CHAPTER FIFTY-SIX: ESCAPE FROM THE DUNGEON 2 ( REON’S REASSURANCE)

Muchen study room was tense, the air heavy with an unspoken accusation. Fang stood before me, her eyes locked onto mine, but there was a defiance in her gaze that stoked the flames of my frustration.

I couldn’t shake the feeling that she held the key to Queen Jing’s disappearance, they have always been something suspicious about this lady, her eyes never bore fear when looking at me. The last time I saw her, she smelled just like Alexander, am sure she knows something.

“Fang,” I began, my voice low and intense, “I will cut to the chase, where is my wife.”

Fang met my gaze with a defiant stare. “My loyalty is to the queen. I know nothing about her disappearance.”

Her words were like a dagger, plunging deeper into my heart. but my instincts told me there was more to the story” fang, do you perhaps know about Alexander”

” Alexander?” She look at me, feigning ignorance ” who is that?”

“Queen Jing wouldn’t disappear without a trace,” I continued, my tone turning even more intense. “You’ve been by her side, and you must have observed something unusual. I implore you, Fang, tell me anything you know that can help us find her.”dropping the Alexander issue, I notice her breath a sign of relief, for a very short second, it will be difficult for anyone to notice that ” you also happened to be among the guards that escorted queen Jing to that tea party”

Fang’s expression remained unchanged, resolute in her silence. The room seemed to grow smaller, the walls closing in on me, and the weight of the mystery bore down on my shoulders.

“I’m running out of patience, Fang,” I warned, my frustration bubbling over. I stepped closer to her, my anger now evident. “I will do whatever it takes to find Queen Jing, and if you refuse to cooperate, I won’t hesitate to punish you, to the point you will die.”

Fang’s eyes narrowed, but she didn’t break her silence. She is indeed loyal to Alexander, she never denied the fact if she knew him, just asked who that person is…..it might have been a mistake on her part but I won’t let that miss my mind.

I lost my temper and, in a moment of blind rage, grabbed Fang by the neck, lifting her up, I watch how she struggled to catch her breath, her hands trying to separate mine from her neck ” why do you hide him, why won’t you speak of his location!!!!”

She force her self to speak ” because I love him ”

I couldn’t accept such stupid answer, I care not of her love life, I do not care if she will kill people for him….all I need right now is Jing location which Alexander knows and that’s the only way to get to Jing, I need to find him to show me the way, ready to strangle the truth out of her. The fear in her eyes only seemed to fuel my anger.

Before I could act on it Li-Mu stepped in, a calming presence in the room. “My lord, we can’t afford to harm her before we have concrete evidence. Let’s not act in haste.”

I turned to Li-Mu, my anger still simmering but my rationality returning. “You’re right, Li-Mu. We need to find Queen Jing, but we can’t lose sight of our principles.”I chuckle ” to think a mere maid dare defile me”

” Milord ”

Fang, her eyes still filled with defiance, took a deep breath as my grip on her neck finally released. The situation was far from resolved, but for now, we had to explore other avenues to uncover the truth ” am not done with her, take her to the torture room, I will force the truth out of her ”

She tremble from that word ” milord, I really know nothing of queen Jing disappearance, I will never try to do anything to hurt her ”

” Take her away, I will be right there” I growl ” do hit up the iron awaiting me ”

” As you wish milord ”

I sat at my desk after they left, my quill in hand, a piece of parchment spread before me. With a deep breath, I began to write, my words flowing from anger:

“Alexander,

Take this as a warning, You have one day’s time to come forward and confess your role in this sinister plot. If you do not comply, your lover, Fang, will pay the price for your deceit, do not think in the slightest that this death of hers will be simple.

I do not have mercy for those that defile me, bring my Jing back to me and you will have fang, like I said, you have one day to do that ”

As I finished writing, I folded the note carefully, sealing it with the royal insignia. The weight of my words felt like a physical burden as I placed it in an envelope.

I moved to the window, the cool night air brushing against my face. From the small table by the window, I took a piece of wood and my knife. Whittling the wood into a small figurine, how long have it been that I did such a thing?

Ages.

With the figurine in one hand and the note in the other, I waited. It was not long before a beautiful bird, its feathers a mix of blues and violets, fluttered to my windowsill. I carefully tied the note to the bird’s leg, ensuring it was secure.

“Fly, my friend,” I whispered to the bird, a silent plea for it to carry my message to whoever might receive it.

With a gentle release, the bird took flight, disappearing into the night. I watched it go, a sense of hope and determination swelling within me.

Stepping into the torture room, my gaze dart towards fang who is chained to the wall, as always, this place really sting ” tell me fang ” moving close, I pick up the hot iron and stare at her with smiles on my face ” where is Alexander”

” I do not know his whereabouts” she cried, fear finally appearing on that face of hers ” I speak the truth ”

” Fang!!!!” I have no time for this, moving close, I placed the iron right on her face and she cry out ” tell me where that bastard is!!!!”

” Stop it ” her voice was starting to get deeper ” do you think killing me will take you to her? ” I let go of the iron and watch it fall to the floor, her face healed up immediately ” you disgust me” she spit out of her mouth ” after all these years you think you can show up and act like someone that cares?”

” You’re not human” I frown, dipping my hands into my pocket, I watch how she break free from the chains and look at me ” who are you?”

” Am Alexander fiancee” I frown at that ” don’t you remember me? Lady Lin ” she look at me and I couldn’t move ” I do not know about queen Jing location but I will never let you touch Alexander” my anger resurface and I grab her neck in the process.

A week without Jing blood is taking its toll on my body.

” Do not think that what you said had change my mind, I do not care about who you are” lifting her I watch her struggle in the air ” you might not be human but do not think I can’t kill you, shameless fae”

Jing eyes fluttered open, I found myself in a room entirely different from the dark, damp dungeon I’d been trapped in. The stark contrast was disorienting, but I couldn’t help but gasp at the change.

The room was bathed in soft, soothing colors—a far cry from the cold, dimly lit cell. Tiny drawing of flowers adorned the walls, and the air was filled with a pleasant fragrance that was unfamiliar yet strangely comforting.

As I slowly sat up, my past memories came rushing back, and the events of Lady Margaret’s tea party and the subsequent encounter in the dungeon flooded my mind. I was no longer in there, but where ever is this is, am I safe?

Am sure it was someone I know nothing of that took me from that forest, I will not say save but he did help me.

With newfound energy, I got to my feet and walked out of the room, my curiosity driving me forward. The door led me into a spacious living room that was equally as inviting as the bedroom. There, sitting in a plush chair, was a stranger.

His presence caught me off guard, but I couldn’t help but notice that he radiated an air of calm and assurance. “Queen Jing, I hope you’re feeling better,” he said, his voice soothing and gentle. How did he know my name? Who is he? Did lady Margaret send him?

Different questions flood my head but I try my best to remain calm, my eyes darted to the door, it seem locked, the window also locked, no means of escape. My gaze locked onto his, studying his features and trying to place his face in my memories, but he remained a mystery.

“Who are you? Where am I?” I asked, my voice still bearing the strain of my recent ordeal, I dare not show how scared am feeling, I need to get out of here alive, I need to find out who he is first.

He offered a warm smile. “I understand that you must have many questions. You’re in a safe place now. My name is Reon.”

” That doesn’t ring a bell ”

As I stood there, uncertainty and fear still coursing through my veins, Reon approached me with a reassuring smile. His calm demeanor was in stark contrast to the chaos I’d experienced recently. I felt a surge of emotions, a mixture of relief and confusion.

“Queen Jing,” he began, “I understand this is all overwhelming. But I want you to know that you’re safe here. I have no intention of harming you. In fact, quite the opposite.”

My grip on the edge of the sofa tightened as I replied, my voice wavering, “Why should I believe you? I’ve been through so much, and I don’t even know where ‘here’ is.”I look at him closely ” I wish to leave ”

Reon took a step closer, his tone soothing. “You should believe me because my purpose is to protect you, not hurt you. I know it’s difficult to trust, given your recent experiences. But I promise I have no ill intentions.”

” My recent experience? What do you think happened to me?” I furrow my brows at that, his expression change a little, Tears welled up in my eyes, I have no enough energy to pass through pains again “Why did you bring me here? Who are you?”

He maintained a calm demeanor, trying to allay my fears. ” I know nothing about what happened to you but I saw the burns around your arm and leg, they must be painful.”he look sincere.

The room seemed to close in on me, and I struggled to catch my breath. The events leading up to this moment had left me scarred, but a glimmer of hope flickered within me. It was difficult to let my guard down, but Reon reassurance was a lifeline I desperately needed.

” I need to go to the palace ”

” I already sent words to the palace for your whereabouts” he smile ” am sure the king will be here in no time” I look at him, didn’t bother to smile back, he look strange, he knew my name but how? He didn’t answer that question, I can’t trust him. ” You might not know but your painting is all over the news these days, everyone know what the queen look like ” how did he know exactly what am thinking about.

” I do not trust you ”

” I understand”

” I wish to leave now ”

” Milady ” he look at me ” you shouldn’t even be up yet, it’s late out there, those men might still be looking for you ” he is right ” I promise not to harm you, you can leave tomorrow morning if you must ”

Letting go of the sofa, I gasp and fall to my knees, I could hardly even stand ” milady?” He walk towards my direction and bend down, his eyes placed on mine ” are you okay?” Looking at him, I frown at how calm his presence is, without thinking I move closer to his body and lean on him.

Feels like am on some drugs ” forgive me milady ” he mumble as I look up at him, confused ” I just have some kind of weird body scent that make people find me oddly calm and attractive to hold ” what does he mean?” But I promise not to touch you, you can rest in my arms” I look at his brown eyes.

All I could say was ” Thank you ”
