“The Social Welfare Agency!
Mrs Augustina sounded surprisingly.

“Who called them?
She thought and glanced at Eva she gave her I don’t know look as if she was reading her mind.

“We got a call from this house address that a lady has been maltreating by her husband for years now”
One of the lady said.

“Maltreatment! It can be in this house Madam”
She said with smiles.

“Are you sure Mrs? The house address that was given to us is number 234 market road and is this place”
The other lady said.

“Here is number 234 market road but there’s no ill treatment in this household,we live in peace unity and harmony you can ask my daughter to clarify”
She said with smiles.

“My mom is right,nobody is been maltreated in this house”
Eva added.

The Social workers seem not to be convinced about them,
“Mrs if I may ask how did you get that swallowed forehead and the burises on your hands?
One of them asked.

Mrs Augustina’s heart started beating so fast at the moment she threw that question on her,Eva looked at her expecting her to say the truth but unfortunately she lied to them.

She smiled and said,
“This! It’s my careless that led it to me”

“Careless!
Eva mumbled with her eyes wide opened and wanted to spill out the truth but she can’t due to the awful look her mother have her.

“Can you brief to us how your careless caused this to you?
One of them asked.

“Huh! I slipped and fall while going to the bathroom and I hit my head on the wall”
She said to them.

“I hope I have satisfied you with the questions?
She asked.

“Since you said the address we have is a wrong one then we will take our leave now”
They said.

“Okay,thank you for coming”
She said to them as they made their way out,Eva shut the door.

“Mom let me take the bucket of ice block in,side since you are done”
Eva said and grabbed the bucket.

“Come back here not to fast Eva!
She shouted and she went back to her.

“Did you by any chance called the Social Welfare Agency?
She asked being so mean.

She kept quite at her,
“Eva am asking you,are you the one that called the Social Welfare?
She shouted.

She can’t lie even if she lied she will still know,
“Yes Mom,I called them and I was expecting you to tell them the truth but you turned everything up side down”
She shouted.

“How dare you to do that Eva!
She shouted angrily and raised up her hand to slap but she couldn’t do it and brought down her hand.

“Am sorry Mom, I was so angry the way Mr Philip beat you up last night,you nearly died Mom,I was only trying to protect you Mom,I don’t want anything bad to happen to you”
She said in tears.

She hugged her and said,
“Am sorry for raising up my hand on you,I know you are sick and worried about me but I don’t want you to call the social welfare again as I keep on telling my husband will change okay”

“Okay Mom,the Lord will keep in being your strength”
She said with smiles.

“Thank you so much my sweet Eva,you can noe take the bucket in,side”

She said and took the bucket in,side.

Fred a ten years cute boy with brown hair,dimples on his two cheeks ran very fast to an old bungalow sweating like he came out from the bathroom.

His Mom lying down on the bed coughing so bad,she has been sick for months suffering from tuberculosis they had sold almost everything they have to raise up the money for her treatment but the money didn’t reach half of the amount required.

The drugs that was sustaining her got finished and no money to buy the drugs,this afternoon Fred’s Mom’s sickness got worst,Fred rushed in,side the room breathing so heavily.

“Mom the people I ran to refused to help us out saying that the money they lend us we have not pay them back,nobody want to help us”
He cried out.

“It’s well my son!
She said with a weak voice.

“Mom nothing will happen to you okay,you have to be very strong for me Mom”
He cried out as the mother keep on coughing.

“Fred my son, you need to know the real truth about your Father”
She said in cough.

“Mother calm down first when you have gotten a enough strength you can tell me what I need to know about my father”
He said in tears.

“I need to tell you this now,my body is weak I don’t think if I can live to see tomorrwo”
She said in cough.

“Stop saying that Mom,Nothing will happen to you okay”
He said in tears and pecked her on her forehead

“Listen to me Fred,your father is not late,he is much alive,your father is Mr Ernesto Perez the owner of the Perez Enterprise”
She said.

Fred couldn’t believe his two ears,
“You mean that rich man is my Dad?
He asked in shocked.

“Yes,he is your father!

“Then why did you lied to me? Why did you told me that my father passed out after giving birth to me?
He asked in tears.

“Because he don’t want you,he don’t anything to do with us and it is because of him that’s why our lives is like this”
She said in cough.

TEN YEARS AGO
Lucia was Mr Salvador’s Secretary,she fallen in love with him knowing fully well he is a married woman,Mr Salvador only takes her as his s-x girl,someone that satisfy his s-x urge whenever he need it and nothing more.

Along the line she got pregnant and informed him at usual hotel room.

He shouted and Lucia became so astonished about his reaction she never expected him to react that way she thought she gonna be happy to have a child since he have none.

“Sir am very sure,am pregnant for you besides you are the only man I have ever known in my life”
She said in tears.

“Have anybody find out about this?
He asked.

“No one Sir!

“Okay you know what you gonna do,you have to abort that pregnancy”
He shouted and Lucia became so shocked.

“Why should I abort my baby Sir? I can’t do that”
She shouted in tears.

“Then sort yourself out because I won’t father that child”
He shouted angrily.

“What are you saying Sir? Instead of you to be happy that you will be expecting a child and you want me to abort it”
She cried out.

“Did i tell you that I need a child? Did i mention that to you? If you know what is good for you don’t you never mention my name to anyone for being responsible for your pregnancy, if you do consider yourself a dead human being”
He shouted angrily.

“Now I know that all your love for me was all lie,you never love me all wanted was to lured me in bed only to satisfy your selfish desires”
She cried out.

“You think I will love someone like you? From now onward you are fired and you are cease form coming to my company anytime I see you around the premises be ready to expect the worst for me”
He shouted.

Lucia sat slowly on the bed crying so bitterly,she couldn’t believe that this actually happening to her.

“You can take this to sort yourself out”
He said and threw money to her.

“Take back your money I don’t need it”
She shouted and threw the money back to him.

He picked the money and laughed out like a silly man he is,he made his way out from the room.

“Am I finish! What am I going to do now? Why did I allow this man to deceived me like this and ruined my life? What will tell my family?
She cried out.

She wiped her tears and grabbed her purse and made her way out.

When she got home,her father was in the sitting room and his face didn’t seem so bright to her.

“Where are you coming from Lucia?
He asked being without any little smiles in his face.

“Dad I went out to the supermarket to get some things”
She said.

“Lucia explain to me the meaning of this!
He shouted angrily showing her the pregnancy test result.

She didn’t say anything to him,she became so speechless,words refused to come out from her mouth only tears that was dropping from her eyes.

“Lucia how could you brought this shame to me? What did you think people will say that I didn’t brought you up very well?
He shouted angrily.

She knelt down in front of him crying so bitterly,
“Am very sorry Dad”

“Who got you pregnant Lucia? Who is the bastard that did this to you?
He shouted.

She remembered the threat warning Mr Salvador gave her.

“Dad I don’t know who is responsible”
She cried out.

“What did you mean you don’t know who got you pregnant? Did the pregnant flew up and got into your stomach? Who is the father of that baby?
He shouted.

“I don’t know Dad,I don’t know how i got pregnant”
She cried out.

“Lucia tell me the truth,did you got raped?
He asked.

“I have to find something to tell him that lead to my pregnancy”
She thought and came up with an idea.

“Dad you remember the company party we had last two weeks?

“Yes I can remember,what happen?
He asked and sat down.

“I didn’t know what happened to me until when I wake up and found myself naked that’s when I know I was drugged and raped”
She said and her Dad believe her and even got so pity for her.

“Did you know the people that did this to you?
He asked.

“No Dad,I don’t have a clue about them”
She said in tears.

He held her hands and said,
“Those bastard must surely suffer for doing this to you,It’s well my daughter I will be stand with you this child will be a blessing to us”

She hugged him so tight with tears.

A year later,her father passed out leaving her and Fred,she tried her possible best to train her son to this level he is now.

PRESENT
“A man that denied me can never be my father,he is so heartless and wicked,he must surely pay for making us to suffer”
Fred shouted angrily.

“My son you have to left bygones to be bygones,I don’t want you to have hatred over your father now that you are going to be living with him”
She said coughing so seriously.

“Be with who? Am not going to be with anybody nor leave your side,you are my mother and father I will be here with you”
He said.

“For sure i will forever be in your heart and you will also be in mine,the clock is ticking I don’t have much time to leave always be a good boy to your new parents and always carry out the principles of life I taught you which will lead you to great places and i will be so glad seeing you becoming a successful man”
She coughed.

“Mother stop talking about death,you are not going to die”
He cried holding her hands.

“Mrs Sarah Perez is a very good woman she will take good care of you like her own child,I have called her she should be on her way”
She said.

“Mother I said you are not going to die and am not going to be with anybody so stop talking about death”
He sounded.

Few minutes later,Mrs Sarah arrived at their house,it was not had for her to locate them since Mrs Sarah and Mrs Lucia has known each other for a very long time apart from being her husband’s Secretary they attained the same college.

She rushed in and became so shocked of her condition.

“Thank God you are here!
She said to her.

“Lucia we have to take you to the hospital immediately”
She sounded being so worried about her.

“Sarah no need of going to the hospital my body is so weak and I meant die any moment from now”
She said in cough.

“No Mother you are not dying!
Fred cried out.

Lucia narrated everything between she and her husband,Sarah didn’t blamed her for sleeping with her husband and even had a son for him rather he blamed her husband for abandoning her and putting her in this condition of suffering.

She took Fred’s hand and placed it on Sarah’s hand,
” Sarah is now your son,please take him like your own child and my spirit will rest peacefully knowing that my son in the hands of a good woman”
She said coughing so badly.

“I will defiantly take him as my own son,a child i don’t have,having him in my life will make me so happy and my heart will now have peace of mind and not troubling anymore for not having a child”
She said in tears.

“Fred remember what I have taught you,be good son to them,I love you and you will forever be in my heart”
She said coughing so badly and uncontrollable.

“I love you too Mom but you are not going to leave me”
He said and pecked her.

She was coughing badly and all of a sudden she stopped coughing and her eyes opened widely without blinking at moment Sarah noticed that she is no more.

“What is it Mom? What’s wrong with you? Why are you not blinking you eyes?
Fred cried and shaked her but she didn’t react.

“What’s wrong with my mother? Why is she not coughing again?
He cried asking Mrs Sarah.

“Am sorry Fred your mother is gone”
She said to him in tears.

“No ooo! My mother can not die! She can’t leave me here! Wake up mother! Wake up!
He cried out shaking her body.

Mrs Sarah hugged him so tight,
“It’s well Fred,we can’t bring her back”
She said in tears and took her out from the room.

Fred couldn’t stop crying, his eyes swallowed up and became so reddish,Lucia’ s body was taken to the morgue till tomorrow when she will be bury at the cemetery while Mrs Sarah and Fred lodged at the hotel,Fred couldn’t sleep he keep on crying and crying,Mrs Sarah consoled him and gave him a words of encouragement.

She rest his head on her shoulder touching his hair softly until he fall asleep,she lay him down and covered him the duvet then went to bed.

After the funeral,Fred was in,side Mrs Sarah’s car,
“Fred your Mom but she will never be gone in our hearts she will forever be in this heart”
She said.

“I made a promise to your mother to take good care of you and am going to do that, I promise you that I will be a good mother to you,l will love and care for you like my own son but I can’t take you home now because I need to sort out things with my husband before bringing you home,I will drop you at the orphanage for the mean time then come back when am done and pick you so we will stay leaving together,I hope is okay by you?
She said.

“No problem Ma!
He replied.

“Let’s go then!

They drove to the orphanage home,she filled in some necessary things,she gave him her words to come back and pick him,she hugged him before leaving the orphanage.

AT MR PHILIP’S HOUSE
“Augustina come here! Augustina!
He shouted angrily.

“Yes! Am coming!
She shouted to ran out.

“What is it this time? Why can’t this man allow someone to have peace of mind?
Eva sighed and her mother behind.

“What is this? What nonsense is this?
He shouted angrily pointing at the food he was served.

“What’s wrong with this man? He called mother out here to ask her the name of the food he is eating,I can see that his too much of drinking alchcol is turning him Into a lunatic”
Eva mumbled.

“Is Burritos my husband”
She answered.

“Did i asked you the name of the food am eating? Haven’t I warned you to stop serving me Burritos when it’s hot I don’t like it”
She shouted.

“I said it he is turning into a lunatic now”
Eva mumbled.

“But my husband you are the one that told me I should stop serving you Burritos while cold that you like it when is hot”
She said reminding him.

“You are now calling me a liar or what? Am now a liar right?
He shouted angrily and slapped her.

Eva grabbed a knife at the dinning table and pointed it at him.
“What’s your problem Mr man? Are you not the one that told Mom to stop serving you Burritos while cold? It seems that your enjoying beating my Mother,if you touch her again I swear to you i will use this knife and cut off your hand,What is even your problem?
Eva shouted angrily.

“Oh I see! You have grown a enough wings to shout at me and even threaten to kill me”
He shouted angrily.

“Touch her,I will show you that am small but mighty”
She shouted being so angry.

“Please Eva drop the knife,please give it to me”
The mother pleaded and colleched the knife.

“You have the guts to threaten me!
He shouted angrily and slapped her.

“Why did you slapped my daughter?
She shouted angrily and slapped him back,first time of raising up her hand on him for the past sixteen years of their marriage.

“You slapped me!
He shouted angrily and slapped her a double slap,he started beating her.

“Leave my mother! Leave my mother!
Eva cried out and gave him a painful bit on his leg.

He kicked out her angrily,she hit her head on the table then he pushed her mother forcely to the wall,she hitted her head on the tiles,blood started pumping out immediately.
