As I walked into the school, she was the first person I saw, Erica, she was standing by the school gate, her arms akimbo, it didnt even matter to her that the school was bristling with activity, people jostling to get into the school, she grabbed the collar of my shirt, her eyes glaring murderously at me
” this is for lying to me, do you think I’m a fool ” heads turned to look at us, she was about to slap me when I held her hand
” I know I lied to you and I’m deeply sorry but aren’t you concerned about my condition ”
She rolled her eyes at me and I brought out the doctor’s report that I begged a nurse to forge for me at dad’s hospital, the nurse was a young pretty thing with gap tooth that couldn’t stop flirting with me.
Her eyes w¡den in shock as she read the report, tears swam in her eyes and she pulled me close to her chest, hugging me tightly
” oh my God! Vikky… you have.. Partial stroke.. ”
I screwed my face into a pitiful mask
” yeah.. I… do…. ”
I was about to smile inwardly when I felt a blinding slap, then the slaps came rushing on all angles of my face, right, left, centre, dizzying slaps, formatting slaps, punches and kicks
” you idiot, you think say I be Mumu , you have partial stroke and you’re still playing football ”
She kicked me in the knees and I gro-ned in pain.
” blood of Jesus! Blood of Jesus!! Blood of Jesus!!! ”
I woke up covered in cold sweat
Jesus!!
So it was a dream!
” what happened bro, why were you scre-ming ”
Jason asked as he opened my bedroom door
I couldn’t answer him immediately, my breathing was irregular and I breathed in and out to regulate my breathing .
” it was a nightmare! ”
I said when I finally found my voice, how can I tell him that a girl had almost killed me in the dreams
Even in the dream, Erica was still her troublesome self
” I think it’s parasomnia, a type of sleep disorder that involves undesirable experiences that occur while you’re falling asleep, during sleep or when you’re waking up”
” look it’s not Panasonic or whatever you called it, you can’t understand ”
My brother was like that, he always had a medical diagnosis for everything, if you laugh too much it’s problem, you don’t smile at all, it’s another problem ”
Jason seated at the foot of my bed and continued like I didn’t say anything
” you should try to sleep more at night, by the way, aren’t you going to school today, it’s seven thirty already ”
Chisos!
I sprang out of the bed immediately!!
Would it even be wise to go to school today?
I thought about lectures, I so much hate those awful classes, I thought about football, that was enough to give me the courage , I can’t miss sports practice for any reason.
Quinton had advised me to take tramadol, he said even though Erica hits me with a plank, I wouldn’t feel a damn thing
But what if I overdosed and hurt Erica
But deep down I wonder if Quinton secretly hates me, the words he said when everyone thought I fainted was kinda shocking.
I don’t want to lose her, no matter how crazy she is, she interests me in a way that no other girl have ever did, she isn’t overly beautiful or anything like that, it was how easily she could change, when I was sweet to her, she was sweet, and suddenly she became this crazy ninja, she makes me angry in a way that no one had ever done.

Last night was the worst sleep ever, I had turned and tossed restlessly in my sleep, waking up at several intervals to ask myself, why had Viktor lied to me, am I a pawn to him, he had made me beleive that he is my hero when all along it was a lie, dammit!! I had adored him!!, I have feelings for him,
I feel.. so ….angry, I’m going to break his bones, but I know I’m only using this anger to cover how hurt I feel.
Jayne must have sensed my mood because we walked wordlessly to school
when we met.
For the first time In a long time, I thought about Keith, but the first thing that came to my mind was the fact that he had cruelly told me to move on with my life, but come to think of it, Viktor had passed the message across to me, what if it’s another lie.
” but that didn’t justify the way Keith acted the last time I saw him ”
I had no idea I said it aloud until Jayne spoke
” about Keith, do you know what’s going on with him because all I could figure out from Mrs Oke was that he had a family issue that he needed to resolve”
My eyes w¡dened at the mention of family issue, a family issue could mean a lot of things
We were distracted by a group of girls that positioned themselves a few steps away from the entrance of our school, they are four, one was dark, her dark skin was literally glowing, she is a stunning beauty, in fact all of them are pretty, one is an albino while the other two were fair, thier uniform was white and it had dots of blue in it, I knew instantly that they are Lifeforte students
” dammit those mean dream girls are here again” Jayne said with a gro-n
” dream girls”
I asked incredulously
It happened all of a sudden, , Tori was trying to enter the school when one of them insulted her.
” hey fat fool aren’t you supposed to greet us ”
Perhaps if I wasn’t feeling angry already I would have had a different reaction
I lunged at the dark skinned girl, determined to give her the beatings that would make her eat up her words, Tori is a very vulnerable person, she is insecure and it takes a little insult about her size to reduce her to tears, I noticed the way she flinched at the insults
I raised up my hand to slap her and I was stopped by the three other girls
” no one touches our dream girl, so back off little girl ”
Is it because I am slender that’s why they’re calling me a little girl
” Erica please leave them alone ”
Jayne said but I tried to push off the girls that are holding me back
” we don’t do violence here, if you think you’re brave enough then participate in our school’s competition but I bet you’re a coward anyway ”
The dark girl said with a smirk
Me Erica oladimeji! A coward? Definitely not!!
” tell me more ?” I said
immediately the girls realized that they couldn’t hold me back and it was best to leave me alone
” you would hear everything from your classmates, and if you think you’re up to it, come to our school for registration, registration ends in two days time ”
She said and her friends, just like a programmed robot, positioned themselves at her sides and catwalked to wherever they’re going to, I didn’t notice the evil grin on their faces.
” Jayne tell me about the dream girl competition ”
” Erica! Don’t tell me you’re interested in it, only a fool will risk his life for twenty million naira and fame ”
” yeah she is right, that competition is dangerous ”
Tori added
I cant just let someone rub insults on my I and my friend like that
” just tell me more ”
I protested
” the dream girl competition was started ten years ago, it’s a dance competition, the competition is sponsored by different companies and the dream girl gets a cash prize of two million naira and she becomes an ambassador of four of those companies, it’s being held in Lifeforte school because they have a standard dance hall, but the Lifeforte schools became greedy, they didn’t want any other person to become the dream girl apart from thier students so they scheme against every other competitor, that dark girl, her name is Monica, she has been winning for the past three years ”
” what so you mean there’s no one that can stop her ”
” There was one girl from our school, her name is Faustina, she started dancing at age five so she’s a professional dancer, she was exhilarated at the thought of the money and all those benefits and she joined with three other girls, Faustina made it to the semifinals….
Jayne paused and her voice broke, I was interested in whatever she had to say and it wasn’t because of the fact that Faustina is my other name.
” what happened to her ”
I asked when I couldn’t bear her silence anymore
” she made it to the semifinals and…and it was obvious that she was going to win… But they pushed her, right there on the stage, she fell down and broke her leg……
Tears rolled down her face and she made no effort to wipe them, Tori squeezes her hand in comfort
” she can’t walk anymore, she is confined to a… wheelchair, she lost her aim in life, she wanted to become an international dancer and those girls made it impossible and the worst part of it is that they’re allowed to go Scott free, they claim there’s no evidence that she was actually pushed that she fell off the stage by herself ”
I clamped my mouth on my face to prevent myself from scre-ming out loud, even Tori looks shell shocked
How could someone be that cruel?
I have a feeling that Jayne must have known this girl very well
” this Faustina, was she your friend? ”
” she is my best friend Erica… And I’m still not comfortable referring to her with the past tense, Faustina couldn’t cope with the fact that she’s now disabled, she poisoned herself… Erica is dead… Erica, dead because of what those girls did to her ”
The tears continued to roll down her face
” at times I want to hurt those girls for what they did to my best friend but.. I.. I’m not brave enough ”
Sadness overwhelmed me, for the unknown Faustina that had such a cruel fate.
I will register for this competition, and I’ll avenge Faustina and every other girl that they had hurt
I know I’m not really good at dancing, in fact my dance move s-cks but this isn’t something that is determined only by how well you can dance, there’s only one girl in this school that I’m sure that she can face them head on and it’s Shanaya!
It’s going to be hærd trying to convince Tori to participate but I will do it!
But how do I get a fourth person?
