THE DEED……..

EPISODE 19

8:00 a.m sharp, baba was in the house. Iya Dayo had not told anyone that he was coming. She wanted it to be a surprise to them and show them she had the upper hand. Fila was introduced to him. He asked her to open her palm while he traced something on it. He nodded his head as he released her hand. He asked her to sit down and then told her what was expected of her when she gets to Labake’s house. Everyone knew the role they were to play over there. Iya Dayo was cautioned not to utter a word and her countenance shouldn’t be distracting.

“If she can help it” her husband said under his breath but a bit audible.

“What did you say? Say it clearly so we can hear you.” Iya Dayo shouted at her husband.

“I said, “If you can help yourself”. Your reaction now proves what I am saying. I am not going with you because it will be a waste of time.”

“Mind yourself oh baba Dayo. Mind yourself. You have joined in eating Dayo money so you must join in rescuing.”

“Come and force me to go …..” Baba cut them short. He was highly disappointed by the drama playing out.

“We are going there according to my plan. Anyone who fails to abide by instruction will be dumb for two weeks. Just try me.” Baba’s words put fear into Iya Dayo. It was not possible for her not to talk in an hour, how would she survive two weeks?

They were in front of the house by 12:30pm waiting for the appointed time. At exactly 12:50pm, they were at the gate. After filling the form and all the protocols, they were allowed in. They stepped into the sitting room at exactly, 1:00pm. This was a good sign.

Iya Labake received them. She was the one that approved them coming in. She asked Labake to tell Remi to stay in his room for now until he is called.

“You are welcome. What can we offer you?” she asked them.

“Nothing for now. What of your daughter Labake?” baba asked.

“She will join us soon. Oh, here she is.” They exchanged greetings and Labake sat beside her mother.”

Baba twisted his hand in a certain way and greeted iya Labake respectfully. She just smiled and asked him to go ahead.

“Labake, do you know this woman?” Baba asked pointing to Fila.

“I don’t remember although she looks familiar.”

“She is Dayo’s wife.”

“Wow, I have only seen her once before. How are you, madam?”

“I am fine. Thank you for receiving us.”

Baba continued. “This woman is in pain. Her husband has been very sick. The cause of his sickness we have been able to establish. They had gone to many places before they brought him to me. I contacted Ifa and Labake came up. I was told that Labake had a child for Dayo that he was not aware of and it has affected him. Dayo is a shadow of himself.”

“Ah. Wait oh, did I just hear Ifa? You brought an Ifa priest to my house? It is wrong. Very wrong. I am a Christian and I do not frolick with idol worsh¡ppers.” Labake burst out. She turned to look at her mother who just smiled at her did a sign to her to be patient.

Fila responded to her very calmly. “My sister, one should not have a problem that will threaten her faith. We went to church first and we were informed that he offended someone and all he needed to do was to apologise to the person. We could not locate the person and before long, the situation became worse. He couldn’t be managed in the church. We took him to baba here who was able to calm him down. He discovered that he had a child he was not aware existed. That is why we are here.”

“So baba, what do you want my grandson to do for you?” Iya Labake asked.

“Dayo needs his help. Like you were informed, he is sick. Once he is able to interact with his father, he will feel much better.”

“What are the chances of survival for my grandson?”

“The chances are high.”

“But she (pointing at Fila) gave birth to a child, why can’t you use the child?”

“He needs to meet his son to be able to recover.”

“That is fine. Where is he? They can meet here and then he can recover.”

“We both know we have to meet at my shrine. “

“He is to carry a sacrifice abi?”

Baba was silent. He was thrown off balance by the calm in iya Labake’s voice. She also had a disarming smile on her face. She knew more than she was letting out. Labake was the one confused. It is just to appeal to her that is left.

“We both know what is at stake iya Labake. Help the man survive. The son should help his father. He would have decided on his own to see his father but we came appealing instead. We know what can happen.”

“He is the only child of my daughter and under my protection. I will only permit you to bring Dayo here to see him. He will not carry ebo for a man that wanted to kill him and his mother. Never! If he is compelled to carry it; it will be eewo, an abomination.”

“What do you mean? Don’t say that. Those are strong accusations. He never knew he had a son.”

“They didn’t tell you? Did they hide it from you too? Well, I have a story to tell.” she cleared her throat and continued, “My daughter Labake was raped by Dayo sixteen years ago. She didn’t know he was married as he deceived her. She got pregnant from the rape. She was raped again when she went to abort the child. She went for prayers and she was almost raped. She came to me and I made his family know about the pregnancy. Fila, are you aware of all this?”

“I am aware ma.”

“I asked her to keep the pregnancy. She was 35 with no husband so a child could console her. We both know that the child is a special child that refused to be aborted. Dayo had my daughter kidnapped and almost got her killed but the child was destined to survive so she escaped it. Seeing that their lives were in danger, I decided to lie about the pregnancy. I planned with the doctor and claimed she miscarried due to stress. His mother is aware of all I am saying. She was the one I told Labake miscarried and the doctor confirmed to me that she came to ask questions about the miscarriage. I took her away to have her child. That child he was willing to kill just to be in the good books of in-laws is whom you want to carry ebo for him? Impossible! It will be over my dead body.”

There was complete silence in the room. Iya Dayo too couldn’t speak even if she wanted to. Baba was quite surprised by the story. He can’t use a child who has cheated death how many times. It will definitely backfire. So why was he shown the boy? Why was he asked to find the boy? Are the gods playing tricks on him? He needed to go back and make further enquiries.

“Are you confused? Baba I know what you saw. My grandchild cannot be used. You saw his daughter and his mother. I know she would have insisted that you use his daughter if his son will be a problem. What about her? Why can’t she be used? Let her carry the sacrifice for her son. Isn’t she the mother? She is ready to sacrifice her grandchildren’s lives for her son’s wealth. It is not that she loves him oh but because she loves the money he has been bringing. Leave my grandson alone; otherwise, Dayo and his entire lineage will die.”

Iya Dayo stood up to respond but the stern look on baba face made her sit back quietly. All the while Iya Labake was talking, Fila was moping in disbelief. When Iya Labake finished speaking she turned to her mother-in-law and asked,.

“Iya Dayo, is it true? Did you refuse to carry the sacrifice, the ebo for Dayo? You are willing for them to use my only child? Why not you an old woman? This world is wicked. You are a wicked woman.”

Baba Dayo added, “I knew something was amiss. I knew she was hiding something. So you could save your son but you refused to. Iya Dayo, this is unbelievable.” He turned to the baba and said, “Baba, you planned with this woman to do evil against children when an agabalagba is there. Who chooses a young child with potentials to go on a risky journey when an elder will do it better?”

Baba ignored all of them. He spoke directly to iya Labake folding his hands together as a sign of respect and said “Please, can we go aside and discuss the remedy to this problem. The young man is being tied down as we speak. If he enters the street; he will die within 10 days. You are a good woman. You would have destroyed Dayo years ago but you didn’t. There must be a reason. Whatever it is please we need your help.”

She stood up still smiling and led him to a separate sitting area. They discussed away from the eyes and ears of the others and it was agreed on what was to be done. He twisted his hand in respect again and sang her praise song till they got back to others. It was a surprising twist.

Dayo’s father humbly asked, “Can we see the boy?”

“No, you can’t. You will only see him when the father is present.”

THE DEED…….

EPISODE 20

“Baba, what is the way forward?” Iya Dayo asked.

“I have to go back. There was a spiritual manipulation. I have to rush back and make some findings before we take the next step.”

“What did both of you discuss? So she is a witch; I knew all along.”

“Be careful what you say. You never know who is who. By the way, why didn’t you tell me that Dayo tried to kill his son? If the boy had carried that ebo; Dayo would have died instantly. I will go for further spiritual consultation. What I saw today shocked me beyond my imagine. In all my years of practice, I have not been manipulated like this. Time is running out. I have to leave now.”

After baba left, Fila faced Iya Dayo. “So you are aware of all the evil plans against your grandchildren and you went along with it? You are a callous woman. This is where Dayo got his evil behaviour from. See, both of us cannot stay in this house together. You must leave here immediately. If you refuse to leave, I will show you that I have someone more powerful than baba. When power jam superpower, e go bow. If you do not leave you will carry the ebo for Dayo and I will ensure you do not come back alive.”

“I said it. You are the one that did this to Dayo. You are a witch! I will not leave. You planned to take over all Dayo has but now you know he has a son, you want to try to kill him. It won’t happen oh.”

“I want to kill him just like Dayo tried to kill him and you supported him. The boy’s head is stronger than you and Dayo’s head put together. Shame on you. You are calling me a witch? Why didn’t you call Iya Labake a witch? Did you see how your baba was respecting her? Power pass power. I would rather go to her for help. If you don’t leave my house that means you have declared war.”

“Both of you should behave yourselves please. I am tired of this noise. What is it? There is a problem on ground and instead of finding a solution we are quarrelling. Fila, your daughter is at stake here just as Iya Dayo. I had talked to my pastor about this issue and he said we are going about it the wrong way. Let us carry Dayo to see his son and watch what happens. Possibly he will get better.”

“Get better how? Isn’t it obvious that it was Iya Labake that inflicted Dayo and you want us to take him to the lion’s den? Ah, have you planned with the enemy?”Iya Dayo answered her husband.

“The only option I can see now is to find whom he offended and beg for forgiveness. I will not allow any of my grandchildren carry sacrifice for Dayo. If he doesn’t survive; we will accept it like that.” Dayo’s father responded.

“What is this man saying? Ki lo se e? We should accept it like that?” Iya Dayo answered him rudely

“Since you are suggesting we shouldn’t, then you can also sacrifice your life for your son.” Fila replied her with a straight face.

“Ko ni daa fun e! Oloshi! Oloriburuku! …..”

“Same to you oh. You are a witch. A wicked woman that is ready to sacrifice her grandchildren for her son’s wealth. Wealth he got from preying on others.”

“I am tired of this rubbish. I am going to find a solution myself.” Baba Dayo storming away.

“Baba will find a solution.”

“You are baba’s solution just in case you don’t know Iya Dayo. Borrow yourself brain.”

Labake was more confused after they had left. She sat with her mother and asked what was going on.

“My daughter, I will explain everything in due cause. For now, go and see Remi. It will be very clear to you soon.”

Immediately she left, the smile disappeared from her mother’s face. Iya Labake was upset. Their evil plans won’t work. They can only succeed over her dead body. They didn’t whom they were dealing with. She knew they would eventually find out but her prayer was; hope it won’t be too late.

Baba made his consultations. The two options were still open; either he goes to beg the person for forgiveness or his son, mother or daughter gives a sacrifice to the person he offended spiritually. The person had refused to show forth her face for him to appeal to her. Her heart was hærdened towards Dayo, therefore, she backed baba each time he made a consultation.

Iya Labake was a very powerful woman. She had told him to find another solution that didn’t involve her grandson because he had defeated death before, he would defeat it again but her fear was the repercussion it would have on him if he kills his own father.

“It is best they are separated from each other. His spirit will fight his enemy. His father is his number one enemy.” Iya Labake said. Well, she was telling the truth except that what he was seeing, he was the first option.

She had also warned him to get another solution or hands off this case. He might have to in order to preserve his life. Or he would ask his mother to carry the ebo for him. He already knew that Fila’s daughter was a no go area. He felt sad he couldn’t help Dayo. The final phase of the sickness is very painful, and shameful. It was a pity he could do nothing for Dayo at this point in time.

Baba Dayo went to visit Dayo in the hospital. He was informed that they had increased the dosage of the sedative he was given to a dangerously high dosage and he still wasn’t falling asleep. Once he doesn’t sleep, other patients won’t be able to sleep because he will be talking to himself all night and at some point, he will be shouting. The nurse was scared that the dosage might kill him. Double wahala. As he was leaving the ward, a woman walked up to him.

“I work in this hospital and I can see that your son is deteriorating daily. Can I make a suggestion?” he nodded at her “I know a place you can take him too and he will get better. This is not a medical problem but a spiritual one.”

He knew this already. He also knew what he will be told wherever she was recommending. “Thank you for your suggestion but we have been to places and they have said the same thing. We know the problem; it is the solution we are searching for.”

“I wish you can believe what I am about to tell you. If he goes to this place, he will have an encounter. He will get his deliverance. The man has never failed. He is based in the north though. I promise you; you will testify.”

“Is he an Islamic cleric or something?”

“He is a Pastor. He was a practising medical doctor before he was called to the work of God. Believe me when I say give him a try.”

“Ok, give me the details.”

That night he decided to just talk to God on his own. He had not been a practising Christian but that night he called on God to give him a solution. By the time he was through, he felt lighter. He slept very well which he hadn’t done in a very long while and woke up refreshed. He decided to do as the woman had advised. He called the hospital and made the arrangement.

Iya Dayo was also up early. She tried to talk to him as he was leaving but he ignored her. The journey was a long one and they were taking a risk undertaking it with Dayo. They picked a heavily sedated Dayo up from the hospital, headed to the airport and caught a flight to Abuja. A vehicle picked them and they began the journey to the powerful man of God people testified about.

Iya Dayo wondered why her husband shunned her the way he did. She wanted to let him know that baba was coming that morning. He had said everyone should wait for him. Fila came down and walked past her without greeting her. “This one has grown wings too,” she thought to herself. She wanted to ignore her but she didn’t also want her to leave the house before baba gets there.

“Madam good morning o. Baba is on his way here. He said we should wait for him. So, don’t go anywhere.”

She came out of the kitchen with a mug of tea in her hand and sat down completely ignoring iya Dayo. This infuriated iya Dayo. She felt like slapping her but instead decided to talk to her. “Am I not talking to you Fila?”

She ignored her and kept reading something on her phone. “It has gotten to this abi? Ok oh!
