Chapter 18
{Grand Finale }

The exams finally came and went. Everything happened in a blur for me, blurry and unexciting.
The day we wrote the last subject, Debbie and Boon yi had invited me to a party hosted by our classmates, I had politely declined, much to their surprise.

“Cori, you’ve been eager for this day ever since we became seniors, what changed? “Debbie asked, staring wide eyed at me.

“nothing Debbie. I don’t think I’ll be in the mood to party after my exams. “I told her tiredly, too weak to explain. I tightened my coat around me. The coat now seemed bigger. I sighed quietly, I had really lost much weight even though I’d never admit it, but I haven’t been eating well. I skipped breakfast today. My parents weren’t home to force me to eat breakfast. Dray god had hastily left to New York this morning.

“But Cori… “I caught sight of honey blond air, dark eyes.

“I’ll be right back Debbie.”I told Debbie hastily, interrupting her. I rushed after her

“Tiffany! Wait up. “I called after her. She didn’t stop, though I was sure she had heard me. I finally overtook her and stood in front of her, preventing her leaving. I felt so faint and dizzy after the little strenuous exercise.

‘Tiffany…”I gasped, crouching down to regain my breath and ward off the dark curls of dizziness that was threatening to engulf me.

“Hey Cori. “she said with a feigned look of surprise. “I didn’t see you there. ”
I bet you didn’t…
She had been avoiding me lately, I wasn’t ignorant to the reason.

‘how have you been?”I asked once I had regained my breath.

“I’ve been fine. You don’t look too well Cori, are you okay?’

“yeah yeah, I’m fine.”
We stared at each other for a long awkward ten seconds.

“well it was nice talking to you Cori, I’ll see you around. “she made no move to walk away.

“I get it now. Dave asked you not to hang out with me?”
She gave a miserable sigh, her shoulders slumping slightly.

“yeah, I’m sorry about that. But I was embarrassed, you know… After everything-“She wringed her fingers like a little girl.

“I understand. “I gave her a small smile. “Everything’s just been messy lately, I’m sorry too. ”

“Yeah. ”
We stood for another awkward ten seconds.

“Good luck in your exams Tiffany. ”

“thank you Cori. You too. ”
We parted ways.

The exam was finally over. I heaved a long, tired sigh of relief. I felt like a heavy burden had been lifted off my shoulders.
I watched, smiling, as my friends danced to Music playing from a confiscated speaker.
They had also smuggled in alcoholic beverages and were now secretly drinking it.
Seems like someone tipped the principal, for he soon came and chased out everyone.
I picked up my bag and headed for my car. Hands kept patting my shoulders and congratulating me.

“See you at the party Cori! ”
“Oh Cori, I’m hosting a party at my house, I want you to be there… ”
“the party’s gon be a blaze! ”
I barely heard them.
I felt so tired, I wanted to go home and strip off my dress, soak myself in a tub of steamy water…
When I finally managed to pry myself away from the throngs of people, I was able to breath properly. It had been suffocating in there. I didn’t see any sign of Debbie and Boon Yi, but…well…they’d still come over to my house.
My legs were wobbly as I got to my car, a strong wave of dizziness hit me and I leaned on the car for support. I fought the strong urge to puke, even though there was nothing in my bowel

“Are you okay miss? “the chauffeur was asking me. He had came out of the car and now stood about three feet from me

“yeah, yeah…I’m just…”

“not been eating enough food. “Someone completed behind me. I was too weak to show my surprise, but I was surprised.
Dave!
What’s he doing here?!

“W…what’s that supposed to mean? “I asked fiddling with my hair suddenly.
He was dressed in a black,shinny coat, black jeans trouser…his hair was sexily messy, they were slightly longer now.

“You are clearly malnourished Cori. ”

“I am not. “I shot out my jaw stubbornly. “What are you doing here by the way? ”

“I…uhm…came to see you… ”
I masked my surprise very well.

“Why? “I asked, clenching my fist so tightly that my fingers dug into my palms.

“I wanted to talk to you… ”
Another wave of dizziness hit me, I held on to the car for support.

“About? ”

“Us? The both of us. I’ve been a jerk and a fool. ”
He had moved Closer to me now, until he was about two feet away from me. I stared at him, too stunned to say anything.

“I’ve been so blind, and I…I…I’m sorry Cori. “he seemed to be short of words.

“You’re…you’re sorry? “I stammered pathetically.

“Yes Cori, I’m sorry for the way I treated you, and I want you to know that I love you. I love you so much. ”
His eyes never left my face, I nearly swooned.
What’s he saying? He loves me. He fucking loves me!
Shouldn’t I be happy about it? Dave loves me!
I made to take a step towards him, my legs wobbled and a strong overpowering urge to retch.
I fell forward and that was the last thing I remembered.

🍭Epilogue 🍭

I woke up, the strong smell of antiseptic informed me that I was in a hospital. I tried to move my hand but felt the needle that was submerged into my skin. I felt so weak, I wondered who brought me here.
A smile formed on my lips as I remembered what Dave had told me. He loves me, he loves me!
My happiness was completed once again.
I was still smiling when the door opened. A smartly dressed walked in, smiling.

“oh you’re awake miss Williams? “she dropped the tray of drugs on the table beside my bed and checked the intravenous drip.

“Just calk me Cori. “My smile wouldn’t even leave my face. She seemed surprised.

“okay Cori, the doctor would be here soon. ”
She was still talking when the door flung open and a woman walked in, a stethoscope around her neck.

“Hey Miss Williams, how are you feeling now? “She asked me with a smile.

“I feel weak, but I’m good.”

“That’s great. My name is doctor Fiona, and I’ll do everything I can to make sure you feel better okay? ”

“yes doctor. ‘

“so you fainted due to the fact that you’ve not been eating well, you look emaciated. And that’s not healthy. Tell me miss Williams, were you intentionally starving yourself? ”
I shook my head and said nothing else. When her probing stare became too intense I had no option than to say something.

“I didn’t feel the urge to eat, I felt less hungry. ”

“Hmm. “the doctor nodded as she hot something down on a piece of paper.

“Well you’re lucky your boyfriend was there to prevent you from falling to the floor, else you’d have had a concussion and… ”

“my boyfriend? “I cut her off with a frown.

‘yes, Dave Hanson, he brought you here. ”

“But he’s not my boyfriend. ”

“that’s funny. He introduced himself as your boyfriend.” I didn’t say anything after that. I was pleased.

“We recommend you eat food, carbohydrates mainly, to regain your strength and… ”
I was soon lost in my world of thoughts, a little smug smile on my lips.
I couldn’t wait for Dave to get here.

I felt someone tapping my arms gently. I moaned softly and pushed the hand away, not wanting my sleep to be disturbed.
I heard a deep chuckle,

“wake up Sleeping Beauty! ”
My eyes flew open.

“Dave! “I cried in joy. He was laughing mischievously. I sat up immediately, I didn’t remember falling asleep. Maybe the doctor had injected me with a sleeping drug.
I hugged him tightly, afraid that if I let go he’ll disappear.

“You feel better now? “he asked as soon as I disengaged from the hug. I nodded shyly, grinning widely.

“my god! You nearly gave me a heart attack, collapsing like that when I was proffesing my love to you.”

“Yeah, about that.”I said. I felt him stiffen.

“You haven’t changed your mind about me now, have you! ”
I opened my mouth so say something, but he interrupted me.

“I understand if your feelings towards me changed. I acted like a fool, and…”

“shut up Dave!’ I snapped impatiently, eager to tell him how I felt. “I still love you, I haven’t stopped loving you ”
I took his hands in mine, he squeezed tightly, looking into my face.

“I love you Cori. when I started falling in love with you, I didn’t want to admit it to myself. I felt it was impossible for me to fall in love with you… ”
I didn’t want to hear anymore, I silenced him with a soft kiss. He pulled me into his arm and deepened the kiss.
We sprang apart when we heard someone clear their throat loudly. I turned a bright shade of red.

“Dad! “I exclaimed, my embarrassment growing more and more.
“Mom?”

“yes Cori.”they didn’t say anything about the scene they had just witnessed
They fussed over me, patting my hair, touching my cheek, asking if I needed anything. Dave withdrew to the background, a happy smile on his face.

“Mom, dad… There’s something I need to tell you guys. “I said, when the fondling was over.
Mom gave me a nod in encouragement. Dad’s face was…i don’t know how to describe it, but I was afraid he wouldn’t like the news I wanted to announce.

“Dave and I are dating each other.” I blurted it out in a rush. Mom, as usual, was excited about it. She started congratulating me and him. Dave looked surprised, I gave him a slight smile. After all he was the first to start it, by introducing himself to the nurse as my boyfriend.

Dad had still not said anything, he had a thoughtful frown on his face. I began to worry, that he’ll disapprove.
Finally his face dissolved in a smile. I breathed out in relief.

“well what can I say? I’m glad things turned out this way. If you guys really love each other, then all I have to say is ‘go ahead ‘”

“Thanks Dad. “I beamed happily at him and then hugged him tightly. Oh I love this man so much!
Finally, when mom and dad went to see the doctor, Dave and I were now alone.
He sat down by the edge of the bed and took my hands in his.

“So you will be my boyfriend? “I asked him teasingly.
We both laughed loudly and then kissed again.

‘Thank god Damian talked sense into me, I wouldn’t have forgiven myself if I had lost you forever…”

“wait! Damian talked to you? “I asked, my voice coming higher than intended.

“Yeah, He said I shouldn’t tell you though. “He grinned sheepishly.

“Well I thought you hated him. “I asked, after I had pulled away from the long kiss he had given me.

“Oh I hated him. But not any more. He’s promised to stay away from Tiffany too. ”

“oh. “I said nothing. Damian had confessed he loved Tiffany, was he joking about that?

I don’t know about that, I shouldn’t worry about that either.
What mattered the most was that Dave loved me, and I loved him too.
And that everyone was happy!
