Melanie’s pov 🧚

Just like I had speculated earlier outside the school gates, heads were turning and whispering among themselves.

I could even hear some of their whispers, some are giving nasty comments, condemning my choice of clothes and cursing me harshly for falling out of glory.

While others were giving envious remarks, complimenting and ogling over me.

Admiring my boldness following my happiness, they were also praising me for choosing to live for myself…instead of following the path designed for me by others.

I smirked at the words they’re whispering, but decided to ignore them, there’s no need for retaliation.

Suddenly, my hand was snatched and I was pulled into a corner, a hand was slapped on my mouth immediately, to prevent me from scre-ming as though the person knew I’m gonna scre-m.

I wanted to bite off the hand and scre-m so people would come, in case it’s a kidnapper.

But I stayed cool when I perceived a very familiar perfume, I smiled because I already knew who it was.

I slapped off her hand.

“Gabby, you didn’t have to kidnap me here” I told her as I adjusted my clothes.

She didn’t reply me, which made me look up and saw her staring at me in great shock. Her mouth was slightly opened, her eyes were also w¡dened in shock and were almost falling off their sockets.

She looked like she’s just seen a ghost.

“Gabby?” I called her.

She reached out, gathered a flesh of my arm in her fingers and pinched me really hærd.

“Argh! what are you doing, Gabs!” I shouted and pushed her hand away.

“It’s.. it’s really you, Lanie?” She asked slowly, in a stutter.

“Of course, who else if not me” I replied.

She stared at me a few more seconds, my hands flew to my ears and covered them… since I already knew what she’s gonna do next.

“Argggggggh!”

Gabby lets out a very loud squeal, if we were cartoon characters I believe the walls would be shaking by now.. in fact, the roofs would’ve come off by now.

“Quit scre-ming or people would think something’s happening to you” I told her.

But she ignored me and continued scre-ming, or maybe she was too shock to stop herself.

I tilted my head and took a peek, a few people were already stopping to see what’s going on.

I quickly slapped my hand on Gabby’s mouth, muffling her scre-ms, then released an awkward laugh.

“You can carry on with your stuff, there’s nothing to see here” I laughed awkwardly.

Some narrowed their eyes, while others glared at us before leaving…what a judgemental school.

I turned back to Gabby.

“Are you gonna stop scre-ming now?” I asked.

She nodded as she muttered some gibberish words, I removed my hand.

As if she’s been waiting for me to free her mouth, she started checking me out immediately with a big smile.

“OMG! Lanie, you’re killing it!” she exclaimed.

“Am I?” I asked.

“Of course! I never thought I’d see you wearing a short skirt and th-gh high boots in this lifetime!”

I laughed a little bit nervously.

“Em.. Gabby, don’t you think you’re exaggerating things a little?”

“Nope! Come with me, let’s sit somewhere decent and talk” she said.

I nodded and followed her out of the corner we were, we walked into an empty class nearby and sat on a desk.

Though, I was the only one who sat down, Gabby was busy checking me out…or should I call this studying me.

She suddenly started clapping her hand, making me stare at her in surprise.

“Good for you, Lanie. You dared come to school late and dressed like this, aren’t you scared of getting scolded by father Patrick for falling out of… ”

She trailed off, then scratched her head as though she’s trying to remember something.

“… how should I say this? Em… ”

Then she clapped her hands when it finally came to her.

“…for falling out of the ways of the lord, and veering away from the righteous path?”

I rolled my eyeballs at her choice of words, she’s just making it dramatic.

“I didn’t veered from the righteous path, I just wanted to be more of myself now” I explained in self-defense.

Gabby laughed.

“Hm, I don’t have time for you yet, our test will start soon and we’re gonna be late if we don’t head to the class now” she said.

“Oh” I got up and flung my bag on my shoulder.

She threw an arm around my shoulder and we headed towards the door, she suddenly burst into a brief laugh.

“Wait until Caleb sees you, he’d be so shocked” she said.

“Yeah, but not as shocked as you were” I replied.

Among the three of us, Gabby’s the only one who loves exaggerating things.

“Whatever, after our test, you’re gonna tell me where you went yesterday, and where you spent last night”

I nodded.

“I also have an embarrassing question for you later” I said.

She halted abruptly at my words, she faced me with a mischievous smirk.

“How embarrassing?” she asked.

I cleared my throat and looked away from her.

“Very embarrassing and Caleb shouldn’t be there when I ask you”

“Oh?”

With Caleb’s presence there, I don’t think I’ll be able to ask her, so it’s best he’s not there.

“Now I’m curious what your question is, can you give me a hint?”

“No, let’s go, we’re late” I said.

I started walking towards the class where our test’s being hold, she quickly rushed after me.

“Come on, just a hint”

“No” I replied firmly, because I know Gabby’s never gonna give up until I drop a hint.

But she knows I can also be very stubborn if I want to, since I have decided not to give her any hint, I won’t.

But Gabby will always be Gabby, she’s not gonna give up.

*….I hope I won’t be disappointed this time, you guys performed very poorly in your last test* our professor complained.

Everyone gro-ned, some of us even rolled their eyeballs and started whispering among themselves.

None of us can meet professor Josh’s standard answers, even I, whom they all regard as the best student of our class.. could barely meet his standard.

He’s such a perfectionist!

*… Melanie got the highest, 45marks out of 70marks, the rest of you need to work h-rder…*

Gabby nudged me and I gave her my attention, she gestured at professor Josh.

“Can you remind him the test is over?” she asked.

“No, thank you, I don’t want a grey hair yet” I answered.

She laughed at my answer, even the girl sitting next to her laughed..which caught professor Josh’s attention.

He zeroed his eyes on us, Gabby and I particularly, he scoffed loudly.

*A lot of you are changing recently, dressing indecently…*

“Lanie, he’s talking about you” Gabby said.

“Tell me something I don’t know”

Professor Josh continued talking for a while, until he’s had enough and decided to call it a day.

He packed his stuffs and left, we also packed up our stuffs and left through the backdoor..since it’s closer to us.

We saw Caleb standing by the front door, he seemed to be waiting for us because he’s looking in,side the class.

“Hey, Ca….” I wanted to call him over, but Gabby stopped me.

“You said you wanted to have a girl talk with me and he shouldn’t be there” she reminded me of my words.

“Yeah, right”

“Let’s go before he s₱0ts us” she said.

She grabbed my hand, then started pulling me along with her.

“WHAT?!!” Gabby shouted.

Involuntarily, my eyes searched the empty class to check if someone is listening, but there’s no one here other than us.

“W-what did you just say?” she asked me.

“I said I wanna learn the act of sed-ction from you” I repeated my words.

“YOU…YOU…WANT TO LEARN THE ACT OF sed-cTION?!” she shouted again.

I quickly slapped my hand on her mouth, I stared in her eyes pleadingly, while she stared back at me with her eyes w¡dened.

Her eyes held pure surprise, curiosity and something I can’t point out.

“Bring down your voice, someone might hear you” I pleaded with her in a lower voice.

Gabby took my hand away from her mouth slowly, she stared at me with her mouth slightly open.

“Lanie, do you know what you’re talking about?” she asked me quietly.

I nodded.

“Yes”

“Do you know what you wanna learn means you’re luring a man to have s£x with you? Do you know it ar-uses s£xual desires?” she asked me again, in an even quieter voice.

I nodded again, this time accompanying it with a small smile.

“Yes, I know, that’s why I wanna learn it”

She blinked rapidly for a moment, then pinched herself and released a low grunt.

“I’m not dreaming?” she whispered.

Not yet convinced, she snatched my arm and pinched me very hærd, making me scre-m loudly.

“Gabby! What are you doing?!” I scolded her and snatched my arm back.

She didn’t say any word, she simply watched me quietly as I rubbed the s₱0t she had pinched.

“Where were you last night? Where did you spend the night?” she asked me when she finally found words.

“Last night..I…I…”

How am I gonna tell her? That I spent the night under a man’s roof? Should I tell her about my boyfriend now?

“Don’t lie to me, be honest” she said.

“I….”

I was fully ready to tell her everything, why am I suddenly chickening out?

“You’ve changed overnight, Lanie”

“I changed?” I asked.

“Yeah, normally you wouldn’t think of wearing something like this…”

My eyes looked down at myself when she said those words, she shook her head and waved her hands.

“Don’t get me wrong, it’s a very beautiful outfit and it looks good on you, but…why are you suddenly dressing like this?” she asked.

I played with my fingers nervously, which she noticed.

“Where did you spend the night?”

She stared at me expectantly, I closed my eyes and inhale deeply… it’s better I tell her once and for all.

“Last night…I spent last night at my boyfriend’s place” I blurted out.

“Wait..what? Say it again”

“I said I spend last night at my boyfriend’s place”

She grabbed my shoulders.

“Your what?”

“Boyfriend”

“Boyfriend?!”

“Yes” I replied with a nod.

She quickly let go of me and released a very loud squeal, I covered my ears and waited for her to finish.

After a few moments, she stopped and smiled widely at me.

“Is that why you wanna learn the act of sed-ction?”

I nodded.

“He’s mad at me and I wanna earn his forgiveness, but I don’t know how to sed-ce someone”

“Wait…hold on, firstly, I think you’re both moving too fast…are you sure he’s not with you because he wanna have s£x with you?” she asked me.

“No, he’s not, he respects my decision”

“Oh”

She nodded.

“Then secondly, where did you meet him? How did you two meet? What’s his name? Do I know him?” she bombarded me with questions.

I sighed.

“You’ve asked me so many questions, which one should I answer first?”

“Er…start by telling me his name”

His name? I think I’m kinda having a picture of her reaction already.
She grabbed my shoulders and urged me to tell her…well, here goes nothing.

“His name is Mr Bright and you first saw him the day father Reed died” I said.

Her grip on my shoulders tightened, she stared at me with a frown. Her head tilted as if she’s recalling something.

“Mr Bright?”

I nodded.

“Is he the same Mr Bright who killed father Reed?”

I nodded again, her smile vanished at once as she stared at me seriously with an even deeper frown.

“Are you crazy, Lanie? How could you date him?!”

I’m not surprised at her outburst, in fact, I had expected something like this to happen.

“Gabs…”

“Have you forgotten so soon? Your dad’s burial was just yesterday and you’re already dating his murderer? Are you out of your mind?!”

She let go of my shoulders and turned away from me, I saw her shoulders rising and falling, which means she’s breathing heavily right now.

I got up and placed a hand on her shoulder, but she shrugged me off. However, that didn’t stop me from saying what I wanna say.

“Gabs, I know he killed my father, but that was because my father did something very bad, Mr Bright wouldn’t…”

I swallowed my words when she turned back to face me, she gave me disappointed look…the shook her head.

“What did he gave to you that made your view about him change overnight? What spell did he cast on you that made you fall in love with him overnight?”

“Gabs, it’s not a spell…”

“Then why are you being blind towards his crime? Have you forgotten what you told me?”

What her I told her? What did I tell her?

“You said you are just gonna look for evidence against him and expose him to the authorities…why did you end up falling in love with him now?” she asked.

I simply shook my head.
I really don’t understand why I fell for him so quick, I just couldn’t stop myself from falling for him.

It’s as if there’s a magnetic force pulling me closer to him, I can’t control it.

“How do you think father Reed would feel watching you from heaven? Don’t you think he’ll be disappointed?” she asked.

“No, I have read the letter he left for me. He admitted to his crime, he knew he deserved death for all that he’s done” I told her.

“Are you defending him? The murderer?”

I shook my head.

“No, I’m not” I answered.

She stared at me with her brows furrowed, she took deep breaths to help herself calm down.

“Gabs, listen, I know you don’t wanna hear anything, but trust me, Mr Bright isn’t a bad man….”

My mind flashed back to our moment at the waterfall, how distant and pained he looked.

“… he’s got his own worries, but he wouldn’t hurt the innocent”

“I don’t care! He doesn’t have any rights to take lives, he’s not God to judge any man”

“I know, but I’ll help him change, I’ll help him find salvation”

She scoffed and sat on the desk,a little bit away from me.

“He’s a heartless killer, no one can change him”

“I can, he listens to me a lot”

“He listens to you?”

I nodded.

“Yeah, he doesn’t whatever I ask him to do.. that’s why I believe I can help him change”

“Hm” she hummed.

We stayed in total silence, she’s staring at me and I could tell she’s thinking, but I can’t tell what she’s thinking.

The silence was so long and uncomfortable for me, because I’m waiting for Gabby’s final decision.

I’m secretly seeking for her approval…after all, she’s kinda the only family I have left. She’s also my only confidant.

“Fine, I’m not gonna oppose your relationsh¡p, but have you considered the risks?”

“What risks?”

She reached forward and flicked my forehead gently.

“This is your first ever relationsh¡p, you’re new to it..are you sure he’s the one for you?”

“Hmm…I don’t know, but I do feel like he’s the one” I said.

“What if he’s not the one? What if he breaks your heart?” she asked.

“I don’t know, maybe I’ll take it like one of my life’s experience. I can’t keep my heart locked up because I’m scared of getting hurt, right?”

She smiled.

“Well, it’s your first relationsh¡p, I’ll just let you enjoy it… let’s see if he tries anything funny, I’ll personally break his legs and disfigure his devilish handsome face!” she snarled.

We both laughed, she’s just making empty threats. She cleared her throat.

“Anyways, let’s begin our class”

“What class?” I asked, checking the door if a professor’s coming in.

“Act of sed-ction!”

“Woo!”

“After that, I’ll take you home and give you some lingeries, I bought a new pair and didn’t know it’s gonna come in handy”

What’s a lingerie? I wondered.

“I know that look, don’t worry, you’ll know it when you see it” she said.

I nodded and we began.

Minutes later….

We’re done with our act of sed-ction class, right now we’re headed towards the exit gates.

“Thanks so much, Gabs”

“Don’t thank me, I don’t know if my suggestions will work” she replied.

“Well, at least you’re better than me” I said.

We shared a brief laugh.
Someone suddenly came in front of us, we stopped laughing and lifted our heads.

“Caldwell?” I called him.

He smiled and bowed respectfully.

“Miss Martinez, Mr Bright asked me to bring you home” he said.

“Oh, alright, but can we drop at my friend’s place first?”

“Of course” he replied.

I turned to Gabby.

“Gabby, join us” I said to her.

But she wasn’t paying attention to me, she’s focused on Caldwell and was staring at him dreamily. She staggered back and I quickly caught her.

“Gabby?”

“Is..is… he’s so handsome!” she exclaimed.

I took a glance at Caldwell, I rolled my eyeballs, he’s not as handsome as my Mr Bright.

“Gabby, let’s get in the car first!” I said and support her towards the car.

If I let her walk on her own, she might fall because her attention right now is on Caldwell.

“Thanks for whatever this is” I told Gabby after collecting the lingerie from her.

“Ye-yeah” she replied with a giggle.

Her eyes weren’t even looking at me, they’re elsewhere, which of course you know where.

I sighed.

“Gabby, I’m leaving, I’ll see you tomorrow at school”

“Hmm” she hummed.

I shook my head, then turned to head back to the car, but she quickly grabbed my hand.

“Lanie, can I come visit you sometimes?” she asked.

“Visit?”

She isn’t coming to visit me, she’s coming for Caldwell…does that mean she’s having a crush on him?

“Lanie, say something”

“Yeah, you can” I replied.

She pulled me into a soul crushing hug, but thankfully she didn’t hug me for too long.

“Miss Martinez?” Caldwell called me, as if to remind me of his presence.

“Gabs, I’ll see you tomorrow” I said and rushed back to the car.

Caldwell drove into the garage and parked the car, I didn’t wait for him to come get the door for me.

I pushed it open and rushed out, I’m so eager to carryout what I learnt from Gabby.

“Miss Martinez… ”

“Caldwell, I’m in a hurry, I’ll talk to you later” I said and ran towards the main door.

I stopped when immediately I heard some noise from in,side, there’s a loud music blasting in,side…but it didn’t prevent me from hearing other sounds.

From outside the door, I could hear giggles in,side the mansion. A female voice is giggling happily.

I turned to Caldwell and gave him a quizzical look, with a small frown on my face.

“What’s going on in,side? Is your boss having a party?” I asked him.

“H-he…he…he…”

My frown deepened at his stuttering words, it’s strange because nobody in this mansion stutters when talking to me.

“He what?” I asked again.

“He…” he cut himself off.

A thought suddenly crossed my mind, Gabby’s words replayed in my mind, but I quickly shook my head in denial.. it’s not it, I’m just being paranoid because of Gabby’s words.

Curiosity got the best of me as I pushed the door open at once, I rushed in but halted abruptly and staggered back slightly.

My eyes grew w¡der than an orange and my mouth fell opened, as my l-ips quivered in great shock.

I can’t believe what my eyes are seeing right now, it can’t be true.
A lady is on Mr Bright, straddling him and k-ssing each other… they’re practically s-cking off each other’s face hungrily.

We just started dating and he’s already cheating on me? Why would he choose to break my heart at such an early stage?

“W-what, what are you doing?” I asked as I pointed an accusing finger at him.

He paused k-ssing her, tilted his head and glanced at me, just for a few seconds.. then continued touching her.

“Can’t you see I’m busy?” He asked me back.

My eyelids twitched as tears suddenly ran down my cheeks, I balled my fist by my side.

“What do you mean?”

He stopped k-ssing her, but didn’t stop her from touching him all over.

“I’m a man and I have desires, you can’t satisfy me, you’re too naive and innocent to satisfy me” he said.

I shook my head.

“Yes, I agree, I was naive and innocent, but not anymore”

“Oh? Really?”

I nodded quickly and desperately.

“I have learnt the act of sed-ction, I can satisfy you know.. please send her away” I said.

“No”

“No? Why?”

“Because I’m enjoying her company” he replied.

My eyes followed her hands as they touched him all over, reminding me of our (Mr Bright and I) rom-nce scene back at the waterfall.

His hands were the once touching me all over, he was so eager to have me but I had to stop him.. could that be why he’s brought another woman over?

“Darling, are you gonna give us some privacy? Or you wanna stay and watch us entertain you?” He asked.

“I…”

“Oh, you can stay and learn how it’s done, you will only understand if you watch us”

The lady glanced at me, she winked at me and giggled loudly. All she knows how to do is giggling.

“Mr Bright, I know I’m new to all these, but I can learn.. I can learn and be an expert, you just have to give me sometime”

“You should know I don’t give people second chances, my darling.. just leave”

“Leave? I thought there’s some kind of bond between us? Aren’t you afraid I’ll do something to myself?” I asked.

He tensed, then snapped his head towards me.

“I don’t care!” He growled.

My brows knitted together, I felt my chest tightening at his words as though someone’s just stabbed me.

He said he love me, is this his so called love?

“Stop deceiving yourself, I don’t love you and I don’t give a dime about you!”

“But you…”

“I just thought you’d make a good f**k, you know f**king a V-rgin is always the sweetest thing!”

He doesn’t love me? He only wanted to have s£x with me?!

“But you’re too righteous, you didn’t let me have my way with you. Now you’re of no use to me, I have no choice but to discard you”

“Then what about me?” I asked.

“What about you?”

“I genuinely love you, my love for you is real. I learnt the act of sed-ction because of you, because I wanted to make you happy”

He burst into an uncontrollable laughter at my words, then mimicked me and scoffed.

“Don’t be so full of yourself, someone like you isn’t qualified to love me… you’re not qualified to stand before me and talk about love!”

“What?”

“I am the devil and I’m not capable of loving anyone, neither is anyone qualified to love me…not even you!”

My eyes closed and more tears rolled down my cheeks, what a fool I am!

How can my father’s murderer fall in love with me? Why did I believe he’d actually keep me by his side without any benefits?

How do I expect my father’s enemy to like me, talk more or less of loving me… Melanie Martinez, you’re such a fool!

“It’s best you crawl back to the cave you came from before I change my mind and kill you, what a usele….”

“Enough, you devil’s son!” I cut him off.

“Darling, I have told you…”

“Don’t call me darling!” I cut him off again. “It’s disgusting when you say it!”

He stopped talking and waited for me to complete my words, I unclenched my fist and wiped my tears.

He smirked when he saw my tears, his eyes followed every drop, then he closed his eyes and looked away from me…he turned his attention to her.

Thankfully, it’s still early, we haven’t done anything special together… I can still leave now before I get more hurt.

“I’ll leave since you want me to, but I don’t have any regrets”

He tilted his head offhandedly, leaning forward to k-ss his companion.

“I’ll take it like you’re just a passenger in my life, whose job is to help me choose my own path…”

“Hm” he cut me off with a grunt, but it didn’t stop me from talking.

“… thank you for that, I hope I’ll never, ever see you again, Mr Bright!”

He spanked his companion and she mo-ned annoyingly, then she turned her gaze to me.

“Useless sl*t are you gonna leave already?!” she snapped at me.

Useless sl*t? I almost laughed at her comment.

“Looking at the two of us, aren’t you the sl*t between us?” I retorted.

“You…”

“Opening your legs for every and any man that comes your way, go read scripture.. even those sl*ts in the bible didn’t have a happy ending.. they’re always doomed to damnation!” I told her.

Yeah, I know I’m not good at comebacks, but I can only fight her with what I have.

“I don’t care about the bible, just get your useless life out already!”

“I… ”

Mr Bright cut me off with a cough, I flinched back when he threw me a glare.

“Are you leaving or not?!” He asked in a dangerously low voice.

I glared at them a few seconds, then rushed out of his mansion.
I was a fool for falling in love with him too quick, I didn’t see through him.

The tears I’ve been fighting to hold back, all came running down.

I need to leave, I need to go far away from here.

I reached for my phone and dialed Gabby’s number, but quickly ended the call when I recalled her words earlier.

She’s gonna mock me, I can’t call her. Caleb is my only choice now, he’s not gonna judge me.

Without wasting time, I dialed his number and he picked up at the first ring.

“Mel, what’s up? I didn’t see you at school today, are you ok?” He asked in a worried tone.

I took a deep breath.

“Come pick me up, I’ll send you the address” I said and hanged up before he could ask me any questions.

Narrator’s pov 🧚

Novo’s estate…

Caleb smirked after hanging up the call, he stared at his phone and nodded.

“Sir, was that her?” Bryant asked him.

“Hm” he hummed in reply.

There’s a moment of silence, as Caleb slumped onto a sofa and twirled his phone on the table.

“I was cracking up my head, trying to find ways to kidnap her”

He paused and scoffed.

“But who would have thought she’d grant us a golden opportunity like this”

“Sir, you mean…”

“We’ll bring her here and we’ll drain her blood!” Caleb said and smirked maliciously.
