A Guy Named Available Episode 23 – 25

I had just relaxed in the movie theatre next to Khetiwe when my phone started flashing. Ndaweni
was calling. I looked at the phone and let it ring as I showed Khetiwe.
‘don’t be too excited.. that’s his ego working” Khetiwe whispered.
“I understand” I whispered back.
When he had quit calling I noticed I had messages on my phone and I checked only to find a
message asking me what movie I was seeing as he too had decided to see a movie.
“Should I reply?” I said as I showed Khetiwe.

“No… but when we leave the cinema you can text him saying your phone was on silent and you
just realised he was calling”
I nodded my head and apparently seemed to enjoy the movie as we giggled all through it. I
enjoyed my popcorn and slush as the movie progressed and I felt refreshed as I stepped out of the
theatre.
“Wow… I’m so proud of you girlfriend” Khetiwe said as we stepped out.
“How so?” i asked.
“Well because I thought you would let your guard down low, I’m proud of you. It hurts to be in such
a position” she said.

I waved my hand in her face and giggled “I am only obeying because I know whatever advice you
give me at this point is better than the pain I’ve been keeping up with”
“that’s my girl.. ok now you can text him to tell him how you didn’t hear the phone”
We were heading down the stairs from the cinema when my eyes met Ndaweni’s. I don’t think he
was expecting to see me, well maybe he was seeing that he came to the cinema when he knew I
was there.

“That won’t be necessary… don’t turn too quickly but Ndaweni is ahead of us.. what do I say to
him?” I wh¡pered as I walked steadily.
Khetiwe slowly looked in Ndaweni’s direction and she whispered “calm and collected.. like you
don’t give a care that he followed you at the cinema. Steady smile, be the happiest you’ve been
but not like you’re happy to see him”
“hai…” I smiled as I approached Ndaweni.
“hey.. I was calling and I sent you a message. Sorry.. I was actually headed this direction and i
thought it wouldn’t be a bad idea to watch the movie with you.. I see you had company..”
“oh ya.. my friend Khetiwe..” I said as I allowed them to shake hands.
“oh Khetiwe this is Ndaweni…” I smiled.
I could tell he was expecting me to say more but I simply ended there and posed with a wide smile
hoping he would say something.
“ok.. what plans do you ladies have after this?”
I was blank at that point and any delay would mean he would come up with something that would
trap me in his company and he would feel important.
“well actually my friend.. yes.. she has never been to the famous granddaddies and she wanted us
to hang out there.. so yes.. that’s where we are going. I will see you around” I said before dragging
Khetiwe along.

As we headed to the car park my heart raced and I felt silly.
“please tell me I did well I feel so stupid”
‘you did absolutely great and I am proud of you.. I mean you could have been a little more polite
but never mind… it’s not important you did what you had to..”
“Polite how?” I asked worriedly.
“Well next time you should not make it too obvious that you are avoiding him… Make it seem like
you actually acknowledge his presence but you have no business discussing anything with him..
anyway whatever.. lets go”
“are we really going to granddaddies though?” I asked.

“no.. we are going to east park.. we will chill from there”
Khetiwe and I discussed many things as we sat chilling at east park mall, mostly we were
discussing new years resolutions and what the new year had to offer but also the masquerade
party. As we went on our third c*cktails I noticed a familiar face.
‘hey that girl looks like the girl from Ndaweni’s work place” I said
The lady was alone but she kept looking at the time and its like she was waiting on someone. I
saw her step out to make a call and she returned looking very frustrated. My phone started ringing
and it was Ndaweni calling.
“I am trying to understand why this guy has been so quiet for so long and then suddenly he wants
to talk to me. Just how does this work mwe Lesa? Its as if I just became so wonderful in his sight
all of a sudden”
“don’t pick up.. let it ring” Khetiwe said.
The moment the phone cut I got a message from Ndaweni (hai, I am by granddaddies where
exactly are you?)
I looked at the message over and over again until I finally decided to show Khetiwe.

“if my mind is as smart as I assume then his next stop is this place… I have a feeling that girl is
waiting for him” khetiwe said
“Khetiwe are you sure?”
‘just wait and see…” Khetiwe replied
Ndaweni called 4 more times and I ignored, I was now all about my business while my phone was
in the bag. Almost an hour later, Khetiwe asked me to look in the direction where the lady was
sitting and for sure Ndaweni had decided to come and see her. my jaw nearly dropped in shock.

“so you see.. its a gamble.. when he can’t be with you he is with her or somebody else. You are
important now because you are not giving him the light of day”
I saw Ndaweni get his phone out and start typing. I wondered who else he was trying to get in
touch with but my phone soon vibrated with a message. It was then that I found numerous
messages from him and the last one which read (I hope this friend of yours is not changing you. I
miss you and I wanted to spend time with you. I hope you understand how busy my work can be
and times like this I need you to be here with me. I love you)
I showed Khetiwe the message and she giggled.
“so suppose you were home.. imagine what this message would have done to you. You would
have invited him over and best believe he would have left her to be with you and boost his ego
before he appears to be busy again tomorrow.. You are better than that”

I looked at Khetiwe tearfully as I saw Ndaweni flirt with his companion, my heart ached and I
wanted to just go there to stage drama but for what? What would that change? Would it make me
feel any better?
“To think I fell in love with him” I said emotionally.

“Look my love, unfortunately that’s just life. It’s a battle between the ladies with dignity and those
with none. The lady he is with would never be his wife, best believe that. He would never marry
her… In the corporate world men like Ndaweni are many, they have women like her who give
themselves cheaply either for work favours or just money.. they know their place and even when
they hear about you it would never bother them. They would know you as the official woman but
still sleep with him. With such ladies being the wife would just be a bonus but trust me they don’t
aspire for such a role. On the other hand you will be crying for such a man to be your husband, a
man who gambles with womens feeling like that. You are not alone just in case you thought she
might be the only one, you will discover that there is another lady out there crying to be a part of
this man’s life.. Just like you another lady is crying for his attention. You don’t get such guys by
crying for them. He will go and marry a lady who is modest, a lady who doesn’t even have the time
to mourn him. You.. you are just another one of those he has conquered. One he would like to call
cheap.. but you are not cheap Thandiwe..”

I was so emotional, my heat bursting with anger and I was ready to just make this guy have a taste
of his own medicine.
“So in short, I have lost … I was good for the bed only?”
“no.. you might have made the wife.. in fact you might still do that.. its up to how you handle this
business”
“no Khetiwe.. how on earth do you expect me to feel? Going ahead getting married to a guy who
clearly treated me like an option once?” I said angrily.

“well the chances of you meeting a guy who doesn’t treat you that way is very slim.. well at least
not in this age we live in. The only difference is with most of the guys you never know the games
they play, while you are at the altar as the bride and making the perfect wife half of the church
already knows the kind of man you are marrying. It’s their secret”
“wow… you know too much”
“that’s why I don’t get phased by these numerous marriage proposals… I know men of nowadays..

you see when they say us ladies should be reserved and not frequent pubs and the like it’s the
fact that they don’t want us to know what kind of men this society has otherwise we won’t aspire to
be married.. so then the reserved ladies get married quite alright but they end up sharing their
good husbands with the ladies that are considered dirty in society… while they are playing wife
their hubby’s are busy actually wishing they could be with the same wild women in the club. So
ninshi what’s the point ayi? That’s why these things don’t phase me. p-ntu ine nshitobela
ubupuba”
I looked at Khetiwe and felt a ramble in my tummy.
“wow… I see why you don’t want to get married”
“I do… it will just take a lot.. not these pretenders.. imagine a guy like Ndaweni, he will definitely
look for a modest lady.. one who has a wonderful life and doesn’t chase him around, one who he
lets him have the freedom to chase her and all.. but he will still have his messed up life.. anyway
some change but hey.. Cheers to the few” Khetiwe said before sipping her c*cktail.

“What should I do?” I asked wonderingly.
“Nothing… You’ve seen the other side… now its up to you to decide. In fact some of these
weddings of our friends that you’ve been envying do you know the men they wed are a disgrace?

Anyway boyi let me not burst your fairtale wedding bubble.. keep worsh¡ping marriage” she said.
I was a little confused and pained.
“Let me use the bathroom” I said.
“Yes.. actually make sure you pass by their table and wave casually.. before proceeding
“Is it necessary?” I asked.
“Well do as I say and thank me later..”
“So now that I know all this I feel bad because I won’t look at men the same…” I said.
“it’s not all” Khetiwe corrected.
“Well then where are the good ones?” I asked.
“good question.. this is the part where we sit and wait for them to show up” she giggled.
“eh wait.. that’s Naomi’s husband” she said.

“where?” I asked.
Naomi was our friend who had just had a colourful wedding in December, the type that was always
modest and apparently represented the perfect definition of every man’s ideal woman.
“wait the one with that skimpy lady?” I asked
“yes..”
I shook my head in disbelief before rushing to the loo. I passed by Ndaweni’s table and waved
before rushing to the bathroom. When I left the loo he was standing by the door waiting on me.

“so since when did keg turn into granddaddies?” he asked.
Wow, the audacity this guy had to ask me such rubbish.

Jesus the nerve of this man, here I was staring at him and wondering how he even had the
audacity to ask me such a question. I smiled at him and shook my head like a zombie.

“we decided to come here..” I replied.
“we? You and who?”
“my friend the same one you met…” I replied reluctantly.
Ndaweni did not look very convinced; he decided to esc-rt me up to the table where Khetiwe and I
were sitting. To my surprise, Khetiwe wasn’t there anymore. I was wondering where she had gone
until I saw her coming with a friend. I had no idea who that friend of hers was but he was quite
handsome.

“I need to talk to you outside” he said.
I signalled to Khetiwe that I would be right back and I headed outside with Ndaweni. He was so
angry for some reason and I literally wanted to burst into laughter. This guy was really dramatic.
“Thandiwe what is the meaning of this? I have been calling you and you’ve been ignoring me..
what’s wrong with you? What kind of relationsh¡p…”
“Ndaweni, it’s really not polite for me to leave my friend and yet we came together. She is waiting
on me..” I said.
“is that to say that I am bothering you?” he asked
“even your companion is waiting for you” I said.

“oh so you want to go down that road? I have been trying to reach you today and she’s here.. she
just wanted to hang out, I didn’t think it was a problem..”
“Neither do.. I am just saying that we can schedule to meet on a day when we are both free…” I
said calmly.

I felt my phone vibrate in my hands and I checked the message it was from Khetiwe “don’t take too
long lest he reads your motives”
“I will be going back in,side now” I said.
When I was back in,side I didn’t even delay, I immediately picked my bag and we headed out. I
took time to wave at him as I left with Khetiwe and I switched my phone off the moment I got
home.

That week, I noticed Ndaweni was quiet again, he wasn’t calling or texting but he was ever online,
a part of me hurt badly. Once again I had to deal with these emotions. Did he ever love me or was
I just a pawn? I was so speechless; I had no idea how to confront this situation. Khetiwe assured
me that it would be well and the count down to the Masquerade was on. Like mum and dad had
promised, they funded the party and the evening of the party I hoped to just have so much fun. As
usual, you come with your face covered at a masquerade party and that was really fun for me
because I had to unmask myself to meet whoever was present. The guy’s of course could be
easily identified and I must say I was grateful to dad for picking the best of the best to come.
Khetiwe and I had managed to get me a perfect dress, my dress was black and figure hugging
with crystals all over. I loved the lace and the opening on the back. My hair was perfectly styled in
a way that it fell over my shoulders while my face had a neat black lace mask.

The food was plenty, the drinks were plenty and the guys that spoke to me were so many.
However one stood out for me, he spoke really well and he was one of the few men who followed
the rules and actually wore a mask. His voice stood out in a way that I couldn’t recognise but it
sounded familiar and nice. The guy spoke to me as I grabbed some c*cktails and we decided to
sit somewhere by a reserved corner as everyone had fun. A part of me still ached a little knowing
Ndaweni wouldn’t be there. I put the thoughts not too far away as I focussed on my new friend.
“so tell me.. who invited you to this party?” I asked.

“well there was an invitation that came to our office and I was invited”
“oh really? You work with my dad right?’ I asked.
“no.. he is my dads friend.. I work for my dad well.. I’m an accountant and dad runs an audit firm. I
must say everyone was wondering what kind of party this was that we had to come wearing
masks” he giggled.

As he giggled I tried to pick his voice but I was still blank.
“well it increases the fun” I said.
“yes and trust me I am enjoying this arrangement but promise me I will get to see your face by the
end of this night” he said.
“no problem..” I smiled.
“I never really do much of these fun things.. I am more on the reserved side but this seemed fun. I
like this idea.. you thought well” he said.
“thank you.. its hærd turning 30 I feel old..” I giggled.
“hey don’t worry yourself.. life is about having fun .. you are still young. I am 35” he said.

Ndaweni was calling and I excused myself, I picked up in the hallway and he asked what my
plans were, he wanted us to meet. I did not hesitate to inform him I had a masquerade party and
he could come if he wanted. Soon it was time to cut the cake and I really wanted to see this guy I
had been talking to. Khetiwe helped me cut the cake and it was time for everyone to remove their
mask. The awesome gentleman was waiting to feed me my cake as I had assured him. lo and
behold, the gentleman was Henry my next-door neighbour.
