CHAPTER FIFTY-FOUR: APPEARANCE OF QUEEN MONA ( UNVEILING TRUTH )

I stood alone in the lush, blooming garden of the palace, gazing at the vibrant flowers and listening to the gentle rustling of leaves in the breeze. The scent of jasmine hung in the air, a fragrance that usually brought me comfort. But today, it was different. Today, I was not alone for long.

As I turned to walk away from the fragrant jasmine, I heard a soft, sultry voice behind me. “King Muchen, it’s been too long.”

I turned to see Queen Mona, Her blond hair cascaded down her shoulders, and her emerald green eyes sparkled with a mischievous glint. She wore a crimson gown that clung to her figure, leaving little to the imagination. Mona had always known how to use her beauty to her advantage.

What bothers me is why she is here.

“Mona,” I replied, my tone cool and composed. “What brings you here?”

She approached me, her steps slow and deliberate. “Can’t a queen visit her former husband?”

I couldn’t help but let out a small, humorless laugh. “You and I both know that’s not why you’re here.”

Mona smiled, a seductive smile that I have always hated, her presence is something I loath with passion “You always did see through me, Muchen.”

I took a step back, creating some distance between us. “What do you want, Mona?”

She moved closer, her eyes locked onto mine. “I want to come back to the palace, Muchen. I miss being by your side.”

I crossed my arms over my chest, a defensive gesture. “You are ridiculous, by my side?….have you lost your mind”

Her gaze never wavered as she closed the gap between us. “I made a mistake, Muchen. I regret leaving you I want to make amends.”looks like she has regained her memory

I sighed, my frustration growing. Mona was a master manipulator, and I had fallen victim to her charms in the past. But I had changed, and I was no longer the man who could be easily swayed by her.

“Mona, you had your chance,” I said firmly. “Simply because you have regain your memory, that doesn’t give you any right to come to my presence and speak such nonsense ”

She reached out and placed a hand on my chest, her touch lingering. “Lord Muchen, we were once so good together. Don’t you remember the passion we shared?”

I gently removed her hand from my chest and took a step back. “That was a long time ago, Mona. We can’t change the past.”

Her expression shifted from seductive to pleading. “Please, Muchen. I’ll do anything to be with you again. Just give me a chance.”

I shook my head, my resolve unwavering. “Hmmm, you really disgust me”

She looked hurt, her bottom lip quivering slightly. But I couldn’t let her manipulation affect me anymore” leave my palace ”

Without another word, I turned and walked away, leaving Mona standing alone in the garden, her hopes of reconciliation shattered.

Queen Mona found herself alone in the garden, lost in a sea of despair. The recent attempt to seduce King Muchen had ended in humiliation, and I couldn’t bear the weight of my failures any longer. I had lost my place as queen, and the love I once held seemed to slip through my fingers like grains of sand.

As I sat beneath the shade of a massive oak tree, the crimson layers of my gown pooling around me, I couldn’t help but think about how to win back Muchen’s affection. My mind churned with schemes and plots, each darker and more devious than the last. I envisioned tarnishing Queen Jing’s reputation, manipulating the courtiers, and sowing chaos within the palace.

But just as I was consumed by my malevolent thoughts, an unexpected presence startled me. Before me stood Lady Margaret, a wicked smile curling her lips. her presence now felt even more ominous.

“Queen Mona,” she purred, her eyes gleaming with knowledge.

I scrambled to my feet, my heart pounding with apprehension. ” what do you want?”

Margaret’s soft chuckle sent shivers down my spine. “I have been observing you closely.”

Suspicion welled up within me. “Observing me? Why?”

She took a step nearer, her smile unyielding. “Because, my dear, I see in you a kindred spirit, someone who desires power and will stop at nothing to attain it.”

A strange mix of curiosity and dread washed over me. “What do you mean?”

Margaret inched closer, her voice a mere whisper. “I believe we can be of assistance to each other, Queen Mona. I possess information that could be invaluable to you—information about Queen Jing and her concealed past.”

My curiosity intensified, and I took a cautious step toward Margaret. “What information do you have?”

Margaret leaned in even closer, her eyes filled with malice. “I know the truth about Queen Jing’s past, a secret she herself recently learnt”

My heart raced with anticipation. “Tell me, then.”

Margaret’s eyes sparkled with malevolence. “You surely do not assume that I will tell you such secrets easily”

My mind raced with possibilities. Exposing Queen Jing’s secret could drive a wedge between her and King Muchen. It might be my chance to reclaim my position as queen and the love I had lost.

“Share everything with me,” I demanded.

” Not so easily Mona, I know you remember everything about your past life ” she step closer ” you know why I despise you ”

A nagging suspicion crept over me. What bring her here in the first place what could she possibly expect in return?

I took a cautious step back, my eyes never leaving Lady Margaret’s calculating gaze. “Lady Margaret, your words are intriguing, but I must admit, your sudden appearance and willingness to divulge such sensitive information leave me suspicious.”

Lady Margaret’s smile never wavered, but her eyes darkened with an undercurrent of threat. “I understand your caution, Queen Mona. But I never said it will come easily to you.”

I held my ground, determined to get to the bottom of her motives. “How did you even gain access to the palace?”

She offered a cryptic response. “My presence here is inconsequential. What matters is the opportunity that lies before us.”

I couldn’t shake the feeling that something was amiss. “What do you expect from me in return for this information? Why are you revealing this secret now?”

Lady Margaret’s voice grew colder, her eyes narrowing. “I expect your cooperation, Queen Mona. With the truth about Queen Jing’s past in your hands, you will have leverage that could be invaluable in the future.”

I knew better than to trust someone with such murky intentions. “And what guarantee do I have that you won’t use this information against me or betray me in the end?”

A chilling smile curled upon Lady Margaret’s lips. “You have none. But remember, Queen Mona, the enemy of your enemy can be a powerful ally. Think carefully about what you stand to gain.”

With those enigmatic words, Lady Margaret retreated into the shadows, leaving me alone in the garden, my mind in turmoil. The revelation about Queen Jing’s secret had opened a door to uncertainty, and I couldn’t deny the allure of possessing such knowledge. Yet, Lady Margaret’s motives remained shrouded in darkness, and I knew that making any deals with her could lead to dire consequences.

As I pondered my next move, I couldn’t help but wonder if there was a way to use this newfound information to my advantage without falling into Lady Margaret’s treacherous web of deceit. The palace was fraught with secrets, and I was determined to navigate its treacherous waters, no matter the cost.

Over the following days, I found myself in a constant state of turmoil. Lady Margaret’s cryptic disclosure had left me torn between the desire for power and the fear of becoming entangled in her sinister plans. I knew that the truth about Queen Jing could be a valuable weapon, but at what cost?

As I roamed the palace corridors in secret, my thoughts consumed by the secrets that lurked within these walls, I couldn’t help but wonder if there was a way to use this information strategically, without succumbing to Lady Margaret’s manipulations. My loyalty to King Muchen was unwavering, to be honest to myself, all I want or need is Muchen love, he belongs to me….I created the need of power in him.

One evening, as the palace was bathed in the soft glow of twilight, queen Jing absence was starting to worry everyone, it’s been a week.

I received an unexpected message from Lady Margaret. A sealed envelope appeared on my desk, bearing her distinct emblem. With a mixture of curiosity and caution, I opened it to find a handwritten note.

“Meet me at the secret chamber beneath the palace tomorrow at midnight,” the message read. “There is much more you need to know.”

The prospect of further revelations both intrigued and terrified me. Could Lady Margaret truly be offering more information, or was this a trap? I had to tread carefully, for I was playing a dangerous game with forces I could barely comprehend.

The following night, guided by torchlight, I ventured into the hidden chambers beneath the palace. It was a labyrinth of tunnels and passageways, a testament to the palace’s rich history and its many secrets. At the appointed time, I reached a dimly lit chamber where Lady Margaret awaited.

Her eyes bore into mine, a mixture of determination and malevolence. “You came,” she observed, her voice as cold as ever.

I met her gaze with unwavering resolve. “I need answers, Lady Margaret. Answers about Queen Jing and your true intentions.”

She nodded, seemingly satisfied with my response. “Very well. There is much you don’t know, Queen Mona, and it’s time you learned the truth. But I need you to do something in return”

” What do you mean ”

CHAPTER FIFTY-FIVE: ESCAPE FROM THE DUNGEON

I found myself in total darkness, my body aching and battered from the torment Lady Margaret had inflicted upon me. Coughing up blood, I knew I had to find a way out of this wretched dungeon.

As I strained my eyes to adjust to the dim light, I realized I was chained to a damp, stone wall. My wrists and ankles throbbed in agony or one could say pain, but I couldn’t afford to give in to the pain. Every breath I took was a struggle, but it fueled my determination to survive.

I have passed through enough, I couldn’t even get to the final stop of why lady Margaret hate me so much, she always mumbled something about me supporting her to kill Muchen.

Does that mean I know her, when I was crystal, I talked to her? All these thoughts aren’t helping, I have to find a way to get out of here…..as soon as possible.

The chains that bound me felt like iron vipers, constricting my every movement. I tugged at them, my strength decreasing, but they refused to yield. Panic threatened to overtake me, but I pushed it down. I can’t go down like this.

I had to think, to find a way out of this nightmare. My gaze avert around the dungeon, searching for any sign of weakness in my prison. There, in the corner, I spotted a rusted metal rod.

With trembling hands, I reached for the rod and began working at the chains, prying and pulling with every ounce of strength left in me. It was slow and painful, I could feel all my bones reacting in pain, my eyes starting to get dizzy once more.

Minutes felt like hours as I fought to free myself. The pain was unbearable, but I couldn’t stop. Finally, with a desperate, final tug, the chain on my left wrist gave way, and I collapsed to the ground, gasping for air.

I wasn’t free yet. My other wrist and both ankles were still bound, but I had a glimmer of hope. Using the freed hand, I resumed my efforts, knowing that time was not on my side.

I hiss the moment my fingers bled, and my body trembled from the pain, maybe I did make a mistake, I shouldn’t have stop Muchen from coming to save me, doubt about the possibilities of escaping this place fill my head, my strength was already fading away, I could hardly breath.

but I refused to relent. Till the chains gave way and I was free.

Weak and tired, I slowly pushed myself up from the cold, damp floor. My body protested every movement, but I had to escape. I couldn’t let Lady Margaret’s get to me.

Cautiously, I ventured deeper into the dungeon, searching for a way out. The winding corridors were filled with skeletons, but I couldn’t afford to get lost or scared. My breath came in ragged gasps, indicating how exhausted I am.I could hear the echoes of my own footsteps in the suffocating silence, which surprisingly brought fears into my body.

I gasp and cried out the moment my feet step on a nail, the pain was too much to bear, everywhere so dark that I could hardly see a thing…. Falling down to my knees, I cried and bite my tongue before having the strength to pull out the nail, blood gush out.

Tearing my cloth, I use it to wrap my injured foot before standing up once more, I spotted a faint glimmer of light. It was a small, barred window, a thin sliver of hope. Summoning the last of my strength, I reached the window and looked outside.

Moonlight streamed in, casting shadows on the stone walls. I was out of the dungeon. It was a start, a fragile thread of freedom.

I didn’t hesitate to jump out of the small window, no other thought was in my head as of that time, my gaze dart around the whole place, I was standing in a forest, the dungeon is located close to the forest? I remember just falling into wall in the tea party hall not here.

Looking around, I tried my best to get back on my feet and run into the woods, I have absolutely no plans of letting lady Margaret get hold of me again.

I ran as fast as my tired legs could carry me through the dense forest. My body ached, and each step was painful. But I couldn’t stop.

Footsteps behind me, alerted me of the possibilities of someone running after me, fear creep into my body and suddenly, I felt a wave of dizziness wash over me, and my vision blurred. I stumbled and had to grab onto a tree to keep from falling. My injuries throbbed with renewed intensity, the pain was too much for me to handle and I knew I couldn’t go on much longer.

I forced myself to keep moving, but my body had other plans. My eyes grew heavy, and I could feel consciousness slipping away. I was about to collapse when I heard a voice.

I wondered if it was lord Muchen, did he come for me? I don’t want him to see me in this state, no I planned to return without his help but that was just wishful thinking.

Why didn’t I realized how weak I am?

“Are you alright?”

I blinked, trying to focus on the source of the voice. My gaze met that of a tall, dark-haired man with brown eyes. He looked concerned, but his words sounded distant, like they were coming from far away.

It strike me, wave of relief and sadness hit me, that isn’t lord muchen but a stranger I know not of.

I opened my mouth to reply, but all that came out was a weak murmur. The pain in my body was overwhelming, and my eyelids closed. I felt myself falling, but strong arms caught me before I hit the ground.

The last thing I remembered was the sensation of being carried in the stranger’s arms before darkness consumed me entirely.

Muchen sat in his study room, my mind has been consumed by thoughts of Jing. It had been a week since she had disappeared, and her absence weighed heavily on my heart. I couldn’t focus on anything else. Her laughter, her smile, her presence – all were conspicuously absent from the palace.

Am I doing the right thing? Is leaving Jing alone the right decision? I should have gone to her, I know she is still alive, given the fact that am not dead yet.

But a week is a long time, I should find her.

As I brooded, Li-Mu entered the room. His eyes held anger and frustration as he stared at me, and he growled in a low tone, “My lord, it’s been a week, do you really think keeping your words is important right now?.”

His words struck me like a dagger to the heart. I had indeed failed Jing. My duty as her husband and as king was to protect her, yet I had allowed her to be taken away. Knowing fully well how strong lady Margaret is.

Regret washed over me, and I knew I had to take action. I had no idea how or where to start ” don’t think that this is what I wanted, Jing is my wife ”

” Then you should have done something about it ”

” Do not lecture me!!! ” I growl, my anger resurfacing ” I am still your king ”

” Milord, even kings lose their way”

I stood up abruptly, determination coursing through me. “Li-Mu!!! Do you possibly think you are better fit for this position than I am? Do you think I love the fact that Jing is passing through all that pain? Do you think I enjoy all these?”

” Then why stay idle, why not find her!!!”

” She made me promise!! she made me promise not to find her, she said she will return” I couldn’t believe myself, a tear drop from my eyes, a single tear but it was shocking ” I have made a grieve mistake and I must correct it”

Li-Mu’s expression softened, and he nodded in approval. “It’s about time, my lord. We will bring her back.”

I knew not of her location, they have to be a way to get to her, if I can get hold of Alexander, I will know where she is ” get fang for me ”

” You speak of queen Jing maid?”

” Yes, she is the centre of all these” With that, I left my study, the weight of my regret driving me to take action and find the woman I loved. I stop moving at that thought.

Woman I love?
