A LONG WALK TO NOTHING

Episode 15 &16

It’s evening already, Eddy who has not been to school for lectures but just stuck up in his apartment is listening to some loud music in his apartment just to keep his mind off things his busy mind is telling him to do…..he hears a loud bang on the door, he doesn’t answer right away because he knows it’s his friends from school, Brian and Moses he’s not in his best moods but he can’t do anything about it because the banging continues…he’s forced to come and open up when the knocking could not stop….he opens and stands on the way with his fingers crossed

“Make a way dready” Brian says as he pushes and shoves him aside, the two guys make their way in,side ignoring Eddy’s mood, he remains standing there for a few seconds and then moves in,side shutting the door behind

“You look terrible” moses says

“I want to commit murder….I think I’m about to hurt somebody” he answers them and comes to sit where they are seated, his statement has made the guys feel tongue tied all of a sudden, Moses turns to Brian and they share a look

“Huh! Are these dreadlocks itching you or what?” He asks trying to joke about it

“That’s not even funny Moses and you know it”

“This is way more than we anticipated Buddy” Brian says and moses agrees with him

“Does this have any connection with what happened between you and Isabel and that’s exactly why we are here, we want jigs”

“Pertly but it’s not really that…..I don’t want to talk about it, I’m sorry you wasted your time but I don’t have jigs for you” he answers them

“Me here too, I don’t wish to talk about it….this topic is boring but if you ask me Moses, I would say I’m glad that bitch rejected you….she’s not a good one for you” Moses says

“And who says Isa rejected him….shut up” Brian asks him and it’s obvious he’s not Happy with Moses

“Even if he doesn’t say it….I would still go with what Isabel said”

“What do you even know Moses, you can’t say anything positive even for once”

“How about you Brian…. You’re equally…”

“Shut up you both” Eddy scre-med

“Easy dready! Calm down” moses says as he runs his fingers through Eddy’s dreadlocks

“If you don’t both shut up with your nonsense, I will have to ask you to leave….my head is too small to accommodate all these nonsense….I don’t know what that Isabel told you but this should be the last time you bother me with this nonsense”

“Easy men! Why don’t we watch a movie instead” Brian suggests and Moses is going along with this so together they drag Eddy to the living room……

Liam smartly and neatly dressed in black jeans with a blue t-shirt couldn’t leave his dark shades behind, he exits capital shoppers witha shopping bag in hand, he walks to where he packed his car and opens it, just as he’s about to enter his eyes land on something, the next car that is packed closed to his actually wasn’t empty, there were two people seated in it, a man and woman he presumed lovers s-cking faces

“What the f-ck…..they should try tint those windows gosh!” He says shaking his head unbelievably, he proceeds to enter, he sits and puts the bag on the the back seat, just as he’s about to start the car, he realises the two people s-cking faces have actually blocked him and there is no way he’s going to get out of the packing lot

“What the hell” he proceeds to hooting, he does it the first time but no the guys are not paying attention, he hoots again and it’s the same story, he opens his car door and comes out so furious, still wearing his shades, he knocks on the window but there is no response, he does again, the man rolls down the window

“Can you get this damn car out of my way, I need to be on my way out”

“Sorry man, let me do it right away” all this while he has not set his eyes on the woman Sutton besides the man then their eyes meet, it’s Cecilia

“Cecilia” he calls

“You two know each other?” The man whose name Liam hasn’t still known asks facing Cecilia and by this time she’s opening the door, she steps out and the man does too making Liam walk away a bit

“My name is Liam”

“Donald Stevenson” Liam goes pale on hearing this, he wonders if he heard wrong because the last time he checked, that was the name of Alexia’s husband, Cecilia on her part looks like a cat being caught stealing

“You know her” Donald’s question breaks the awkwardness that comes with silence

“Well she’s a model…..everyone knows her….. I’ve seen her a couple of times on magazines and daily news papers”

“I see” Donald says but all the while Cecilia is just silent

“I should get going…. Sorry for this inconvenience”

“Thank you…nice to meet you Mr Liam” they shake hands and Liam walks back to his car in confusion and the two cheats also walk away to enter the supermarket

Early the next day, Donald sits comfortably in his office with legs resting on the table with a phone on his ears, after a minute, his office door opens and Richærd steps in

“Good morning” he greets Donald with coldness in his Voice which Donald actually ignores

“Morning Richærd, you know I didn’t think you’d come this quick you always take your time”

“I had just gotten here and barely settled down when you called, I came right away”

“I see…please sit down”

“This has got to be quick”

“Get rid of that tone and face Richærd, we are way better than this”

“What do you want”

“Have you been talking to my son?”

“What a question! Who doesn’t talk to Edmond especially when he’s here to see his father”

“You don’t get my question… Have you been feeding him with some stupid information”

“Oh! Let me guess, he questioned you about your latest behavior right? What is this even about Donald”

“Eddy some how thinks Cecilia and I have something going on”

“He thinks or he knows? Wait! I thought we talked about this and I thought you would rethink after all that I said to you”

“You don’t get it…..I don’t love Alexia”

“And you got to realize this precisely after how long? Twenty long years of saying I do”

“I do? Did you say I do?…. well I did and I’m done got it I’m done” Donald hits the table as he says this, his veins in the neck are visible…..Richærd shakes his head unbelievably

“I don’t recognize you Donald”

“I’m sorry Richærd, we are supposed to be friends……you’re supposed to have my back”

“And I’m supposed to tell you when you’re going astray….look at you, that woman doesn’t deserve you”

“I’m getting divorce”

“Because of Cecilia is that a guess? Well you’re making the biggest mistake of your life Donald….. You’ll regret this….I swear you will…Cecilia doesn’t love you”

“What do you know about her”

“I know more than you could imagine, she doesn’t love you but what I’m sure about is the fact that you’re going to regret throwing your wonderful marriage to the winds I hope one day in the future, you’ll stand and look back to this day and remember my words that you’re throwing a wonderful thing away for a fling that won’t last”

“Get out of my office” Richærd without another word stands up and takes one look at his Friend and shakes his head

“Get out I said”

Liam is in his office reading the days news paper then came a light knock on the door…..It’s surprising because he came earlier than usual and doesn’t have any early appointment for the day

“Come in” the person opens tactfully and slowly, it’s Cecilia all smiles and standing in front of him

“Hi…can we talk and clear some things up” she says as she waves nervously, he throws the newspaper down, his mood changes right away

“I don’t know what lies you told security to get in here but I’ve terminated your training with us” he flatly says to her

“What’s that?….you can’t be serious Liam” She asks but he grabs his jacket, he starts to walk out past her but she holds onto his arms

“Liam” she softly calls

“Let go of me” he says through greeted teeth, he pulls away from her and walks out, she’s not done with him, she follows him calling his name

“Morning Boss” one of the guys working for Liam greets him

“Call me up when something comes up” he says as he continues to walk outside, the people in,side are whispering, Liam gets out and heads for his car Right away

“Jerk….that’s what you’re…. You’re a jerk” Cecilia scre-ms after him and he stops, he turns to face her and then walks back to where she’s standing… He looks her in the eyes and closes the space between them, he grabs her wa-ist with one hand pulling her to himself, he holds her chin with the other hand lifting it high a bit, he claims her l-ips k-ssing her, her eyes are wide open in shock and she shivers, he then pulls away from her and starts to walk away, she spits on the ground rubbing her l-ips

“Screw you bastard…how dare you” she says and he stops, he walks back to her

“Screw you? That’s a very interesting word little Miss Cecilia…. You think I don’t know your little plan, sleeping with top producers and all those big influential people to get to appear on their billboards, magazines and interviews, currently sleeping with your best friend’s husband behind her back…..now your next target is me is that a guess? Well sorry Miss but I don’t do your type” he blurts out, she opens her mouth to say something but it doesn’t come out

“Get out of here…..I don’t ever want to see you again” he warns and walks to his car this time rubbing his l-ips, he starts the car and drives away leaving her all fuming and cursing….

“What’s going on?” Alexia who just drove in asks coming towards Cecilia ”

“He will pay for this” Cecilia says as a confused Alexia looks at Liam’s car driving away….

Episode 16

“Can you just talk to me already Cecilia huh! What in God’s name is going on with you and Liam”

“Will you just sit down and shut up Alexia” they are in Cecilia’s house, Cecilia had driven off after Liam left and Alexia had no choice but to follow her, now they are in her house and Alexia is trying to find out what happened because she has never seen her friend this way and Liam too was acting strange, now they are seated quiet as she looks at Cecilia who is tapping her feet to the ground

“Look….I’m not gonna ask you this again but would you just freaking tell me what’s going on?”

“Liam k-ssed me” there is a silence

“Did you hear me? I said Liam…”

“I heard you but he…”

“He nothing, he’s just one of these rich youngsters who think they can have anyone especially someone who has already made a name for herself in the showbiz world”

“Wait wait….I need to understand one thing I mean how did it even start, are you sure you didn’t lead him on”

“What kind of question is that Alexia? Jeeez what do you take me for, that guy is not even my type”

“Seriously if you ask me Cecilia, I would say you’re over reacting for nothing… That guy doesn’t even cut me like that type”

“Which type”

“That type…I mean he’s too nice”

“Of course how would you even notice, he wouldn’t even try it with an elephant” Alexia is hurt by Cecilia’s slip of tongue

“I’m sorry” Cecilia tries to apologize but it’s already too late as Alexia painfully smiles

“You don’t have to apologize it’s good to say what you feel….I’m used to these things…i mean even my own husband says I’m boring, he just wants something new even if he doesn’t say it so your sincere words have nothing on me”

“You’re overreacting”

“Believe me I’m not Cecilia” she stands up

“I gotta go”

“Don’t be mad at me”

“I’m not” she k-sses her cheeks and grabs her bag

“See you…but I would advice you talk to Liam and clear the air before it’s too late, this is just a small misunderstanding that I’m sure has got and explanation” she walks out and just as she closes the door behind, she gets out her phone and dials Liam

“Ale” he answers right away

“Where are you” she asks

“Are you at the gym? Still waiting for me?”

“No I’m just leaving Cecilia’s, I just talked to her what’s with the k-ss allegation….never knew you liked her, why didn’t you tell me I mean I could have been of help”

“I’ll talk to you later and today is cancelled… I’m not coming there but you can come around, you can do it alone” Alexia poses to think, she’s not even listening to him, her mind is on Cecilia’s word that Liam would never look at an elephant like her, she looks at herself and feels sorry for herself

“Ale are you there” Liam brings her to her mind

“Did you even hear what I said”

“Never mind see you” she ends the call

“That’s wired” Liam says from the other end….Alexia drives off…..

Five minutes after Alexia driving off, Cecilia who is pondering on what Liam’s action means hears a knock, she’s clearly not in the moods of entertaining someone but the knock continues

“Aunty” Isabel calls from outside and she sits up

“Chebela….open the damn door”

“How do I when you locked yourself up”

“Did I” she sits up, she didn’t even realize she locked herself up, she walks to the door and opens, she gives Isabel a hug but the girl is clearly not into it

“What’s wrong, are you sick”

“No….are you sleeping with Uncle Donald”

“What? How dare you walk into my house and ask me this disrespectful question”

“Well I could only think of this as the reason…one moment Eddy was drooling over me and the next minute he doesn’t want anything to do with me, he even threw me out of his apartment”

“Hmmmm…. I see, please sit” she does

“I’ve told you countless times, you can not have anything to do with that boy, it’s not right”

“Why aunt I’ve always known it…that’s why I even tried hooking you up with Liam”

“Well….I haven’t said that’s not gonna be possible” Isabel becomes frustrated

“Can you just put your interest aside and think about me even for once, it has always been about you….I like Eddy, I really do and I need to have him please do this one thing for me…let me have him”

“Calm down Chebela…. Look, even if I stepped aside today and let you go ahead with this, it’s not going to be possible because Edmond already found us out”

“So it’s all true….”

“I’m so sorry but it just happened” Isabel stands up with tears in her eyes

“Where are you going”

“My coming here was a big mistake” she walks out in tears…..

Late in the evening Alexia who is all by herself in the living room has just put her daughter to bed, something in her tells her to call Donald even when she knows he’s not going to pick it up, but she does, she dials and the call went through, surprisingly Donald picks it up immediately

“Hello” Donald says

“Baby are you talking to me?” Cecilia dashes from the kitchen when she heard him talk

“Sssshhhhhh” Donald tries to shus Cecilia but she’s not getting the point

“Babe….I’m talking to you”

“Donald… Who is that” Alexia who hears it all asks

“Where are you? I’m talking to you”

“I’m at work…why did you call…why am I even asking this..why the hell did I even pick up yuck?” He ends the call and Alexia who hears her stomach tightens and palms sweating hears the end of call tone and she sits down

“It’s true….he’s cheating on me but with who?… Who the hell is she”

“I gotta go” Donald stands up picking his coat

“What’s this Donald…. Now you care about how she feels about this?”

“Maybe I just have to put an end to this…it’s high time” she tries to k-ss him but he doesn’t let her

“I’ll call you up” he walks out and Cecilia throws her tiny self down in frustration…. Donald drives his car at breakneck speed feeling his anger chocking him, he can’t wait to get home and put Alexia in her proper position…. It didn’t take him long though

“I heard the bitch in the background when you said you were at work” Alexia speaks getting up and coming to meet her husband halfway coming from outside

“What are you even saying” he tries to act dumb but this angers her

“Donald, you underestimate my intelligence what do you take me for A fool? No jerk, I ain’t one”

“Have you forgotten there are women working in my office too?”

“No that’s not the point”

“Then what’s the f-cking point?”

“This is not the first time Donald, but now that I put this question to you, I hear I see the the fool in you shuttering, I know straight away you’re lying…. It all started with with you coming home smelling all cheap like her perfume, with stains of her l¡pstick Darling, I pretended and let you have your way thinking you were fooling me but tell me, why should I let you continue doing that huh answer me” he walks closer and holds her chin up looking into her eyes

“I’m not afraid of your cheap blackmail Alexia”

“I know… That’s why I’m not going to blame myself for how you turned out to be, I’m not your mother, I’m not going to blame myself for you choosing to want to leave so feel free” he looks at her and they stare at themselves

“Excuse me” he pushes past her wanting to walk away but she has the courage to hold his arm back, he turns

“Aren’t you done?” He asks

“I have been nothing but a good wife to you and a good mother to our children but let me tell you something Donald…. You can never hurt a good woman and go Scott free….do you know why? It’s because Everything fights for her….I mean everything…. And I my Darling husband, I’m a good woman” she leaves his arm and pushes past him walking upstairs as he stares in confusion, he has never seen this side of her..
