rose up.

I quickly had some pain killers even though I felt nothing, and tied up the s₱0t which had the bandage with a plastic bag before moving into the en-suite and having a thorough bath and a brush of teeth.

Getting out I unloosed the nylon bag and applied my lotions then took a pink long floral dress which I knew would be long enough to cover the bandages on my leg, I pulled into the dress, buttoned it up, wore a fancy flat sandal and packed up my hair in pony.

Getting all set I grabbed my guitar, checked in for my notes, zipped it back up and took my purse then moved to the living room.

“Good morning, parents.” I grabbed a chair close to dad in the dinning.

“Morning princess..how’re you?”

“I’m great dad” I replied, he touched my forehead, checking my temperature then pulled back.

“Your health’s good” he said.

“Honey?” mom moved from the bar.
“Are you strong enough for school..you can take a day off if you want” mom said.

“No mom, I’m good enough to go to school”

“You’re sure honey?”

“Hundred percent” I gave her a thumb up.

“Here, have this first” she passed a coffee to me and I took it then sipped a large amount.

After breakfast mom k-ssed me goodbye and dad dropped me at the tutorial gate then waved at me.

“Bye dad” I waved back.

“Take care of yourself honey, OK?”

“I will dad” I replied and he drove out of sight.

I adjusted my guitar bag and moved to the gate where I encountered the security who asked for my badge.
Unzipping my purse I pulled out my badge and handed it to him.

“This isn’t yours, is it?” he asked and I gave him a confusing look.

“Of course it’s mine, Gwennie Callaghan” I eyed him.

“This one says, Alex McCormick,” my gaze sharply flew at him as his eyes questioningly gazed mine “Staff” he completed with a confused gaze.

What the—, what??
Alex McCormick, staff..the hell! how did I get this..I was supposed to take mine yesterday which I took out from my purse and left on the table.
How come I had Alex’s.

“It’s not yours..is it?”

“No, I mean yes..no, see it’s kinda complicated” I said..OK, stuttered.
I stretched my hand to take it but saw someone else snatching it and I faced back.

Sighting five girls with the first one holding the badge and peering with wide eyes, I tightened my fist on to my purse.

“OMG!, it’s senior Alex’s!..
She exclaimed and the other girls scampered beside her, each having a peek.

“Hey,” I started calmly “That’s a…

“What do you have with Alex” her blaring eyes sent pitchfork straight into my eyes and I closed my eyes and took a deep breath.

OK..I’m in a big mess right now.
What to do..”

Gwennie’s POV

“Guys, you’re misunderstanding everything” I tried to speak calmly but the look in their eyes showed I wasn’t helping matters, And the security still refused to let me in.

“Are you Alex’s girlfriend?”

“Oh, shut up Cindy that’s not possible..she’s Gwen, the one from the music competition” another girl fired at the other.

“Listen guys..

“Gwen?” a familiar voice called from the gate and I turned to see Hailey, she moved out of the gate and came to me then exchanged inquiring eyes at the girls then back at me.

“Is something wrong?” she asked and I bit my lower lip.

“No, actually I, uh–” I scratched my hair “Wanted to take my badge from this miss” I quickly snatched the badge from the girl who had it and held Hailey’s hand then hurriedly walked in with her..
Good thing the security let us in.

I sighed once I sighted the building.
Geez, that was close!

“Are you OK?” Hailey asked.

“Yes..I had a little misunderstanding, but it’s fine” I said.

“You, what were you doing by the gate?”

“I heard voices and I just came to check,” she took a glance at me “I had to get some glue from Miss Ashley” she said.

“Glues?” I questioned “What for?” I asked when we got to the stairs.

“For detention” she feelingly said.

“Wait detention?”
Detention, in tutorial..isn’t that strange?

“Yeah,” she faced “It’s not really the type you know Gwen..we were just told to make stuffs together”

“We? together?”

“Guy and I,” she answered “Mrs Ashley told us to make a moving car out of toothpicks”

“Some high school punishment,” I scoffed “And for what?”

“Well, we, I mean Guy and I, we both ended up in the females yesterday..
“Wait, you and Guy went to the female restroom together?” my brows struck and I noticed Hailey grip tightened on the rails.

“Yes, kinda,”

“How, I mean why?”

“It wasn’t intentional Gwen, don’t be too curious” she took a peek at me “We just had to argue about some stuffs and we, unintentionally, ended up in the females–

“And let me guess, Mrs Ashley caught you both and misunderstood?”

“She would’ve misunderstood, if it didn’t happen,”

“Wait, what?” I faced her completely, making her stop at the top of the last stairs.

“I just, you know, kinda, sorta k-ssed him and–

“YOU k-ssED GUY?” I had no idea I yelled that out..good thing this hall was empty.

“It wasn’t that much of a k-ss Gwen, just a light peck, but on the l-ips, but it was once, I swear, just a quick k-ss”

“And how did he react?”

“How did you expect a Guy who was k-ssed unexpectedly, to react?”

“In Guy’s case I expect him to have grabbed you, you know and deepened the wh0le thing” I said.

“Nah..” she shook her head “I think I made him angry” she played with her fingers.

“How do you know that?”

“Well, he acted really bad when Mrs Ashley caught us..

“He shouted at you?”

“He just walked away, like he was preventing himself from saying something hurtful,I guess he was angry” her face curved to a sad expression. “I had no idea what came over me, I didn’t even mean to k-ss him..I just, it just, you know, happened and I had no idea about what I was doing, it–

“Hailey, Hailey,” I took her hand to calm her “That’s enough, you k-ssed him, so? it’s no big deal”

“You think so?”

“Yes and besides I don’t think Guy’s mad at you, at least not Cos of a k-ss,”

“But he hasn’t spoken a word to me since then, I feel so bad–

“Maybe he’s really trying to figure out if the k-ss meant something, I guess he’s still too shock to face you” I said.

“Really Gwen, you think so?”

“Yes, just don’t take it too serious..I know Guy has something for you even though he hasn’t said anything,” I said “How’d you expect a Guy who got a k-ss from his crush unexpectedly to react?”

“Dazzled, I guess”

“Exactly, just give him sometime Hai, he’ll get it off soon”

“Th-thanks” her voice cracked.

“Oh, bestie,” I hugged her and patted her back.

“I don’t want to lose him Gwen,” her voice shook “I’ve never loved anyone the way love him”

“I knew you had something for him too, but believe me, Guy’s not mad at you” I said.

“Thanks, you have no idea how high my hopes are now” she said.

“Just don’t worry about it”

It was lunchtime at school and just as you might’ve guessed..Hailey and Guy did get along. though she refused to tell me nothing more than ‘he spoke to during practicals….’ my instinct just kept telling me there were more to it than she spilled. I let it go, anyways.

And Justin and I?
Well, we didn’t say a word to each other the wh0le time and geez It was really saddening me.
I am the one who’s supposed to be mad here, right, well I was but I really don’t think I am anymore at least not until we said nothing to each other a wh0le day.

I missed him, a wh0le lot but I couldn’t tell him that even though I had the urge to, it wasn’t proper..at least to me.
And Lois, well, I’ve heard nothing from her..at least not about she and Jay having a thing together..I’ll have to get confirmation from Hailey, she seem to be really close to both parties and getting my claims affirmed or un-affirmed will determine my stand.

Right now I’m on my way to Alex’s office, to return his badge and get mine which I assumed must be with him, and yeah the scars, it didn’t get noticed yet..the dress did a good job in covering it, I almost forgot I had something under the dress.

I placed two hærd knocks on the door..
“Come-in”
I moved in and closed the door behind me.

I moved to his table and stood there.
“You need something?” He looked up.

“Yes, I mean no, well yes..I took this home yesterday,” I kept the badge on the table and shifted it towards him, he picked it up “I figured out it was yours”

His brows stroke as he peered “Oh my..,” he chuckled and fumbled below his drawer then pulled out a badge..my badge.
He peeked into it..

“This is yours” he stretched and I took it.

“Yes, thanks”

“How’s your leg?”

“It’s better to an extent I at a time forgot I actually had an injury”

“Are you being sarcastic?”

“No, I’m serious, really” I replied.

“Good then. Here” he threw a small plastic bag at me “The sore need to be redressed, the bandage must’ve become soggy”
I took the bag and peered, a roll of bandages, a pack of cotton wool and small swab then an iodine container was in it.

“Yes..thanks”

“Don’t forget to call, if you need my help with something” he said.

“Actually I do,” I said and he stroke a confusing brow at me “I’m really craving for some steamy cream coffee but the vendor at the student cafe ran out of milk cream” I said and faked a frown

“Oh,” he muttered and stroke a brow before picking up the telephone, resting peacefully on it’s cradle and punched something on the other part then placed it on his ear.

“Good afternoon Ginger, will you please get a cup of creamed coffee upstairs? Yes to my office, steaming hot, thanks” he dropped the phone.

OK, he isn’t getting the coffee..my plan didn’t go exactly the way I want it..tch.

“Up inna bit” he said and I nodded then took a seat without being offered, since the jerk didn’t know seats were meant to reduce stress.
His phone rang..

“Hey babe” he said into the phone and my l-ips twitched “Not today Gabby, Anne’s birthday’s today and I promised her my wh0le attention..

Wait, Anne’s birthday, as in Joanne, I totally forgot about the presents.
I’ll just send it tomorrow with an apology card, that might help right?

“I’m sorry, really I’ll make it up to you, I’m busy right now, yes at the office, with a guest, same here, till then..yeah bye” he dropped the call.

*knock knock* a light knock came on the door.
“Come-in” he said.

A young petite woman, I’m outfits that looked more like pajamas walked in with a coffee cup in a small tray..
“I brought the coffee” she said in a polite tone.

“Thank you Mrs Ginger, you can leave it on the table” Alex said, she nodded, dropped the coffee, took the tray and left.

“There you go,” he nodded toward the coffee, I took the cup by the lid, since it was obvious that taking it by the body might hurt my hand, I thanked him and left to join my friends which I had earlier left at the cafe.
Running down the stairs to the last floor in a careful manner, I walked to the cafeteria and sighted Hailey sitting alone with an apple puree beside her and the three other chairs, empty.
I wondered where Guy and Justin must’ve gone.

“You’re back” Hailey raised her head up at me with her straw struck into her mouth.

“I am” I set the coffee on the table and took a seat.

“Where’s Guy and Jay?” I asked.

“They both went to the gents, not long ago actually” she sipped her drink.

I took my coffee and took a light sip, mmmh, it tasted perfect..the cream and the temperature really soothed me..I took more sips and set it down.

“Hailey,?”

“Mmm?”

“Can I ask you something?”

“Sure, anything” she said.

“Do you think Jay and Lois are, you know, having a thing?”

“A thing? I don’t think I understand”

“OK,” I shifted closer on my chair “I mean are Jay and Lois lovers, , you know dating..that stuff” I tried to be specific.

“What? Jay and Lois..of course not, they’re just friends, Justin doesn’t have a girlfriend, at least none that I know of,” she said.

Wow, instinct satisfied..Justin’s not dating Lois after all, I had the wrong view of everything..every single thing and I blamed him wrongly..
oh, I still remember how harshly I spoke to him when he wanted to help me rehearse and knowing that I had to get 5 votes at the competition coz of my wrong views and opinion, geez! it was not true, I almost cried coz of it.

“Why did you ask?” Hailey asked and I jerked.

“It’s nothing..I just wanted to confirm something”
She sipped and I looked away..

Oh Jay..can you forgive me..?
