Divorce Agreement.

Episode 13.

🌷EVA🌷
I knew I made the right choice to drop at Jake’s office and tell him to cut the crap because none of those things are working, I can’t afford to loose Sam.

No way! Never!!

I threw my handbag on his desk and fell into the armchair that awaits his clients, he sat perplexed on his chair and raised a brow.

“Jake, am tired! I hate this, I just don’t think it’s a good idea, after all. Wouldn’t it have been nicer if we were really divorced than all this…” I trailed off and threw my hands up in confusion.

“What happened?” Jake asked adjusting his neck tie and shifting his spectacles to the tip of his nose in attempt to take a closer look at me.

He looked worried. Jake is that bookworm kinda guy and it’s no wonder that he wears specks but that’s only in the confines of his office, not just anywhere and not every time.

It might be helping him in a way or the other according to what I learnt from my doctor but I always laugh whenever he shifts it like now and I think ‘what’s the use?’

But I am not in the mood this morning, he can shift it to his l-ips and it would still not be funny to me with the way my blood is bumping.

“Jake, what else are you expecting should happen before you see that I am not enjoying this wh0le nonsense? What?!”

He lifted his left hand to his face, flicked his five fingers and counted with the right hand, “in how many days? Eva, just two days and you are about to faint?”

“Two nights, two and a half day and you can as well count how many hours and minutes therein, I will die if I have another sleepless night alone in this time of the year!”

“What time of the year?” He removed the eyeglasses and he looked a wh0le lot better, thank God he doesn’t wear it out, he looks funny in them.

“Questionnaire, do I blame you, everyone will claim he’s doing his job! Don’t you feel cold at night? Do I really need to explain bit by bit?” I hissed.

“I still don’t get you, why the sudden rush. I thought we spent four hours over dinner yesterday talking about this same issue, why don’t you wait for Sam to come here and lay a complain?”

I swung the chair around and faced him with all my energy, “Sam, complain? About what exactly? It seems you don’t know the proud man I fell head over heels in love with”

“See, Eva, more reason why you should give him more time alone with his kids. You are not the problem in your marriage, he is the one who even said you have no right to the kids,” he paused.

“Whatever gave him the guts to say that should give him the balls to come back to his senses and beg for you to come back” he added with a shrug.

“I know he crossed the line, Jake but remember that the devil has a way of working, this is a liberal opportunity and I don’t want to be away from them again, I have another alternative”

“And, which other alternative is that?” He asked opening a file in front of him.

“I will go back into my home and we would continue ignoring each other and pretending we are okay in front of our kids, how about that?” I suggested.

“You mentioned this yesterday, it’s not a bad idea but I still maintain you wait until a miracle happens with Sam, he loves you and I believe he is missing you enough for him to last another night without you”

“Jake…”

“Okay, if we wait until tomorrow and nothing happens, I will visit your house with another agreement, is that fine?”

“Gosh, the night is longer without my family in it, okay, I will just wait but tomorrow morning, nothing is stopping me from packing my bags”

“And the money you paid for that house’s rent?” He whined in mockery.

“It can go to hell for all I care!” I breathed.

“This love is so touching and real! I want one like yours, Eva, bless up”

“God has already blessed you with that big br-ast! Don’t let go, I want to drink your anniversary wine soon, Rev. Jake ”

“Yummy!”
I felt better, I was all smiles when I grabbed my bag and left his office to the seaport.

🌷SAM🌷
I had no choice, do I?

Seeing that all their attention are now on the food flask especially when they heard that it came from their mother.

“I am not taking this because I need it, I will just keep it for the children” I said lowly and took the food from Debbie.

“Better, I was thinking I would be forced to walk around the wh0le city looking for Eva, you have to be quick because they are very late to school” She commented checking her wristwatch.

“Yeah, thanks”

She turned to leave and stopped in the doorway, “What about, Kate?” She asked looking around.

“Miraculously sleeping!” I said and even wondered if she’s still sleeping or awake and looking around the bedroom.

“Okay, I will check you guys in the evening, I am running late to work” She said and closed the door behind her.

I gave them the plantain ch¡ps for snacks while I kept the soup for the night. It was almost mid day when I drove them to school.

My Secretary has already called me countless times and I know that I will loose a paying client if I am not seen at the office at once.

I drove back home quickly and showered, I even forgot Kate at the backseat where she was when I took her siblings to school.

I did a lot of explaining to Tyrone’s teacher for he wore a different uniform and I can’t take him to work too, I might die because that young man knows how to waste papers.

When I finally got to the office, I handed Kate over to my Secretary and went into a meeting with the new client, it didn’t take ten minutes before her cries shook the wh0le building.

I know it will happen, she doesn’t allow unfamiliar faces to carry her and she isn’t enjoying the new environment.

The Secretary brought her to me in the middle of the meeting and I got the hærdest time of my life, the client became impatient and he left after some while.

I simply took her to my mother, it’s better to face her than watch Kate cry her soul out and I get hurt.

I left her with my mother and went to Jake’s office, if he says something stupid, his front teeth will k-ss the ground, he would be damned if he does.

I didn’t wait for an invitation to his office even when I saw some clients waiting for their turn to see him, I barged in and met two elderly couple talking intently with him.

“Samuel?” He called in surprise.

“Jake!” I rebuffed glaring at him.

“Young man, don’t you have respect for your elders? Why did you barge into someone’s office in such an ill manner?” The elderly woman asked.

I tapped my foot relentlessly on the ground and stood akimbo. I avoided their peering look. If only they know what am going through.

Jake rounded up with them and they left hissing and snorting and making faces at me, I ignored them and sat down to talk with Jake.

“How may I help you, Sam?”

“What sort of stupid question is that?! See, I don’t care what you wrote in that agreement anymore! Just bring my wife back to me!!”

“Calm down, young man. You are disturbing the peace of others, and I don’t remember holding your wife captive”

“Jake, don’t you dare play with my patience, you know what you did and it’s high time you end it or I kill you with my bare hands!”

“You are threatening me in my office? Do you want me to call the cops on you?”

“Call them! Call the cops and you will explain to them why you chose to break people’s homes!” I sprang up from the chair and held his shirt tight.

“Sam, I will face you man to man and believe me, you can’t stand me, I will beat you to pulp if…”

“Oh! You will beat me? Am ready, beat me!” I tightened my hold on his shirt and he choked.

“Hey, Sam, calm down, I will choke to death,” He begged holding my arms so I would loosen my hold as my hand gradually moved to his neck.

“What do you plan to do about it?” I jerked him backwards and sat down again, he gaped at me.

“You are an animal, Sam. You never change,” He struggled to breath.

“Just sit down and tell me what I want to hear, I don’t have time for child’s play, I hate myself right now!”

“What exactly do you want? I thought you said you want a divorce?” He asked calmly stretching his rumpled shirt.

“Whatever made you believe me, that’s the last thing I want, just help me, should I kneel down and beg for that?” I said lowly.

“There is nothing I can do, the ball is in your wife’s court” he said with a shrug.

“How?” I asked curtly.

“It’s up to your wife, she’s the one person that can decide whether or not she wants this to end or change, you can go and come back tomorrow, let me consult her”

“Are you being serious? You particularly want me to have another awful night alone?!”

“You brought it upon yourself,”

“How early shall I come tomorrow?” I asked him and ignored his blaming it on me, I already know am at fault and now the one loosing.

“I will send you a text when I confirm from her first” that reply got me uneasy.

Now, it’s her that makes all decisions. This is not the time I claim head of the family to avoid another foolish behavior.

I stood up reluctantly and left the office, I had come vibrantly ready to kill and now am the one walking quietly out, I guess the people in the waiting area will be exchanging looks.

I got into my car and drove miles west with no destination in mind, there’s no need going to my office, and I definitely don’t want to go listen to Kate whimper in my mother’s arms.

Eva, I miss Eva. From the very moment she left, I have been craving for her, she’s my medicine.

My sweet Eva. I turned my car and with her in mind, I drove to where I know I must find her.

She’s not far from me, I knew that day she came to my mother’s house with Sandra, I know where she must be.

I can’t wait to see her, touch her and… And we would perform magic together!
