(My Special Love Story)

I bit my lower lip as I met the eyes of Elliot. “I want to marry someone that truly loves me. You can go ahead with your wedding if you really want to choose that side chick over me because she is ready for marriage. But your love will be tested if you fight for me”.

“Why don’t you want to accept me right now?”.

“I want to see your depth of desire for me”. I walked away, leaving them all behind.

The stupid Raymond didn’t call me for two weeks since I left them at the beach that day.

Was I the one that was supposed to call him?

The fool didn’t call me because he knew that i wanted that company.

I swallowed my pride again and dialled his number.

He didn’t respond to my call.

I had to call him two more times before he finally connected the call. “Hello? Where did you keep your phone?”.

“Are you that dumb that you don’t even know that I am at work right now?”.

“So, you don’t have time to see me now? Is that what you are saying?”.

“Come to my office then if you are so desperate to see my face”. He disconnected the line.

I couldn’t go.

I just couldn’t go.

My pride was deeply hurt.

I was going to go later in the day but I wanted to waste his time for that day.

I slept off on my bed.

When I woke up that day, it was already eight thirty two p.m.

Myra had prepared dinner but I ignored the meal she had brought to the room and entered into the bathroom.

After taking my bath and dressing up, it was already nine o’clock.

I drove to the stupid guy’s company that same night.

He was just walking towards the parking lot when I arrived.

He didn’t look surprised to see me.

I walked towards him and glared at him.

He smiled. “Do you want to spend the night with me? Is that why you came late to see me?”.

I lifted a hand to slap him but he held back at my hand. “Are you crazy?” I fired at him.

He chuckled. “I only asked a question. Calm down”.

“The only reason I am doing this is because of the company!!!”. I fired at him.

He squinted. “Calm down. Your blood is always so hot”.

“You think I will ever give you s€× even if we start dating? You are dreaming!!!”.

He shrugged. “Spending the night with me doesn’t mean the intention always has to be s€×. Aside that, there is nothing special about your body, Rita. I have no interest in your body. You are not even that curvy, what’s the fuss?”

I fumed at him. “Then my big h¡ps are for decoration right?”.

He chuckled. “You sound like you want to look attractive to me”.

“I want to look attractive for myself, not you”.

He rolled his eyes. “Whatever”.

“When am I meeting your parents?”

“Let us enter my car first”.

Before I could argue about if i wanted to enter his car or not, he dragged me into his car.

I folded my arms and watched him expectantly.

He brought a flask from the back seat of the car and opened it.

Food.

Yam porridge.

The exact food that Myra had prepared that evening.

It was steaming when he opened it. “My mum made this and sent someone to bring it for me”.

I nodded uninterestedly.

“You will be meeting her tomorrow and she will ask you to cook soup. That is to taste your wifely ability”.

“Soup?”

“Yes, and she will instruct you to turn semo or pound yam”

I gasped. “I will never do that. I have never even done that for my parents. I was born with a silver spoon”.

“My dad is also rich but I and my mother struggled to make it in life ourselves because we didn’t want to take part in my father’s evil money”.

“Evil money?how?”

“Yes. What does your father do?”.

I shrugged and looked away. I didn’t exactly know what my father was doing for a living, but all I knew was that he was making it big in his business because I never lacked anything while growing up.

“Ay, Ay, Chatapurai”. He said softly as he stared at me.

I gasped at him. Coolval stories My father always said that anytime he wanted to take his bath. How on earth did he know? “How did you know that?”.

“A long time ago, two billionaire brothers struggled to become president of Nigeria, but after twenty years, one brother won. The winner, who is the present president of Nigeria has a group that works on underground duty for him and the looser has a group that works on underground group for him too because he wants to contest for the next tenure. My father is in the loosing team but your father is in the winning team, that is why he is richer than my father, but right now, I am richer than your father”.

“Is my father a government spy?”.

“Why do you think you caught my eyes for a long time? You think it was just because of your wonderful scripts? No, it is simply because we have something in common”.

“My father is not a spy”.

“You are so detached from your family. Your situation is worse than mine. Your both parents are in the cult and that scholarsh¡p you believed was a scholarsh¡p when you participated with the European writers was sponsored by your parents”.

“You are wrong! Very wrong! I won the scholarsh¡p with my ability!!!”.

“Your parents are richer than you think. They have strong influence with the US and Britain because of they are in the winning team. Your father is the closest pal of the president”.

“You liar”.

“When last did you visit or call your parents?”.

“Just shut up!!!”.

He began to eat his yam porridge with a spoon from the flask.

I looked suspiciously at him. “Who are you?”.

He chuckled. “Your destined husband”.

“Our fathers work for opposite sides. Marriage is impossible between us”.

“Our marriage will bring those two groups to war. Only our marriage can”.

“What are you talking about? Did you plan all these with Allen Star?”. He forced a spoonful of yam porridge into my mouth.

“Why didn’t you brush your hair?”. He asked as he looked closely at me.

“I will find out everything about you, I promise”. I reluctantly swallowed the delicious yam porridge.

He nodded and smiled to himself. “You are free”.

When I got back home later that night, I dialled my parents number but they didn’t respond to the call.

It was not the first time.

I was used to their very busy schedule.

All my life, I had thought that their wealth had come from a certain inheritance…but my father had manipulated my scholarsh¡p all these while.

Here I was thinking that I had any ability.

My dad had manipulated everything that had happened in my life.

Did it include those awards that I had received?

Was that why Elliot had approached me in the first place?

His father had told him to propose to me because of his relationsh¡p with my father?

Here I was, thinking that Elliot had chased me because I was a great woman.

The truth was that, there was every probability that my true greatness all these while was as a result of my father’s connection.

Myra rushed into my room with her phone. “Did you get the latest news? The president’s son has cancelled his wedding plans with that girl. He is completely single now”.

I was not excited about that at all.

Deep down, I was happy that I had rejected him.

Elliot knew about my father’s influence all these while, that was the only reason he had been a fool for me all these while.

Ay, Ay, Chatapurai.
