Episode 32.
When I took a closer look at the man, I could see the resemblance and Chris’s features in him, his quiet and gentle nature. Gosh! His face, this man is a replica of Chris.
I wondered who he is to him so I looked from him to my aunt and her husband, I got curious because I’m confused just as the doctor and every other person in the room.
“Calm down, honey, this is not the time for all that drama, Chris must be alive first and then we will sit down and settle our differences amicably” my uncle began in his usual let-peace-rein manner.
My aunt jabbed him and pushed herself away from him, she’s really angry and she’s now crying as she pushed the man to leave the room.
“I will never forgive you! If anything happens to my son, I will make sure you spend the rest of your life behind closed doors!!” She kept asking the man out admix tears.
The man stood and took all her pushes without flinching, the only words he stammered once was, “am… really sorry”
“Mmmm….” The doctor cleared his throat. “Well, gentlemen and woman, this is a hospital and as you can see, you are disturbing my patients. Let’s behave like adults”
My aunt gave the man one last jerk and ran into her husband’s arms, that was quite a display of emotion and I felt sad for what is happening because it’s all my fault, after all.
It’s truly my fault but I guess I did the right thing, where would I and Chris be now? Isn’t it better that what happened is unfolding the truth and though it’s still confusing, I know I will still get the history from A-Z.
“Are you okay?” My uncle asked his wife worriedly and she nodded. Nancy came down from Lisa’s laps and ran to her parents.
“I… I will just give him the blood and….go, I know I will never make a good father, I won’t disturb your…peace after today… I… I am really sorry” the man said and looked over at the doctor.
“Let’s go then, there’s no much time to waste” the doctor said and they left together.
“Ehm…how are you doing, Jenny?” My uncle came to my side when my aunt calmed down.
I nodded and smiled painfully. “Who was…that man?” I asked curiously.
“He’s just an old friend, nothing to worry about and he’s going to give Chris blood, so Chris will be fine soon” He said bluntly.
“Have you called my mother? She must be really worried about me” I inquired forgetting the man for a while.
“I talked to her, they don’t know about this yet but I gave them a good reason why you didn’t come home two days ago” he replied and I gave him a surprise look.
“Two days ago? Does that mean I have been unconscious for two wh0le days?!” My head hurts badly especially when I try to raise my voice.
“Don’t worry, you are alright now” he assured me with a bright smile “and thank goodness you didn’t loose the baby because it might’ve caused damages to your womb, God is great” he added.
“Mmm…. That reminds me, how…did you people know about it because I remember that place is kind of rural and it was dark?” I questioned again.
“That’s true but thanks to God Almighty, some police men were on duty around that area and when people called out to them, they took responsibility and even brought you guys to the hospital before getting us informed” he explained quietly.
“Thank God” I breathed and imagined if he didn’t want to keep us alive for all our sins, we would have been dead by now.
“Anyways, I hope you won’t try to go out to see Chris again because you are not yet strong enough to walk around, he will be fine soon” he promised and held my hand.
I looked away and avoided their prying looks, my aunt came to sit beside me on the bed. “Lisa told us everything” she said and I felt dizzy at once.
“Wh-at…do you…me-an?” I asked in a breaking voice. Lisa stood up from the bed and gave us some privacy, she took Nancy outside.
“I was angry at first because I didn’t believe something like that would happen under my nose and I didn’t notice and for the fact that you two are still so young and naive but I only hope your parents will understand too”
“Aunt…. I… don’t know what you are talking about” I stammered and refused to meet her gaze.
“You are pregnant for Chris, aren’t you?” My uncle asked and urged me to be honest and free.
I sat up and placed my back on the wall, stretched out my legs in front of me and joined my hands together and pleaded for their forgiveness as my eyes were filled with tears.
“Aunt, uncle…am very sorry, it was all my fault, I could have stopped us from such an evil act but I went ahead and allowed my heart control my head, am really very sorry, please” I cried.
“Honestly speaking, I was very disappointed in the two of you but I know everything happens for a reason and I was stupid not to notice what was going on in my house from the very beginning”
“I think I got a clue of it but I didn’t understand because I thought you two are just being mutual towards each other, I couldn’t lay my finger on what it is that’s going on between you guys but I understand now”
“I’m only worried because you are too young and I don’t know what your mother might make of this, it’s not just right” she sang the most amazing song and I love her for being an understanding mother, I went on my knees on the bed and hugged her.
“Thank you, Mama will feel angry and disappointed too but she loves me so I trust she won’t hurt me. I just want Chris to be alright” I choked and cleaned my running nose with the back of my hand.
“I will tell your parents myself, they listen to me and I hope they do this time, as for Chris, his father is here and there’s nothing to worry about” my uncle said and my aunt gave him a dreadful look.
I sat between them and looked from one to the other, I don’t always fail to see their reaction and for the fact that he said Chris’s father is here, my happiness knew no bounds.
Chris said it. He told me that our wish must surely be granted and here it is! Mama and Papa better accept us.
“He’s not my son’s father” she snorted and made faces at my uncle.
“I thought… Chris is your son, what are you… saying?” I drawled looking intently at my uncle.
“Don’t worry, Jennifer. When Chris awakes, everyone will know the truth for I knew this day will come when everything must be disclosed” he smiled and tapped my cheek fondly.
I looked over at my aunt, she looked away and pouted her l-ips in mockery to what her husband is saying, “so, it hasn’t been incest, wow!” I said out loud and they gave me another prying look.
My happiness isn’t complete yet, my Chris is still unconscious and my parents are yet to know about my pregnancy and I don’t know how they might react to it.
“I want to see Chris” I told no one in particular, my uncle nodded and told me he will talk to the doctor about it and he left.
“What will you eat?” My aunt asked and I shook my head. “You are joking right? You don’t know you are eating for two yet!” She laughed and I joined her foolishly….
A nurse came in and told me she will take me to were my Chris is, she helped me stand to my feet and lead me out, my aunt followed behind.
When we got to the hallway, my aunt told me she will go cook food and she left with Nancy, Lisa followed her but not after she gave me a passionate hug.
I mouthed a thanks to her……
It’s as if she knows I won’t be able to relate Chris and me to his parents, I gave her a warm smile and she returned brightly before leaving.
“You have to make it snappy because treatment will commence soon, good luck!” The nurse said as soon as she showed me the room where Chris is and left.
“It’s not like am going to sleep in there!” I scoffed at her back when I’m sure she’s out of earshot and opened the door slowly.
A load of bees filled my stomach when I saw him, he looks pale and his l-ips are so dry. Thank God he’s not breathing through oxygen and his breathing is normal.
He lay on the hospital so still like a dead man and I felt afraid. “Oh God! Please, save him for me” I took his hand and he’s so cold.
“Chris, you have to wake up because we are going to have a baby and I have missed you, I wanted to say sorry before but not anymore, every disappointment is a blessing in disguise”
I laid my head on his arm and took in his strength, “I love you and our love has cleared path for us, heavens has granted our wish!”
