GLASS-FA HOTEL__NEW-YORK CITY (10:17AM)

She stood by the big glass windows in a hotel room, with a white towel perfectly wrapped around her chest and her damped hair fell on her shoulders.

She held a glass of champagne on her right hand and a cigarette on her left hand, as she looked into the busy streets of New York City… from this s₱0t she could get the perfect view that she wanted.

The man she had came with earlier was sitting on the bed, with his back rested against the headboard and a magazine in his hands.

A duvet was covering his body to his chest level, but it’s obvious he’s unclad under the duvet.

He paused and raised his head slightly.

“We’ve lost sight of your daughter hours ago, aren’t you the least worried about her?” he asked.

She tilted her head and narrowed her eyes, but doesn’t take her eyes off the road.

“I’m not worried and I won’t be, it’s not my fault she couldn’t keep up” she took a sip from her glass. “What a slow punk she is…just like her father” she said.

Her expression and tone changed when she made reference to her child’s father, a disgusted frown appeared on her face and her voice heard hatred.

“But you can’t just leave your eight years old outside, all alone and by herself, Matilda” the man said, though he sounded like he’s scolding Matilda, but in reality he’s complimenting her.

“Heh” Matilda scoffed loudly at his words. “I don’t care what happens to that piece of sh.it, I’m just keeping her around for a purpose and I don’t need her anymore… I’m almost there, Peter” she said.

Peter put the magazine on the bedside table and pushed the duvet off, he approached Matilda in his uncladness and hugged her from behind.

“Why do I find myself falling in love with your evilness?” he asked.

“Obviously because my evilness is s-xy and hot” Matilda replied.

“Hm… I just love how evil you are, let’s drink!”

Matilda nodded and smirked wickedly.

CITY GENERAL HOSPITAL__10:17AM

“…your daughter is very smart and brave for girls her age, I heard she called 911 after the accident” Doctor Faith said.

Jayden nodded and adjusted Isabella in his arms, he rested her head on his chest as he’s trying to get her to sleep.

“Yeah” Jayden agreed with doctor Faith.

Doctor Faith stared at Isabella for a moment, then averted his gaze towards Jayden.

“You said you’re the patient’s husband?”

“Yes”

“But I have asked your daughter and she said the patient’s not her mom, does that mean you’re lying?” Doctor Faith asked.

Jayden stared briefly at his daughter and rubbed her shoulder lightly.

“Well, Cassandra and I just got married few days ago, and Isabella wasn’t in the country then…I believe she just arrived today” Jayden said, although the first part was a lie.

“Oh…that explains why she doesn’t recognize the patient as her new mother yet, poor child”

“Ahem” Jayden cleared his throat, inwardly saying his daughter is not poor even though he knew the doctor was just sympathizing with his daughter.

Doctor Faith opened a file in front of him and pushed it towards Jayden, which Isabella quickly reached for and seriously stared at it as if she could understand a word written in it.

“Funny girl” doctor Faith chuckled.

Isabella turned to her father with a small frown.

“Daddy, what is a mild concussion?” she asked.

“It’s a minor head injury, princess” Jayden replied her.

She nodded and turned back to the file, to continue reading.

“She’s so cute”

“Yes, I know she is, but can we talk about my wife now?” Jayden asked, getting impatient to find out more about Cassandra’s health.

Doctor Faith shook his head and smiled at Jayden’s anxiousness.

“Well…your wife is fine and she’ll regain consciousness in the next forty to forty-five minutes”

“So does that mean she’s not gonna suffer any internal injuries?”

“Yes, that’s what I implied”

Jayden glared at the doctor for using sarcasm, but the doctor ignored Jayden’s glare and continued.

“Although she hit her head pretty hærd, but she’s lucky she didn’t sustain any internal injuries…”

Doctor Faith raised his hand and shook his head, when he saw Jayden’s questioning look.

“…and don’t worry, she’s not gonna suffer from amnesia.. she’s still gonna remember you’re the only man she loves” he answered Jayden’s unasked question.

A smile crept up Jayden’s face and his shoulders shook as he laughed silently, relaying doctor Faith’s words.

He could already see clearly, the images of his and Cassandra’s happy future together.

“I believe she’s already taken to her ward by now…” he paused and checked his wrist watch. “…you can get to see your sweetheart now, but first…”

He trailed off and searched his drawer for an extra pen, then pushed another file towards Jayden and placed the pen on it.

“…first, you have to sign these papers and let your wife stay under observation today” doctor Faith said.

“Ok, but will my wife still….”

“FU.CKING MOTHERFU.CKER, IS JAYDEN STILL ALIVE?!” An all too familiar voice shouted and the door was pushed open.

Jayden rolled his eyeballs and passed doctor Faith an apologetic look, then turned back to face the intruder.

“Can you funking stop curse, I’ve got a kid here, Steve!” he snapped at Stephen.

But as usual, Stephen being himself ignored Jayden and fell on his knees, wailing and wiping off some imaginary tears, he wrapped his arms around Jayden from behind.

“It’s such a great joy you’re still alive, it’s a great joy!” he cried.

Jayden shut his eyes very briefly and sighed.

“And here comes the drama I hate most” he grumbled under his breath.

Stephen pulled away from him, he rushed forward and snatched his wrist, then checked Jayden’s wrist watch.

“There’s still hope, we can still save him” he said as if he’s reassuring himself.

“Steve, do you plan on draining the….” Jayden paused and glanced at his wrist. “…the 9% I have left?”

“No, silly!” Stephen smacked his lap. “I’m here to save your a.ss”

“I said stop swearing in front of my kid!” Jayden scolded him.

“Shh” Jayden frowned at his friend for hushing him.

Stephen headed towards the door and reached for a small bottle in his briefcase that he had abandoned by there when he came in earlier.

He rushed back to Jayden, he opened it and handed a small tablet to him (Jayden).

“Take that, it would slow your heartbeat… that’s the only way I can make your battery stop running for now”

Jayden stared at the drug in his hand, he perceived it and frown.

“I hate it’s smell” he said.

“What?”

“It smells bitter”

“Stop whining and take it now” Stephen said sternly.

All these while doctor Faith and Isabella has been watching them silently, in amusement….though Isabella simply looked curious and confused.

“Are you two dating?” she asked when she couldn’t hold it in anymore.

“What?” All three of them (Stephen, Jayden and doctor Faith) asked at once.

“Is he your new boyfriend?” she asked again, thinking they didn’t get her question the first time.

Stephen and Jayden exchanged looks, then turned to doctor Faith who simply wagged his brows at them.

“Matilda is truly a bad influence on your daughter” was all Stephen could say.

Ding, ding.

Danny’s phone chimed, he reached for it instantly as though he’s waiting for its chiming.

He saw it was a message, he wore his glasses and opened the conversation.

“We’ve parceled the informations to you” it read.

His gaze averted to the blue file on his desk, he put his phone aside and reached for the file…he torn it open without hesitation.

He flipped pages open and after reading a few lines, his expression changed as the file slipped off his hands and landed back on the table.

“Could it be….” he trailed off.

Though he was finding it difficult to pick up the file again, but his eyes never left it, he kept staring at it in dismay.

Just then, the door burst opened and his wife stepped in. Not knowing what to do, he snatched the file off the table and hide it behind him, then sprang up and released a nervous laugh.

“Hon-honey, you’re here” he stuttered slightly.

She narrowed her eyes at him and gave him a suspicious look.

“Yes, I’m here”

His eyes moved to the plate of sliced fruits in her hand, he nodded at it.

“And you brought fruits”

“Yes, I did”

“Whoo, they’re pretty fresh”

“Heh”

She walked closer to the desk and gently dropped the plate in a corner, stylishly looking around for anything but nothing…but she suddenly paused.

“What are you doing, Danny?” her eyes landed on the papers he’s hiding behind. “What are those papers?” she asked.

“Nothing”

Her already narrowed eyes, narrowed even more.

“It’s not nothing, it’s definitely something and I have a feeling it’s somehow related to Cassandra”

There’s a brief silence, she’s staring at her husband suspiciously until it dawned on her and she gasped.

“You’re investigating her!” she said as a matter of fact.

“I… ”

“Don’t you dare deny it when you know it’s true, why are you bothering yourself? Why are you investigating her even after telling you to let her be? What’s she got to do with your past?”

Danny slumped back on his chair and slammed the file back on the table, he released a sigh.

“I had to investigate this, honey”

She snatched the file from him and glared at him through squinted eyes.

“Really?” she asked, still not reading any of the papers though.

“Yes, she’s Emilia’s daughter!”

Her eyes quickly looked down to the papers in her hands, she did a quick scan on them and she staggered back slightly as she held onto the papers tightly.

She released a humorless laugh.

“Now I see why it bothers you, it’s because she’s your ex’s daughter”

She lifted her head and looked him in the eyes.

“Which only means two things, it’s either she reminds you of Emilia because you haven’t gotten over her yet. Or you think she’s your daughter”

“Honey, she’s not my ex, Emilia was… ”

“Oh, my bad, I just remembered” she stared intently in his eyes and smiled. “She was not your ex… ”

Danny seemed like he knows what she’s about to say, he shook his head.

“Honey, don’t.. don’t say it”

“She wasn’t your ex.. she was the woman you RAPED!” she spouted angrily.

To be continued.
