CHAPTER EIGHT: THE BALL 1 ( HIS LITTLE GAME)
waking up with a slight headache, I look at my left and stare at the bright light radiating into my room, it is probably morning and I feel so weak right now, my neck still hurts.
Getting up, I move towards my mirror and stare at my reflection, I look pretty pale too, did something happen to me last night? The knock on the door made me snap out of my thoughts.
” Milady ” hearing fang voice I exhale
” What is it ”
” Queen Mona ask me to inform you of her arrival later today ”
” Come in fang” moment the words left my mouth, she open the door, step in and close it shut “What is it ” hauling close to my table, I pull out the chair and sit down, eyes still on my reflection ” it seem something urgent happened in queen Mona quarters ”
” What do you suppose happened?”
” I think queen xiang cause a commotion there last night ”
” Commotion?”
” Spreading words that you are using queen Mona to get to the king and you will kill the child with your hands ” after hearing those words, I run my hands through my hair and breath out.
” Why didn’t you say anything last night?”
” You were down milady ”
Oh yes, I got back crying, why do I have so much to deal with and that too, in a day? ” I should be meeting the queens today right?”
” Yes milady ”
” Arrange my dress and my bath, I want this done as soon as possible ” relaxing on the chair, I turn my head slightly, then stare at the tiny holes in my neck, what’s that? Mosquito bites? And that dream I had last night.
Since my mother died, yesterday was the first time I dreamt of her, why now? And what does she mean by waking someone up and hunger? What hunger? Am I getting mad and insane due to stress?
” Your bath is ready milady ”
It took me forty minutes to get ready and dressed ” what did I plan on talking about today fang?”
” Queen Mona pregnancy milady ”
” Oh yes ”
Stepping out of my quarters, fang hold the umbrella over my head while ten other maids walk behind me….towards the queen meeting room ” when was the last time the king visited the concubine chambers?”
” Last month milady ” fang responded ” and they are hoping you address this issue to the king, they feel neglected”
” How many are they again?”
” Fifteen milady ”
” Sent letters to them later, I will be holding a meeting later on their behave ”
” Yes milady ”
” Not you fang ” I stop and look back ” you, the new maid, hurry up and send the letter ” she bends her head before running along .
Arriving in the small hall, all the queens stood up the moment I step in, queen hua, queen xiang, queen li-cha, and queen Mona ” morning queen Jing ” they are greeted and I smile.
” Have your seat” I mumble after I sit down and stare at queen xiang ” I heard about the commotion you caused last night ” frowning I furrow my brows” I expected you to act more maturely about this ”
” With all due respect queen Jing ” xiang smile ” I only said what you told me”
” Queen xiang ” li- Cha frown ” you’re off limit here, even if you are higher in status compare to queen Mona, you have no right to ruin her evening that way, she is with a child ” li- Cha and Mona have always been close, her fighting for her is noted.
” Is this meeting all about queen Mona and her child ” hua frown ” I was here to bring up the issue of the king not visiting other queens or concubines”
Just as I thought, all these meeting are always stressful ” queen Jing ” hua look at me ” say something, concerning this issues ”
” The king hardly visit queen Jing, so why stress her with such things ” xiang growl ” we should be asking Mona for that not Jing ” oh and yes, xiang has always angered me during these meetings.
” Queen xiang ” looking at her, I fold my hands ” will you shut your mouth and let me say some few words” I watch how she clench her teeth before sipping her tea ” concerning queen Mona child, I will advise all the queen to remain innocent, nothing Should happen to queen Mona, I know they are few of you that wish for the child death ” my gaze move to hua and xiang ” I will advice you to refrain from such thoughts” lifting my cup, I drink from it then drop it slowly, before speaking more on the topic ” concerning the king visitation, I do not think I will be of much help, just like xiang said ” my words seem to have made her smile ” and am sure queen Mona can not be of any help, right?”
” You’re right my queen ” Mona mumble and I smile inwardly, what a good and loyal dog.
” We will have to wait patiently and see what the king is up too, and then queen Mona ball is happening tomorrow evening, all the decoration should be taken care of by queen xiang and his while li -cha take care of the food area ”
” What about queen Mona ” xiang furrow her brows at that.
” The ball is about her xiang ” I frown ” if you weren’t barren, you should have been the one pregnant ” after that, I stand to my feet and stare at the hatred in her eyes ” now excuse me ”
” Queen Jing ” xiang stand to her feet and stare at me ” take back your words”
” My words?” All the other queens stand to their feet at this point ” what do you mean ”
” I will not stand here and receive your insults ”
” You mean, you are not barren?”
” Queen Jing!!!”
” Xiang!” I frown ” you will call my name with respect” at my burst she step back, hands clench ” I do not want to hear more complains from you, I respect you because you are also a queen but know your place!” Exhaling, I look at them ” disrespectful” turning around, I blink at the sight of lord Muchen.
Why is he here? Oh yes, he has come multiple of times to see queen Mona or to snatch her away from these meetings.
” Milord ” Mona step forward” you’re here?” He look at her with a smile
” Yes milady ” then his gaze move back to me ” queen Jing, a moment ” the queens gasp at that and I frown, is he here to collect the documents I stole from him?
Lost in thought I had no idea when he step so close ” my queen ” I had to look up to meet his gaze ” come with me ” he didn’t wait for my response, before grabbing my hand and taking me out of the meeting hall
” Lord Muchen, what is this about ”
” I need to have a word with you ”
” With me? Concerning what?” Maids are starting to look and talk now ” about what?”
” Our child ” he said that loud, he did that for people to hear.
” What are you taking about ” I pull my hands out of his and he smile, looking down at me.
” Everyone one will think you’re pregnant now Jing” what will he get from these ” if you hand those documents back, I can make it all go away, if not in nine months time, you are expected to bring a child to this word ”
I frown ” lord Muchen ”
” You wanted to play this game right?” Clenching my hands I stare at his face, those eyes are still red ” I will show you who is better at it ” before I could process everything, he kiss me, right in the middle of the palace, where everybody can see then left.
Leaving me with flush cheeks, beating heart and clench fist.

CHAPTER NINE: THE BALL 2 ( HIS LITTLE GAME 2)
” Milady?” Fang move closer to my direction, confusion written boldly on her face ” you’re pregnant?”
” Don’t be silly fang” looking around my surroundings, I exhale when I realized how many concubines where watching, they will all think I kept this a secret ” I think lord Muchen has mistaken me for queen Mona” I said it loud enough for people to hear ” his illness seem to be getting worst, after all these days, I thought he was under treatment”
Fang whisper ” am confused milady ”
” Don’t worry about it ” turning around, I head towards the royal library ” I just need today to be as usual, me reading my favorite book after a horrible meeting ”
” As you wish my queen ”
The walk towards the royal library was long and stressful, I was beginning to regret not using the carriage but then, the umbrella is helping me alot ” finally ” I mumble when I step in and look at all the books, when will I get to finish them ” leave ” they all left, Including fang and I finally got the opportunity to behave like I wanted to.
Swirling around, I giggle, climb the stairs to the second floor before pulling out my new novel, I can’t possibly wait to read ” fallen angel ” it must be about Lucifer.
My legs slowly take me to the chair close by, I sit down gently then open the first page, minutes passed by, hours, seconds. however I still wasn’t bored or hungry.
” What do you ponder about Lucifer?”
” I see no crisis in him trying to take over his father ” I mumbled ” everyone has pride, but how could his own father send him to such a horrible place, like hell ”
” He tried killing his father ” his voice calm as he spoke ” isn’t that reason enough?”
” Lord ju-li ” I turn around I stare at him ” that is not reason enough, what if someone had brainwashed him ”
” Listen to yourself ” he sit down, those dark eyes of his have always stare at me in ways I can’t apprehend. Lord ju-li just happened to be lord Muchen cousin who reside here.
He apparently love spending his days in the library and each time, I come here, he spends his day with me, his long red hair always rolled up and pinned compare to his brother.
” You probably like Lucifer at this point ”
” He is a handsome man ”
” You don’t know what he looks like ”
” He is described perfectly in the book ” I pout at his laughter after my words, standing up, I move closer, in attempt to show him the spot, the writer describe him ” see, long red hair, golden eyes and red lips ”
” I should probably fix a golden eye, then I will look like him ” I withdraw then stare at lord ju-li, he certainly has red hair and red lips ” what? Are you starting to fall for me too?”
I furrow my brows ” don’t dream high lord ju-li ”
” Hurtful words as always, milady ” he smile and roll my eyes.
” Your words can’t work for me, I have a handsome husband ”
” Oh yes, rumor has it….you’re pregnant ” his tone suddenly turn cold ” how did that happen ”
” I believe, it’s called sex. Lord ju-li”
” I sometimes forget you’re a married woman ” at this point, I couldn’t read here anymore, he is distracting me. Closing the book, I drop it on the table then fold my hands ” you look offended ”
” You do know your words are not helping ” I frown ” I have always been a married woman, kindly leave, I wish to continue my book ”
” Milady ” he look at me, I just can’t understand what this man thinks most time ” in queen Mona ball, I will like a dance with you ”
” Why are you making a dance, such a big deal ” I relax ” of course, I can dance with you ” he stand to his feet and move closer, position his both hands on the chair handle, placing me in the middle.
” Queen Jing ” he smile ” I also desire to kiss your neck ” my eyes widen at that, everyone know what a kiss to the neck means, intimacy.
” You must be joking ”
” I dare not say such words from my lips to you as a joke, milady ” he lean close ” surely you do not think that I spend most of my days here with you, because am running from people”
” You are not?”
He chuckle ” I enjoy your company ”
” Don’t be ridiculous” I watch him, withdraw, then i exhaled ” I will pretend, I heard no such thing from your mouth.”
” Pretend all you want milady ”
Grabbing my book, I stand to my feet, prepared to leave the library. but, his hug from behind stop me, my eyes open wide ” milady, please consider leaving my brother, he do not deserve you ”
” Let go of me ” turning around, I slap him right across his face ” you should have respect for me, if word get out, of you hugging me, my reputation will be ruined ”
” Jing ” it was the first time, he called just my name, I part my lips to speak but he beat me to it, grabbing my hand, pulling me close, he kiss my neck.
I was speechless and my cheek redden ” lord ju-li ”
” Jing ” he withdraw and stare at me ” I on the other hand will treat you with love, I desire you milady, choose me ” I blink at his words….what have suddenly gotten into him.
My heart won’t stop beating fast ” you must have gone insane ”
” Indeed milady ” he step closer, hands on my cheek ” let me kiss you, even if it’s once….hearing about the possibility of my brother touching you, is killing me inside ”
” What do you mean ”
” Jealousy milady ” he lean close ” am jealous”
” Milord, I got the documents from her chambers, just as you requested “li-mu step into my study room, I didn’t bulge from the window, the tree this year seem so beautiful ” what do you plan to do with queen Jing ”
” Do?”
” I thought you might wish to end her ”
” Indeed, that was my first thought, but things can’t go as you wish forever ”
” What do you mean?” Turning around, I look at li-mu ” are you saying, you wish for her to say around?”
” Indeed” pulling out my chair, I sit down carefully ” it seem I will need her inorder for me to survive but then, it will be nice to trouble her life a little more ”
” Trouble ”
” I heard lord ju-li, loves my wife ”
” Yes milord, the whole servant speaks of how he leaves whatever he is doing to spend his day with her, in the library”
” She probably in the library right now and he should be there ” I smile at that ” I need you to spread rumor of a maid, getting a glimpse of them kissing ”
” As you wish milord ”
” I need it to be everywhere before eight PM”
” Permit me to ask milord ” li-mu look at me ” for what reasons will you wish to tarnish her image?”
” Tarnish? ” I chuckle ” it’s probably happening right now, I mean her heart is beating so fast that I could hear it, what else will make a woman heart beat this fast ” I clench my hands at that ” that too a married woman ”
” Milord?”
” Make sure, everyone thinks queen Mona spread this rumor ”
” Queen Mona? ” Li-mu look confused ” that will make them enemies and who knows, queen Jing might do something about Mona pregnancy ”
” It will make my work easier too ” closing my eyes, I exhale ” li-mu, you should stop calling me your lord, we are brothers after all?”
” You are the king ”
Opening my eyes, I stare at his head bow down ” when last did you drink ?”
” A month ago”
” I will arrange women to satisfy your needs tonight”
” Thank you, milord ” and then he left.
am here doing all these stupid king duties and she is over there kissing another man? If our heart isn’t linked, I probably won’t have known.
Even if she is my object, behaving this way isn’t lady-like.
Is this what she plan on doing inorder to birth a child in nine months? How preposterous.
” She truly disgust me ” I said those words through clench teeth.
