There’s nothing hidden that won’t be found and nothing concealed that won’t be revealed, all it takes is time and it will definitely come to light someday. Who would have thought that two enthusiastic and zealous students pursuing a higher degree in cosmetology will be the ones to find out about the precious anti-aging plant that has been hidden in a tunnel for over a century. Despite the fact that they weren’t yet sure if the plant was extinct or not, facts still remains that the plant was no longer a secret. Not anymore!
A cozy night that would have ended with Derrick confessing his feelings to Claire, went towards another direction with his feelings still concealed but the good thing was that they had discovered something amazing together and it was kind of worth it for Derrick.
As the two lovebirds sat beside each other still in awe of their findings, they couldn’t find the right words to properly express themselves. “To be honest, I read about this anti-aging plant that stops the hands of time in a person’s physical appearance but thought it was a myth in the beauty world. Last week, I stumbled upon a book here in the library that threw more light on that mysterious plant. I started researching intensely and my researches led me from one book to the other till this very last one that has confirmed this myth and for the first time ever, I know how this mysterious plant looks like and I believe this is the only photo of this plant still available in our time. This is amazing and I feel so happy that we did this together” Claire happily said.
On the other hand, Derrick was happy as well and congratulated Claire for a job well done even though he helped a great deal with the findings. “Nice one dear and I’m so proud of you. I first heard about this plant when I came to this school to further my career as a skincare formulator and I guess it was in one of Mrs Eva’s classes. Someone asked a question about this myth and she was quick to dismiss the question by telling us that the plant was only a myth and never existed. The student who asked the question persisted with facts and I think he got on her nerves with his constant factual questions proving that the plant existed. The class was dismissed impromptu that very day and the student was reported dead the next day. The cause of his death is still a mystery. I didn’t invest much attention or emotions to that incident because I was only a fresher here and didn’t know anyone that well. After that day in class, I never heard about the plant neither did I bother to research on it so I must commend your good works because you have done well” Derrick said.
That little story from Derrick gave Claire mixed feelings about the plant: a mixed feelings of excitement and fear. She began to wonder why the student died after making inquiries about the plant and it gave her goosebumps as her thoughts wandered to the possibility of a bad omen surrounding the plant she just discovered. Despite being a bit scared, she didn’t let it discourage her zeal to know more.
“Knowing that this plant exits is one thing but actually finding it could be a fruitless quest. For all we know, this plant might even be extinct and completely wiped out of the surface of this earth. It probably didn’t make it to the 21st Century” Claire said in a doubtful tone. On seeing that she was about to ruin her happy moment, Derrick thought it was best they ‘call it a day’ and continue their quest some other time. “I think you have done enough for today and need to rest. Why not retire for the day, refill and continue some other time. I am with you on this quest and will be with you till you are satisfied with your findings but I think you need to rest for today so you don’t jeopardize your happiness for discovering a thing such as this. I think it’s time we leave the library and go home” he said.
Without hesitating, Claire agreed it was time to go home and she left with Derrick. They walked through the lonely campus streets filled with beaming street lights. As they walked farther away from the library, Derrick stretched one of his hand and held her cold hand. He ins**ted his fingers into hers and locked their hands together. Claire was a bit shy and began to blush. Derrick knew she was shy and moved even closer and wrapped his other hand around her shoulders. “Are you feeling cold?” He asked and she nodded ‘Yes’. Without hesitating, he removed his hoodie and wore her; leaving him with a polo that was enough to shield him from the cold weather.
The kind gesture from Derrick made Claire fall even deeper in love with him and at that point, she wondered why they weren’t officially a couple yet. She was head-over-heels in love with him but was scared that he didn’t feel same way. If only Claire had even the slightest clue that Derrick was dying within from not confessing his feeling to her yet and if only she knew that he had fallen deeply in love with everything about her and couldn’t wait to make her officially his, then I believe she would’ve had a rethink for ever thinking that he didn’t feel same way.
As they got closer to Claire’s house, Derrick’s heart began to pound even faster because it meant she would be away from him till whenever they met again that week. It was always tough for him whenever she had to go and this unrest made him more convinced that she was the one he had been searching for.
When they got to the front of Claire’s apartment building, it was sadly time to say goodbye. She looked into Derrick’s eyes and stretched her hands to remove his hoodie she was wearing. “No, keep it” he said when she was about taking it off. Suddenly, the atmosphere became to get tensed for the two lovebirds. Derrick’s hands were shaky and he knew it was as a result of the fact that he was concealing his feeling for Claire. He wanted to tell her that very minute that he loved her but was sacred that a lot of things could go wrong due to that single confession.
“Goodnight” Claire gently said and turned to enter in,side the building. Immediately she took one step forward, Derrick held her from behind and pulled her back to him; “I love you so much” he calmly said and her heart instantly dropped. A chilled s-nsation ran through her wh0le body and goosebumps covered her hands.
Without hesitating, Claire replied “I love you too” and before she could say another word, Derrick planted a soft k-ss on her l-ips.
